  • In comparing with the role, scope, and description method of edition statement between monograph and old traditional books, There are some problems solving as follows : 1) Kind of issue offering information on variant imprint must be distinguished from edition merely identifying the newest thing among same materials in the edition area of old traditional books. 2) because of a rule that edition statement follow title statement according to ISBD, could not make a most of the characteristics of old traditional books. As a result of a n.0, pplication MARC format for solving above the problems, the followings have been identified. 1) Subfield in the 245tag can be made a distinction between kind of issue and edition with when describing edition statement of old traditional books. 2) As defining newly the Fixed-Length Data Elements of Marc format, not only basic index terms, such as author, title, etc., but also edition statement on variant kind of issue will be able to provide with restrict index terms.

  • Originally the concept of the traditional resource sharing has been discussed in the context of bibliographic materials, and has been labor-intensive and high-cost activities. The technology has had a great impact on such pattern of the resource sharing, and has expanded the limited scope of the traditional concept into the sharing of library information in the levels of local, regional and national systems, and expertise, materials, facilities, equipments and personnels of the library system. While the traditional circulation service as a basic method to share library materials by users can provide the resource to a single person at a time, the electronic resource can be shared, by multi-users at a time anytime anywhere. The maximization of the electronic resource sharing requires that publishing process should be fundamentally changed and articles, books, chapters, speech manuscripts, music scores, maps, sound, and other formats of materials should be prepared in machine readable format. This study examined the positive effects of the technology on the resource sharing, but not investigate the concrete and complex problems as to the cost, guidelines, detailed procedures, design details, and intellectual properties and protection involved in the resource sharing. Some findings extracted from the study can be summarized as follows; (1) ILL will lose its meaning as a method to share the materials if they are all in the electronic format and the phrase 'networked information resource' becomes omnipresent. (2) The technology keeps on changing the concept of resource sharing. Today, the scope of resource sharing not only encompasses the sharing of the primary and secondary materials but also the sharing of the processings(eg. cataloging), expertise, user education, special facilities, and the integrated automated library systems. (3) The sharing of the networked resource will be a method to provide better services for library users in the low cost. (4) The a n.0, pplication of the technology to the resource sharing should be focus on the method which allows an end-users to do the direct access to the needed materials, and to be delivered the primary document as soon as possible.

  • This paper proposes a MIDI- and audio-based music genre classification method for Korean traditional music. There are many traditional instruments in Korea, and most of the traditional songs played using the instruments have similar patterns and rhythms. Although music information processing such as music genre classification and audio melody extraction have been studied, most studies have focused on pop, jazz, rock, and other universal genres. There are few studies on Korean traditional music because of the lack of datasets. This paper analyzes raw audio and MIDI phrases in Korean traditional music, performed using Korean traditional musical instruments. The classified samples and MIDI, based on our classification system, will be used to construct a database or to implement our Kontakt-based instrument library. Thus, we can construct a management system for a Korean traditional music library using this classification system. Appropriate feature sets for raw audio and MIDI phrases are proposed and the classification results-based on machine learning algorithms such as support vector machine, multi-layer perception, decision tree, and random forest-are outlined in this paper.

  • This study used social discourse analysis and analyzed social discourse on library reflected in media, social media, interview and diary of persons concerned, particularly focusing on controversy over whether 'The Forest of Wisdom' should be called a 'library'. The study analyzed a three-dimensional framework, including media report that eventually developed a social 'discourse event', social media surrounding this issue, and interview with persons in the library community and publishing industry regarding discourse. This study draws a conclusion that 'The Forest of Wisdom' rather led social discourse over the role of library especially when traditional library is faced with new demands for discourse and changes. It is meaningful in that this issue provided an opportunity for library and the publishing industry to think over and develop ways for autonomous discourse that seeks their true value.

It is also intended to serve librarians to have easy access to ancient literatures which have been filed among various traditional bibliographies for those who are to research oriental materials as an analysis about Miscelleneous Part(子部). The outline of this study are as follows : (1) Examining closely origins, developing process and characteristics of classification of Miscelleneous Part of Four Category Classification Scheme. (2) Explaining the content of division and section of Miscelleneous Part (子部). (3) Coordinating relations of division and section of Miscelleneous Part as well as those of other parts of the classification scheme. • There is a growing interest in user-centered classification or reader-interest classification, as questions have arisen from the meanings and the effects of traditional library classification. American public libraries have used fiction genre classification called bookstore model as an alternative to the traditional classification schemes. As a result, accessibility to the collection was promoted and library service for their users was improved. • The purpose of the study is to understand the research trends in the hypertext information retrieval. Around 30 related papers were investigated, from which three distinctive streams of research trends are grasped: 1) a trend of incorporating the traditional retrieval models, especially the query-based searching model into the hypermedia system. 2) a trend of a n.0, pplying the hypermedia system as an interface to the OPAC system, 3) a trend of incorporating the artificial intelligence techniques into the hypermedia techniques. The research on the hypermedia is going on, and the research directions will be increasingly intend to incorporate the traditional retrieval models and artificial intelligence techniques into the hypermedia system.
