  • This study predicts the average scores of top 150 PGA golf players on 132 PGA Tour tournaments (2013-2015) using data mining techniques and statistical analysis. This study also aims to predict the Top 10 and Top 25 best players in 4 different playoffs. Linear and nonlinear regression methods were used to predict average scores. Stepwise regression, all best subset, LASSO, ridge regression and principal component regression were used for the linear regression method. Tree, bagging, gradient boosting, neural network, random forests and KNN were used for nonlinear regression method. We found that the average score increases as fairway firmness or green height or average maximum wind speed increases. We also found that the average score decreases as the number of one-putts or scrambling variable or longest driving distance increases. All 11 different models have low prediction error when predicting the average scores of PGA Tournaments in 2015 which is not included in the training set. However, the performances of Bagging and Random Forest models are the best among all models and these two models have the highest prediction accuracy when predicting the Top 10 and Top 25 best players in 4 different playoffs.

  • An optimization system, APROGA II using genetic algorithm, was developed to solve multi-modal and multiobjective problems. To begin with, Multi-Niche Crowding(MNC) algorithm was used for multi-modal optimization problem. Secondly, a new algorithm was suggested for multiobjective optimization problem. Pareto dominance tournaments and Sharing on the non-dominated frontier was applied to it to obtain multiple objectives. APROGA II uses these two algorithms and the system has three search engines(previous APROGA search engine, multi-modal search engine and multiobjective search engine). Besides, this system can handle binary and discrete variables. And the validity of APROGA II was proved by solving several test functions and case study problems successfully.

  • The paper presents problems of optimization of the synthesis of embedded systems, in particular Pareto optimization. The model of such a system for its design for high-level of abstract is based on the classic approach known from the theory of task scheduling, but it is significantly extended, among others, by the characteristics of tasks and resources as well as additional criteria of optimal system in scope structure and operation. The metaheuristic algorithm operating according to this model introduces a new approach to system synthesis, in which parallelism of task scheduling and resources partition is applied. An algorithm based on a genetic approach with simulated annealing and Boltzmann tournaments, avoids local minima and generates optimized solutions. Such a synthesis is based on the implementation of task scheduling, resources identification and partition, allocation of tasks and resources and ultimately on the optimization of the designed system in accordance with the optimization criteria regarding cost of implementation, execution speed of processes and energy consumption by the system during operation. This paper presents examples and results for multi-criteria optimization, based on calculations for specifying non-dominated solutions and indicating a subset of Pareto solutions in the space of all solutions.

  • We consider a tournament T = (V,A). For each subset X of V is associated the subtournament T(X) = (X,$A{\cap}(X{\times}X)$) of T induced by X. We say that a tournament T' embeds into a tournament T when T' is isomorphic to a subtournament of T. Otherwise, we say that T omits T'. A subset X of V is a clan of T provided that for a, $b{\in}X$ and $x{\in}V{\backslash}X$, $(a,x){\in}A$ if and only if $(b,x){\in}A$. For example, ${\emptyset}$, $\{x\}(x{\in}V)$ and V are clans of T, called trivial clans. A tournament is indecomposable if all its clans are trivial. In 2003, B. J. Latka characterized the class ${\tau}$ of indecomposable tournaments omitting a certain tournament $W_5$ on 5 vertices. In the case of an indecomposable tournament T, we will study the set $W_5$(T) of vertices $x{\in}V$ for which there exists a subset X of V such that $x{\in}X$ and T(X) is isomorphic to $W_5$. We prove the following: for any indecomposable tournament T, if $T{\notin}{\tau}$, then ${\mid}W_5(T){\mid}{\geq}{\mid}V{\mid}$ -2 and ${\mid}W_5(T){\mid}{\geq}{\mid}V{\mid}$ -1 if ${\mid}V{\mid}$ is even. By giving examples, we also verify that this statement is optimal.

  • The purpose of this study is to find out about unknown golf activities through sociological analysis based on the relationship between King Youngchin's life in Japan and the people around him. The following conclusions were drawn. King Youngchin was influenced by the Japanese imperial family to learn golf for the first time in 1924, and participated in golf tournaments in 1925. In 1927, during a one-year European tour, he participated in golf games in Singapore, Paris, Switzerland, England, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Italy, as well as golf course tours, golf lessons, and visiting golf ball manufacturing factories. After returning from Europe, he provided support for the site of Gyeongseong Gunjari Golf Course, construction and operation expenses. However, he did not show any special golf activities during his life as a high class Japanese military officer, and after the Pacific War, he could not find any more golf activities due to social conditions and economic conditions such as wartime restoration. There were no more golf activities due to health problems from 1958.

  • The purpose of this study is to propose a standard putting green management program to prepare fast green suitable for international golf tournaments, and to conform whether the reported green speed model can be applied to the real field situations. The west course of Lakeside Country Club was selected for the case study. This study was initiated on August 1st, 2001 and continued through October 4th, 2001. The results are summarized as follows: 1. Following the long-term schedule, 'penncross' creeping bentgrass turf was mowed at 5.0mm(37days), 4.5mm(8days), 4.0mm(4days), 3.5mm(2days), 3.2mm(2days), 3.0mm(2days), 2.8mm(2days) and the mowing direction was changed daily. Variation of mowing height was reduced to a minimum range. Core aerification with deep tines was applied 19 days prior to the first practice round. Dry sand maintenance was top-dressed 2 times at 1.5mm/$m^2$ on the 17th day and 1.0mm/$m^2$ on the 10th day. Minimum irrigation was applied to keep the turf alive. During the tournament preparation week, dew on the putting greens was removed by using a sponge roller. Following the dew removal, the greens were cut once each morning at a height of 2.8mm. The mower used was the 21 inch working behind mower equipped with a tournament bedknife and 11 reel blades. Following the mowing, the peens were rolled with a light-weight roller in one direction in the morning. Rolling was used as a finishing technique to ensure that the surface was as smooth as possible, and to provide true ball roll and maximum green speed. In conclusion these management practices satisfied the daily green stimpmeter readings required for USGA championship play. 2. During the period of tournament preparation, no damage was observed on the green, but scalping in green edge appeared in about 0.39% of the total area of 18 greens in the west course.

  • The improvement of abilities of utilizing information as well as the education of information is coming to the fore as a really significant matter for students living in knowledge and information-oriented society of the 21st century. In this respect, this study aims to develop a teaching and learning model for technical high school students who need mon desire and comprehensive faculty of their learning and to testify its efficiency by relating their abilities of using in with their curriculum. We propose a teaching and learning model, LT&T, which lets the students have academic interests and perform continuously learning activities by helping students themselves to find their achievements of learning and their learning ability. The LT&T teaching and learning model, proposed in this paper, is developed by combining LT and Tournaments, and it enhances individual several intellectual powers, and also activates the academic interests to increase the effects of learning. After we had a class using the LT and the LT&T, we conducted a sample survey of which results show that learning effects of LT&T is better than that of LT by students of more 80%.
