  • In this paper, we present a novel segmentation method that can extract new foreground objects from a current frame in real-time. It is performed by detecting differences between the current frame and reference frame taken from a fixed camera. We minimize computing complexity for real-time video processing. First DCT (Discrete Cosine Transform) is utilized to generate rough binary segmentation maps where foreground and background regions are separated. DCT shows better result of texture analysis than previous methods where texture analysis is performed in spatial domain. It is because texture analysis in frequency domain is easier than that in special domain and intensity and texture in DCT are taken into account at the same time. We maximize run-time efficiency of DCT by considering color information to analyze object region prior to DCT process. Last we use Guided filter for natural matting of the generated binary segmentation map. In general, Guided filter can enhance quality of intermediate result by incorporating guidance information. However, it shows some limitations in homogeneous area. Therefore, we present an additional method which can overcome them.

  • In this study, a six degree-of-freedom motion analysis of a wind-wave hybrid platform equipped with numerous wave energy converters (WECs) was carried out. To examine the effect of the WECs on the platform, an analysis of one-way coupling was carried out, which only considered the power take-off (PTO) damping of the static WECs on the platform. The equation of motion of a floating platform with mooring lines in the time domain was established, and the responses of the one-way coupled platform were then compared with the case of a platform without any coupling effects from the WECs. The hydrodynamic coefficients and wave exciting forces were obtained from the 3D diffraction/radiation pre-processor code WAMIT based on the boundary element method. Then, an analysis of the dynamic responses of the floating platform with or without the WEC effect in the time domain was carried out. All of the dynamics of a floating platform with multiple wind turbines were obtained by coupling FAST and CHARM3D in the time domain, which was further extended to include additional coupled dynamics for multiple turbines. The analysis showed that the PTO damping effect on platform motions was negligible, but coupled effects between multiple WECs and the platform may differentiate the heave, roll, and pitch platform motions from the one without any effects induced by WECs.

  • The only transmission characteristics in frequency domain is considered when using the tapered transmission line for wide-band impedance matching in MCM and MIC designs. In this paper, the distortion of an electrical pulse with rise/fall time resulting from dispersion and reflection as it propagates along a tapered microstrip line is investigated, and the delay time and distortion rate with respect to input and load impedances are analyzed on triangular and exponential tapered lines. A dispersion model of the phase constant proposed by Kirschning-Jansen is used to meet the frequency, accuracy and microstrip parametric requirements. The triangular tapered line shows both shorter delay time and higher distortion rate than those of the exponential tapered line. Furthermore, the amplitude of signal reflected from load point is calculated in time domain.

  • The forced vibration characteristics for two impulse forces with time lag was discussed in the vehicle dull progress model. Detailed numerical analyses of the time domain were performed systematically. By the two exciting impulse forces, the responses of displacement, the velocity, and the acceleration were investigated in detail for the vehicle's vibration. Notably, the forced vibration responses in the time domain can be used to identify and monitor several vehicle vibration models. In order to define the responses of displacement, the velocity, and the acceleration, we applied a numerical technique (i.e., the Runge-Kutta-Gill method[1,2]). These variables were subsequently used to analyze the vehicle's vibration according to the time lapse and while it passed over a bump stock; moreover, the characteristics of the variables were analyzed in detail according to their force conditions. Finally, the intrinsic characteristics of the forced vibration were discussed in the context of the automobile model. Overall, our results indicate that the tested method can be successfully applied under different damped conditions.

  • The finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) model was developed to analyze electromagnetic (EM) wave propagation in an inhomogeneous ionosphere. The EM analysis of ionosphere is complicated, owing to various propagation environments that are significantly influenced by plasma frequency, cyclotron frequency, and collision frequency. Based on the simple auxiliary differential equation (ADE) technique, we present an accurate FDTD algorithm suitable for the EM analysis of complex phenomena in the ionosphere under arbitrary-direction geomagnetic field. Numerical examples are used to validate our FDTD model in terms of the reflection coefficient of a single magnetized plasma slab. Based on the FDTD formulation developed here, we investigate EM wave propagation characteristics in the ionosphere using realistic ionospheric data for South Korea.

  • Transient thermal analysis of a three-dimensional axisymmetric automotive disk brake is presented in this paper. Temperature fields are obtained using a hybrid FFT-FEM scheme that combines Fourier transform techniques and finite element method. The use of a fast Fourier transform algorithm can avoid singularity problems and lead to inexpensive computing time. The transformed problem is solved with finite element scheme for each frequency domain. Inverse transforms are then performed for time domain solution. Numerical examples are presented for validation tests. Comparisons with analytical results show very good agreement. Also, a 3-D simulation, based upon an automotive brake disk model is performed.

  • Press machine has advantage over other manufacturing machine which can produce large quantities of products in short time so it is widely used in lots of industrial sectors. However, vibration problems may occur when operating a high pressure. It has been subjected to the condition monitoring vibration sensors attached to the main point. We perform the maintenance before a failure occurs, the system receives a high load. In this paper, in order to determine the structural characteristics for the transport system to conduct the vibaration and shock analysis.

  • In this paper, numerical analysis package using Time-Domain Finite Difference (TDFD) method is developed to solve the initial value problem of Maxwell's equation and applied to several microstrip structures. TDFD allows us to show graphically the evolution of the crosswalk between microstrip lines. Moreover, we can obtain transmission line parameters and scattering parameters through Fourier transform of TDFD results in easy and efficient ways. TDFD is successfully applied to :1) wide band electromagnetic wave propagation along the single microstrip line, 2) crosswalk analysis between two microstrip lines, and 3) three metal line side-coupled filter. Our results show much better agreement with other theoretical experimental results reported in the literature. Thus we expect that TDFD is very useful to designing MMIC(Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuit).

  • This paper describes the principle behind Crank Angle Analysis, as implemented by Bruel & Kjaer in the Non-Stationary Spatial Transformation of Sound Fields (NS-STSF) system. The NS-STSF system combines a Time Domain Holography measurement on for example an engine with two simultaneously recorded Tacho signals. The Tacho signals provide the crankshaft angle and the RPM at the instant of each instantaneous output (snap-shot) from Time Domain Holography. As a result, the system allows precise analysis of the temporal and spatial relation between the acoustical emission (or the vibration pattern) and the mechanical events during an engine cycle. Some results from a measurement on a DaimlerChrysler engine are presented.
