Conventional automatic transmission system includes a hydrodynamic torque converter to transfer engine torque from an engine crank shaft to a rotatable input members, which are of complex design permitting them to serve several functions. These are clutches or brakes which couple the rotatable input member to member of a planetary gear set. The annulus gear for an automatic transmission is a monolithic gear having a set of gear teeth formed on an inner surface which is coupling with a set of planetary gear. In this study, the flow forming method is applied to the manufacturing of the annulus gear. This cold forming is proper method in order to manufacture dimensionally precise and round hollow components such as annulus gear. By pre-calculated amount of wall thickness reduction, the seamless tube of SAE1026 is compressed above its yield strength, plastically deformed and made to flow in several roll passes. According to this study, the desired geometry of the annulus gear can be achieved when the outer diameter and the thickness of the tube are properly decreased by compressed roll passes and the available material volume is easily forced to flow longitudinally over the shape of mandrel.
Power system stabilizer act efficiently to damp the electromechanical oscillations in interconnected power systems. This paper presents an algorithm for the optimal parameter selection of a power system stabilizer in two-area power systems with a series HVDC link. This method is one of the classical techniques by allocating properly pole-zero positions to fit as closely as desired the ideal phase lead between the voltage reference and the generator electrical power and by changing the gain to produce a necessary damping torque over the matched frequency range. Control of HVDC converter and inverter are used a constant current loop. Proper parameters of PI controllers are obtain based on the Root-locus technique in other to have sufficient speed and stability margin to cope with charging reference values and disturbance. The small signal stability arid transient stability studies using the PSS parameters obtained from this method show that a natural oscillation frequency of the studycase system is adequately damped. Also the simulation results using the HVDC converter and inverter parameters obtained from this proposed method show proper current control characteristics. The simulation used in the paper was performed by the Power System Toolbox software program based on MATLAB.
Advanced control algorithms must be used to make wind power generation truly cost effective and reliable. In this study, we develop a new and simple control scheme that employs model predictive control (MPC), which is used in permanent magnet synchronous generators and grid-connected inverters. The proposed control law is based on two points, namely, MPC-based torque-current control loop is used for the generator-side converter to reach the maximum power point of the wind turbine, and MPC-based direct power control loop is used for the grid-side converter to satisfy the grid code and help improve system stability. Moreover, a simple prediction scheme is developed for the direct-drive wind energy conversion system (WECS) to reduce the computation burden for real-time applications. A small-scale WECS laboratory prototype is built and evaluated to verify the validity of the developed control methods. Acceptable results are obtained from the real-time implementation of the proposed MPC methods for WECS.
This paper introduces the propulsion system for Korean High Speed Railway(HSR). The developed propulsion system consists of PWM AC/DC converter and inverter. Compared with TGV-K, converters can improve input harmonics characteristics by the interlaced PW switching methods. And several merits such as unity power factor and simple regenerative operations can be also made. As a main power component, IGCT stack with suitable structure for high speed train and environmentally friendly cooling heat pipe is designed. In this paper, overall configuration of controller and control scheme is briefly described. Finally running tests are made to verify the developed propulsion system. The presented test results shows fast torque response, balanced converter current sharing, and appropriate running sequence.
This paper proposes a fault diagnosis method for an open-fault in inverter driving five-phase induction motor. The five-phase induction motor has a high output torque and small torque ripple in comparison to three-phase. The best advantage of the five-phase induction motor is fault diagnosis and tolerant control using redundancy of phases. This paper uses an inverter as a power converter for driving a five-phase induction motor. If a switch of inverter occurs to the open-fault, this problem is the influence on the output current and output torque. To solve this problem, there is need of an accurate diagnosis and fault switch distinction. Therefore, this paper propose a fault detection method of the open-fault switches for the fault diagnosis. First, analyzing the pattern for the open-circuit fault of one phase. next, analyzing the pattern for the open-circuit fault of each inverter switches. Through the pattern analysis, It defines the scope of each of the failure switch. Thereafter, By using an algorithm that proposes to perform a fault diagnosis method. The proposed algorithm is verified from the experiment with the 1.5 kW five-phase induction motor.

We have developed the novel device that can extract energy from ocean waves utilizing the heaving motion of a floating mass. The major components of the energy converter are: a floater, a counterweight, a cable, a driving pulley, two idler pulleys, a ratchet, and a generator. The device generates power through the tension force in the cable and the weight difference between the floater and the counterweight. When the system is at static free condition, the tension in the cable is equal to the weight of the counterweight which is minimum. Therefore it is desirable to keep the counterweight lighter than the floater. However, experiments show that during the rise of the water level, the torque generated by weight of the counterweight is insufficient to rotate the driving pulley which causes the cable on the floater side to slack. The proposed application of the tension pulley rectifies these problems by preventing the cable from becoming slack when the water level rises. In this paper, the dynamics model is modified to incorporate the dynamics of the tension pulley. This has been achieved by first writing the dynamical equations for the tension pulley and the energy converter separately and combining them later. This paper investigates numerically the effect of the tension pulley on various physical quantities such as the cable tension, the floater displacement, and the floater velocity. Results obtained indicate that this application is successful in suppressing large fluctuations of the cable tension.
In general, jerk phenomenon appeared because of gear changing, when a vehicle starts off or climbs an incline. Therefore, it makes ride quality worse. In this paper, an optimal pattern of automatic transmission was designed using fuzzy logic in order to improve ride quality. After del eloping fuzzy rule for shift pattern control of automatic transmission, dynamic characteristics (i.e. acceleration, velocity, distance and so on) were simulated using dynamic model of a car. To do this he powertrain model of a vehicle with automatic transmission including torque converter, gear box, and final gear drive - from engine to tire - is developed.
