  • Electronic and magnetic properties of $Ti_{1-x}M_xO_{2-\delta}$ (M=Co and Fe) thin films grown by sol-gel method have been investigated. Anatase and rutile $Ti_{1-x}Co_xO_{2-\delta}$ films were successfully grown on $Al_2O_3$ (0001) substrates and exhibited p-type electrical conductivity while the undoped films n-type conductivity. Room temperature vibrating sample magnetometry measurements on the anatase and rutile $Ti_{1-x}Co_xO_{2-\delta}$ films with same x ($=4.8 at.{\%}$) showed quite similar magnetic hysteresis curves with the saturation magnetic moment of $\~4 {\mu}_B$ per Co ion despite their differences in structural and electronic properties. Such giant magnetic moment is attributable to the unquenched orbital moment of the $Co^{2+}$ ions substituting the octahedral $Ti^{4+}$ sites. Similar ferromagnetic behavior was observed for $Ti_{1-x}Fe_xO_{2-\delta}$ films that are highly resistive compared to the Co doped samples. Saturation magnetic moment was found to decrease for higher x, i.e., $\~2$ and $\~1.5 {\mu}_B$ per Fe ion for x=2.4 and 5.8 at. $\%$, respectively. Conversion electron $M\ddot{o}ssbauer$ spectroscopy measurements predicted the coexistence of $Fe^{2+}$ and $Fe^{3+}$ ions at the octahedral sites of $Ti_{1-x}Fe_xO_{2-\delta}$.

  • The effect of NiO addition on the microstructure and microwave dielectric properties of (Zr$_{0.8}$Sn$_{0.2}$)TiO$_4$(ZST) was investigated. With the NiO addition, a dense ZST body of density higher than 95% has been achieved in the sintering temperature range of 1400 to 150$0^{\circ}C$. Energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDS) analysis of sintered specimen shows the presence of second phase at grain boundaries, which is considered to be NiTiO$_3$. Dielectric constant of the specimen is found to increase linearly with density. Q-values and TC$_{f}$decrease with increasing NiO content. The variation of dielectric properties with NiO content is discussed in term of the second phase. The ZST ceramics with small amount of additive gave $\varepsilon$$_{r}$=38, Q=7000 at 7 GHz and TC$_{f}$=-0.5 ppm/$^{\circ}C$, comparable with the values obtained by previous investigation.stigation.

  • Nanotubular $TiO_2$ prepared by electrochemical anodization has been significantly used for various applications due to high aspect ratio structures showing a high chemical stability. Morphological properties of nanotubular titanium oxide are easily tailored by adjusting types and compositions of electrolyte, pH value, applied voltage, temperature and anodization time. Since their catalytic properties can be enhanced by doping foreign elements into $TiO_2$, metal as well as non-metal elements are doped into $TiO_2$ nanotubes using different methods. For example, single anodization, thermal annealing, precipitation, and electrochemical deposition have been applied to simplify the doping process. In this review, anodization of Ti to produce $TiO_2$ and doping methods will be discussed in detail.

  • Carbon supports for dispersed platinum (Pt) electrocatalysts in direct methanol fuel cells (DMFCs) are being continuously developed to improve electrochemical performance and catalyst stability. However, carbon supports still require solutions to reduce costs and improve catalyst efficiency. In this study, we prepare well-dispersed Pt electrocatalysts by introducing titanium dioxide (TiO2) into biomass based nitrogen-doped carbon supports. In order to obtain optimized electrochemical performance, different amounts of TiO2 component are controlled by three types (Pt/TNC-2 wt%, Pt/TNC-4 wt%, and Pt/TNC-6 wt%). Especially, the anodic current density of Pt/TNC-4 wt% is 707.0 mA g-1pt, which is about 1.65 times higher than that of commercial Pt/C (429.1 mA g-1pt); Pt/TNC-4wt% also exhibits excellent catalytic stability, with a retention rate of 91 %. This novel support provides electrochemical performance improvement including several advantages of improved anodic current density and catalyst stability due to the well-dispersed Pt nanoparticles on the support by the introduction of TiO2 component and nitrogen doping in carbon. Therefore, Pt/TNC-4 wt% may be electrocatalyst a promising catalyst as an anode for high-performance DMFCs.

  • When the 0-2 mol% of $\textrm{La}_{3+}$ were added to the nanocrystalline $BaTiO_3$ powders and sintered at $1200~1400^{\circ}C$, the nanocrystailine $BaTiO_3$ ceramics having the average grain size of 110-240 nm were obtained except for when no $\textrm{La}_{3+}$ was added and sintered at > $1350^{\circ}C$. As the average grain size decreased from 240 nm to 110 nm, the tetragonality (c/a) and volume fraction of the $90^{\circ}$ domain decreased, and all the properties such as relative dielectric constant at room temperature, maximum relative dielectric constant at the temperature of phase transformation $\textrm{T}_{c}$ and diffuseness of phase transformation at $\textrm{T}_{c}$ also decreased. The results were attributed to the internal stress induced by inhibition of the $90^{\circ}$ domain formation in the case of finer grain size.

  • The microwave dielectric properties and a sintering behavior of MgTiO$_3$-CaTiO$_3$ ceramics doped with Li were investigated. The main composition was fixed as 0.94MMgTiO$_3$-0.06CaTiO$_3$ and Li$_2$CO$_3$was added excessively in the range of 0~10 mol% (with reference to Li atoms) and the specimens were sintered at 1200~140$0^{\circ}C$ for 4 hours. When the amount of Li was small the quality factor and dielectric constant were reduced, while those tow properties increased if the Li amount was above 1 mol%. But if Li was overly added those dielectric properties decreased again. Li, if added in the composition range of 1.0~3.0 mol%, can increase the quality factor of MgTiO$_3$-CaTiO$_3$ ceramics. The optimum amount of Li was 1.5mol% and sinterign condition was 1275$^{\circ}C$/4hr, at which we cudl obtain following results ; dielectric constant ($\varepsilon$$_{r}$) of f20.0, quality factor(Qxf$_{0}$) of 78,000 GHz and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency($\tau$$_{f}$) of -1.6 ppm/$^{\circ}C$.>.>.>.

  • The effects of $SiO_2$ and MnO addition on the sinterability and the electrical properties of 0.4mol% Nb-doped SrTiO3 varistor were investigated. The $SiO_2$ content was fixed at 0.3mol% and the MnO content varied from 0 to 1.0mol%. With 0.3 mol% $SiO_2$ and 0.3 mol% MnO addition, optimum density was obtained by sintering at $1200^{\circ}C$ without excess liquid phase. Impedance spectroscopy was performed on the sintered specimens with 0.3 mol% $SiO_2$ and various MnO contents. It was found that the resistivities of grains was increased with increasing MnO content. The dielectric constant was measured to be above 50000 in the specimen with 0.3~1.0mol% Mn content. The non-linear coefficient increased substantially with MnO addition, and it varied from 1 to 9 depending on the MnO content.

  • The effects of NiO addition on the microstructure and microwave dielectric properties of ($Zr_{08}Sn_{02}$)$TiO_4$ (ZST) were investigated. With the NiO addition, a higher density of ZST ceramics than 95% of the theoretical values has been obtained in the sintering temperature range of 1400 to 150$0^{\circ}C$.
