In this paper, the system for detection of photoacoustic signal has been constructed by using CW $CO_{2}$ laser for an analysis of the photoacoustic signal In metals and aluminum carbon steel, brass have been used as sample. The photoacoustic signals of several nano amperes have been detected in each sample with varying modulation frequency of laser, time constant of lock-in amplifier, thickness of sample. The characteristics of photoacoustic signal has been analysed in term of phase angle by using signal processing technique. Results indicate that the photoacoustic signal can be stabilized by adjustment of time constant of lock-in amplifier, that the signal amplitude is proportional to the ratio of thermal expansion coefficient to thermal capacity of metal, and that the signal amplitude decreases exponentially with sample thickness as well as with modulation frequency.

This study proposes the automation of disinfection process in water treat plant to reach target effluent chlorine concentration rate according to chlorine consumption rate by varying travel time. Hydraulic analysis about the process and local facility was surveyed first and the program for automatic operation was developed to solve current problem, whose applied result was presented and proved to be better than present controller. Especially using multi variable process algorithm, the correlation coefficient is analyzed between environment factor and reaction time, and process control prove to be stable through model estimation with optimal control input.

This paper presents experimental data on water droplet breakup in high-speed air flows. Exact-time-dependent evolution of wave and droplet interaction as well as breakup processes were optically visualized using a shadowgraph technique. Droplet experiments were conducted in a shock tube. Five flow conditions were used with an incident shock wave Mach number from 1.40 to 2.19 with Weber number based on the droplet initial diameter from 2300 to 38000, respectively. This corresponds to post-shock flow speeds varying from subsonic to supersonic. The considered droplet diameters were 2.0 mm to 3.6 mm. Some interesting wave patterns in the near wake were found. The present data shows that with an increase in the Weber number the droplet acceleration coefficient decreases and the level of decrease was weaker for the case of higher Mach numbers. This state of affair is different to the existing data in literature. Possible reasons are discussed.

The curing of epoxy asphalt mixture depends on the chemical reaction of epoxy resin and the curing agent. The curing level of epoxy asphalt mixture needs to be predicted in order to decide traffic opening time and to establish further construction plans. In this study, chemical analysis of the prediction model was executed to expand the applicability of the previous prediction model. Consequently, the curing level prediction model of epoxy asphalt concrete mixture was proposed using the concentration ratio and the acid value ratio. According to the results of outdoor curing experiments, the final prediction model showed that the correlation coefficient is greater than 0.971. Precise prediction results of different composition epoxy asphalt were obtained by reflecting the chemical composition ratios in the curing level prediction model.

A numerical study was made of flow behind a circular cylinder in a uniform flow, where the cylinder was rotationally oscillated in time. The temporal behavior of vortex formation was scrutinized over broad ranges of the two externally specified parameters, i.e., the dimensionless rotary oscillating frequency (.110.leq. $S_{f}$.leq..220) and the maximum angular amplitude of rotation (.theta.$_{max}$=15 deg., 30 deg. and 60 deg.). The Reynolds number (Re= $U_{{\inf}D}$.nu.) was fixed at Re=110. A fractional-step method was utilized to solve the Navier-Stokes equations with a generalized coordinate system. The main emphasis was placed on the initial vortex formations by varying $S_{f}$ and .theta.$_{max}$. Instantaneous streamlines and pressure distributions were displayed to show the vortex formation patterns. The vortex formation modes and relevant phase changes were characterized by measuring the lift coefficient ( $C_{L}$) and the time of negative maximum $C_{L}$( $t_{-C}$$_{Lmax}$) with variable forcing conditions.s.tions.s.s.s.
In this study soft computing techniques including, Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) were investigated for the prediction of Cr(VI) transport efficiency by novel Polymer Inclusion Membranes (PIMs). Transport experiments carried out by varying parameters such as time, film thickness, carrier type, carier rate, plasticizer type, and plasticizer rate. The predictive performance of ANN and ANFIS model was evaluated by using statistical performance criteria such as Root Mean Standard Error (RMSE), Mean Absolute Error (MAE), and Coefficient of Determination (R2). Moreover, Sensitivity Analysis (SA) was carried out to investigate the effect of each input on PIMs Cr(VI) removal efficiency. The proposed ANN model presented reliable and valid results, followed by ANFIS model results. RMSE and MAE values were 0.00556, 0.00163 for ANN and 0.00924, 0.00493 for ANFIS model in the prediction of Cr(VI) removal efficiency on testing data sets. The R2 values were 0.973 and 0.867 on testing data sets by ANN and ANFIS, respectively. Results show that the ANN-based prediction model performed better than ANFIS. SA demonstrated that time; film thickness; carrier type and plasticizer type are major operating parameters having 33.61%, 26.85%, 21.07% and 8.917% contribution, respectively.

The finite element method(FEM) is proven to be an effective approximate method of structural analysis if proper element types and meshes are chosen, and recently, the method is often applied to solve complex dynamic and nonlinear problems. A properly chosen element type and mesh yields reliable results for dynamic finite element structural analysis. However, dynamic behavior of a structure may include unpredictably large strains in some parts of the structure, and using the initial mesh throughout the duration of a dynamic analysis may include some elements to go through strains beyond the elements' reliable limits. Thus, the finite element mesh for a dynamic analysis must be dynamically adaptive, and considering the rapid process of analysis in real time, the dynamically adaptive finite element mesh generating schemes must be computationally efficient. In this paper, a computationally efficient dynamically adaptive finite element mesh generation scheme for dynamic analyses of structures is described. The concept of representative strain value is used for error estimates and the refinements of meshes use combinations of the h-method(node movement) and the r-method(element division). The shape coefficient for element mesh is used to correct overly distorted elements. The validity of the scheme is shown through a cantilever beam example under a concentrated load with varying values. The example shows reasonable accuracy and efficient computing time. Furthermore, the study shows the potential for the scheme's effective use in complex structural dynamic problems such as those under seismic or erratic wind loads.

In this paper, we present our proposed magnetic induction based wireless communication system. The proposed system is designed to perform communication as well as distance measurement in underground environments. In order to improve the communication quality, we propose and implement the adaptive channel compensation technique. Based on the fact that the channel may be fast time-varying, we keep track of the channel status each time the data is received and accordingly compensate the channel coefficient for any change in the channel status. By using the proposed compensation technique, the developed platform can reliably communicate over distances of 10m while the packet error rate is being maintained under 5%. We also implement the distance measurement block that is useful for various applications that should promptly estimate the location of nearby nodes in communication. The distance between two nodes in communication is estimated by generating a table describing pairs of the magnetic signal strength and the corresponding distance. The experiment result shows that the platform can estimate the distance of a node located within 10m range with the measurement error less than 50cm.

To improve the problem that the settlement curve of the consolidation theory of Terzaghi does not match well with the actual settlement curve, we included a secondary compression settlement and analyzed it by varying the beginning point and then obtained the following results. The current methods of calculating the compression index from the log𝜎 curve and the coefficient of consolidation from the time-dependent settlement curve for each consolidation pressure proved that the final settlement amount will be consistent after a long time, but the actual settlement amount will always be smaller than the predicted settlement amount during the settlement progress stage. The consolidation factors estimated by the curve fitting with the condition that the secondary compression begins in the second half of the primary compression showed similar values to the consolidation factors estimated by the curve fitting for the primary compression only, and the settlement curves were in better agreement throughout the compression. It showed different values, showing low validity. It can be inferred that secondary compression acts from the point when a significant portion of the excess pore water pressure is dissipated, and the loading stress begins to have more influence on the skeletal structure of the soil. Analysis results show that secondary compression begins at the range of 91 % to 98 % on the average degree of primary consolidation.
To circumvent the constraints of time-consuming experimental methods, numerical simulation can be one of the most effective approaches to investigating chloride diffusion behaviors in concrete. However, except for the effect of the external environments, the transport direction of the chloride cannot be neglected when the concrete is exposed to the marine tidal zone, especially in certain areas of concrete members. In this study, based on Fick's second law, considering the effects of timevarying, chloride binding capacity, concrete stress state, ambient temperature, and relative humidity on chloride diffusion coefficient, the modified one-dimensional, two-dimensional, and three-dimensional novel modified chloride diffusion theoretical models were established through defining the current boundary conditions. The simulated results based on the novel modified multi-dimensional model were compared with the experimental results obtained from some previous pieces of literature. The comparing results showed that the modified multi-dimensional model was well-fitted with experimental data, confirming the high accuracy of the novel modified model. The experimental results in literature showed that the chloride diffusion in the corner area of the concrete structure cannot be simulated by a simple one-dimensional diffusion model, where it is necessary to select a suitable multi-dimensional chloride diffusion model for simulation calculation. Therefore, the novel modified multi-dimensional model established in this study has a stronger applicability for practical engineering.
