Cordycepin, a nucleoside derivative, was extracted from $Cordyceps$$sinensis$, and then proved to be a bioactive compound present in traditional Chinese medicine Cordyceps. Early investigations revealed cordycepin possessed anti-microbial activity mainly by inhibiting nucleic acid synthesis. Although cordycepin is not used as antibacterial agents in clinic, its other pharmacological effects and possible mechanisms have gradually been deeply studied. This review serves to summarize the research progress of cordycepin.
Objective : To investigate specific prescriptions, herbal medicines and treatment strategy, this study systematically reviewed case studies on traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) treatment for childhood cancer. Method : Literature searches were performed on database of China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI). Studies published before December 2020 were categorized and analyzed according to the treatment strategy and we also investigated Chinese herbs used in the prescriptions. Results : Twenty-five studies including 17 case series and 8 single case reports were included in our review. Of the total 439 patients, 379 (85.7%) had leukemia and other myeloplastic disease. Conventional western medicine (CWM) treatment was also used with TCM based on the syndrome identification. Most studies reported favorable effect of combination treatment with CWM and TCM. Among 266 herbs in the studies, reinforcing herbs were more frequently used than anti-cancer herbs. Conclusion : Traditional herbal treatment for childhood cancer should be performed considering the syndrome identification as well as stage of CWM. Reinforcing herbs should be more focused because of the fragility and growth of the childhood.
Objectives : This study is set out to discover more about the treatment of anxiety disorder in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Methods : We searched the database-China Academic Journals(CAJ). For papers published since 2007-2011, which are classified in categories. Results : We have finally selected 23 articles, and the results were as follows: 1. Stages of Anxiety disorder are discussed in various aspects. 2. Diagnostic criteria and evaluation criteria were the same, especially, in the CCMD and HAMA was used most frequently. Adverse effects were reported using TESS. 3. There are various ways, such as Herbal medicine, acupuncture, electroacupuncture stimulation, acupoints injection, and abdominal massage therapy to treat Anxiety disorders in TCM. 4. Zizyphus jujuba, Poligala tenuifolia, Poria cocos are mainly used in herbal medicine. Sinmun(HT7), Sameumgyo(SP6), Naegwan(PC6) are mainly used in acupuncture points. 5. The treatment group, cured by herbal medicine or acupuncture, was similar in its therapeutic efficiency to that of the control group, which was cured by western medicine. In some cases, the treatment group was better off than the control group. Herbal medicines have been reported that they have less side effects and drug addiction than the western medicines. We predict that herbal medicine in the treatment for anxiety disorders will have an advantage. Conclusions : There are a wide range of approaches in the treatments for Anxiety disorders in TCM. In some aspects, herbal medicine is more effective than that of the western medicine. According to this study, we predict that herbal medicine in the treatment for anxiety disorders, has some advantage. Therefore, there is a need for more clinical research for this disorder in Korean traditional medicine.
Background: Many stroke patients receive traditional medical care in Korea and China. Stroke patients comprise the largest proportion of inpatients in traditional Korean medicine and traditional Chinese medicine hospitals. The purpose of this study is to identify the types and effects of Chinese medicine widely used in China and Korea, and to apply them to future studies of stroke. Methods: Nine Korean and Chinese databases will be surveyed for clinical studies of herbal medicines for stroke, published between the inception of the database and August 2017. Clinical studies of decoctions or modified decoctions will be included without restriction on study type. The frequencies and patterns of formulas or single herb usage and the any type of herbal medicine utilization will be analyzed. Dissemination: The results of the systematic review will be published in a peer-reviewed journal and disseminated electronically and in print. Updates of the review will be conducted to inform and guide healthcare practices.
Colorectal cancer has become a major disease threatening human health. To establish animal models that exhibit the characteristics of human colorectal cancer will not only help to study the mechanisms underlying the genesis and development effectively, but also provide ideal carriers for the screening of medicines and examining their therapeutic effects. In this study, we established a stable, colon cancer nude mouse model highly expressing green fluorescent protein (GFP) for spontaneous metastasis after surgical orthotopic implantation (SOI). GFP-labeled colon cancer models for metastasis after SOI were successfully established in all of 15 nude mice and there were no surgery-related complications or deaths. In week 3, primary tumors expressing GFP were observed in all model animals under fluoroscopy and two metastatic tumors were monitored by fluorescent imaging at the same time. The tumor volumes progressively increased with time. Seven out of 15 tumor transplanted mice died and the major causes of death were intestinal obstruction and cachexia resulting from malignant tumor growth. Eight model animals survived at the end of the experiment, 6 of which had metastases (6 cases to mesenteric lymph nodes, 4 hepatic, 2 pancreatic and 1 mediastinal lymph node). Our results indicate that our GFP-labeled colon cancer orthotopic transplantation model is useful with a high success rate; the transplanted tumors exhibit similar biological properties to human colorectal cancer, and can be used for real-time, in vivo, non-invasive and dynamic observation and analysis of the growth and metastasis of tumor cells.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the side effects (ADR) of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) injections by age, injection type, symptoms, and causes, and to find preventive solutions for ADR. For the ADR of TCM injection data collected during the search period from January 1, 2010 to December 31, 2020, the correlation between each section was analyzed by subdividing it into age, injection type, symptoms and causes. CNKI, PubMed, and EMBASE were used to collect the clinical data. 'Chinese herbal injection', 'Traditional Chinese Medicine injection', 'Chinese herbal injection side effect', 'Chinese herbal injection adverse drug reaction' were used for the keyword from the database. All data were collected mainly for TCM injection and the causes of ADR due to TCM injection. However, data not related to the relevant study or TCM injection were excluded from this study. Among a total of 941 studies collected during the search period from January 1, 2010 to December 31, 2020, a total of 10 studies were selected for final analysis. In 1462 clinical data sets, ADR by gender was higher in males than females. By age, 41 to 60 years were the most common. The incidence of ADR by injection type was highest in the blood regulating injection type. Data analysis showed Xueshuantong injection had the highest ADR. Among the symptoms of ADR, skin diseases were the most common. The most common cause of ADR was the unreasonable use of drugs. In China, for ADR management, the use of TCM injections is recommended according to the basic principles for the clinical use of TCM injections established by the Chinese government. In this study, we analyzed the current status and causes of ADR in TCM injections, and found a preventive solution. It is expected that it can be used as basic data to increase the usability of pharmacopuncture and herbal medicines in Korea in the future.
Despite its importance as concrete proof of the distinctive charcteristics of 治腫術 and acupuncuture of Korea, 치종지남 was not only seldom mentioned, it was impossible to obtain. Fortunately, through KIOM's translation projects, its entity was revealed. A 경도대 collection version including traces of 丹波元簡's 識語, and a Chinese hand-copied version, whose existence was unknown before, could also be adapted to research. Through this research, the details of the impartation and preservation process of 治腫指南 and the fact that both the Univ. Waseda collection version and the Chinese hand-copied version both originate from the Chosun original could be understood.
Traditional Korean medicines may be managed more scientifically, through the development of logical criterion to verify their cultivation region. It contributes to advance the industry of traditional herbal medicines. Volatile compounds were obtained from 14 samples of domestic Taeksa and 30 samples of Chinese Taeksa by steam distillation. The metabolites were identified by NIST mass spectral library in the obtained gas chromatography/mass spectrometer (GC/MS) data of 35 training samples. The multivariate statistical analysis, such as Principal Component Analysis (PCA), Partial Least Squares Discriminant Analysis (PLS-DA), and Orthogonal Partial Least Squares Discriminant Analysis (OPLS-DA), were performed based on the qualitative and quantitative data. Finally trans-(2,3-diphenylcyclopropyl)methyl phenyl sulfoxide (47.265 min), 1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-1-phenyl-naphthalene (47.781 min), spiro[4-oxatricyclo[5.3.0.0.(2,6)]decan-3-one-5,2'-cyclohexane] (54.62 min), 6-[7-nitrobenzofurazan-4-yl]amino-morphinan-4,5-epoxy (54.86 min), p-hydroxynorephedrine (55.14 min) were determined as marker metabolites to verify candidates for the origin of Taeksa. The statistical model was well established to determine the origin of Taeksa. The cultivation areas of test samples, each 3 domestic and 6 Chinese Taeksa were predicted by the established OPLS-DA model and it was confirmed that all 9 samples were precisely classified.
Cordyceps, one of the most valued traditional Chinese medicines, consists of the dried fungus Cordyceps sinensis growing on the larva of caterpillar. It is also known as 'winter-worm and summer-grass' because of its appearance during different seasons. The parasitic complex of the fungus and the caterpillar is found in soil of a prairie at an elevation of 3,500 to 5,000 meters in northwestern part of China. According to Chinese medicinal theory, Cordyceps is used to replenish the kidney and soothe the lung, and indeed many clinical applications have been reported. The natural Cordyceps is rare and expensive on the local market, and therefore, several mycelial strains have been isolated from natural Cordyceps and manufactured in large quantities by fermentation technology, and they are commonly sold as health food products in Orient. The adulterants of Cordyceps are commonly found on the market, and therefore the authentication of these products has to be defined. Having the urgent need from current market, different chemical markers such as nucleoside, ergosterol, mannitol and polysaccharide are being used for quality control of Cordyceps. Unfortunately, these markers are far from optimization, and therefore extensive works are needed to define the pharmacological efficiency of these markers.
Objectives: This study aimed to systematically review the effectiveness and safety of traditional herbal medicine treatments for metabolic syndrome (MS) in patients receiving antipsychotic drugs (APs). Methods: We searched 11 domestic and foreign databases for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) using traditional herbal medicines for MS in patients receiving APs. Results: Twenty RCTs conducted in China were included in the analysis. The most common disease among the participants was schizophrenia. Most studies used the 2004 Chinese Diabetes Society (CDS) standards as the diagnostic criteria for MS. The most used prescription was Yukultang (Liuyu-tang). The most used herbal material was Pinelliae Rhizoma, followed by Poria, Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, and Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma. Traditional herbal medicines were mostly reported to improve the symptoms of MS. Conclusions: Traditional herbal medicines may be effective in improving the symptoms of MS in patients receiving APs. However, the quality of the included studies was low, and the studies were heterogeneous. Methodologically rigorous clinical studies on traditional herbal medicine treatments for MS in patients receiving APs are needed.
