  • This paper presents the new MR rotary brake with a permanent magnet, based on the shear operating mode. Due to the permanent magnet, the MR rotary brake can give the nominal resistance to the external disturbance and give the fail safe capacity to the system even when the power supply is accidentally cut off. As we apply the positive or negative current to the electric magnet coil, the resistance torque of the MR rotary brake can be reduced to the value less than the nominal resistance or increased up to the magnetic saturation point.

  • In this paper a simple theory is presented to represent characteristic of a SRM and theoretical results are compared with experimental ones. In the theory the inductance variation of a SRM are approximated as linear and winding resistance and the magnetic saturation are ignored. With these approximations we derived some equations expressing load characteristics of a SRM Also the torque ripple was removed by applying a variable hysteresis band control.

  • A modeling of the dynamics of two cooperating robot manipulators doing assembly job such as peg-in-hole while coordinating the payload along the desired path is proposed. The system is uncertain due to the unknown mass and moment of inertia of the manipulators and the payload. To control the system, a robust control algorithm is proposed. The control algorithm includes fuzzylogic. By the fuzzy logic, the magnitude of the input torque of the manipulators is controlled not to go over the hardware saturation with keeping path tracking errors bounded.

  • In this study, we have dealt with a design characteristic of outer-rotor type permanent magnet (PM) motor applied for Engine Cooling Fan (ECF). When we design a motor with structure like this type, it is required as a requisite to consider 3-Dimensional (3-D) effect by implementing a non-linear Finite Element Analysis (FEA) due to a yoke-ceiling, which is perpendicular to the axis of rotation. We have analyzed identical models under three different conditions. The analysis has been performed through a non-linear 2-Dimensional (2-D) and 3-D FEA. Finally, the results have been compared with Back Electro-Motive Force (BEMF) value of actual motor model. As a result, a yoke-ceiling function as an additional flux path and the operating point on B-H curve of rotor material is shifted to non-saturation region relatively. Accordingly, magnetic flux linkage can be increased and motor size can be decreased under same input condition to satisfy ECF specification, such as torque.

  • Newly proposed RG-MADS (Randomly Guided Mesh Adaptive Direct Search) has been applied to the optimal design of Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (IPMSM) which has the distinctive features of magnetic saturation. RG-MADS, advanced from classical MADS algorithm, has the superiority in computational time and reliable convergence accuracy to the optimal solution, thus it is appropriate to the optimal design of IPMSM coupled with time-consuming Finite Element Analysis (FEA), necessary to the nonlinear magnetic application for better accuracy. Effectiveness of RG-MADS has been verified through the well-known benchmark-functions beforehand. In addition, the proposed RG-MADS has been applied to the optimal design of IPMSM aiming at maximizing the Maximum Torque Per Ampere (MTPA), which is regarded as representative design goal of IPMSM.

인공위성 자세제어용 Magnetic Torquer 개발 (Development of Magnetic Torquer for Satellite Attitude Control)

  • Magnetic torquer하는 인공위성의 초기 자세제어에 사용 되는 부품으로 지구자기장하에서 자기 쌍극자 모멘트가 받는 비틀림력을 이용하여 인공위성의 회전을 방지하고 특정 방향으로 인공위성의 자세가 안정되게 한다. 본 연구에서 개발 한 magnetic torque는 소형위성에 사용되는 것으로, magnetic torque거 자기적 특성뿐만 아니라 위성 발사 시 및 인공위성 궤도에서의 환경에서도 그 특성이 보장될 수 있게 환경시험을 하였다. 개발한 magnetic torquer는 포화 자기 쌍극자 모멘트가 $15Am^2$, 선형도 특성을 보이는 구간이 ${\pm}12Am^2$이고 선형도가 0.3% 미만이면서 질량이 0.46 kg이고 소비전력이 자기 쌍극자 모멘트가 $10Am^2$에 1 Watt 이였다.

  • 본 논문에서는 페라이트자석을 사용하고 있는 BLDC 전동기를 희토류 자석을 사용하는 전동기로의 설계를 다루고 있다. 최근 전기기기가 소형 경량화 됨에 따라 자석 성능이 우수한 희토류 자석을 이용한 전동기가 많이 사용되고 있다. 그러나 전기제품 메이커들은 기존의 설계를 유지하려는 경향이 있다. 본 연구에서는 전기기기에 취부되는 전동기의 외형을 그대로 하고 내부의 설계만 희토류 자석으로 변경하는 설계를 한다. 설계를 간단히 하기 위해 유한 요소법의 상용 패키지를 반복적으로 사용하였고 코깅 토오크를 줄이기 위해 고정자 요크와 고정자 단의 그루브를 설계하였다.

Analysis and Comparison of a Permanent-Magnet DC Motor with a Field-Winding DC Motor

  • The influence of magnetic saturation on electromagnetic field distribution in both a permanent-magnet direct-current (PMDC) motor and a field-winding (wound-field) direct-current (FWDC) motor, with the same output mechanical power, has been studied. In this paper, an approximate analytical method and time-stepping Finite Element Method (FEM) are used for prediction of Back-EMF and electromagnetic torque. No-load and rotor-lucked conditions, according to experimental measurements, and the FEM and analytical method studies of the motors have been considered. A sensitivity analysis has also been successfully accomplished on the major design parameters that affect motor performance. At last, these two DC motors are compared, in spite of their differences, on the basis of measured output characteristics.

  • The cycloconverter operating on a circulating current-free mode has many zero crossing points. If an exact zero crossing points are not detected, the three phase-unbalanced currents will flow in a motor. In this paper, the current feedback using a current reference wave is proposed to improve the problems of zero crossing detection, three phase-unbalanced voltages, currents, and torgue ripples. To prevent the saturation of the air gap flux and keep the torque constant, the constant voltage / hertz control with IR compensation is adopted. The PI-controller is designed using the linearized model of the cycloconverterinduction motor system. Alsi, Z-80A single board computer has been used to implement the proposed scheme which results in the performance improvement of cycloconterter-fed induction motor speed control system.

  • A SRM develops its torque according to the inductance variation as the rotor position and the phase current. The variation of the inductance and the phase current plays an important role in output characteristics. Predicting and calculating the inductance is invaluable in the study of SRM. This paper suggests the estimation method of inductance as variation of phase current and rotor position considering magnetic saturation of motor core. This method is also applied to full-pitched winding SRM.
