High speed machining (HSM) can reduce machining time with the high metal removal rate by high speed spindle and feedrate. This paper supports HSM technology using the small size tool with the optimal tool path generation and modification of tool change. The optimum tool path is generated to reduce cutting length of cavity pattern and change the cutting tool for preventing the tool breakage by wear. The tool path is modified with the experiment data of tool wear and breakage to support tool change on reasonable time. The result can contribute to HSM technology of high hardness materials using the small size end-mill.
TiAIN was deposited onto ISO P2O Cutting Insert Tip substrate by FVAS at the substrate temperature of 80$^{\circ}C$. Cutting and wear test have been performed with TiAIN coated and uncoated WC cutting tools, respectively. Uncoated WC cutting tool has been tested under similar cutting condition for comparison. Cutting force and tool wear of coated and uncoated carbide cutting tools were investigated by cutting length. In cutting test, cutting force of the coated insert tip was larger than the uncoated insert tip by tool wear. Configuration and wear of the coated tool were more stable and resistant than the uncoated. In tool life by the tool wear, the coated cutting tool life was rather longer than the uncoated when tested at high speed (V=250 m/min) than low speed (V=200 m/min), Cutting force, tool wear and life were analysised by tool dynamometer amp(3ch) and oscilloscope.
The material removal mechanism in machining is significantly affected by the cutting edge geometry. Its effect becomes even more substantial when the depth of cut is relatively small as compared to the characteristic length which represents the shape and size of the cutting edge. Conventionally, radius or focal length has been employed as the characteristic length with the assumption that the shape of cutting edge is round or parabolic. However, in reality, there could be various ways to determine the radius or focal length even for the same tool edge profile, depending on the region to be considered as cutting edge in the measured profile and the constraints to be set in constructing the best fitted circle or parabola. In this regard, the present study proposes various models to determine the characteristic length in terms of radius or focal length. Their physical compatibility are validated by carrying out 2D orthogonal cutting experiments using inserts with a wide range of characteristic length ($30{\sim}180\;{\mu}m$ in terms of radius) and then by investigating the correlation between the characteristic length and the cutting forces. Such validation is based on the common belief that the larger the characteristic length is, the blunter the cutting edge is and the higher the cutting forces are. Interestingly, the results showed that the correlation is higher for the radius or focal length obtained with a constraint that the center of best fitted circle or the focus of the best fitted parabola should be on the bisectional line of the wedge angle of tool.

The properties and weldability of lap joints by PFSW with 1050 Al sheet was investigated according to tool shape. dimension and welding condition. Tensile shear test was carried out for lap jointed specimen, and the hardness in the joint regions was examined. Moreover interfacial joining length, metallograph and failure location of the lap-jointed cross section were discussed. Two tool types were a simple cylindrical type and a notched cylindrical type. Under joining conditions such as plunging depth of 2.2mm. rotating speed of 1600rpm and dwelling time of 3s, the tensile shear strength of lap-jointed specimen by the notched type tool was superior to that by simple cylindrical type tool. The maximum tensile shear load of lap jointed specimen was 5807N. Optimal dimensions of the notched type tool were as follows : diameters of the shoulder and pin were $18{\phi}mm$ and $10{\phi}mm$, and pin length was 2.2mm.
In this study, area-weighted slope and slope length module, considering measured field slope and slope length of the agricultural fields within the subwatershed, was developed using the ArcView Avenue programming to reflect the field topography of the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) HRU in simulating the hydrology and water quality. Flow and sediment yield estimated values of the SWAT were compared with and without applying area-weighted slope and slope length module, developed in this study. There was 103% increases in estimated sediment with area-weighted slope and slope length module for the study watershed. The soil erosion and sediment yield from only agricultural field in Hae-an watershed was also assessed. There are 111% increase in estimated soil erosion and 112% increase in estimated sediment by applying area-weighted slope and slope length module. This study shows that the area-weighted slope and slope length module needs to be utilized in estimating the HRU field slope and slope length for accurate estimation of soil erosion and nonponit source pollutant modeling with the SWAT although it is not feasible to measure topographic information for every agricultural fields within the watershed. The area-weighted slope and slope length module can be used in identifying soil erosion hot spot areas for developing cost effective and efficient soil erosion management practices.
High speed machining is a key issue in die and mold manufacturing recently. Even though this technology has great potential of high productivity. tool wear accelerated by high cutting speed to the hardened materials is other barrier. In this research, we attempted to reduce tool wear by considering tool inclination angle between tool and workpiece. The boundary lines describing machined sculptured surfaces were represented by both of cutting envelop condition and the geometric relationship of successive tool paths. Chip cross section, and cutting length could be obtained from the calculated cutting edge and the rotational engagement angle. From the simulation results, machining inclination angle of tool of $15^\circ$ was good enough from the point of tool wear and cutting force, and this value was verified through the cutting experiment of high speed ball end milling.
The finite element method is applied to analyze the mechanism of metal cutting, especially micro metal cutting. This paper introduces some effects, such as constitutive deformation laws of workpiece material, friction of tool-chip contact interfaces, tool rake angle and also simulate the cutting process, chip formation and geometry, tool-chip contact, reaction force of tool. Under the usual plane strain assumption, quasi-static analysis were performed with variation of tool-chip interface friction coefficients and tool rake angles. In this analysis, cutting speed, cutting depth set to 8m/sec, 0.02mm, respectively. Some cutting parameters are affected to cutting force, plastic deformation of chip, shear plane angle, chip thickness and tool-chip contact length and reaction forces on tool. Several aspects of the metal cutting process predicted by the finite element analysis provide information about tool shape design and optimal cutting conditions.

Extrusion of forward-gear and backward-rod by combined extrusion with controlling the extrusion velocity using a counter tool is studied. In the combined forward-backward extrusion with controlling extrusion velocity, only parts with short gear can be formed. To obtain longer gear parts, extrusion with reverse ram motion is carried out after the combined forward-backward extrusion process. In this method, combined forward-backward extrusion is carried out until excessive extrusion length is attained and then, the motion of the punch is stopped and the counter tool is moved in the inverse direction and returned to the position for obtaining the desired extrusion length. The experiment is carried out by using lead for billets as a model material. With reverse ram motion, longer gear teeth without under-filling defect can be formed than that by only combined extrusion with controlling extrusion velocity.
This paper presents a new method of tool path optimization. A NC verification model based Z-map was utilized to obtain chip load in feed per tooth. This developed software can regenerate a NC program from cutting condition and the NC program that was generated in CAM. The regenerated NC program has not only all same data of the ex-NC program but also the new feed rates in every block. The new NC data can reduce the cutting time and manufacture precision dies with the same chip load in feed per tooth. This method can also prevent tool chipping and make constant tool wear. This paper considered the effects of acceleration and deceleration in feed rate change.
Stress state of chip formation zone is one of the main problems in metal cutting mechanics. In two-dimensional case this process is usually considered as consistent shears of work material along single of several shear surfaces. separating chip from workpiece. These shear planes are assumed to be trajectories of maximum shear stress forming corresponding slip-line field. This paper suggests new approach to the constriction of slip-line field, which Implies uniform compression in chip formation zone. On the base of given model it has been found that imaginary shear line in orthogonal cutting is close to the trajectory of maximum normal stress and the problem about its determination have been considered. It has been shown that there is a second central slip-line field inside chip, which corresponds well to experimental data about stress distribution on tool rake face and tool-chip contact length. The suggested model could be useful in solution of various problems of machining.
