터빈캐스케이드에서 큰 팁간극에 의한 효과에 관한 연구 (A Study on Effects of Large Tip Clearance in a Turbine Cascade)

  • 터빈손실에 관해서 다양한 연구가 진행되어 왔다. 특히 팁 누수에 의한 손실은 주로 블레이드 높이의 5% 이하에 대해 연구되었다. 그러나 터보펌프 등 소형 터빈은 작은 크기로 인해 상대적으로 큰 팁 간극을 가지며 그에 대한 연구결과는 발표된 것을 찾기 힘들다. 본 연구는 입구유속 30m/s, 코드길이 기준 레이놀즈 수 210,000의 조건의 선형 터빈 캐스케이드에서 진행되었으며, 팁 간극은 코드길이의 1%에서 20%까지 총 6가지에 대해 손실을 측정하였다. 실험결과 팁 간극 10%에서 손실계수 최대 0.113으로 측정되었으며, 더 이상 손실이 선형적으로 증가하지 않는 것을 확인하였다.

팁 간극 영향으로 인한 원심 압축기 성능특성 시험연구 (Experimental Study on the Effect of Tip Clearance of a Centrifugal Compressor)

  • The experimental study on the effect of axial clearance between the tip of impeller blades and stationary shroud has been performed. The investigated compressor, which is a part of a small auxiliary power unit engine, consists of a curved inlet, a centrifugal impeller, a channel diffuser and a plenum chamber. It was designed for a total pressure ratio of 4.3 and an efficiency of $77\%$ at design speed of 60,000 rpm. The experiments are carried out in an open-loop centrifugal compressor test rig driven by a turbine. For the four different clearance ratios Cr(clearance/impeller tip width) of 6.25, 10.93, 15.60 and 20.30 percent, the overall performance data are obtained at $97\%,\;90\%$ and $80\%$ of the design speed. The results show the overall pressure ratio decrease of $7.7\%$ and the efficiency loss of $8.7\%$ across the variation of clearance ratio near the design speed. It also indicates that the influence of tip clearance became weaker as the flow rate is reduced and the stable operating range is not significantly influenced by the change of clearance ratio.

축류형 송풍기의 익단간극이 성능에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (A Study of the Tip Clearance Effect to the Performance of an Axial-Type Fan)

  • Fan performances are obtained with various tip clearance gaps and stagger angles of the rotor. A tested fan is an axial-type fan of which the casing diameter is 806 mm. Two different rotors are applied to this test. One is designed on the basis of the free vortex method along the radial direction and the other is designed using the forced vortex method. The operating conditions are varied to the ultimate off-design point as well as the deign point. Overall efficiency, total pressure and input power are compared with the tip clearance gaps and different stagger angle. The experimental results show that changing of the stagger angle has minor influence to the performance when the same rotor is applied. When the tip clearance gap is less than 5% of the rotor span, the overall efficiency, total pressure loss and input power reduction are varied linearly with the variation of the tip clearance gaps. On the design point, the overall efficiency is decreased to the rate of 2.8-2.9 to the increasing of the tip clearance, but the changing rate of the overall efficiency is alleviated when the fan operates at off-design points. In particular, this rate is more quickly declined on a fan with the rotor designed using the forced vortex method. The result of the total pressure shows that the pressure reduction rate is a 0.08-0.1 according to the tip clearance, and additionally the input power reduction rate is a 0.045-0.065 at design point.

Predictions of non-uniform tip clearance effects on the flow field in an axial compressor

  • Asymmetric tip clearance in an axial compressor induces pressure and velocity redistributions along the circumferential direction in an axial compressor. This paper presents the mechanism of the flow redistribution due to the asymmetric tip clearance with a simple numerical modeling. The flow field of a rotor of an axial compressor is predicted when an asymmetric tip clearance occurs along the circumferential direction. The modeling results are supported by CFD results not only to validate the present modeling but also to investigate more detailed flow fields. Asymmetric tip clearance makes local flow area and resultant axial velocity vary along the circumferential direction. This flow redistribution 'seed' results in a different flow patterns according to the flow coefficient. Flow field redistribution patterns are largely dependent on the local tip clearance performance at low flow coefficients. However, the contribution of the main flow region becomes dominant while the tip clearance effect becomes weak as the flow coefficient increases. The flow field redistribution pattern becomes noticeably strong if a blockage effect is involved when the flow coefficient increases. The relative flow angle at the small clearance region decreases which result in a negative incidence angle at the high flow coefficient. It causes a recirculation region at the blade pressure surface which results in the flow blockage. It promotes the strength of the flow field redistribution at the rotor outlet. These flow pattern changes have an effect on the blade loading perturbations. The integration of blade loading perturbation from control volume analysis of the circumferential momentum leads to well-known Alford's force. Alford's force is always negative when the flow blockage effects are excluded. However when the flow blockage effect is incorporated into the modeling, main flow effects on the flow redistribution is also reflected on the Alford's force at the high flow coefficient. Alford's force steeply increases as the flow coefficient increases, because of the tip leakage suppression and strong flow redistribution. The predicted results are well agreed to CFD results by Kang and Kang(2006).

  • 현재 항우연에서 개발 중인 우주발사체 터보펌프에 사용되는 터빈은 단단 충동터빈을 적용하고 있다. 우주발사체의 안정성을 위해 팁 간극을 비교적 많이 허용하고 있는데, 효율적인 면에서는 반동터빈 보다 다소 뒤지지만, 높은 출력비를 가지는 충동터빈이 팁 간극이 커질 때 어떤 효율경향을 나타내는지 알아보는 일은 의미 있는 일이다. 실험은 아음속 조건에서 실험하였고, 팁 간극을 각각 코드기준 1%$\sim$20%일 경우 충동과 반동 각각의 경우에 대하여 하류 전압손실을 측정하였다. 측정결과 팁 간극이 10%보다 더 커지면, 충동터빈이 오히려 전압손실량이 반동터빈보다 더 작아진다. 이것은 팁 간극이 비교적 큰 조건에서 충동터빈이 반동터빈보다 효율이나 출력비 면에서 더 나은 성능을 나타냄을 의미한다.

가스터빈 블레이드 팁의 열전달과 유동 특성에 대한 수치적 해석 (Numerical Analysis of Heat Transfer and Flow Characteristics on Squealer Tip of Gas Turbine Blade)

  • 본 연구에서는 전산해석을 통해 냉각 터빈 블레이드 팁 간극의 유동 및 열전달 특성을 연구하였다. 1단 고압터빈 노즐 출구에서 획득한 속도, 온도 프로파일을 로터의 입구에 적용하여 로터 도메인을 대상으로 전산해석을 하였다. 스퀼러 팁이 적용된 블레이드의 팁 간극을 스팬의 1%부터 2.5%로 조절하여 팁 간극의 공력 손실, 열전달 계수와 막냉각 효율의 영향을 고찰했다. 팁 간극이 커질수록 출구에서 공력 손실과 블레이드 끝단 표면에서 열전달 계수는 증가하였다. 특히 팁 간극이 스팬의 2%일 때 평균 열전달 계수가 급격히 증가하였다. 팁 영역의 막냉각 효율은 팁 간극이 작을수록 높았고, 캐비티 내부 냉각 홀 근처의 막냉각 효율이 높았다.

설계점 및 탈설계점에서 비균일 익단 간극을 가지는 축류 압축기의 유동장 예측 (Prediction of flow field in an axial compressor with a non-uniform tip clearance at the design and off-design conditions)

  • Flow structures in an axial compressor with a non-uniform tip clearance were predicted by solving a simple prediction method. For more reliable prediction at the off-design condition, off-design flow characteristics such as loss and flow blockage were incorporated in the model. The predicted results showed that flow field near the design condition is largely dependent on the local tip clearance effect. However overall flow field characteristics are totally reversed at off-design condition, especially at the high flow coefficient. The tip clearance effect decreases, while the local loss and flow blockage make a complicated effect on the compressor flow field. The resultant fluid induced Alford's force has a negative value near the design condition and it reverses its sign as the flow coefficient increases and shows a very steep increase as the flow coefficient increases.

  • The tip leakage flow passing through the clearance between rotor blade tip and casing shroud has been known to occupy an important portion of the rotor overall loss. In this study, flow characteristics in axial flow rotors with different tip clearances is investigated by experimental and numerical methods. The experimental study was carried out to measure static pressure and velocity profiles at the real rotating test rig. The axial flow rotors used for the experiments have ten blades and three different rotor diameter. The tip clearance heights are 1mm, 3mm, and 4.5mm. Measurements were done using spherical type five-hole probe by non-nulling method. The numerical study was carried out to calculate pressure distributions and velocity vectors at the same condition as the experiments in the flow fields of axial flow rotors using Phoenics code.

  • Characteristics of steady and unsteady cavitation in a turbopump inducer were investigated in this paper. To see the effect of tip clearance on the inducer performance, three cases of tip clearance were tested. The helical inducer, which has two blades with inlet tip blade angle of 7.8 degree and tip solidity of 2.7, was tested in the water. In the non-cavitating condition, the inducer head decreased with increase in the tip clearance. Rotating cavitation and cavitation surge were observed through unsteady pressure measurements at the inducer inlet. The cell number and propagation speed of the rotating cavitation were determined through cross-correlation analysis. During the rotating cavitation one cell rotated at the same rotational speed as that of the inducer rotation and the cavitation surge did not rotate. The critical cavitation number increased with increase in the tip clearance at the same flow rate, but the change of critical cavitation number was small at the nominal flow rate.

유체-구조 연성해석을 이용한 원심압축기 운전익단간극과 성능 예측 (Study on the Performance of a Centrifugal Compressor Using Fluid-Structure Interaction Method)

  • 본 연구에서는 날개 두께 분포가 다른 두 임펠러를 이용하여 유체-구조 연성해석을 통해 운전익단간극을 예측하고 임펠러의 변형이 성능에 미치는 영향에 대해 연구하였다. 임펠러는 작동조건에서 작용하는 원심력, 압력, 열 하중의 영향으로 변형이 발생하게 된다. 이로 인해 초기 설계된 익단간극이 비균일하게 변화하는 것을 확인하였다. 특히 임펠러 날개의 선단과 후단에서 가장 큰 익단간극 감소가 발생하였으며, 이로인해 간극누설유동이 19.4% 감소하였다. 또한 운전조건에서 익단간극 감소로 간극누설 유량이 감소하면서 효율은 0.72% 증가하는 것을 확인하였다. 원심압축기 작동조건에서의 정확한 운전익단간극의 예측과 익단간극의 변화가 성능에 미치는 영향에 대해서 확인하였다.
