  • The bending vibration and thermal flutter instability of spacecraft booms modeled as circular thin-walled beams of closed cross-section and subjected to thermal radiation loading is investigated in this paper. The thin-walled beam model incorporates a number of nonclassical effects of transverse shear, primary and secondary warping, rotary inertia and anisotropy of constituent materials. Thermally induced vibration response characteristics of a composite thin walled beam exhibiting the circumferantially uniform system(CUS) configuration are exploited in connection with the structural flapwise bending-lagwise bending coupling resulting from directional properties of fiber reinforced composite materials and from ply stacking sequence. The numerical simulations display deflection time-history as a function of the ply-angle of fibers of the composite materials, damping factor, incident angle of solar heat flux, as well as the boundary of the thermal flutter instability domain. The adaptive control are provided by a system of piezoelectric devices whose sensing and actuating functions are combined and that are bonded or embedded into the host structure.

  • The useful method for determining parameters of weighting functions used to design the $H_{\infty}$ current controller for attenuating the current ripple due to saliencies which SPMSM(Surface Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) also incorporates is described. To analyze the effect, the current ripple due to the structural and the saturation saliencies, the SPMSM model with nonlinear inductance function depending on the two independent variables, rotor position and stator current is simulated. After analysis, parameters of the weighting functions for $H_{\infty}$ current controller is selected to satisfy the robust stability, robust performance and specific performance in time and frequency domain by using the PSO(Particle Swarm Optimization) algorithm in the linear SPMSM model. Especially, the robust performance is proved that the selected weighting functions play a role in reducing the current ripple caused by the saliencies of SPMSM at the desired frequency range by the simple experiment.

  • Acoustic tiles are typically installed on the surface of pressure vessels in submarines to minimize echoes based on the ship's own noise and active sonar. In this study, we studied low frequency active echo reduction techniques to reduce underwater target echo signals. Active control algorithms using tile type projectors and FxLMS logic have been developed and the projectors have been installed in the assumed hull structure. The effectiveness of projectors and control algorithms has been evaluated in time and frequency domain analysis through experiments in the tank.

  • The purpose of this study is to find P-wave crustal velocity structure and the Moho characteristics beneath Seoul (SEO) and Inchon (INCN) stations using broadband teleseismic records. The use of broadband receiver function analysis is increasing to estimate the fine-scale velocity structure of the lithosphere. The broadband receiver functions are developed from teleseismic events of P waveforms recorded at Seoul (SEO) and Inchon (INCN) stations, and are analyzed to examine the crustal structure beneath the stations. The teleseismic receiver functions are inverted in the time domain of the vertical P wave velocity structures beneath the stations. The crustal velocity structures beneath the stations are estimated using the receiver function inversion method (Ammon et al., 1990). The general features of inversion results are as follows: (1) For the Seoul station, the Conrad and Moho discontinuities exist at 22 km and 30 km depth in the south ($BAZ=180^{\circ}$) direction. (2) For the Inchon station, the Conrad discontinuity exists at 22 km depth in the direction of SE ($BAZ=145^{\circ}$) and the Moho discontinuity exists at 30~34 km depth with a 4 km thick, which consists of a laminated velocity transition layers with thickness, whereas a crust-mantle boundary beneath the Seoul station consists of a more sharp boundary compared with the Moho shape of INCN station.

  • Steel catenary riser (SCR) is a popular/economical solution for the oil/gas production in deep and ultra-deep water. The behavioral characteristics of SCR have a high correlation with the motion of floating production facility at its survival and operational environments. When large motions of surface floaters occur, such as FPSO in 100-yr storm case, they can cause unacceptable negative tension on SCR near TDZ (touch down zone) and the corresponding elastic deflection can be large due to local dynamic buckling. The generation, propagation, and decay of the elastic wave are also affected by SCR and seabed soil interaction effects. The temporary local dynamic buckling vanishes with the recovery of tension on SCR with the upheaval motion of surface floater. Unlike larger-scale, an-order-of-magnitude longer period global buckling driven by heat and pressure variations in subsea pipelines, the sub-critical local dynamic buckling of SCR is motion-driven and short cycled, which, however, can lead to permanent structural damage when the resulting stress is greatly amplified beyond the elastic limit. The phenomenon is extensively investigated in this paper by using the vessel-mooring-riser coupled dynamic analysis program. It is found that the moment of large downward heave motion at the farthest-horizontal-offset position is the most dangerous for the local dynamic buckling.

  • Due to the rugged terrain, metro lines in mountain city across numerous wide rivers and deep valleys, resulting in instability of high-pier bridge and insecurity of metro train subjected to fluctuating crosswind. To ensure the safe operation in metro lines in mountain cities, running safety of the metro train over the high-pier bridge under crosswind is analyzed in this paper. Firstly, the dynamic model of the wind-train-bridge (WTB) system is built, in which the speed-up effect of crosswind is fully considered. On the basis of time domain analysis, the basic characteristics of the WTB system with high-pier are analyzed. Afterwards, the dynamic responses varies with train speed and wind speed are calculated, and the safety zone of metro train over a high-pier bridge subjected to fluctuating crosswind in mountain city is determined. The results indicate that, fluctuating crosswind triggers drastic vibration to the metro train and high-pier bridges, which in turn causes running instability of the train. For this reason, the corresponding safety zone for metro train running on the high-pier is proposed, and the metro traffic on the high-pier bridge should be closed as the mean wind speed of standard height reaches 9 m/s (15.6 m/s for the train).

  • In this study, a latching control technology, proposed by Sheng et al.(2015), was applied in order to maximize the extraction efficiency of WEC (Wave Energy Converter), which is the heaving buoy coupled with linear electric generator. The latching control is the phase-control technique for improving the wave energy conversion with appropriate latching duration of keeping the buoy fixed. From the time-domain analysis in regular waves, the latching control technology can significantly improve the heave velocity and extracted power, even though the resonance condition is not satisfied. By using the latching control technology, the draft of buoy as well as the required PTO damping force can be significantly reduced along with increased extracted power, which is a big advantage in manufacturing the WEC.

  • GIS technique enhanced a space data manipulation ability and we are offering a geographic information service through various analysis. The quantity used of the water was increased in such situation according to a population increase and a city concentration phenomenon. But, to secure clear water are difficult, owing to the water shortage phenomenon, seepage and the quality of water change for worse. We decide the seepage and the system to retrieve the seepage location using GIS in order to reduce vast loss from the seepage. In this paper we proposed Leakage Sensing System using TDR technology in GIS, constructed a GIS database and pilot system to prove the validity, and simulated it using TDR in GIS.

  • The touch down zone (TDZ) and top connection point of the vessel are most critical part of fatigue damage in the steel catenary riser (SCR). In general, the linear soil model has been used to evaluate fatigue performance of SCRs because it gives conservative results in the TDZ. However, the conservative linear soil model shows the limitation to accommodate real behavior in the TDZ as water depth is increased. Therefore, the riser behavior on soft clay seabed is investigated using a nonlinear soil model through time domain approach in this study. The numerical analysis considering various important parameters of the nonlinear soil model such as shear strength at mudline, shear strength gradient and suction resistance force is conducted to check the adoptability and applicability of nonlinear soil model for SCR design.

  • The iterative decomposition coupling formulation of the precise integration finite element method (FEM) and the time domain boundary element method (TD-BEM) is presented for elstodynamic problems. In the formulation, the FEM node and the BEM node are not required to be coincident on the common interface between FEM and BEM sub-domains, therefore, the FEM and BEM are independently discretized. The force and displacement converting matrices are used to transfer data between FEM and BEM nodes on the common interface between the FEM and BEM sub-domains, to renew the nodal variables in the process of the iterations for the un-coincident FEM node and BEM node. The iterative coupling formulation for elastodynamics in current paper is of high modeling accuracy, due to the semi-analytical solution incorporated in the precise integration finite element method. The decomposition coupling formulation for elastodynamics is verified by examples of a cantilever bar under a Heaviside-type force and a harmonic load.
