소형 앵글 스핀들 공구의 절삭성능에 관한 연구 (Cutting Performance of a Developed Small-angle Spindle Tool)

  • The cutting performance of a developed small-angle spindle tool was investigated with Al6061 using a TiAlN coated high-speed steel end mill. Up-cut and down-cut processes in a milling machine were carried out at the range of 1000-4000 rpm for spindle speed and 50-300 mm/min for feed rate. As a result, the highest cutting force in the Fx direction was obtained from the up-cut process when the spindle speed was 1000 rpm and the feed rate was 100 mm/min. In the Fy direction, the highest cutting force appeared in the up-cut process at a feed rate of 250 mm/min at the same spindle speed. Conversely, the lowest cutting force came out in the up-cut process at a spindle speed of 4000 rpm and a feed rate of 50 mm/min. As for surface finish, the finest surface roughness was obtained as Ra 0.7642 um at a spindle speed of 4000 rpm and a feed rate of 50 mm/min. Consequently, given the cutting performance of the developed small-angle spindle tool, we conclude that its use in industrial practice is feasible.

  • In end milling process, the undeformed chip section area and cutting forces vary periodically with phase change of the tool. However, the real undeformed chip section area deviates from the geometrically ideal one owing to cutter runout and tool shape error. In this study, a method of estimating the real undeformed chip section area which reflects cutter runout and tool shape error was presented during up-end milling of Inconel 718 using measured cutting forces. The specific cutting resistance, K. and $K_t$ are defined as the radial and tangential cutting forces divided by the modified chip section area. Both of $K_r$, and $K_t$ values become smaller as the helix angle increases from $30^\circ$ to $40^\circ$ Whereas they become larder as the helix angle increases from $40^\circ$ to $50^\circ$. On the other hand, the $K_r$, and $K_t$ values show a tendency to decrease with increase of the modified chip section area and this tendency becomes distinct with smaller helix angle.

Contrary to the up-end milling the value of radial specific cutting resistance, $K_r$, becomes larger as the helix angle increases from $30^{\circ}$ to $40^{\circ}$ and it shows almost same value at $50^{\circ}$ The value of tangential specific cutting resistance, $K_t$ becomes larger as the helix angle increases same as in up-end milling, the $KK_r$, and $K_t$ values show a tendency to decrease with increase of the modified chip section area and this tendency is distinct with helix angle $40^{\circ}$.

  • In machining with cutting tool inserts having complex chip groove shape, the flow, curl and breaking patterns of the chip are different than in flat-face type inserts. In the present work, an effort is made to understand the three basic phenomena occurring in a chip since its formation in machining with groove type and pattern type inserts. These are the initial chip flow, the subsequent development of up and side curl and the final chip breaking due to the development of torsional and banding stresses. In this paper, chip flow angle in a groove type and pattern type inserts. The expression for chip flow angle in groove type and pattern type insets is also verified experimentally using high speed filming techniques.

초듀랄류민(A2024-T3)의 절삭거동에 관한 연구 (The Study on the Cutting Behavior of Super Duralumin(A2024-T3))

  • This study was undertaken to investigate the cutting behaviour of super duralumin (A2024-T3) with sintered carbide tool(P20). The cutting test was carried out under different conditions such as cutting speed, cutting depth and rake angle, etc. The specific cutting force Kc and Kt of vertical and radial forces decreases as cutting speed increases, especially the decrease rate of Kt becomes larger than of Kc as cutting speed increases. Kc and Kt in small cutting depth are much affected by work-hardening of surface layer. The chip width and shear angle become layer as cutting depth increases, especially chip width at feed of 0.1mm almost approaches cutting width. Relation between the friction coefficient of chip side and tool rake angle side can make the modelization studying the built-up edge size. The shear angle model equation of super duralumin generally agree with theory of Ernst-Merchant.

  • An efficient measurement and evaluation system for hand tool tasks will provide a practical solution to the problem of designing and evaluating manual tool tasks in the workplace. Few studies on the biomechanical analysis of hand postures and tool handling tasks exist because of the lack of appropriate measurement techniques for hand force. A measurement system for the finger forces and joint angles for analysis of manual tool handling tasks was developed in this study. The measurement system consists of a force sensing glove made from twelve Force Sensitive Resistors and an angle-measuring glove (Cyberglove$\^$TM/, Virtual technologies) with eighteen joint angle sensors. A biomechanical model of the hand using the data from the measurement system was also developed. Systems of computerized procedures were implemented integrating the hand posture measurement system, biomechanical analysis system, and the task analysis system for manual tool handling tasks. The measurement system was useful in providing the hand force data needed for an existing task analysis system used in CTD risk evaluation. It is expected that the hand posture measurement developed in this study will provide an, efficient and cost-effective solution to task analysis of manual tool handling tasks. These tasks are becoming increasingly important areas of occupational health and safety of the country.

  • In this study, Wear of a ceramic cutting tool for hardened STD11 steel was investigated. Under the finish machining condition. DOC notch wear of a ceramic cutting tool was mostly occurred earlier than flank and crater wear were proceeded. The relations of DOC notch wear, which was characteristically produced at the beginning of cutting. to cutting speed, feed, depth of cut, and nose radius of a ceramic cutting tool were examined. Effective approach angle, which is a function of cutting conditions, and boundary area were suggested, and then the influence of those was investigated, The following conclusions were obtained: (1)as cutting speed was increasing. DOC notch wear was decreasing (2) the cutting condition that magnitude of slendermess ratio was made small, was favorable for DOC notch wear, (3) as depth of cut was smaller, the influence of feed on DOC notch wear was also smaller, (4) DOC notch wear was mainly influenced by effective approach angle, but by boundary area in the range of low feed.

엔드밀 가공시 헬릭스각이 공구변위에 미치는 영향 (Effects of the Helix Angle on the Tool Deflection in End Milling)

  • In the end milling operation the deflection of the cutter is an important factor affecting the accuracy of machining with implications on the selection of cutting parameters and economics of the operation. The deflection of the end mill was studied both experimentally with strain gauge, tool dynamometer, laser measuring apparatus and on a finite element model of the cutting using ANSYS software. The deflection of machining tool with various helix angles was studied with FEM simulation and experiment. ANSYS analysis performed on the finite element model of the end mill provides deflection results which agree within 15.0% with the experimental ones.

  • The design of experiments are used for optimal design of formed tools to machine automobile bearing rubber seal die, which is classified into the high precision rubber mold. The clearance angle, rake angle and the length cutting edge are considered as the factors. The cutting force is selected to be a characteristic value and compared with the mean tool wear and life by repeated experiments. The design of the experiment is based on the repeated one-way factorial design, which finds the significance of the factors and the best level to predict the tool life by using ANOVA and regression.
