  • The present paper describes a technique for installing an effective grounding grids, the major objective is forced on the experimental evaluation of the performance and characteristics with the arrangement and installation method for grounding grids consisting of the means to protect electric shock, electronics and computerized facilities against lightning, switching and ground fault surges. The study is oriented on two major areas: (1) the analysis of the ground surface potential gradient with the arrangement of grounding grids, (2) the control of the dangerous ground surface potential rise. The experiments wee carried out with the impulse currents as a function of the installation method or arrangement of grounding grids. An installation method of the inclined auxiliary grounding grid was proposed to overcome the drawbacks of equally spared grounding grids, i.e. an appropriate design concept far the installation of grounding grids was found out, It has been shown that the installation of the intwined auxiliary grounding grid can also result in a mere than 50% decrease in the maximum potential gradient on the ground surface and enhance the level of safety for persons and electronic equipments..

  • Miniature ultrasonic and tactile sensors on Si substrate have been proposed, fabricated and characterized to detect objects for a dexterous robot. The ultrasonic sensor consists of piezoelectric PZT thin film on a Pt/Ti/$SiO_2$ and/or Si diaphragm fabricated using a micromachining technique; the ultrasonic sensor detects the piezoelectric voltage as an ultrasonic wave. The sensitivity has been enhanced by improving the device structure, and the resonant frequency in the array sensor has been equalized. Position detection has been carried out by using a sensor array with high sensitivity and uniform resonant frequency. The tactile sensor consists of four or three warped cantilevers which have NiCr or $Si:B^+$ piezoresistive layer for stress detection. Normal and shear stresses can be estimated by calculation using resistance changes of the piezoresitive layers on the cantilevers. Gripping state has been identified by using the tactile sensor which is installed on finger of a robot hand, and friction of objects has been measured by slipping the sensor.

  • This paper reports the enhanced fabrication and characterization of a $3{\times}3$ array tactile actuator composed of cellulose acetate. The array tactile actuator, with dimensions of $15{\times}15{\times}1mm^3$, consists of 9 pillar-supported cells made from a cellulose-acetate molding. The fabrication process and performance test along with the results for the suggested actuator are explained. To improve the cell-array fabrication, a laser cut was adopted after the molding process. The displacement of the unit cell increased the input voltage and frequency. Various top masses are added onto the actuator to mimic the touch force, and the acceleration of the actuator is measured under actuation. When 2 kV is applied to the actuator, the maximum acceleration is 0.64 g, which is above the vibrotactile threshold. The actuation mechanism is associated with the electrostatic force between the top and bottom electrodes.

  • In this paper, designing of an earthing system in accordance with international standards with regard to 22.9kV-y multi-grounded neutral system is discussed and confirmed that the consumer's earthing system can be a part of a global earthing system by interconnecting its earthing system with the neutral conductor of 22.9kV-y multi-grounded system. Further, it is proposed that some modification of the earthing system design flowchart given in the international standards are necessary when considering the equipotential bonding, lightning protection, and telecommunications facilities as well as the basic safety requirements.

  • In this paper, we evaluate safety of grounding system which is designed according to IEC standards. Safety assessment of construction site and grounding system of building is needed before construction for the safety of human in building. Until now, in case of domestic field, design of grounding system is proceeded based on methods which are proposed in IEEE Std. 80. In other words, it is not in the situation that grounding system is designed based on IEC standards. Therefore, we propose a method which designs grounding system and evaluates safety of it according to IEC standards. We measure ground resistance of construction site using measuring equipment of ground resistance. Using this value, soil structure and ground resistivity are obtained through program analysis. CDEGS program of SES company is used for simulation analysis.

  • This paper presents the final configuration of test field and test items for the application of IEC 60364-4-44 in Korea. IEC 60364-4-44 provides rules for the protection against the effects of conducted and radiated disturbances on electrical installations. Especially this standard deals with the protection of low voltage facility against the ground fault in the high voltage side of power distribution system. Many countries define the regulations on the use of electrical facilities based on their own power system and technical references which are considered to be suitable for them. The background of circuit of IEC 60364-4-44 is based on the ungrounded system as most of European countries. However, domestic electric power distribution system is based on multi-grounding system different from European system. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate or prove the effect of the IEC 60364-4-44 for introducing and applying it to the domestic grounding system as a national standard. The authors with KEA(Korea Electric Association) carried out a project on the application of IEC 60364-4-44 to Korean electrical installations of buildings sponsored by Korean ministry of commerce, industry and energy for three years(2004.4.1$\sim$2007.3.31). The test field is established in K.E.R.I.(Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute), which is the purpose of evaluating the formula to calculate touch voltage and stress voltage in the IEC standards. This paper presents some considerations and final configuration of test field to evaluate and introduce the IEC 60364-4-44 applicable to domestic rule for the protection against ground fault.

  • Recently, various research studies have been conducted and many are in progress for the suitable alternative materials for ITO based touch screen panel (TSP) due to limitations in size and flexibility. Various researches from all over the world have been attempted to fabricate the fine electrode less than $5{\mu}m$ for the rapid developing of display technology. Research is also being carried out in metal mesh methods using the existing technologies and alternative materials at commercial level. However, by using the existing technologies certain discrepancies are observed like low transparency and low yield which also results in the distortion of patterns. For repairing the damaged pattern, the conventional laser CVD technique has also been used but there are some challenges observed in CVD technique like achieving a stable fine electrode of $10{\mu}m$ or less and avoiding the formation of satellite drops. To overcome these issues, a new printing process named Electrohydrodynamic (EHD) printing, has been introduced by which $5{\mu}m$ fine patterns can be printed in one step. This EHDA printing technique has been applied to print very fine electrodes of $5{\mu}m$ or less by using conductive inks of various viscosities. This study also presents the optimized process parameters for printing $5{\mu}m$ fine electrode patterns during experiments by controlling the applied voltage and supply flow rate. The $5{\mu}m$ repair electrodes were fabricated for repairing $50{\mu}m$ shorted electrode samples.

  • Piezoelectric energy harvesting has attracted increasing attention over the last decade as a means for generating sustainable and long-lasting energy from wasted mechanical energy. To develop self-powered wearable devices, piezoelectric materials should be flexible, stretchable, and bio-eco-friendly. This study proposed the fabrication of stretchable piezoelectric composites via dispersing perovskite-structured BaTiO3 nanoparticles inside an Ecoflex polymeric matrix. In particular, the stretchable piezoelectric sensor array was fabricated via a simple and cost-effective spin-coating process by exploiting the piezoelectric composite comprising of BaTiO3 nanoparticles, Ecoflex matrix, and stretchable Ag coated textile electrodes. The fabricated sensor generated an output voltage of ~4.3 V under repeated compressing deformations. Moreover, the piezoelectric sensor array exhibited robust mechanical stability during mechanical pushing of ~5,000 cycles. Finite element method with multiphysics COMSOL simulation program was employed to support the experimental output performance of the fabricated device. Finally, the stretchable piezoelectric sensor array can be used as a self-powered touch sensor that can effectively detect and distinguish mechanical stimuli, such as pressing by a human finger. The fabricated sensor demonstrated potential to be used in a stretchable, lead-free, and scalable piezoelectric sensor array.

  • A novel grounding system, which is presented in IEC 60364, has been adopted since 2021. A safety evaluation for the human body on the grounding system is required due to the various characteristics of the touch voltage and current passing when the human body experiences an electric shock. The Korea Electrical Safety Corporation (KESCO) and Korea Electric Association (KEA) have been conducting a safety technical education on the grounding system. On the other hand, it is difficult to instruct the electrical safety manager because of a lack of safety evaluations for the test equipment on the grounding system. Therefore, this paper modeled and implemented a test device for a safety evaluation depending on the grounding system of IEC 60364. Namely, this paper presents the modeling of the test device for a safety evaluation using PSCAD/EMTDC S/W, which is composed of an AC grid section, s test device section on the grounding system, and a sub-device section. This paper implemented a test device for safety evaluation, which consisted of an AC grid section, TT grounding system section, TN-S grounding system section, and monitoring section. From the simulation and test results with the safety characteristics of the human body in the TT and TN-S grounding system, when the fault impedances are 0[Ω], 10[Ω], and 100[Ω], the currents passing through the human body in the TT grounding system are 104[mA], 87.4[mA], and 35.5[mA], respectively. The corresponding currents in the TN-S grounding system are 54.9[mA], 4.1[mA], and 0.4[mA], respectively. Based on the results, the protection performance for an electric shock to the human body in the TN-S system is better than the TT system. This can be improved when the existing grounding system is changed from the TT system to the TN-S system.
