We proposed driving method with variable integration time for ambient light sensing. One operation period of the proposed driving method consists of several sub-integration periods with variable integration time which can enlarge dynamic range of ambient light sensing circuit. Temperature dependent characteristic of p-intrinsic-metal (p-i-m) diode can be compensated using the proposed driving method.

Recently IEEE 802.22 WG has considered Cognitive Radio (CR) technology to overcome shortage of communication channels. For using CR technology, accurate and rapid sensing method selection is extremely important. According to the channel sensing method, it is of the utmost importance because it can affect the incumbent system protection. So, optimum selection of channel sensing method is very important. IEEE 802.22 gives the solution, name of fine sensing, but the solution can not adapt to various networks. So in this paper we propose Policy-based Channel Sensing Architecture and Algorithms for Cognitive Radio Networks. The proposed channel sensing architecture and algorithms can reduce both primary system detection time and quiet time in our simulation. Among the proposed sensing algorithm, channel division round robin sensing reduce average detection time up to 70% compare to fine sensing method in IEEE 802.22.
One of main concerns of operators of the Earth observation satellite is taking images as many as possible under the constraints of satellite resources during fixed period. In order to achieve this goal, satellite operators are strongly required to generate the optimized image collection plans, and it is a very time consuming process to achieve an optimized image collection plan when it is done by manual. This paper suggests automation of image collection planning based on the dynamic programming algorithm to reduce the time required for image collection planning. The validity of the proposed method is tested using operating satellite system and the result is given in this paper.
There are two datasets to estimate the area-mean and time-mean precipitation rate. For one, an array of surface rain gauges represents a series of rods that have to the time axis of the volume. And another data is that of a remote sensing make periodic overpasses at a fixed interval such as radar. The problem of optimally combining data from surface rain gauge data and remote sensed data is considered. In order to combining remote sensed data with Automatic Weather Station (AWS), we use optimal weighting method, which is similar to the method of [2]. They had suggested optimal weights that minimized value of the mean square error. In this paper, optimal weight is evaluated for the cases such as Changma, summer Monsoon, Typhoon and orographic rain.

A key technical challenge in TV white spaces is the efficient spectrum usage without interfering with primary users. This paper considers available spectrum discovery scheme using in-band sensing signal to support super Wi-Fi services effectively. The proposed scheme in this paper adopts non-contiguous orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (NC-OFDM) to utilize the fragmented channel in TV white space due to microphones while this channel cannot be used in IEEE 802.11af. The proposed solution is a novel available spectrum discovery scheme by exploiting the advantages of a sensing signaling. The proposed method achieves considerable improvement in throughput and delay time. The proposed method can use more subcarriers for transmission by applying NC-OFDM in contrast with the conventional IEEE 802.11af standard. Moreover, the increased number of wireless microphones (WMs) hardly affects the throughput of the proposed method because our proposal only excludes some subcarriers used by WMs. Additionally, the proposed method can cut discovery time down to under 10 ms because it can find available channels in real time by exchanging sensing signal without interference to the WM.
This study is to combine precipitation data with different spatial-temporal characteristics using an optimal weighting method. This optimal weighting method is designed for combination of AWS rain gage data and S-band RADAR-estimated rain data with weighting function in inverse proportion to own mean square error for the previous time step. To decide the optimal weight coefficient for optimized precipitation according to different training time, the method has been performed on Changma case with a long spell of rainy hour for the training time from 1 hour to 10 hours. Horizontal field of optimized precipitation tends to be smoothed after 2 hours training time, and then optimized precipitation has a good agreement with synoptic station rainfall assumed as true value. This result suggests that this optimal weighting method can be used for production of high-resolution quantitative precipitation rate using various data sets.

We implemented a 10 Gb/s 4-channel vertical cavity surface emission lasers (VCSEL) driver array in a $0.13{\mu}m$ CMOS process technology. To enhance high current resolution, power dissipation, and chip space area, digital APC/AMC with time division sensing technology is primarily adopted. The measured -3 dB frequency bandwidth is 9.2 GHz; the small signal gain is 10.5 dB; the current resolution is 0.01 mA/step, suitable for the wavelength operation up to 10 Gb/s over a wide temperature range. The proposed APC and AMC demonstrate 5 to 20 mA of bias current control and 5 to 20 mA of modulation current control. The whole chip consumes 371 mW of low power under the maximum modulation and bias currents. The active chip size is $3.71{\times}1.3mm^2$.

Recently, wearable computers equipped with various biosensors such as smart watches, smart bands, and smart patches that support daily health management of users as well as patients have been released. Users of wearable computers such as smart watches face various difficulties in performing biometric information processes such as data sensing, collection, transmission, real-time analysis, and feedback in a weak wireless and mobile biometric information service environment. In particular, the biometric information collection interface is an important basic process that determines the quality and performance of the entire biometric information service. So far, research has focused on sensing hardware and logic. This study intensively considers the interface method for effectively sensing and collecting raw biometric information. In particular, the process of collecting biometric information is designed and analyzed from the perspective of periodicity. Therefore, we propose an efficient and stable periodic collection method.
Current accuracy of GPS is within the meter level, which is sufficient for route guidance of car navigation system(CNS). But receiving condition of GPS signal varies time to time according to surrounding objects such as building, trees, and terrain. For this reason, the performance of the route guidance is degraded in urban region. In this paper, to improve the performance of the route guidance of CNS, we propose a method for determining location of vehicle using a location of the traffic signal and its pixel size extracted from real-time Image.
This paper presents the method to provide a fast service for user in image manipulation such as zooming and panning of huge size high resolution satellite image(e.g. Giga bytes per scene). The proposed technique is based on the hierarchical structure that has 3D-Tiling in horizontal and vertical direction to provide the image service more effectively than 2D-Tiling technique in the past does. The essence of the proposed technique is to create tiles of optimum level in real time on the basis of current displaying area, which change as user manipulates huge image. Consequently, this technique provides seamless service, and will be very powerful and useful for manipulation of images of huge size without data conversion.
