Flows in the centrifugal compressor volute with circular cross section are numerically investigated. The computational grid for the calculation utilized a multi-block arrangement to form a butterfly grid and flow calculations are performed using commercial CFD software, CFX-TASCflow. The centrifugal compressor of this study has axial diffuser after radial diffuser because of the shape of inlet duct and installation constraints. Due to this feature the swirling flow pattern is different from the other investigations. The flow inside volute is very complex and three dimensional with strong vortex and recirculation through volute tongue. The calculation results show circumferential variations of the swirl and through flow velocity and pressure distribution. The mechanism deciding flow structure is explained by considering the force balance in volute cross section. And static pressure recovery and total pressure loss are estimated from the calculated results and compared with Japikse model.

The purpose of this study was to explore the prevalence of hypertension in Haiti and to describe regional characteristics, and thus to speculate Haitian specific regional risk factors. This is a descriptive and comparative study. Subjects were 145 male/female Haitians, who aged between 30 and 59 and have lived in rural areas, had their hypertension indicators being screened. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-test and ANOVA. More than four fifth of the subjects (82.8%) showed pre-hypertensive or moderate to severe hypertensive condition. 65.5% of the total had abnormal pulse pressure ($PP{\geq}50$) and 13.8% of the sample showed tachycardia (Heart $Rate{\geq}100$). Female Haitian tended to have higher diastolic blood pressure and faster heart rate than male Haitian. The residents who lived in Part 5-1 area with less accessibility to drinking water tended to have higher systolic and diastolic pressure. Hydration status of Haitians was highly considered as an affecting factor on the distribution of hypertension as evidenced by different level of accessibility to drinking water.
The Silica gel with the density of 0.2g/cm3 and porosity of 90% was synthesized. The silica wet gel was dried and heat-treated under the ambient pressure after modification of the wet gel surface by TMCS. Specific surface area total pore volume and mean pore radius of dried gel were all increased with increasing heat treatment temperature and confirmed about 1400m2/g, 4.5cc/g and 8 nm respectively after heat treatment above 25$0^{\circ}C$. But the pore size distribution of dried gel was in the range of 1-100nm and was almost indepen-dent of temperature. As the result of external shape pore characteristics and microstructure of gel using SEM similar properties were observed between the silica gel synthesized in this study and the silica aerogel through the super critical drying.

Pressure drop and fractional collection efficiency of automotive cabin air filters were examined to obtain the basic data for the development of high performance domestic cabin air filters. Pressure drop of MA-V100 was higher than that of VF-V100, and it increased with the air flow rate. VF-V100 had longer time to rise the critical pressure drop than that MA-V100 had. Total collection efficiency of MA-V100 for initial and dust loaded conditions was higher than that of VF-V100. Also, fractional collection efficiency of MA-V100 for the fine particles was higher than that of VF-V100. Particla size distribution for the minimum collection efficiency ranged from 0.02 $\mu$m to 0.04 $\mu$m for MA-V100 and it ranged from 0.02 $\mu$m to 0.15 $\mu$m for VF-V100.

The performance analysis test of the scramjet engine intake was conducted under the Mach 5 condition of the scramjet engine test facility, a free-jet ground test facility of the Korea Aerospace Research Institute. A pitot/static pressure rake installed at the rear of the isolator was designed and manufactured to measure the total pressure recovery rate and mass capture ratio, which are typical performance factors of the scramjet engine intake. The effect of the rake mounted at the rear of the isolator on the intake, the performance analysis measured by the rake, and the change in wall static pressure distribution according to the angle of attack were performed. Finally, the point at which the intake unstart occurred was confirmed by using the rear back pressure adjusting device, which simulates pressure rise in the combustor, and the results are summarized in this paper.

In this study, computer simulation programs were developed for single-stage, two-stage, and three-stage condensation heat pumps and their performance with CFC11, HCFC123, HCFC141b was examined under the same external conditions. The results showed that the coefficient of performance(COP) of an optimized 'non-split type' three-stage condensation heat pump is 25-42% higher than that of a conventional single-stage heat pump. The increase in COP, however, differed among the fluids tested. The improvement in COP is largely due to the decrease in average LMTDs in condensers, which results in the decrease in thermodynamic irreversibility in heat exchange process. For the three-stage heat pump, the highest COP is achieved when the total condenser area is evenly distributed among the three condensers. For the two-stage heat pump, however, the optimum distribution of the total condenser area varies with an individual working fluid. For the three-stage system, 'splitting the condenser cooling water'for the use of intermediate and high pressure subcoolers helps increase the COP further. When the individual cooling water entering the intermediate and high pressure subcoolers is roughly 10% of the total condenser cooling water, the maximum COP is achieved showing roughly an 11% increase in COP as compared to that of the 'non-split type' heat pump.
There are many parameters that affect the natural circulation flow, such as height difference, heating power size, pipe diameter, system pressure and inlet temperature and so on. In general analysis the heating power is often regarded as a uniform distribution. The ANSYS-CFX numerical analysis software was used to analyze the flow heat transfer of supercritical water under different heating power distribution conditions. The distribution types of uniform, power increasing, power decreasing and sine function are investigated. Through the analysis, it can be concluded that different power distribution has a great influence on the flow of natural circulation if the total power of heating is constant. It was found that the peak flow of supercritical water natural circulation is maximal when the distribution of heating power is monotonically decreasing, minimal when it is monotonically increasing, and moderate at uniform or the sine type of heating. The simulation results further reveal the supercritical water under different heat transfer conditions on its flow characteristics. It can provide certain theory reference and system design for passive residual heat removal system about supercritical water.

In the process of integrity evaluation for nuclear power plant components, a series of fracture mechanics evaluation on surface cracks in reactor pressure vessel(RPV) must be conducted. These fracture mechanics evaluation are based on stress intensity factor, K. However, under pressurized thermal shock(PTS) conditions, the combination of thermal and mechanical stress by steep temperature gradient and internal pressure causes considerably high tensile stress at the inside of RPV wall. Besides, the internal pressure during the normal operation produces high tensile stress at the RPV wall. As a result, cracks on inner surface of RPVs may experience elastic-plastic behavior which can be explained with J-integral. In such a case, however, J-integral may possibly lose its validity due to constraint effect. In this paper, in order to verify the suitability of J-integral, tow dimensional finite element analyses were applied for various surface cracks. A total of 18 crack geometries were analyzed, and $\Omega$ stresses were obtained by comparing resulting HRR stress distribution with corresponding actual stress distributions. In conclusion, HRR stress fields were found to overestimate the actual crack-tip stress field due to constraint effect.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the changes in the contact area, maximum pressure, maximum mean pressure, and maximum force of functional insoles and general insoles when walking. Methods: Foot pressure was measured by the ignition of functional insoles and general insoles on Company N shoes. The foot pressure was measured using a precision pressure distribution meter (Pedar - X mobile system, Novel, Germany). Each insole sensor contained 99 independent cells and was inserted between the foot and the shoe. A wireless Bluetooth-type program was used to measure the pressure detected by the measuring insoles. In order to eliminate adaptation and fatigue caused by wearing the guide during the experiment, sufficient rest was taken between each experiment, and the wearing order was randomly selected. Results: Functional insole significantly increased the forefoot and midfoot (medial, lateral) (p<0.05), while total foot, forefoot, and rearfoot peak pressure significantly decreased (p < 0.05) compared to the general insole. Conclusion: In the functional insole, a high contact area was measured inside, even in the middle of the foot, leading to a proper change in foot pressure. It was confirmed that the contact area was reduced and dispersion occurred well. In addition, it was found that the maximum pressure in the front and back of the entire foot was reduced, so the weight pressure dispersion in the functional insole was evenly distributed, and the maximum average pressure change was similar.

Model soil tank tests were conducted in sandy soil to investigate the effect of surcharge strip loads on vertical stress distribution in soil. A total number of 6 tests were performed using one loading plate and two relative density(55%, 65%). The soil was considered as an elastic material, while no friction was allowed between the wall and the soil. Measured stress values were compared to predictions defined by Frohlich, Boussinesq and Westergaard. The comparison of measured values and predictions used the ratio between the soil pressure and load value. Results of this study demonstrated that experimental values were generally larger than predictions. The Frohlich analysis provided the best prediction, while the Boussinesq analysis and Westergaard theory not presented a satisfactional result.
