  • This paper presents an algorithm for passive localization of a ship by applying the ray back-propagation technique to the ship radiation noise data. The previous method [S. H. Abadi, D. Rouseff and D. R. Dowling, J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 131, 2599-2610 (2012)] estimates the position of a sound source in the near-field environment with no array tilt by using the RBD (Ray-based Blind Deconvolution) and ray back-propagation techniques. However, when there exists an array tilt, the above method leads to a large position estimation error. In order to overcome the problem, this study proposes an algorithm that estimates the position of a sound source by correcting the array tilt using the RBD and ray back-propagation techniques. The proposed algorithm was verified by using the ship noise of SAVEX15 (Shallow-water Acoustic Variability EXperiment in 2015) experimental data.

  • In this paper, a new intelligent moving target tracking and surveillance system basing on the pan/tilt-embedded stereo camera system is suggested and implemented. In the proposed system, once the face area of a target is detected from the input stereo image by using a YCbCr color model and phase-type correlation scheme and then, using this data as well as the geometric information of the tracking system, the distance and 3D information of the target are effectively extracted in real-time. Basing on these extracted data the pan/tilted-imbedded stereo camera system is adaptively controlled and as a result, the proposed system can track the target adaptively under the various circumstance of the target. From some experiments using 480 frames of the test input stereo image, it is analyzed that a standard variation between the measured and computed the estimated target's height and an error ratio between the measured and computed 3D coordinate values of the target is also kept to be very low value of 1.03 and 1.18$\%$ on average, respectively. From these good experimental results a possibility of implementing a new real-time intelligent stereo target tracking and surveillance system using the proposed scheme is finally suggested.

  • In surveillance, monitoring, and target tracking operations, high-resolution images should be obtained even if the target is in a far distance. Frequent movements of vehicles such as boats degrade the image quality of onboard camera systems. Therefore, stabilizer mechanisms are required to stabilize the line of sight of boatboard camera systems against boat movements. This paper addresses design and implementation of a strapdown boatboard camera stabilizer. A two degree of freedom(DOF)(pan/tilt) robot performs the stabilization task. The main problem is divided into two subproblems dealing with attitude estimation and attitude control. It is assumed that exact estimate of the boat movement is available from an attitude estimation system. Estimates obtained in this way are carefully transformed to robot coordinate frame to provide desired trajectories, which should be tracked by the robot to compensate for the boat movements. Such a practical robotic system includes actuators with fast dynamics(electrical dynamics) and has more degrees of freedom than control inputs. Backstepping method is employed to deal with this problem by extending the control effectiveness.

  • In this paper, we proposed a feature-based tracking system that traces moving objects with a pan-tilt camera after separating the global motion of an active camera and the local motion of moving objects. The tracking system traces only the local motion of the comer features in the foreground objects by finding the block motions between two consecutive frames using a block-based motion estimation and eliminating the global motion from the block motions. For the robust estimation of the camera motion using only the background motion, we suggest a dominant motion extraction to classify the background motions from the block motions. We also propose an efficient clustering algorithm based on the attributes of motion trajectories of corner features to remove the motions of noise objects from the separated local motion. The proposed tracking system has demonstrated good performance for several test video sequences.

  • This paper describes a head pose estimation method using PTZ(Pan-Tilt-Zoom) camera. When the external parameters of a camera is changed by rotation and translation, the estimated face pose for the same head also varies. In this paper, we propose a new method to estimate the head pose independently on varying the parameters of PTZ camera. The proposed method consists of 3 steps: face detection, feature extraction, and pose estimation. For each step, we respectively use MCT(Modified Census Transform) feature, the facial regression tree method, and the POSIT(Pose from Orthography and Scaling with ITeration) algorithm. The existing POSIT algorithm does not consider the rotation of a camera, but this paper improves the POSIT based on perspective projection in order to estimate the head pose robustly even when the external parameters of a camera are changed. Through experiments, we confirmed that RMSE(Root Mean Square Error) of the proposed method improve $0.6^{\circ}$ less then the conventional method.

  • Flight-test is necessary at the identification of dynamic model of flight vehicle. A commonly faced problem is that once the flight-test instrumentation system is difficult to reschedule in the vehicle at the end of the test. This paper identified the parameter of dynamic model of vehicle using measurement data of non-flight test. The identification algorithm is based on frequency response identification method (CIFER) dealing with a longitudinal motion of Smart UAV 40% scale.

  • Texture provides an important acurce of information about the threedicensfornarry information of visible surface particulary for stationary conccular views. To recover three dicmensinoary information, the distorging effects of pro jection must be distinguished from properties of the texture on which the distrortion acts. In this paper, we show an approximated maximum likelihood estimation method by which we find surface oriemtation of the visible surface in gaussian sphere using local analysis of the texture, In addition assuming that an orthographic projection and a circle is an image formation system and a texel(texture element)respectively we derive the surface orientation from the distribution of variation by means of orthographic pro jemction of a tangent directon which exstis regulary in the are length of a circle we present the orientation parameters of textured surface with saint and tilt and also the surface normal of the resvlted surface orimentation as needle map. This algorithm was applied to geograghic contour and synthetic textures.

  • This paper presents the balancing control of a unicycle robot using air power. Since the robot has one wheel to move forward and backward, the balancing control is quite challenging. To control the balancing angle, the accurate angle estimation by a tilt and a gyro sensor is required a priori. A complementary filter is implemented to eliminate the defects of two sensors and to fuse together to estimate an accurate balancing angle. The optimal design of air ducts is found empirically. Experimental studies of the balancing control of a unicycle robot confirm that the robot is well regulated without falling down.

  • The fluxless wetting properties of UBM-coated Si-wafer to the binary lead-free solders(Sn-Ag, Sn-Sb, Sjn-In, Sn0Bi) were estimated by wetting balance method. With the new wettability indices from the wetting curves of one side coated specimen, the wetting property estimation of UBM-coated Si-wafer was possible. For UBM of Si-chip, Au/Cu/Cr UBm was better than au/Ni/TI in the point of wetting time/ At general reflow process temperature, the wettability of high melting point solders(Sn-Sb, Sn-Ag) was better than that of low melting point one(Sn-Bi, Sn-In). The contact angle of the one side coated Si-plate to the solder could be calculated from the force balance equation by measuring the static state force and the tilt angle.

  • In this thesis, we develop a vision based hand motion recognition system using a camera with two rotational motors. Existing systems were implemented using a range camera or multiple cameras and have a limited working area. In contrast, we use an uncalibrated camera and get more wide working area by pan-tilt motion. Given an image sequence provided by the pan-tilt camera, color and pattern information are integrated into a tracking system in order to find the 2D position and direction of the hand. With these pose information, we estimate 3D motion plane on which the gesture motion trajectory from approximately forms. The 3D trajectory of the moving finger tip is projected into the motion plane, so that the resolving power of the linear gesture patterns is enhanced. We have tested the proposed approach in terms of the accuracy of trace angle and the dimension of the working volume.
