Pressure drop and fractional collection efficiency of automotive cabin air filters were examined to obtain the basic data for the development of high performance domestic cabin air filters. Pressure drop of MA-V100 was higher than that of VF-V100, and it increased with the air flow rate. VF-V100 had longer time to rise the critical pressure drop than that MA-V100 had. Total collection efficiency of MA-V100 for initial and dust loaded conditions was higher than that of VF-V100. Also, fractional collection efficiency of MA-V100 for the fine particles was higher than that of VF-V100. Particla size distribution for the minimum collection efficiency ranged from 0.02 $\mu$m to 0.04 $\mu$m for MA-V100 and it ranged from 0.02 $\mu$m to 0.15 $\mu$m for VF-V100.
In this study, two kinds of industrial filter bags were tested for their filtration performance to apply the existing bag filter systems. Experimental variables were examined for pressure drop, cleaning interval, residual pressure drop, cleaning efficiency, fractional grade efficiency, total collection efficiency according to the filter bag structure. According to these results, the filter bags tested in this study demonstrated good performance in dust collection. This was also true for the double surface filter bag. The lifetime was longer than the round type filter bag because the filtration area was more than 1.6 times wider and the filter quality factor was much higher. Therefore, double surface filter bags are suggested to be used in order to increase filtration performance of the bag filter systems.
Bent duct 는 손실을 가중시키고, 효율을 저하시킨다. 지금까지 bent duct에 대한 많은 연구가 진행되었지만, 입구와 출구가 같은 형상에 대해서 연구가 되어왔다. 이번 연구에서는 입구는 환형이지만, 출구는 원형을 가진 bent duct에 대해서 진행되었다. 입구 속도 54 m/s, 레이놀즈수 238,000에서 수행된 이번 연구에서는 bent duct 바깥에 태핑홀을 배치하여 정압분포를 확인하고, 입구와 출구에서 5공 프로브로 유동을 측정하여 스트림 방향 속도 프로파일과 전압 손실 계수를 얻었다. 본 연구에서는 전압 손실 계수, 0.243를 얻었다.
Fan performances are obtained with various tip clearance gaps and stagger angles of the rotor. A tested fan is an axial-type fan of which the casing diameter is 806 mm. Two different rotors are applied to this test. One is designed on the basis of the free vortex method along the radial direction and the other is designed using the forced vortex method. The operating conditions are varied to the ultimate off-design point as well as the deign point. Overall efficiency, total pressure and input power are compared with the tip clearance gaps and different stagger angle. The experimental results show that changing of the stagger angle has minor influence to the performance when the same rotor is applied. When the tip clearance gap is less than 5% of the rotor span, the overall efficiency, total pressure loss and input power reduction are varied linearly with the variation of the tip clearance gaps. On the design point, the overall efficiency is decreased to the rate of 2.8-2.9 to the increasing of the tip clearance, but the changing rate of the overall efficiency is alleviated when the fan operates at off-design points. In particular, this rate is more quickly declined on a fan with the rotor designed using the forced vortex method. The result of the total pressure shows that the pressure reduction rate is a 0.08-0.1 according to the tip clearance, and additionally the input power reduction rate is a 0.045-0.065 at design point.
Turbo-fan for ceiling cassette type air conditioner doesn't operate in general volute. It is operated by porous material, heat exchanger. Heat exchanger increases resistance of air conditioning system and disturbs exit-flow of impeller. Therefore it has some influences on impeller capacity. In this study, we want to how that influence of exchanger on impeller capacity for ceiling cassette type air conditioner. To research, we made circular case that didn't have asymmetric part unlike rectangular case. With and without heat exchanger we measured total pressure and static pressure of impeller and three-dimensional rear flow field From the result, a turbo fan , installed in the 35mm back of fan and operated in heat exchanger, experienced $2{\%}{\~}5{\%}$% total pressure loss over all flow rate. With heat exchanger impeller efficiency decrease as flow rate decrease when flow rate coefficient was below 0.18. Especially when flow rate coefficient was below 0.12, there was $20{\%}{\~}30{\%}$ decrease of impeller efficiency.
In analyzing the operational characteristics of a rice whitening machine, the internal radial pressure of the machine was measured using strain gage equipment. Changes in cylinder and feed screw configurations, screen type, cylinder speed and counter-pressure levels were examined to determine their impact on the quality and quantity of milled rice and the performance of the machine. The results are summarized as follows: 1. The internal radial pressure in the whitening chamber varied with the surface condition of the grain being processed. During the first or second pass through the machine, pressure was relatively low, reached a maximum after two to three passes with combinations I and II, three to six with combination III and then began to fall. 2. The pitch of the feed screw and the size of the feed gate opening which determine the rate of entry of grain into the whitening chamber, appeared to be the most important factor aff-::cting the degree of radial pressure, quality and quantity of milled rice and the efficiency of the machine. Using a feed screw with a wide pitch (4.8cm), radial pressure was relatively high and head rice recovery ratio \vere quite low. In this case capacity and machine effic?iency were much higher than obtained when using a feed screw with a narrow pitch (2.3cm). Very significant responses in radial pressure, head rice recovery rates and machine capacity were observed with changes in cylinder speed and counter-pressure levels when using the wide pitch feed screw. 3. The characteristics of the screen which surrounds the whitening chamber had an important effect on whitening efficiency. The existence of small protuberances on the original screen resulted in significant increases in both machine capacity and efficiency but without a significant decrease in head rice recovery or development of excessive radial pressure. Further work is required to determine the effects of screen surface conditions and the shape of the cylinderical steel roller on the rate of bran removal, machine efficiency and recovery rates. The size of the slotted perforations 0:1 the screen affects total milled rice recovery. The opening size on the original screen was fabricated to accommodate the round shape of Japonica rice varieties but was not suitable for the more slender Indica type. Milling Indica varieties with this screen resulted in a reduction in total milled rice recovery. 4. An increase in cylinder speed from 380 to 820 rpm produced a positive effect on head rice recovery for all machine combinations at every level of counter-pressure used in the tests. Head rice recovery was considerably lower at 380rpm using a wide screw pitch when compared to the results obtained at speeds from 600 to 820 r.p.m. The effects of cylinder speed On radial pressure, capacity and machine efficiency showed contrasting results, depending on the width of the feed screw pitch. With a narrow feed screw pitch (2.3cm), a direct proportional relationship was observed bet?ween cylinder speed and both radial pressure and machine efficiency. In contrast, using a 4.8 centimeter pitch feed roller produced a series of inverse relationships between the above variables. Based on the results of this study it is recommended when milling Indica type long grain rice varieties that the cylinder speed of the original machine be increased from 500-600 rmp up to a minimum of 800 rpm to obtain a greater abrasive effect between the grain and the screen. The pitch of the feed screw should be also reduced to decr?ease the level of internal radial pressure and to obtain higher machine efficiency and increased quality of milled rice with increased cylinder speeds. Further study on the interaction between cylinder speed and feed screw pitch is recommended. 5. An increase in the counter pressure level produced a negative effect On the head rice recovery with an increase in radial pressure, capacity, and machine efficiency over all combinations and at every level of cylinder speed. 6. Head rice recovery rates were conditioned primarily by the pressure inside the whitening chamber. In particular, when using high feed rates, the total number of passes should be increased to more than three by reducing the counter-pressure level to avoid decreaseases in head rice recovery (less than 65 percent head rice recovery on the basis of brown rice) at every cylinder speed. 7. A rapid rise in grain temperature seemed to have a close relationship with the pressure generated inside the whitening chamber and, subsequently with head rice reco?very rates. The higher the rate of increase, the lower were the resulting head rice recoveries.

In this study the effects of fluid viscosity on the pump performances for a conventional centrifugal pump were experimentally investigated. The study aimed to compare the pump characteristics between water and viscosity fluids. In order to measure the flow rate and pressure, v-notch welt and bourdon pressure gauges were used for the codes of KS B6301 and KS B6302. The working fluids were water, aqueous sugar and glycerin solutions. The results were summarized as follows : The experimental results were summarized as follows : the pump characteristics of the total head, shaft power, and efficiency with high viscosity fluids were different from those of water. When the viscosity of the applied fluid was increased, the total head and efficiency were more decreased than those of water. The decreasing gradients of the total head and the efficiency were larger than water due to the increased disk friction losses at the duty operation point. However, the shut-off head was almost constant regardless the viscosity of applied fluids. Each efficiency curves for the sugar $20w\%$ and glycerin $20w\%$ solutions was decreased up to $15.1\%$ and $34.4\%$ than that of water, respectively.
This study examined the separation characteristics of particles in the rainfall runoff from paved roads using a ${\varphi}7.5$ cm hydrocyclone. The volume fraction and total suspended solids concentrations in the overflow and underflow from the hydrocyclone, as well as the separation efficiency were determined. The results indicated that the overflow volume increased with increasing operational pressure, but decreased with decreasing ratio of underflow outlet to inlet sizes ($D_u/D_i$), while the underflow to overflow volumes showed contrary behavior. The total suspended solid (TSS) concentration ratio between the overflow and inflow ($TSS_{over/in}$) decreased as a function of the operational pressure, while the corresponding ratio of underflow to inflow ($TSS_{under/in}$) increased. There was no visible difference in the $TSS_{over/in}$ with increasing $D_u/D_i$ ratio, but the $TSS_{under/in}$ decreased sharply. The particle removal efficiency was mainly affected by the particle size.
