Objectives: This study was investigated in order to analyse the characteristics of recent Chinese medicine treatment of gastric cancer, and provide literature basis for the development of effective therapy of gastric cancer by reviewing Chinese journals. Methods: The literature on Chinese medicine treatment of gastric cancer were collected, analyzed and summarized from the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) from 2000 to 2013. Results: Physicians have not shown consistent opinion with the pattern identification of gastric cancer. Recently, traditional Chinese Medicine patent prescriptions have been much used in the treatment of gastric cancer, which is classified into the reinforcement of healthy qi and elimination of the pathogenic factors. Chinese medicine combined with western medicine can improve the immune system and quality of life, while reducing toxic side effects. Conclusions: Further studies on traditional Chinese Medicine are needed to increase the survival rate of gastric cancer and effectiveness of combination therapy with western medicine.
Objectives : This study was to assess the Traditional chinese medicine forecast subjects that had been expected to be accomplished over 20 year (1990-2010). The result will help Korea medical society to compare the status of Korean Medicine with that of Traditional Chinese Medicine and to plan for polices and studies on Korean Traditional Medicine. Methods : Assessed targets were the subjects selected by the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, which are classified into 6 fields. These were assigned by the quantity of related theses. Reference source is CAJ(China academic Journal) of CNKI (China National Knowledge infrastructure). Results : 1) Forecast subject ratio by field was basic theory 31% / clinical research 17% / Chinese herbal drug 17% / acupuncture and moxa 17% / Tui-na(推拿) and Qi-gong(氣功) 9% / medical information, literature history 6%. 2) Accomplishment percentage (full accomplishment) by field was medical information, literature, history 60% / basic theory 50% / acupuncture and moxa 46% Tui-na(推拿) and Qi-gong(氣功) 38% / chinese herbal drug 25% / clinical research 23%. Conclusions : 78% of all forecast subjects were accomplished or partially accomplished. According to 'accomplishment percentage by field', while those in the medical information, literature, history field were most realized of all, those in the clinical research field were least realized.
With the high morbidity and mortality caused by cancer, finding new and more effective anti-cancer drugs is very urgent. In current research, biotransformation plays a vital role in the research and development of cancer drugs and has obtained some achievements. In this review, we have summarized four applications as follows: to exploit novel anti-cancer drugs, to improve existing anti-cancer drugs, to broaden limited anti-cancer drug resources and to investigate correlative mechanisms. Three different groups of important anti-cancer compounds were assessed to clarify the current practical applications of biotransformation in the development of anti-cancer drugs.
The Objective of this study was to investigate present conditions of research institutes on traditional medicine in China, Chinese taipei, Japan and U.S.A. The subject institutes were China academy of traditional chinese medicine, National research institute of chinese medicine, Oriental medicine research center of the Kitasato institute, Institute of natural medicine in Toyama medical and pharmaceutical university, National center for complementary and alternative medicine. Various publications printed by each institute were collected and each web site wis searched. For further analysis, Interviews with managers and researchers of each institute were carried out.
For discovering a new trend of cancer therapy in east and west medicine, we have investigated the journal of integrated traditional chinese and western medicine(ITCWM) from Jan. 2000 to Jun. 2006. The main treatment of cancer therapy in ITCWM was western treatments(chemotherapy, radiotherapy, surgery etc.). Traditional chinese medicine(TCM) was adjuvant treatments. But, it is said that TCM has some important roles in treating cancer at this journal.
The pathological impact of haze upon the phyllosphere microbiota awaits investigation. A moderate degree of haze environment and a clean control were selected in Chengdu, China. Artemisia argyi, a ubiquitously distributed and extensively applied Chinese herb, was also chosen for experiment. Total genome DNA was extracted from leaf samples, and for metagenome sequencing, an Illumina HiSeq 2500 platform was applied. The results showed that the gene numbers of phyllosphere microbiota derived from haze leaves were lower than those of the clean control. The phyllosphere microbiota derived from both haze and clean groups shared the same top ten phyla; the abundances of Proteobacteria, Actinomycetes and Anorthococcuso of the haze group were substantially increased, while Ascomycetes and Basidiomycetes decreased. At the genus level, the abundances of Nocardia, Paracoccus, Marmoricola and Knoelia from haze leaves were markedly increased, while the yeasts were statistically decreased. KEGG retrieval demonstrated that the functional genes were most annotated to metabolism. An interesting find of this work is that the phyllosphere microbiota responsible for the synthesis of primary and secondary metabolites in A. argyi were significantly increased under a haze environment. Relatively enriched genes annotated by eggNOG belong to replication, recombination and repair, and genes classified into the glycoside hydrolase and glycosyltransferase enzymes were significantly increased. In summary, we found that both structure and function of phyllosphere microbiota are globally impacted by haze, while primary and secondary metabolites responsible for haze tolerance were considerably increased. These results suggest an adaptive strategy of plants for tolerating and confronting haze damage.
Background: Ginsenosides are known as the principal pharmacological active constituents in Panax medicinal plants such as Asian ginseng, American ginseng, and Notoginseng. Some ginsenosides, especially the 20(R) isomers, are found in trace amounts in natural sources and are difficult to chemically synthesize. The present study provides an approach to produce such trace ginsenosides applying biotransformation through Escherichia coli modified with relevant genes. Methods: Seven uridine diphosphate glycosyltransferase (UGT) genes originating from Panax notoginseng, Medicago sativa, and Bacillus subtilis were synthesized or cloned and constructed into pETM6, an ePathBrick vector, which were then introduced into E. coli BL21star (DE3) separately. 20(R)-Protopanaxadiol (PPD), 20(R)-protopanaxatriol (PPT), and 20(R)-type ginsenosides were used as substrates for biotransformation with recombinant E. coli modified with those UGT genes. Results: E. coli engineered with $GT95^{syn}$ selectively transfers a glucose moiety to the C20 hydroxyl of 20(R)-PPD and 20(R)-PPT to produce 20(R)-CK and 20(R)-F1, respectively. GTK1- and GTC1-modified E. coli glycosylated the C3-OH of 20(R)-PPD to form 20(R)-Rh2. Moreover, E. coli containing $p2GT95^{syn}K1$, a recreated two-step glycosylation pathway via the ePathBrich, implemented the successive glycosylation at C20-OH and C3-OH of 20(R)-PPD and yielded 20(R)-F2 in the biotransformation broth. Conclusion: This study demonstrates that rare 20(R)-ginsenosides can be produced through E. coli engineered with UTG genes.

Background: Zhongyi paste is a traditional Chinese medicine herbal paste that is externally applied to reduce inflammation and relieve pain. Methods: An acute foot swelling inflammation model in C57BL/6J mice was established by carrageenan-induced pathogenesis. Zhongyi paste raised the pain threshold and also reduced the degree of swelling in mice with carrageenan-induced foot swelling. Results: Analysis indicated that serum tumor necrosis factor-alpha, interleukin-1 beta, and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) cytokine levels and PGE2 levels in the paw tissue of the mice were decreased by Zhongyi paste treatment. The quantitative polymerase chain reaction and western blot results showed that Zhongyi paste downregulated the mRNA and protein expression of extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2 (ERK1/2), and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), and also downregulated the mRNA expression of PGE2. At the same time, the Zhongyi paste exerted a stronger effect as an external drug than that of indomethacin, which is an oral drug, and voltaren, which is an externally applied drug. Conclusions: Our results indicated that Zhongyi paste is a very effective drug to reduce inflammatory swelling of the foot, and its mechanism of action is related to regulation of the ERK1/2-COX-2-PGE2 pathway.
According to the original texts in "Hwangjenaegyeong(黃帝內經)", it's considered that the Chinese character Tong(洞) in the word of Tongseol(洞泄) should be understood as fast[疾] or rapid[速],and the main symptom of Tongseol should be diarrhea of indigested food soon after a meal. Through comparing Tongseol with Dongpung(迵風) in Historical Records, we can draw the conclusions as following. Firstly, the ancient physicians attached great importance to the role of wind in the pathogenesis of diarrhea. Secondly, perhaps the ancient physicians had these ideas of "wind is rapid" and "strong wind can bring shaken" as well as "wind is related to the liver closely" already in the early Western Han Dynasty. Thirdly, the rich materials about the relationship between wind and diarrhea in "Hwangjenaegyeong(黃帝內經)" should be considered as the successor to the excellent thinking of their predecessors.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to investigate the trend of traditional Chinese medicine for sudden sensorineural hearing Loss(SSHL) in Chinese journals. Methods : Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI) and Wanfang med online were used to search randomized controlled trials(RCTs) on SSHL which were published from January, 2017 to December, 2021. Results : Among Chinese studies, Tonifying and Replenishing medicinal(補益藥) and Exterior-releasing medicinal(解表藥) were the most frequently used medicine in treating SSHL. Acori Graminei Rhizoma(石菖蒲) was the most frequently used herb excluding Glycyrrhizae Radix(甘草). All studies reported that using Traditional Chinese Medicine alone or combining western medicne(WM) is more effective for treating SSHL than using WM alone, although one study reported the result is not statistically significant. Conclusions : In analysis of selected studies, co-treatment of traditional chinese medicine and WM can be more effective way for treating SSHL than using WM alone. Side effects of treating SSHL can also be reduced by co-treatment of traditional chinese medicine and WM.
