Most steep slope failures tend to take place in geographically unstable areas. Mt. Baekdusan is known as a potentially active volcano in a typical mountainous terrain. This study prepared a digital elevation model of Mt. Baekdusan area and created a hazard map based on topographical factors and structural lineament analysis. Factors used in vulnerability analysis included geographical data involving aspect and slope distribution, as well as contributory area of upslope, tangential gradient curvature, profile gradient curvature, and the distribution of wetness index among the elements that comprise topography. In addition, the stability analysis was conducted based on the lineament intensity map. Concerning the disaster vulnerability of Mt. Baekdusan region, the south and south west area of Mt. Baekdusan has a highest risk of disaster (grade 4-5) while the risk level decreases in the north eastern region.
Aeromagnetic and gravity data were analyzed to delineate the subsurface structure of the Yeongdong basin and its related fault movement in the Okcheon fold belt. The aeromagnetic data of the total intensity (KIGAM, 1983) were reduced to the pole and three dimensional inverse modeling, which considers topography of the survey area in the modeling process, were carried out. The apparent susceptibility map obtained by three dimensional magnetic inversion, as well as the observed aeromagnetic anomaly itself, show clearly the gross structural trend of the Yeongdong basin in the direction on between $N30^{\circ}E$ and $N45^{\circ}E$. Gravity survey was carried out along the profile, of which the length is about 18.2 km across the basin. Maximum relative Bouguer anomaly is about 7 mgals. Both forward and inverse modeling were also carried out for gravity analysis. The magnetic and gravity results show that the Yeongdong basin is developed by the force which had created the NE-SW trending the magnetic anomalies. The susceptibility contrast around Yeongdong fault is apparent, and the southeastern boundary of the basin is clearly defined. The basement depth of the basin appears to be about 1.1 km beneath the sea level, and the width of the basin is estimated to be 7 km based on the simultaneous analysis of gravity and magnetic profiles. There exists an unconformity between the sedimentary rocks and the gneiss at the southeastern boundary, which is the Yeongdong fault, and granodiorite is intruded at the northwestern boundary of the basin. Our results of gravity and magnetic data analysis support that the Yeongdong basin is a pull-apart basin formed by the left-stepping sinistral strike-slip fault, which formed the Okcheon fold belt.
PURPOSE. The purpose of this study was to compare removal torques and surface topography between laser treated and sandblasted, large-grit, acid-etched (SLA) treated implants. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Laser-treated implants (experimental group) and SLA-treated implants (control group) 8 mm in length and 3.4 mm in diameter were inserted into both sides of the tibiae of 12 rabbits. Surface analysis was accomplished using a field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM; Hitachi S-4800; Japan) under ${\times}25$, ${\times}150$ and ${\times}1,000$ magnification. Surface components were analyzed using energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). Rabbits were sacrificed after a 6-week healing period. The removal torque was measured using the MGT-12 digital torque meter (Mark-10 Co., Copiague, NY, USA). RESULTS. In the experimental group, the surface analysis showed uniform porous structures under ${\times}25$, ${\times}150$ and ${\times}1,000$ magnification. Pore sizes in the experimental group were 20-40 mm and consisted of numerous small pores, whereas pore sizes in the control group were 0.5-2.0 mm. EDS analysis showed no significant difference between the two groups. The mean removal torque in the laser-treated and the SLA-treated implant groups were 79.4 Ncm (SD = 20.4; range 34.6-104.3 Ncm) and 52.7 Ncm (SD = 17.2; range 18.7-73.8 Ncm), respectively. The removal torque in the laser-treated surface implant group was significantly higher than that in the control group (P=.004). CONCLUSION. In this study, removal torque values were significantly higher for laser-treated surface implants than for SLA-treated surface implants.
Purpose. This study was to investigate the analysis of the central corneal thickness and anterior chamber depth of eyes in Korean Young Population using the Pentacam topography. Methods. The subjects consisted of 126 eyes from normal cornea of Korean aged 7-12($8.857{\pm}1.501$) years during 2009. The thinnest location, pachy apex, and pupil central region of the cornea thickness was measured using the Pentacam pachymetry. The anterior chamber depth of normal corneas was measured with Pentacam. Results. The thinnest location of corneal thickness was $547.413{\pm}37.893$um. The pachy apex of cornea thickness was $552.103{\pm}36.016$um. Also, the pupil center of corneal thickness was measured $552.143{\pm}36.418$um. On the other hand, the mean thickness in the central cornea was a statically significant relationship(t-test, p=0.0002) between pachy apex and thinnest zone. Also the mean thickness of the central cornea was a statically significant correlation(pearson p=0.0001) among the pupil center, pachy apex and thinnest zone. The anterior chamber depth was $3.137{\pm}0.308$mm. The mean depth in the anterior chamber of cornea was a statically relationship(t-test, p>0.05) between OD and OS. Conclusions. The results of this clinical study suggested that the analysis of the central corneal thickness and anterior chamber depth using Pentacam in Korean young population can provide the useful morphological information in diagnosis of cornea for the contact lens fitting and corneal refraction surgery.
This study examines the hydraulic characteristics, the channel changes, the behavior of bars, and bank stability by means of laboratory experiments. Three sets of laboratory experiments are conducted to elucidate the influence of riparian vegetation of the channels with erodible banks. Flow velocity is decreased in the vegetated zone, the mobility of lower channels is decreased. The double Fourier analysis of the bed waves shows that 1-1 mode (alternate bar) is dominant at the initial stage of the channel development. As time increases, 2-2 and 2-3 modes (central or multiple bars) are dominant due to the increased width to depth ratio. As the vegetation density is increased, the number of bars are increased, bank stability increases. The variation of sediment discharges is affected by vegetation density. The braided intensity is decreased with vegetation density. As the vegetation density is increased, the correlation coefficient of bed topography and bed relief index is increased.

In this research estimated accuracies that were results in all the area of filtering of the plane equation that was used by whole data set, and regional of filtering that was driven by the plane equation for each vertual Grid. All of this estimates were based by all the area of filtering that deduced the plane equation by multiple linear regression analysis that was used by ground data set. Therefore, accuracy of all the area of filtering that used whole data set has been dropped about 2~3% when average of accuracy of all the area of filtering was based on ground data set while accuracy of Regional of filtering dropped 2~4% when based on virtual Grid. Moreover, as virtual Grid which was set 3~4 cm was difference about 2% of accuracy from standard data. Thus, it leads conclusion of set 3~4 times bigger size in virtual Grid filtering over LiDAR scan gap will be more appropriated. Hence, the result of this research allow us to conclude that there was difference in average accuracy has been noticed when we applied each different approaches, I strongly suggest that it need to research more about real topography for further filtering accuracy.
This study aimed at verifying the grain-sized distribution of surface deposits in a tidal flat using multi-spectral Landsat TM. In this study, we employed the grain-sized analysis, PCA and unsupervised classification techniques for analyzing the distribution of deposits. As a result in this study, the unsupervised classification method using PCA image was found to be most useful in classifying tidal flat deposits using satellite data. This method is considerably effective in analyzing not only the aspects of distribution in terms of accumulated deposits and erosion, but also the changes in seaside topography and shoreline. The grain-sized distribution analysis indicates that the mud flat inside the Cheonsu-bay tidal flat is distributed, the mixed flat located in the middle, and the sand flat distributed near the sea. The sand flat is dominant around the southern part of Seomot isle and its beach. On the other hand, the mud and mixed flat is dominant on the western part. Likewise, the western coast of Seomot isle and its beach is significantly affected by waves facing the offshore. However, the eastern side of the bay could be a site for the evolution of tidal flat made of fine materials where it is less affected by ocean waves. These results show that multi-spectral satellite data are effective for the classification of distribution materials and environmental impact assessment and continuous monitoring. In particular, the research on environmental deposits can provide important decision-supporting information for decision-making on seaside development, by analyzing the progress of deposits and environmental changes.

The objectives of this study are to analyze the quantitative ecological principal components of Korean Peninsula using the multivariate spatial environmental datasets and to compare the ecological difference between South and North Korea. Ecological maps with GIS(Geographical Information System) are constructed by PCA(Principal Component Analysis) based on seventeen raster(cell based) variables at 1km resolution. Ecological differences between South and North Korea are extracted by Factor Analysis using ecosystem maps masked from Korean ones. Spatial data include SRTM(Shuttle Radar Topography Mission), Temperature, Precipitation, SWC(Soil Water Content), fPAR(Fraction of Photosynthetically Active Radiation) representing for a productivity, and SR(Solar Radiation), which all cover Korean peninsula. When it performed PCA, the first three scores were assigned to red, green, and blue color. This color triplet indicates the relative mixture of the seventeen environmental conditions inside each ecological region. The first red one represents for 'physiographic conditions' worked by high elevation and solar radiation and low temperature. The second green one stands for 'seasonality' caused by seasonal variations of temperature, precipitation, and productivity. The third blue one means 'wetness condition' worked by high value such as precipitation and soil water contents. FA extraction shows that South Korea has relatively warm and humid ecosystem affected by high temperature, precipitation, and soil water contents whereas North Korea has relatively cold and dry ecosystem due to the high elevation, low temperature and precipitation. Results would be useful at environmental planning on inaccessible land of North Korea.
The purpose of this study is to determine the weights of the factors for landslide susceptibility analysis using artificial neural network. Landslide locations were identified from interpretation of aerial photographs, field survey data, and topography. The landslide-related factors such as topographic slope, topographic curvature, soil drainage, soil effective thickness, soil texture, wood age and wood diameter were extracted from the spatial database in study area, Yongin. Using these factors, the weights of neural networks were calculated by backpropagation training algorithm and were used to determine the weight of landslide factors. Therefore, by interpreting the weights after training, the weight of each landslide factor can be ranked based on its contribution to the classification. The highest weight is topographic slope that is 5.33 and topographic curvature and soil texture are 1 and 1.17, respectively. Weight determination using backprogpagation algorithms can be used for overlay analysis of GIS so the factor that have low weight can be excluded in future analysis to save computation time.

The purpose of this study is to develop landslide susceptibility analysis techniques using artificial neural networks and to apply the newly developed techniques for assessment of landslide susceptibility to the study area of Yongin in Korea. Landslide locations were identified in the study area from interpretation of aerial Photographs and field survey data, and a spatial database of the topography, soil type and timber cover were constructed. The landslide-related factors such as topographic slope, topographic curvature, soil texture, soil drainage, soil effective thickness, timber age, and timber diameter were extracted from the spatial database. Using those factors, landslide susceptibility and weights of each factor were analyzed by two artificial neural network methods. In the first method, the landslide susceptibility index was calculated by the back propagation method, which is a type of artificial neural network method. Then, the susceptibility map was made with a GIS program. The results of the landslide susceptibility analysis were verified using landslide location data. The verification results show satisfactory agreement between the susceptibility index and existing landslide location data. In the second method, weights of each factor were determinated. The weights, relative importance of each factor, were calculated using importance-free characteristics method of artificial neural networks.
