Rejuvenating a system periodically during the most idle time of the system reduces unexpected downtime caused by software aging and increases its availability. In general, software rejuvenation can be largely divided into two broad categories: time-based rejuvenation policy and condition-based rejuvenation policy. In time-based rejuvenation policy the software rejuvenation is triggered at scheduled time epochs with fixed time intervals, while in condition-based rejuvenation policy the software rejuvenation is performed when system state is checked to satisfy a specific condition. Conditionbased policy adds extra cost to the system due to system monitoring and aging estimation. This paper presents a stochastic model for analyzing time-based software rejuvenation mechanism, where the rejuvenation is triggered at scheduled time epochs with fixed time intervals, and provides an analytical solution for the steady-state availability, the user-perceived availability, and the corresponding cost.

Availability, one of the important metrics used to assess the performance of network system, is defined as the probability that a system is operational at a given point in time under a given set of environmental conditions. To improve the availability of the network service, the redundancy models and the rejuvenation schemes are the effective schemes to be typically used. In this paper, we analyse the effect of 2N redundancy model and/or rejuvenation scheme on the availability of network service. The 2N redundancy model consists of one active and one standby component and the performance of time-based rejuvenation scheme mainly depends on its rejuvenation period. We design stochastic reward net model for the 2N redundancy model with time-based rejuvenation scheme and analyse the service availability of the model using stochastic Petri net package. We provide some numerical examples of the service availability, which shows that the system with rejuvenation has higher availability than the system without rejuvenation.
As the rapid growth of Internet, computer systems are growing in its size and complexity. To meet high availability requirements for the systems, one usually uses both hardware and software fault tolerance techniques. To prevent failures of computer systems from software-aging phenomenon that come from long mission time, we adopt software rejuvenation method that stops and restarts the software in the servers intentionally. The method makes the systems clean and healthy state in which the probability of fault occurrence is very low. In this paper, we study how switchover time affects software rejuvenation of primary-backup server systems. Through experiments, we find that switchover time is an essential factor for deciding the rejuvenation policy.
The software rejuvenation method for highly available multiplex systems uses a pro-active fault-tolerant approach to handle system failures. The software rejuvenation prevents failures from occurring, while the previous methods recover from failures after happening. Especially, since the software aging proceeds fast in the software used for the multimedia mobile computing due to the loss of communications or data, the preventive method from failures using software rejuvenation can be used for the multimedia mobile computing. In this paper, according to the operational parameters such as rejuvenation period, rejuvenation time, failure rate and repair rate of the servers, number of running servers, duration of running time, and type of running modes, we calculate steady-state probabilities, downtime, availability, and cost of the multiplex systems using software rejuvenation method. We validate the closed-form solutions of the mathematical model by experiments based on various operational parameters and find that the software rejuvenation method can be adopted as preventive fault-tolerant technique. The failure rate and unstable rate of the servers are essential factors for the decision making of the rejuvenation policies.
An cluster system used consist of large number of running servers, one has the problem that does the low availability occured by the high chance of the server failures and it is difficult to provide occuring software aging. In this paper, running cluster web servers consists of n primary servers and k backup servers, based on the operational parameters such as number of running primary servers, number of backup severs, rejuvenation period, rejuvenation time, failure rate of sewers, repair rate of servers, unstable rate of servers. We calculate to evaluate the rejuvenation policy such steady-state probabilities, downtime, availability, and downtime cost. We validate the solutions of mathematical model by experiments based on various operation parameters and find that the software rejuvenation method can be adopted as prventive fault tolerant technique for stability of system. The failure rate and unstable rate of the servers are essential factors for decision making of the rejuvenation policies.

The previous works in sensor networks security have focused on the aspect of confidentiality, authentication and integrity based on cryptographic primitives. There has been no prior work to assess the survivability in systematic way. Accordingly, this paper presents a survivability model of wireless sensor networks using software rejuvenation for dual adaptive cluster head. The survivability model has state transition to reflect status of real wireless sensor networks. In this paper, we only focus on a survivability model which is capable of describing cluster head compromise in the networks and able to switch over the redundant cluster head in order to increase the survivability of that cluster. Second, this paper presents how to enhance the survivability of sensor networks using software rejuvenation methodology for dual cluster head in wireless sensor network. We model and analyze each cluster as a stochastic process based on Semi Markov Process (SMP) and Discrete Time Markov Chain (DTMC). The proof of example scenarios and numerical analysis shows the feasibility of our approach.

Background Facial rejuvenation can be achieved using a variety of techniques. Since minimally invasive procedures for face lifting have become popular because of their convenience and short operating time, numerous minimally invasive surgical procedures have been developed. In this study, a nonabsorbable polypropylene mesh is introduced as a new face lifting instrument, with the nasolabial fold as the main target area. In this paper, we report the efficacy and safety of a polypropylene mesh in midface rejuvenation. Methods Thirty-three subjects with moderate-to-severe nasolabial folds were enrolled from two medical institutions for a noncomparative single-sample study. A mesh was inserted above the superficial muscular aponeurotic system layer, reaching the nasolabial folds through a temporal scalp incision. After 3 weeks, the temporal end of the mesh was pulled to provide a lifting effect. Then, the mesh was fixed to the deep temporal fascia using nonabsorbable sutures. To evaluate efficacy, we compared the scores on the Wrinkle Severity Rating Scale and a visual analog scale for patient satisfaction between the baseline and 7 weeks postoperatively. In addition, we evaluated safety based on the incidence of adverse events. Results The treatment was deemed effective at improving wrinkles in 23 of 28 cases, and patient satisfaction improved significantly during the study period. There were seven cases of skin or subcutaneous tissue complications, including edema and erythema, but there were no suspected serious adverse events. Conclusions Face lifting using a nonabsorbable mesh can improve nasolabial folds without serious adverse effects. Thus, this technique is safe and effective for midface rejuvenation.

High-temperature components of gas turbine operated for certain period of time can be reused by being repaired or rejuvenated. In case of the gas turbine combustion liners, the biggest and the most important one in the high-temperature components, come in a repair shop after operated for 8,000 or 12,000 hours according to the model and go through the repair and rejuvenation in order to be reused. A stated combustion liner is the first channel which has the combustion gas reached a nozzle from a fuel nozzle. Materials and coating properties of old and new model combustion liners were investigated. To repair these components after the visual inspection, the coatings of combustion liners were removed and then FPI(Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection), a kind of the NDI(Non-Destructive Inspection), was conducted. Damage patterns and the number of the damaged components were classified and analyzed based on data provided from the visual inspection over a long period of time. Focusing on the difference between old model and new model combustion liners, we analyzed the damage distribution and changes and consequently concluded that new model combustion liner would increase repair rate.

Anti-fungal potential of 5 plant extracts viz., Eucalyptus citriodora, Allium sativum, Cassia sophera, Chromolaena odorata and Datura metel on the growth of mulberry brown leaf spot pathogen Myrothecium roridum were examined. Except fur the aqueous extract of Allium bulb, ethanolic leaf extract of all other plants more efficiently reduced the colony growth of the fungus on potato-dextrose-agar, Of which, Allium and Eucalyptus extracts were more effective. Initiation of radial growth of M. roridum on solid media was deferred maximum 6 days by ethanolic Eucalyptus extract and 4 days by aqueous Allium extract at $0.4 mg.ml^{-1}$. In the liquid media amended with Eucalyptus extract ($0.4 mg.ml^{-1}$) complete inhibition of sporulation was noticed upto 8 days, and initial inhibition of mycelial bio-mass generation was considerably diminished with time and reduction was 1.3 fold 14 days after application. While, complete inhibition of mycelial growth for 6-14 days was recorded with $\geq$0.1 mg.ml$^{-1}$ commercial eucalyptus oil. However, rejuvenation of growth appeared when fungus was re-inoculated in fresh media. Post-inoculate application of different doses Of Eucalyptus and Allium extracts significantly (p < 0.05) reduced the disease severity in pot-ted mulberry. However, persistence of the effect up to 28 days was apparent at $\geq$ 1.0 mg.ml$^{-1}$ and effectively was on par with carbendazim (1 mg.ml$^{-1}$ ). Almost equal control ability of 1.0 mg.ml$^{-1}$ Eucalyptus extracts can be achieved by ca. 10 times lowered dose of commercial eucalyptus oil. It seems, the toxic principle of E. citrodora to M. roridum is fungistatic in nature and may have essential oil based origin.
