The sliding wear behavior of ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) was examined on a novel low temperature degradation-free zirconia/alumina composite material and conventional alumina and zirconia ceramics used for femoral head in total hip joint replacement. The wear of UHMWPE pins against these ceramic disks was evaluated by performing linear reciprocal sliding and repeat pass rotational sliding tests for one million cycles in bovine serum. The weight loss of polyethylene against the novel low temperature degradation-free zirconia/alumina composite disks was much less than those against conventional ceramics for all tests. The mean weight loss of the polyethylene pins was more io the linear reciprocal sliding test than in the repeal pass rotational sliding lest for all kinds of disk materials. Neither the coherent transfer film nor the surface damage was observed on the surface of the novel zirconia/alumina composite disks during the test. The observed r,'stilts indicated that the wear of the polyethylene was closely related to contacting materials and kinematic motions. In conclusion, the novel zirconia/alumina composite leads the least wear of polyethylene among the tested ceramics and demonstrates the potential as lhe alternative materials for femoral head in total hip joint replacement.
This study was conducted to examine the comfortability of wearing pantyhose in summer. To satisfy this purpose. 4 types of pantyhose were chosen from the market: a Mono type(M), a Wooly type(W), and two Support types(Sl, S2), were chosen. After the performances of samples were measured, these were worn by 8 healthy adult women. Under the summer field environment, psychological comfort ability was examined through the 5 steps of SD method. Physiological comfort ability was examined by measuring the body reactions(clothing pressure, skin temperature, total body weight loss, rectal temperature, pulse rates, and blood pressure), under the artificial environment($28.5{\pm}0.5^{\circ}C$, $82{\pm}3%$). The results of this examination were as follows : The order of comfortability which people felt in the field was W>M>S1>S2. The number of items which showed the highest correlation with comfort ability decreased and the correlation was lowered on the whole as time went by. There was positive high correlation between the performances of samples and comfort ability in compressibility, air permeability, water vapor permeability, while a negative high correlation in thickness, weight, compressional resiliency, strain (course) and moisture regain. The mean skin temperature was in the comfort zone, and rectal temperature, pulse rates, blood pressure were mostly in the normal range. Also it was showed that the correlation between the performance of samples and body reactions, except total body weight loss, was low.
The present study investigated the impact of parity 1 gilt body weight during late gestation (d 109) on subsequent reproductive performance of sows and performance of suckling pigs. A total of 2,404 farrowing records over 6 parities were divided into six groups on the basis of body weight (190, 200, 210, 220, 230, and 240 kg) at d 109 of gestation of 585 gilts. Significant effects (p<0.05) of body weight on sow retention rate was noticed, with the 210 kg group having the lowest culling rate and highest total number of piglets born alive over the 6 parities. With increase of body weight, a linear increase (p<0.05) in losses of body weight and backfat during the lactation period of parity 1 and a linear decrease (p<0.05) in backfat loss for parities 4 and 6 were found. Compared with light sows, heavy sows had higher (p<0.05) litter weight at birth for parities 1 and 2 and at weaning in parity 1. Sow weaning-to-estrus interval of sows was not influenced (p>0.05) by body weight. In conclusion, maintaining optimal body weight during gestation would be beneficial to sows and suckling piglets.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the nutritional status and dietary intake of gastrectomized cancer patients. For this study, from 1993. 1 to 1993. 8, 50 postoperative gastric cancer patients were selected to examine anthropometric and laboratory data(Body Weight, Body Fat, serum Albumin, Total Lympocyte count), and dietary intake related symptoms. The results were 1) All anthropometric and laboratory data were significantly deteriorated by gastrectomy(s-Albumin, TLC. Body Fat : p<0.001). Weight loss of gastrectomized patients was 8.23$\pm$3.72% from admission to discharge. 2) In many gastrectomized cancer patients, preoperative dietary intake was decreased by abdominal discomfort, indigestion, early satiety, and anorexia. 3) Postoperative energy intake was 602$\pm$158㎉, and it is correspond to 31.18$\pm$.90% of daily energy requirement(1918$\pm$236㎉). The cause of poor oral intake is mostly fear, abdominal distension and fullness, and early satiety. In consideration of the fact that an inadequate energy intake was the main cause of the decreasing nutritional status, a careful nutritional care and dietary education is necessry after gastrectomy.

To understand the relationship among different quantitative traits, correlation studies were performed by utilizing eighty-eight inbred strains of silkworm, Bombyx mori L. on twelve economic characters. Analysis resulted in correlation of 5th instar period with total larval period (r = 0.7882), cocoon weight with shell weight (r = 0.8326), shell weight with shell ratio (r = 0.5067), shell ratio with raw silk % (r = 0.7570), raw silk % with filament length (r = 0.3490), filament size (denier) with reelability (r = 0.3193) and boil-off loss % (r = 0.2792). Negative correlation was observed among filament length with filament size (r = 0.7582) and reelability with boil-off loss % (r = -0.3236). Correlation of different quantitative characters for quality silk production is discussed.
Fermented sausages inoculated with starter cultures which were combined Lactobacillus curvatus and Staphylococcus carnosus(LCSC), Lactobacillus plantarum and Staphylococcus carnosus(LPSC) were manufac-tured. changes in chemical composition salinity weight loss fatty acids inosine monophosphate(IMP) and hypoxanthine (Hx) and fee amino acids during ripening of fermented sausages were investigated. Due to drying the water content was decreased while the protein and fat contents salinity and weight low were increased during ripening. No significant differences between LCSC and LPSC were found for chemical composition salinity and weight loss. During ripening unsaturated fatty acid contents was dec-reased while saturated fatty acid contents was increased. At the end of the ripening the levels of mon-oenes were slightly higher in the LPSC than in the LCSC. In both treatments IMP contents were dec-reased but no changes were observed in Hx contents during ripening. Due to ripening the increase in total and individual free amino acids were observed and contents of glutamic acid alanine leucine and lysine were greatly increased.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the dietary intakes and nutritional status in total gastrectomized patients. We assessed the nutritional status by dietary intake, anthropometric data and biochemical data. And we also checked the subjective postprandial symptoms and gastrofiberscopy to detect the reflux esophagitis in 22 patients who were free of tumors for more than 1 year after total gastrectomy by the three different reconstruction methods(Loop esophagojejunostomy with A-loop tie/ Roux-en-Y esophagojejunostomy/Roux-en-Y esophagojejunostomy with Paulino pouch). Any patients were not in malnutrition status in respect to biochemical data. By assessing the dietary intake, the average daily calorie intake was 1848.2$\pm$440.2kcal, it was 105.9$\pm$23.8% of energy requirement. But there was weight loss in 21 patients of 22 patients after operation and the weight loss was 12.8% of preoperative weight(61.0$\pm$7.9 vs. 53.5$\pm$6.7kg, preoperatively vs. at the time of study). This may suggest that continuous nutritional care is necessary after total gastrectomy to promote sufficient calorie intake, keeping good nutritional state. There were no significant differences between the methods of reconstruction and dietary intakes or nutritional status. Endoscopic esophagitis was more frequently found in patients of loop esophagojejunostomy than any other reconstruction methods(p<0.001), but it didn't show any effect on the dietary intakes.

Total ankle replacement (TAR) is a visible option in the surgical treatment of degenerative or inflammatory diseases of ankle joint. it is attributed to the current TAR which has improvements in surgical technique, uncemented implant fixation and minimally constrained articulation. In the clinical result, they can show promised surgical result when compared to earlier attempts in TAR. However, TAR is still not as successful as total knee replacement (TKR) or total hip replacement (THR), it needs to be note that there are limitations in concerning of long term performance of TAR, the high failure rate still associated with wear of the PE (polyethylene) component that has related with their material property and surface roughness. The aim of this study was to introduce the tribology characteristics of total ankle joint prosthesis with one of TDR model which was fabricated to try multi-axis wear test as a region of motion in ankle joint. The wear specimen of TDR was prepared with Ti-6Al-4V alloy and UHMWPE (ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene) for tibia-talus and bearing component, respectively. A wear test was carried out using a Force 5 (AMTI, Massachusetts, US) wear simulator which can be allowed to move in three axis to flexion-extension ($+3^{\circ}{\sim}-6^{\circ}$), internal-external axial rotation (${\pm}5^{\circ}$), as well as sinusoidal compressive load (1.6 kN, R=10). All tests were performed following standard ISO 14243, wear rate was calculated with weight loss of UHMWPE bearing while the specimen has tested at certain cycles. As based on the preliminary results, wear rate of UHMWPE bearing was $7.9{\times}10^{-6}mg/cycles$ ($R^2=0.86$), calculated loss weight until $10^7cycles$ was 79 mg, respectively.
The relationship between exercise and hone mineral density (BMD) was investigated in 153 healthy women. The BMD of lumbar spine, femur(neck, ward's triangle, trochanter) and total body was determined by dual energy X-ray absorptiometry in a group subjects(65) aged 19-59 years who had been exercising(swimming or aerobic dancing) regularly for at least 2 years as well as in a similar group of nonexercising control subjects(88). Weight, height, total lean body mass(=weight-total fat body mass-bone mineral content), animal and meat Ca, Ca index, energy expenditure, BMD, PYD/Cr were significantly higher in the exercisers than the controls. There were significantly negative correlations between age, ALP and osteocalcin and BMD, but significantly positive correlations between weight, BMI, total fat body mass and total lean body mass and BMD. Stepwise multiple regression analysis revealed that total lean body mass may be a better independent predictor to BMD than total fat body mass. The nutrient intakes were more closely related to BMD in the exercisers than the controls, but energy expenditure was more closely related to BMD in the controls than the exercisers Stepwise multiple regression analysis revealed that BMD was closely related to menopause, osteocalcin, age, weight in both groups but energy intake in the exercisers alone, energy expenditure in control alone. In premenopausal women, the exercisers had significantly greater BMD than the controls. But, in postmenopausal women, no significant difference between two groups was detected. When compared to BMD of the subjects with same age range to minimize the effect of age, aerobic dancing appears to be capable of exerting a positive effect on BMD in a group of subjects aged 19-44. However, no relationship of the swimming to BMD could be identified in a group of subjects aged 37-59. The results of this study suggest that the usefulness of exercisng appears to be significantly greater in preemenopausal women than postmenoparusal women and weight bearing activity, aerobic dancing is associated with increasing BMD at the weight bearing sites and could be beneficial in the prevention of bone loss. But the usefulness of swimming on bone should be further investgated.
The effects of a hypocaloric diet with or without strength training on body fat distribution and serum lipid concentrations in obese elderly women were investigated. Twenty-six healthy women (age 66±4.6 yr; body mass index 32.3±2.9 kg/m2) were randomly assigned to 3 groups: control (C; n=8), hypocaloric diet (DO; n=9) or hypocaloric diet with strength training (DST; n=9). Subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT), visceral adipose tissue (VAT), and inter and intra muscular adipose tissue (IMAT) were measured using magnetic resonance imaging. Serum lipid concentrations including total cholesterol (TC), high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDLC), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDLC), and triglycerides (TG) were measured. No significant changes occurred in body weight and percent body fat in the C group over the 16-week period. The DO and DST groups lost similar amounts of weight and fat after 16 weeks. SAT and VAT decreased after weight loss in the DO and DST groups but not in the C group. IMAT was significantly reduced in the DO and DST groups, whereas in the C group IMAT increased. The loss in IMAT mass was similar in the DO and DST groups. TC and LDLC decreased in the DO and DST groups but not in the C group. There were no differences between the DO and DST groups in decrease in TC and LDLC. HDLC decreased in the DO group but not in the C and DST groups. TG tended to decrease in the DST group. In conclusion, body fat distribution including SAT, VAT, and IMAT and serum lipid concentratons were modulated by weight loss resulting from the hypocaloric diet with or without strength training in obese elderly women. Strength training did not enhance the improvement in body fat distribution and serum TC and LDLC concentrations by the hypocaloric diet.
