Hydraulic power steering system has been adopted in seniority passenger and commercial vehicle system for an easy maneuverability and a smoother ride. In this study, hydraulic power steering system analysis model which includes hydraulics and mechanical sub-systems was developed using commercial software, AMESim in order to predict characteristics for various steering components. Each component which constructs system was modeled and verified by experimentally obtained characteristics curves of each components. The parameter sensitivity analysis such as valve opening area, torsional stiffness of torsion bar for system design are carried out by the analysis and experimental method. The predicted results by the development model were a good agreement with experimentally obtained results. The sensitivity investigation results rotary torque when changing an input shaft edge width, was most sensitive, to change in angle and slot width and supply flow of input shaft edge is not a lot sensitively.
A computing procedure is presented to predict the ultimate behavior of prestressed beams under torsion. This computing procedure is based on an extension of the Variable Angle Truss-Model (VATM) to cover both longitudinal and transversal prestressed beams. Several constitutive relationships are tested to model the behavior of the concrete in compression in the struts and the behavior of the reinforcement in tension (both ordinary and prestress). The theoretical predictions of the maximum torque and corresponding twist are compared with some results from reported tests and with the predictions obtained from some codes of practice. One of the tested combinations of the relationships for the materials was found to give simultaneously the best predictions for the resistance torque and the corresponding twist of prestressed beams under torsion. When compared with the predictions from some codes of practice, the theoretical model which incorporates the referred combination of the relationships provides best values for the torsional strength and leads to more optimized designs.
The demand for skyscrapers is increasing worldwide. Until now, various lateral resistance structures have been used for lateral displacement control of high-rise buildings. An outrigger damper system has been introduced recently to improve lateral dynamic response control performance further. However, a study of outrigger damper system is yet to be sufficiently investigated. In this study, time history analysis was performed to investigate the control performance of an outrigger damper system of high-rise building under eccentric loading. To do this, an actual scale 3-dimensional tall building model with an outrigger damper system was prepared. The control performance of the outrigger damper system was evaluated by varying stiffness and damping values. On the top floor torsional angle response to the earthquake load, was greatly affected by damping value. And the displacement response was affected greatly by the stiffness value and damping value of damper system. In conclusion, it is necessary to select the proper damping and stiffness values of the outrigger damper system.
Recently, carbon fiber-reinforced composite is widely used in many aerospace applications. Among most of the aerospace vehicles, human-powered aircraft essentially uses it for minimizing the weight of the vehicle and gaining high stiffness to increase its efficiency. In this paper, main wing spar of the human-powered aircraft is investigated. Finite element models were created based on the baseline model built in 2013 to make analysis of cross-section of the spar with varying ply angles of each layer of the spar. Objective function, which is affected from bending rigidity, torsional rigidity, and strength ratio, was evaluated for every cases. The model of 2013 and present cases were put into comparison by values evaluated from objective function. From the comparison, it was concluded that there are more chances to improve the baseline model to make the vehicle better in stiffness and weight than the model of 2013.
We present results of molecular dynamic (MD) simulations for the thermodynamic and structural properties of liquid n-alkanes, from n-butane to n-heptadecane, using three different models Ⅰ-Ⅲ. Two of the three classes of models are collapsed atomic models while the third class is an atomistically detailed model. Model Ⅰ is the original Ryckaert and Bellemans' collapsed atomic model [Discuss. Faraday Soc. 1978, 66, 95] and model Ⅱ is the expanded collapsed model which includes C-C bond stretching and C-C-C bond angle bending potentials in addition to Lennard-Jones and torsional potentials of model Ⅰ. In model Ⅲ all the carbon and hydrogen atoms in the monomeric units are represented explicitly for the alkane molecules. Excellent agreement of the results of our MD simulations of model Ⅰ for n-butane with those of Edberg et al.[J. Chem. Phys. 1986, 84, 6933], who used a different algorithm confirms the validity of our algorithms for MD simulations of model Ⅱ for 14 liquid n-alkanes and of models Ⅰ and Ⅲ for liquid n-butane, n-decane, and n-heptadecane. The thermodynamic and structural properties of models Ⅰ and Ⅱ are very similar to each other and the thermodynamic properties of model Ⅲ for the three n-alkanes are not much different from those of models Ⅰ and Ⅱ. However, the structural properties of model Ⅲ are very different from those of models Ⅰ and Ⅱ as observed by comparing the radial distribution functions, the average end-to-end distances and the root-mean-squared radii of gyrations.
In the present paper, we report a molecular dynamics (MD) simulation of non-rigid zeolite-A framework only as the base case for a consistent study of the role of intraframework interaction on several zeolite-A systems using the same technique in our previous studies of rigid zeolite-A frameworks. Usual bond stretching, bond angle bending, torsional rotational, and non-bonded Lennard-Jones and electrostatic interactions are considered as intraframework interaction potentials. The comparison of experimental and calculated structural parameters confirms the validity of our MD simulation for zeolite-A framework. The radial distribution functions of non-rigid zeolite-A framework atoms characterize the vibrational motion of the framework atoms. Mean square displacements are all periodic with a short period of 0.08 ps and a slow change in the amplitude of the vibration with a long period of 0.53 ps. The displacement auto-correlation (DAC) and neighbor-correlation (DNC) functions describe the up-and-down motion of the framework atoms from the center of α-cage and the back-and-forth motion on each ring window from the center of each window. The DAC and DNC functions of the framework atoms from the center of α-cage at the 8-ring windows have the same period of the up-and-down motion, but those functions from the center of 8-ring window at the 8-ring windows are of different periods of the back-and-forth motion.
Interference effects in five square tall buildings arranged in an L- or T-shaped pattern are investigated in the wind tunnel. Mean and fluctuating shear forces, overturning moments and torsional moment are measured on each building with a force balance mounted at its base. Results are obtained at two values of clear separation between adjacent buildings, at half and a quarter building breadth. It is found that strong interference effect exists on all member buildings, resulting in significant modifications of wind loads as compared with the isolated single building case. Sheltering effect is observed on wind loads acting along the direction of an arm of the "L" or "T" on the inner buildings. However, increase in these wind loads from the isolated single building case is found on the most upwind edge building in the arm when wind blows at a slight oblique angle to the arm. The corner formed by two arms of buildings results in some wind catchment effect leading to increased wind pressure on windward building faces. Interesting interference phenomena such as negative drag force are reported. Interference effects on wind load fluctuations, load spectra and dynamic building responses are also studied and discussed.

This study investigated the structural behaviors and safety of an electro-mechanical linear actuator and a load simulator with a plate spring. The material and dimensions of the plate spring were determined by theoretically calculating the stress and torsional angle for the rating load of the actuator. Thereafter, a flexible multibody dynamics (FMBD) analysis was conducted on the linear actuator and load simulator to confirm the performance of the load simulator and acquire the reaction forces acting on the actuator and simulator. The structural safety of the linear actuator and load simulator was evaluated via finite element analysis using the aforementioned reaction forces. Consequently, the proposed linear actuator and load simulator were determined to be structurally safe; however, the safety factors for the actuation rod and the housing on the actuator were excessively high. Therefore, the weight and cost must be reduced to improve their design parameters in the future.
The performance of an isolated horizontally curved continuous bridge with High Damping Rubber (HDR) Bearings has been investigated under seismic loading conditions. The effectiveness of response controls of the bridge by HDR bearings for various aspects viz. variation in ground motion characteristics, multi-directional effect, level of earthquake shaking, varying incidence angle, have been determined. Three recorded ground motions, representative of historical earthquakes along with near-field, far-field and forward directivity effects, have been considered in the study. The efficacy of the bearings with bidirectional effect considering interaction behavior of bearing and pier has also been investigated. Modeling and analysis of the bridge have been done by finite element approach. Sensitivity studies of the bridge response with respect to design parameters of the bearings for the considered ground motions have been performed. The importance of the nonlinearity of HDR bearings along with crucial design parameters has been identified. It has been observed that the HDR bearings performed well in different variations of ground motions, especially for controlling torsional moment. However, the deck displacement has been found to be increased significantly in case of Turkey ground motions, considering forward directivity effect, which needs to be paid more attention from designer point of view.

In this study free vibration analysis of a cracked Goland composite wing is investigated. The wing is modelled as a cantilevered beam based on Euler- Bernoulli equations. Also, composite material is modelled based on lamina fiber-reinforced. Edge crack is modelled by additional boundary conditions and local flexibility matrix in crack location, Castigliano's theorem and energy release rate formulation. Governing differential equations are extracted by Hamilton's principle. Using the separation of variables method, general solution in the normalized form for bending and torsion deflection is achieved then expressions for the cross-sectional rotation, the bending moment, the shear force and the torsional moment for the cantilevered beam are obtained. The cracked beam is modelled by separation of beam into two interconnected intact beams. Free vibration analysis of the beam is performed by applying boundary conditions at the fixed end, the free end, continuity conditions in the crack location of the beam and dynamic stiffness matrix determinant. Also, the effects of various parameters such as length and location of crack and fiber angle on natural frequencies and mode shapes are studied. Modal analysis results illustrate that natural frequencies and mode shapes are affected by depth and location of edge crack and coupling parameter.
