The comparison of Topex/Poseidon sea surface heights and Tide Gauge sea levels was studied in the South Indian Ocean after Topex/Poseidon mission of about 3 years (11- 121 cycles) from January 1993 through December 1995. The user's handbook (AVISO) for sea surface height data process was used in this study Topex/Poseidon sea suface heights ($\zeta$$^{T/P}$), satellite data at the point which is very closed to Tide Gauge station, were chosen in the same latitude of Tide Gauge station. These data were re-sampled by a linear interpolation with the interval of about 10 days, and were filtered by the gaussian filter with a 60 day-window. Tide Gauge sea levels ($\zeta$$^{Argos}$, $\zeta$$^{In-situ}$ and $\zeta$$^{Model}$), were also treated with the same method as satellite data. The main conclusions obtained from the root-mean-square and correlation coefficient were as follows: 1) to Produce Tide Gauge sea levels from bottom pressure, in-situ data of METEO-FRANCE showed very good values against to the model data of ECMWF and 2) to compare Topex/Poseidon sea surface heights of Tide Gauge sea levels, the results of the open sea areas were better than those of the coast and island areas.

Applicability of the MIKE21 model as a real time coupled tide-surge model is examined prior to the application as an inundation model. Though the model domain contains the whole southern coasts of Korean Peninsula, the results of tide simulations show good agreement with the observed values. Moreover, the coupled tide-surge model simulates water levels well, especially near the sites which typhoon MAEMI(0314) struck, such as at Tongyung, Masan and Pusan. In addition, it is confirmed that the interaction between storm surge and tide is notable where the water depth is small and the tidal range is large, which indicates the necessity of coupled model especially at the southwestern coast.

This paper presents the development of dynamically combined Typhoon generated surge-tide-wave numerical model which is applicable to shallow water. The newly developed model is based on both POM (Princeton Ocean Model) for the surge and tide and WAM (WAve Model) for wind-generated waves, but is modified to be applicable to shallow water. In this paper which is the first paper of the two in a sequence, we verified the accuracy and numerical stability of the hydrodynamic part of the model which is responsible for the simulation of Typhoon generated surge and tide. In order to improve the accuracy and numerical stability of the combined model, we modified algorithms responsible for turbulent modeling as well as vertical velocity computation routine of POM. Verification of the model performance had been conducted by comparing numerical simulation results with analytic solutions as well as data obtained from field measurement. The modified POM is shown to be more accurate and numerically stable compare to the existing POM.

Red tide(harmful algae) in the Korean Coastal Waters has a given a great damage to the fishery every year. However, the aim of our study understands the influence of meteorological factors (air and water tempaerature, precipitation, sunshine, solar radiation, winds) relating to the mechanism of red tide occurrence and monitors red tide by satellite remote sensing, and analyzes the potential area for red tide occurrence by GIS. The meteorological factors have directly influenced on red tide formation. Thus, We want to predict and apply to red tide formation from statistical analyses on the relationships between red tide formation and meteorological factors. In future, it should be realized the near real time monitoring for red tide by the development of remote sensing technique and the construction of integrated model by the red tide information management system (the data base of red tide - meteorological informations).
The purpose of this study is to develop of red tide information system for spatial and temporal analysis of red tide including the outbreak season of red tide and biological-oceanography parameters using GIS techniques. The outbreaks of red tide were sporadic in the South Sea until 1994, but became frequent and widespread in whole coastal waters of the South Sea and East Sea since 1995. Therefore, the research fields of red tide has undergone a major changes. For monitoring of red tide, many kinds of techniques were carried out such as remote sensing, GIS and fuzzy model system. In this research, the development methods of red tide information system were suggested. For construction of the CIS based Red Tide database, spatial distribution area, species of red tide plankton and physical environment were analyzed.
To understand the transport of anchovy egg-larvae, an integrated model consisting of a hydrodynamic model and a three-dimensional Lagrangian diffusion model was used for the anchovy Engraulis japornicus egg-larvae trace. Fist, in order to determine the circulation characteristics of the South Sea of Korea, residual flow according to tide, density and wind effect was investigated. In offshore regions, tide-induced residual current tends to flow eastward during the spring tide and westward during the neap tide. Residual flow is irregular due to the bottom topography in the coastal area. No special tendency was apparent in the open sea. Especially, the flow in the offshore regions showed results similar to that of the Tsushima Warm Current. The transport of anchovy egg-larvae is decided the physical properties of sea water. It is estimated that anchovy eggs spawned near the Jeju Island travels offshore, rather than to coastal areas, and grow in the front area between the coastal sea and offshore regions.
A primitive equation numerical model driven only by $M_2$ tide is used to examine role of tide in the temperature and velocity fields of Deukryang Bay. The numerical model reproduces several features of the observational temperature fields such that the isotherms tend to be parallel to the coast in the bay, and the colder water exists at the right hand side in the bay. The horizontal temperature and velocity fields in the model are dominantly influenced by bottom topography. The model also shows that the surface colder water in the bay is accompanied by strong-alongshore current during the flood tide. An investigation for baroclinicity in the bay by additional numerical experiment indicates that the baroclinirity in velocity field is very weak. The model, however, did not reproduce a stratification in the observation, implying that the model needs to add other semi-diurnal components such as $S_2,\;O_2\;or\;K_2$ tides to $M_2$ tide.
There are many studies on red tide due to the continuous increase in damage to domestic fish and shell farms by the harmful red tide. However, there is insufficient domestic research of identifying harmful red tide algae that automatically recognizes red tide images. In this paper, we propose a red tide image classification method using deep learning based open source. To solve the problem of recognition of various images of red tide algae, the proposed method is implemented by using tensorflow framework and Google image classification model.
Accuracy assessment of tide models in polar ocean has to be performed to accurately analyze tidal response of glaciers by using Double-Differential Interferometric SAR (DDInSAR) technique. In this study, we used 120 DDInSAR images generated from 16 one-day tandem COSMO-SkyMed DInSAR pairs obtained for 2 years and in situ tide height for 11 days measured by a pressure type wave recorder to assess the accuracy of tide models such as TPXO7.1, FES2004, CATS2008a and Ross_Inv in Terra Nova Bay, East Antarctica. Firstly, we compared the double-differential tide height (${\Delta}\dot{T}$) for Campbell Glacier Tongue extracted from the DDInSAR images with that predicted by the tide models. Tide height (T) from in situ measurement was compared to that of the tide models. We also compared 24-hours difference of tide height ($\dot{T}$) from in situ tide height with that from the tide models. The root mean square error (RMSE) of ${\Delta}\dot{T}$, T and $\dot{T}$ decreased after the inverse barometer effect (IBE)-correction of the tide models, from which we confirmed that the IBE of tide models should be corrected requisitely. The RMSE of $\dot{T}$ and ${\Delta}\dot{T}$ were smaller than that of T. This was because $\dot{T}$ is the difference of tide height during temporal baseline of the DInSAR pairs (24 hours), in which the errors from mean sea level of the tide models and in situ tide, and the tide constituents of $S_2$, $K_2$, $K_1$ and $P_1$ used in the tide models were canceled. This confirmed that $\dot{T}$ and ${\Delta}\dot{T}$ predicted by the IBE-corrected tide models can be used in DDInSAR technique. It was difficult to select an optimum tide model for DDInSAR in Terra Nova Bay by using in situ tide height measured in a short period. However, we could confirm that Ross_Inv is the optimum tide model as it showed the smallest RMSE of 4.1 cm by accuracy assessment using the DDInSAR images.

IIn this study, a wave-surge-tide coupling numerical model was developed to consider nonlinear interaction. Then, this model was applied and calculations were made for a storm surge on the southeast coast. The southeast coast was damaged by typhoon "Maemi" in 2003. In this study, we used a nearshore wind wave model called SWAN (Simulating WAves Nearshore). In addition, the Meyer model was used for the typhoon model, along with an ocean circulation model called POM (Princeton Ocean Model). The wave-surge-tide coupling numerical model could calculate exact parameters when each model was changed to consider the nonlinear interaction.
