  • " Row -Zone Tillage" systems apply tillage procedures only to narrow strips of land where the next crop rows will be planted. The tilled zones are no more than 25% of the field area. Row-zone tillage procedures of crop production are conservative, where in the soil remains partially covered with protective residues while crops are planted , fertilized , grown , and harvested in the row-zones. Specially adapted implements are being developed for these operations. There is potential for minimizing farm machinery inventories. Limited crop response data are available from Canada and the USA.d the USA.

  • Increasing national concern on nonpoint source pollution of surface and ground water Systems has led researchers and policy makers to develop certain agricultural Best Management Practices. As an initial step of broad study program above mentioned, this study reflected the effects of different tillage practice on bulk density and degree of saturation on two regional soils, namely Tama silt loam and Catlin silt loam. Results may help to clarify some of the conflicting findings on the impact of tillage systems on these parameters and it may also explain some of the reasons for specific role that different tillage systems play regarding nonpoint source pollution from agricultural fields.

A study on the emissions of SOx and NH3 for a 78 kW class agricultural tractor according to agricultural operations

  • The purpose of this study was to compare and analyze the emissions of SOx and NH3 for a 78 kW class agricultural tractor during agricultural operations. A real-time monitoring system was constructed for measuring the load data. The field test was conducted during plow and rotary tillage. The working conditions were selected with the transmission gears in M3 Low and M2 High for the plow tillage and L3 High and L3 Low for the rotary tillage. The engine torque and fuel consumption were measured using controller area network (CAN) communication, and the emissions of SOx and NH3 were calculated based on the fuel consumption. As a result of the field tests, the engine torque was higher for the plow tillage than for the rotary tillage. As the gear stage was increased, the engine torque became higher. The emissions of SOx and NH3 were higher for the plow tillage than for the rotary tillage because the fuel consumption increased. Moreover, the emissions of SOx and NH3 tended to be more distributed for the rotary tillage than for the plow tillage. To develop an emission factor for agricultural machinery, it is important to measure reliable emission data during agricultural operations. In a future study, we will collect various emission data using a portable emission measurement system during agricultural operations.

Effects of Rice-Winter Cover Crops Cropping Systems on the Rice Yield and Quality in No-tillage Paddy Field

  • The propose of this study was to find out optimum conditions for no-tillage rice-winter cover crops cropping system. A field research was conducted to evaluate productivity and quality of rice cultivars (Dongjinbyeo and Junambybyeo) in rice-winter cover cropping systems at Doo-ryangmyeon., Sacheon, Gyeongsangnam-do, Korea from January 2005 to October 2006. The experimental soil was Juggog series (fine silty, mesic family of Fluvaquentic Eutrndepts). The rice cultivars were experimented under some different high residue farming systems, i.e. no-tillage no treatment (NTNT), no-tillage amended with rice straw (NTRS), no-tillage amended with rye (NTR), no-tillage amended with Chinese milkvetch (NTCMV), tillage no treatment (TNT), and conventional cropping system (Control). The miss-planted rate was 8.8% in 2005 and range of 10.8% to 13.3% in 2006 at NTR, and the other treatments were carried out at miss-planted rate ranging from 1.2% to 5.0%. Tiller numbers of Junambyeo, and Dongjinbyeo in both of years were the highest in Control, and decreased nearly in NTCMV, NTR, NTRS, NTNT, and TNT in that order. The lowest grain yield was observed in TNT both cultivars due to the lower tiller numbers per area, and spikelet numbers per panicle. Also, no-tillage treatments were lower grain yield than control. On the other hand, 1,000-grain weight was lowest in control due to higher tiller numbers per area, and spikelet numbers per panicle. Ripened grain ratio was a similar aspect in all treatments. The palatability score of milled rice was lowest in control while protein content of milled rice was highest in control. The NTCMV was considered an effective sustainable farming practice for rice yield and quality.

전남지역 논 조건에서 무경운 재배가 콩의 생육, 수량 및 잡초 발생에 미치는 영향 (Effect of No-Tillage on Soybean Yield and Weed Emergence in Drained Paddy Field Condition in Jeonnam Province)

  • This study was conducted to compare soybean growth and yield and the degree of weed emergence according to no-tillage and conventional tillage system in two different drained paddy fields, loam of Chilgok series and silty clay loam of Deokpyeong series. In both soil conditions, the maturing time of the soybeans by the no-tillage system was two days earlier than that by the conventional tillage system. In the loam of Chilgok series, the stem length of the soybeans in the no-tillage system was 5.7 cm longer than that in the conventional tillage system. The miss-planted rate and diseased plants of black root rot (Calonectria iliacola) in the no-tillage system were 9.2% and 2.8% lower, respectively than those in the conventional tillage system. Also, the nodulation and seed yield in the no-tillage system were 32% and 13% more, respectively, than those in the conventional tillage system. In the silty clay loam of Deokpyeong series, the stem length of the soybeans in the no-tillage system was 4.6cm shorter than in the conventional tillage system. The diseased plants of black root rot (Calonectria iliacola) in the no-tillage system were 4.2% lower than those in the conventional tillage system. Also, no significant difference in the seed yield between the no-tillage and conventional tillage systems was observed. On the other hand, there was a lower occurrence of weed in the no-tillage system than in the conventional tillage system, and the income increased by 19% owing to yield increase and reduced management costs.

두둑을 재활용한 한국형 무경운 농업 III. 시설 무경운 유기재배 고추의 생육 및 생물다양성의 변화 (No-Tillage Agriculture of Korean-Style on Recycled Ridge III. Changes in Pepper Growth and Biodiversity at Plastic Film Greenhouse Soil in Organic Cultivation of No-tillage Systems)

  • 두둑을 재활용한 무경운 재배 토양의 고추의 생육량은 관행경운 토양에 비하여 22% 정도 증가되었고, 무경운 3년차는 12% 정도 증가되었다. 무경운 재배 2년차 토양에서 생산된 풋고추 건물중은 $348.4kg10^{-1}$으로 관행 경운 토양에 비하여 16% 증가되었으나, 무경운 3년차는 감소되었다. 무경운 2년차 토양의 세균은 관행 경운 토양에 비하여 유의적인 증가를 보였으나, 무경운 3년차에서는 관행 경운 토양과 유의적인 차이가 없었다. 방선균도 경운 토양에 비하여 무경운 2년차 토양은 유의적인 증가를 보였으나 무경운 3년차는 감소되었다. 곰팡이는 경운토양에 비하여 무경운 2~3년차 토양에서 1.3~1.7배 정도 증가되었다. 무경운 재배 토양의 $CO_2$ 발생량은 경운재배 토양에 비하여 41% 수준으로 발생량이 현저하게 감소되었다. 고추 생육 초기 관행 경운 토양의 미소동물은 톡토기목과 응애목 2종 6개체가 포획되었으나, 무경운 1년차 토양에서는 지네강 등 5종 11개체가 포획되었고, 무경운 2년차는 딱정벌레와 지네강 등 3종 5개체가 포획되었다. 고추 정식 46일 후에 조사한 경운재배 토양은 보라톡토기 등 4종 40개체를 포함 큰집게벌레 등 8종 97개체가 포획되었다. 무경운 재배토양은 9~10종 101~107개체가 포획되었다. 지표생물로서 환경의 변화의 기준이 되는 자연도 점수는 관행경운양 19점에 비하여 무경운 토양의 자연도 점수는 33점으로 1.74배 정도 높았다. 따라서 두둑과 고랑을 재활용한 한국형 무경운 농업은 관행 경운토양에 비하여 작물의 생육과 토양 미생물, 토양 곤충을 포함한 토양생물 다양성, 온실가스 발생량 감소에 긍정적인 역할을 하는 것으로 판단되었다.

경운과 무경운 조건에서 벼 건답휴립직파재배의 질소시비량 (Nitrogen level in tillage and no-tillage systems in Direct-seeded rice)

  • 경운과 무경운 조건에서 수도를 건답휴립직파 재배할 때 질소시비량이 수도의 생육과 수량성에 미치는 영향을 알기 위하여 직파재배용으로 육성중인 밀양 9005의 건조종자를 6kg/10a 수준으로 1990년 5월 17일에 산파하고, 맥류휴립광산파기로 복토하였다. 경운과 무경운에서 각각 질소를 10, 15, 20, 25kg/10a 수준으로 시용하였으며, 시험결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 입묘수와 최고분얼수는 경운에서 무경운보다 더 높은 경향이고, 출수기는 경운에서 2일 늦었으나 현미수량, 수량구성요소, 도복관련형질, 질소흡수량 등은 경운과 무경운간에 차이가 없었다. 질소시비량이 증가할수록 수수의 증가로 현미수량이 증가하였으나, 일수영화수와 등숙율은 차이가 없었으며, 천립중은 질소시비량이 증가할수록 약간 감소하였다. 질소시비량이 증가할수록 지상부길이와 bending moment는 커지고, 좌절중과 간기중이 감소하여 도복지수는 증가하였으나 포장에서 도복은 발생하지 않았다. 간기의 cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin함량은 질소시비량간에 차이가 없었다. 질소시비량이 증가할수록 질소함유율과 흡수량이 증가하였다.

옥수수포장의 토양 수분함량에 대한 토성과 경운의 영향 (Effects of Soil Types and Tillage Systems on Soil Water Movement in the Root Zone of Cornfields)

  • 토양수분 이동에 대한 토양 특성과 경운의 영향을 구명하기 위하여 3년 동안 일리노이 중부지방의 몇 개 토양통이 다른 옥수수 포장에서 토양 수분함량을 조사하였다. 경작 기간중의 무경운과 경운된 포장에서 30 cm 간격으로 깊이 150 cm 까지 Neutron Scattering 기술에 의하여 수분함량을 측정하였다. 토양 경작층에서의 수분함량은 경운이나 강우에 의해 수분함량의 영향을 받은 반면 심토에서는 토성에 의해 영향을 받았다. 토양수분은 점토 함량이 상대적으로 낮은 Saybrook통이나 Catlin통에서 점토 함량이 높아 수분 보유능이 높은 Drummer통, Flanagan통, 및 Ipava통보다 빠르게 이동하였다. 이들 Drummer통, Flanagan통, Ipava통의 높은 유기물 함량은 수분 보유능을 증가시키는 또 다른 이유가 될 수 있다. 또한 옥수수 경작층에서의 수분함량은 경운 포장에서 무경운 포장보다 높았다.

경운과 무경운 조건에서 벼 건답휴립직파재배의 질소분시비율 (Nitrogen Split Application of Direct-seeded Rice in Tillage and No-tillage Systems)

  • 경운과 무경운 조건에서 수도를 건답휴립직파할 때 질소분시비율이 수도의 생육과 수량성에 미치는 영향을 알기 위하여 직파재배용으로 육성중인 밀양 9005의 건조종자를 6kg / 10a 수준으로 1990년 5월 17일 산파하고, 맥류휴립산파기로 복토하였다. 질소-인산-가리를 15-10-10kg /10a 수준으로 시용하였는데 인산과 가리는 모두 기비로 시용하였다. 질소는 기비 : 담수직후 : 담수 2주후 : 출수 25일전 : 출수기에 요소를 10 : 20 : 30 : 20 : 20%, 20 : 30 : 20 : 20 : 10%, 30 : 40 : 0 : 20 : 10%로 분시하였고, 완효성시비료는 질소가 40%이고, 비효특속기간이 120일인 latex 피복한 요소를 전량기비로 시용하였다. 경운에서는 무경운에 비하여 출수기가 1일 지정되었고, 출수기의 엽면적지수가 컸으며, 도복지수가 적었을 뿐 입묘수, 수량, 수량구성요소, 도복관련형질 및 간기부의 cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin 함량은 차이가 없었다. 질소분시비율간에는 완효성비료 전량기비구에서 간장, 유효경비율, 간기중, 천립중, 수확지수가 더 컸으며, 무경운의 완효성비료 전량시비구에서 수량이 더 높았다. 완효성비료 시용구에서는 생육 초기에는 질소함유율과 흡수량이 가장 낮았지만, 출수기 이후에는 질소함유율과 흡수량은 다른 질소분시구보다 높았다. 분얼수는 완효성비료 시용구에서 가장 낮았고, 생육초기에는 질소의 기비비율이 높을수록 많았으며, 생육중기에는 20 : 30 : 20 : 20 : 10%의 분얼수가 가장 높았지만 유효경비율이 달라 수수는 처리간에 차이가 없었다.

Soil Mineral Nitrogen Upteke and Com Growth from Hairy Vetch with Conventional and No-Tillage Systems

  • Winter hairy vetch (HV) can be used as green manure with conventional tillage system (CT), in which chemical N fertilizer required for cultivation of sub-sequent com could be fully saved, or as cover crop with no-tillage system (NT) in which soil could be protected from erosion, control of weed, and the reduction of N fertilizer application. This experiment was carried out to compare the enrichment of soil mineral nitrogen (SMN) at corn root zone, and the changes of com growth and N uptake according to HV amounts (winter fallow, above-ground HV removed, intact HV, and HV added from aboveground HV removed) under two tillage systems in the upland field of National Crop Experiment Station, Suwon, Korea in 1996. HV cultivation during winter decreased SMN a little at com planting. HV incorporation with CT increased SMN rapidly during early growth stage according to rapid decomposition of Hv. SMN by HV cover with NT was increased slowly and its increase was higher in the surface soil (soil layer 0-7.5cm) compared to deep soil layer 7.5-22cm. Com growth and N status at corn silking stage, com yield and N uptake at harvest were increased in proportion to aboveground HV amounts regardless of tillage system. Average hairy vetch nitrogen (HV-N) uptake efficiency by com was 10% higher with CT than with NT in which average HV-N uptake efficiency was 43 %. Corn yields were not different between two tillage systems, but corn N uptake was increased by 33 kgN/ha more with CT than with NT due to the increase of corn N concentration. The increase of SMN and com N uptake from HV cover with NT could not be disregarded though those with CT were higher than with NT
