A new titanium alloy system. Ti-xFe-ySi (x,y=0-4 wt%). was designed and characterized with the point at low cost and high strength for casting applications. Fe improved room and elevated temperature mechanical properties owing to solid solution hardening and beta phase stabilization. Si yielded titanium silicides and Si addition over 1 wt% resulted in poor ductility due to coarse silicide chains at prior beta boundaries. The optimum composition was found to be Ti-4Fe-(0.5-1)Si in the viewpoint of tensile strength and ductility which are comparable to the Ti-6Al-4V. The metal-mould reaction was also examined for Ti-xFe and Ti-xSi binary alloy system. The thickness of surface reaction layer w as not affected significantly with Fe content, while it was decreased with Si content. In the Ti-4Si alloy, no reaction layer was found. The depth of surface hardening layer was about $200\mum$ regardless of the mould materials.
Mechanical properties of titanium alloy can be improved by controlling microstructure through heat treatment. In this study, Ti-3Al-8V-6Cr-4Mo-4Zr metastable beta titanium alloy, was controlled for excellent mechanical property and sound formability through various high temperature heat treatment and aging conditions and the optimum heat treatment conditions were determined. The specimens were heat-treated at $950^{\circ}C$, followed by various aging treatments from $430^{\circ}C$ to $500^{\circ}C$ for 1 to 24 h. As aging temperature and holding time increased, hardness increased by ${\beta}^{\prime}$ phase formation and precipitation of secondary ${\alpha}$ phase in ${\beta}$ matrix. However, the optimum aging temperature and holding time for mechanical properties were at $450{\sim}470^{\circ}C$ for 8~16 hr. Hardness values of the specimen aged at $450^{\circ}C$ for 8 h were found to be the highest. These results can be effectively applied to fabrication of spring with better formability and mechanical property.
In the present study, a simple method was successfully used for hydroxyapatite coatings on Ti-6Al-4V substrates deposited by using a sol-gel derived precursor. Prior to hydroxyapatite coating the samples were micropolished (0.1 micron) and divided into three sets. The first set, were the micropolished samples kept as such. The second set were coated with titania sol and the third set was treated with 5M NaOH. After three repetitions of hydroxyapatite coating procedures on each set and heat treatment at 600 $^{\circ}\Delta C$, the formation of hydroxyapatite has been confirmed by XRD analyses and the substrate material was found to be oxidized with negligible amount of CaO in the coating. The SEM studies revealed surface morphology. Hydroxyapatite, calcined at 600$^{\circ}\Delta C$, displaying a porous structure arisen from heating of the bulk. But, it is very meaningful in trying to approach morale management plans with an object of dental technicians. It is necessary that dental technicians should make efforts to control themselves.

Ti-6Al-4V has low specific gravity, high corrosion resistance and superior mechanical properties but it is very difficult to control oxygen content in MIM process. It is necessary to use powders with coarse particle size to decrease oxygen content of powders, so feedstocks with poor fluidity and sintered bodies with lower density are obtained in such cases. Fine titanium hydride-dehydride powders were blended with atomized powders to accomplish higher fluidity and sintered density. Sintered bodies had higher sintered density and mechanical properties equivalent to those of wrought materials by controlling oxygen content less than 0.35mass%.

Metallic biomaterials have been mainly used for the fabrication of medical devices for the replacement of hard tissue such as artificial hip joints, bone plates, and dental implants. Because they are very reliable on the viewpoint of mechanical performance. This trend is expected to continue. Especially, Ti and Ti alloys are bioinert. So, they do not chemically bond to the bone, whereas they physically bond with bone tissue. For their poor surface biocompatibility, the surface of Ti alloys has to be modified to improve the surface osteoinductivity. Recently, ceramic-like coatings on titanium, produced by plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO), have been developed with calciumand phosphorus-enriched surfaces. A lso included the influences of coatings, which can accelerate healing and cell integration, as well as improve tribological properties. However, the adhesions of these coatings to the Ti surface need to be improved for clinical use. Particularly Silicon (Si) has been found to be essential for normal bone, cartilage growth and development. This hydroxyapatite, modified with the inclusion of small concentrations of silicon has been demonstrating to improve the osteoblast proliferation and the bone extracellular matrix production. Strontium-containing hydroxyapatite (Sr-HA) was designed as a filling material to improve the biocompatibility of bone cement. In vitro, the presence of strontium in the coating enhances osteoblast activity and differentiation, whereas it inhibits osteoclast production and proliferation. The objective of this work was to study Morphology of bone-like apatite formation on Sr and Si-doped hydroxyapatite surface of Ti-6Al-4V alloy after plasma electrolytic oxidation. Anodized alloys was prepared at 270V~300V voltages with various concentrations of Si and Sr ions. Bone-like apatite formation was carried out in SBF solution. The morphology of PEO, phase and composition of oxide surface of Ti-6Al-4V alloys were examined by FE-SEM, EDS, and XRD.

Titanium is one of the most attractive materials due to their superior properties of high specific strength and excellent corrosion resistance. The applications in aerospace and medical industries demand machining process more frequently to obtain more precise products. Machining of titanium is faced with strong challenges such as increased component complexity i.e. airframe components manufacturing processes. The machining cost on titanium have traditionally demanded high cutting tool consumable cost and slow machining cycle times. Similarly, the high wear of the cutting tools restricts the cutting process capabilities. Titanium screws applied to fasten parts In the several corrosion environment. In the thread cutting of titanium alloys, the key point for successful work is to select proper cutting methods and tool materials. This study suggests a guidance fur selecting the cutting methods and the tool materials to improve thread quality and productivity. Some experiments investigate surface roughnesses, cutting forces and tool wear with change of various cutting parameters including tool materials, cutting methods, cutting speed. As the results, the P10 type insert tip was assured of the best for thread cutting of Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy. Also the initial depth of infeed was desirable to use the value below 0.5mm as the uniform cutting area method is applied.

The effects of blasting and acidic treatment on the corrosion characteristics of dental implant fabricated with Cp-Ti and Ti-6Al-4V alloy have been researched by using electrochemical methods. The fabricated implants were cleaned and sandblasted by $Al_2O_3$ powder and then acidic treatment was carried out in nitric acid solution. The surface morphology were observed using scanning electron microscope. The corrosion behaviors were investigated using potentiosat and EIS in 0.9% NaCl solution at $36.5{\pm}1^{\circ}C$. The potentio-dynamic test in 0.9% NaCl indicated that the corrosion potential of blasting and acidic treated implant was lower than that of non treated implant, but current density was higher than that of non treated implant. From the cyclic potentiodynamic test results of Ti implant, the passivation current density of blasting and acidic treated implant slightly higher than that of non treated implant. From A.C. impedance test results in 0.9% NaCl solution, polarization resistance($R_p$) value of blasting and acidic treated implant was lower than that of non treated implant. In case of blasting and acidic treated implant surface, the pits were observed in valley and crest of implant surface.

A series of multicomponent $Zr_{0.8}Ti_{0.2}Mn_{0.4}V_{0.6}Ni_{1-x}Fe_{x}$ (x=0.00, 0.08, 0.15, 0.22, and 0.30) alloys are prepared and their oystal structure and P-C-T curves are examined. The electrochemical properties of these allqys such as activation conditions, discharge capacity, cycling performance are also investigated. $Zr_{0.8}Ti_{0.2}Mn_{0.4}V_{0.6}Ni_{1-x}Fe_{x}$ (x=0.00, 0.08, 0.15, 0.22 and 0.30) have the C14 Laves phase hexagonal structure. The electrode was activated by the hot-charging treatment. The best activation conditions were the current density 120 mA/g and the hot-charging time 12h at $80^{\circ}C$ in the case of the alloy with x=0.00. The discharge capacity increased rapidly until the fourth cycle and then decreased. The discharge capacity increased again from the 13th cycle, arriving at 234 mAh/g at the 50th cycle. The discharge capacily just after activation decreases with the increase in the amount of the substituted Fe but the cycling performance is improved. The discharge capacity after activation of the alloy with x=0.00 is 157 mAh/g at the current density 120 mA/g. $Zr_{0.8}Ti_{0.2}Mn_{0.4}V_{0.6}Ni_{0.85}Fe_{0.15}$ is a good composition with a medium quantity of discharge capacities and a good cycling performance. The ICP analysis of the electrolyte for these electrodes after 50 charge-discharge cycles shows that the concentrations of V and Zr are relatively high. Another series of multicomponent $Zr_{0.8}Ti_{0.2}Mn_{0.4}V_{0.6}Ni_{0.85}M_{0.15}$ (M = Fe, Co, Cu, Mo and Al) alloys are prepared. They also have the C14 Laves phase hexagonal structure. The alloys with M = Co and Fe have relatively larger hydrogen storage capacities. The discharge capacities just after activation are relatively large in the case of the alloys with M = Al and Cu. They are 212 and 170 mAh/g, respectivety, at the current density 120mA/g. The $Zr_{0.8}Ti_{0.2}Mn_{0.4}V_{0.6}Ni_{0.85}Co_{0.15}$ alloy is the best one with a relatively large discharge capacity and a good cycling performance.
