Yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) has a low thermal conductivity, high thermal expansion coefficient, and excellent mechanical properties; thus, it is used as a thermal barrier coating material for gas turbines. However, during long-time exposure of YSZ to temperatures of 1200℃ or higher, a phase transformation accompanied by a volume change occurs, causing the YSZ coating layer to peel off. To solve this problem, YSZ has been doped with trivalent and tetravalent oxides to obtain coating materials with low thermal conductivity and suppressed phase transformation of zirconia. In this study, YSZ is doped with trivalent oxides, Nd2O3, Yb2O3, Al2O3, and tetravalent oxide, TiO2, and the thermal conductivity of the obtained materials is analyzed according to the composition; furthermore, the relative density change, microstructure change, and m-phase formation behavior are analyzed during long-time heat treatment at high temperatures.
Machine learning-based data analysis approaches have been employed to overcome the limitations in accurately analyzing data and to predict the results of the design of Nb-based superalloys. In this study, a database containing the composition of the alloying elements and their room-temperature tensile strengths was prepared based on a previous study. After computing the correlation between the tensile strength at room temperature and the composition, a material science analysis was conducted on the elements with high correlation coefficients. These alloying elements were found to have a significant effect on the variation in the tensile strength of Nb-based alloys at room temperature. Through this process, a model was derived to predict the properties using four machine learning algorithms. The Bayesian ridge regression algorithm proved to be the optimal model when Y, Sc, W, Cr, Mo, Sn, and Ti were used as input features. This study demonstrates the successful application of machine learning techniques to effectively analyze data and predict outcomes, thereby providing valuable insights into the design of Nb-based superalloys.

In this paper, we propose a fabrication technique for enhanced electrical properties of piezoelectric thick films with excellent patterning property using sol-infiltration and a direct-patterning process. To achieve the needs of high-density and direct-patterning at a low sintering temperature (< $850^{\circ}C$), a photosensitive lead zirconate titanate (PZT) solution was infiltrated into a screen-printed thick film. The direct-patterned PZT films were clearly formed on a locally screen-printed thick film, using a photomask and UV light. Because UV light is scattered in the screen-printed thick film of a porous powder-based structure, there are needs to optimize the photosensitive PZT sol infiltration process for obtaining the enhanced properties of PZT thick film. By optimizing the concentration of the photosensitive PZT sol, UV irradiation time, and solvent developing time, the hybrid films prepared with 0.35 M of PZT sol, 4 min of UV irradiation and 15 sec solvent developing time, showed a very dense with a large grain size at a low sintering temperature of $800^{\circ}C$. It also illustrated enhanced electrical properties (remnant polarization, $P_r$, and coercive field, $E_c$). The $P_r$ value was over four times higher than those of the screen-printed films. These films integrated on silicon wafer substrate could give a potential of applications in micro-sensors and -actuators.
A single phase perovskite relaxor ferroelectric PMN-PT-BT was prepared by a single calcination and the modified mixed oxide process. It was accomplished by ball-milling PbO, $Nb_2O_5,\;Ti(OC_3H_7)_4,\;BaCO_3,\;and\;Mg(NO_3)_2$ instead of MgO, removing the solvent, and then followed by calcination at 900$^{\circ}C$ for 2h. The specimen sintered at 1100$^{\circ}C$/2h showed the sintered density of 7.83 g/$cm^3$, room temperature dielectric constant of 22000, and dielectric loss of 2.5%. Addition of 1.0 mole% (0.3 wt%) of Ag as $AgNO_3$ and followed by calcination at 550$^{\circ}C$/2h lowered the sintering temperature to 900$^{\circ}C$. It still showed the sintered density of 7.88 g/$cm^3$, room temperature dielectric constant of 20000 and dielectric loss of 2.4%.
Sintering behavior of $BaO-Nd_{2}O_3-TiO_2$ with a Pb-based glassceramics frit were investigated in order to understand an effect of glassceramics as a low temperature sintering agent on dielectric ceramics. A green sheet form was fabricated through tape casting method with the glassceramic fut added $BaO-Nd_{2}O_3-TiO_2$. The dispersion properties, rheological properties and final density of dielectric composit slurry as a function of amount and composition of organic additives was examined. The dispersants' addition was effective in controlling dispersion of the ceramics in solution. The addition of excessive dispersant showed adverse effect on dispersion. The prepared slurries, containing ceramic : powders, glass-ceramics and various kinds of organic viechles, exhibited typical shear thinning behavior. The best properties of tape casting appeared powder to solvent ratio 65 : 35 and amount of the binder 6 wt$\%$ and plasticizer 3 wt$\%$. The viscosity of the slurry was 677 cps and green/sintered density in the tape was $3.3 g/cm^3,\;5.56 g/cm^3$ respectively.
In this study PZT powders were prepared with shapes of cubic by hydrothermal synthesis with various starting materials, and the sintering characteristics of the powders were investigated. The particle shapes were cubic regardless of starting materials, but the mean size of particles formed using $Pb(NO_3)_2$, $Ti(OC_4H_9)_4$ and $Zr(OC_4H_9)_4$ was relatively smaller than that of particles prepared from other starting materials. Agitation of the feedstock during hydrothermal reaction results in decreasing the required reaction temperature for the formation of nuclei, and in increasing the size of product particles. XRD results showed that the major phase of PZT crystal powders was a tetragonal phase at the Zr to Ti ratio of 40 to 60, or a rhombohedral phase at its ratio of 60 to 40. The density of a sintered body made from the hydrothermal powders in PbO surrounding varied with sintering temperatures and with periods of sintering time. The experimental results also showed that the optimum sintering condition was at $1150^{\circ}C$ for a 2hr sintering, and that the density of a sintered body was $7.6g/cm^3$.
Osseointegrated titanium implants have become an integral therapy for the replacement of teeth lost. For dental implant materials, titanium, hydroxyapatite and alumina oxide have been used, which of them, titanium implants are in wide use today. Titanium is known for its high corrosion resistance and biocompatability, because of the high stability of oxide layer mainly consists of $TiO_2$. With the development of peri-implantitis, the implant surface is changed in surface topography and element composition. None of the treatments for cleaning and detoxification of implant surface is efficient to remove surface contamination from contaminated titanium implants to such extent that the original surface elemental composition. In this sights, the purpose of this study was to evaluate rough surface titanium implants by means of scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) with respect to surface appearance and surface elemental composition. Moreover, it was also the aim to get the base for treatments of peri-implantitis. For the SEM and XPS study, rough surface titanium models were fabricated for control group. Six experimental groups were evaluated: 1) long-time room exposure, 2 ) air-powder abrasive cleaning for 1min, 3) burnishing in citric acid(pH1) for 1min, 4) burnishing in citric acid for 3min, 5) burnishing in tetracycline for 1min, 6) burnishing in tetracycline for 3min. All experimental treatments were followed by 1min of rinsing with distilled water. The results were as follows: 1. SEM observations of all experimental groups showed that any changes in surface topography were not detected when compared with control group. (750 X magnification) 2. XPS analysis showed that in all experimental groups, titanium and oxygen were increased and carbon was decreased, when compared with control group. 3. XPS analysis showed that the level of titanium, oxygen and carbon in the experimental group 3(citric acid treatment for 1min, followed by 1min of distilled water irrigation) reached to the level of control group. 4. XPS analysis showed that significant differences were not detected between the experimental group 1 and the other experimental groups except of experimental group 3. The Ti. level of experimental group 2, airpowder abrasive treatment for lmin followed by 1min of saline irrigation, was lower than the Ti. level of tetracycline treated groups, experimental group 5 and 6. From the result of this study, it may be concluded that the 1min of citric acid treatment followed by same time of rinsing with distilled water gave the best results from elemental points of view, and can be used safely to treat peri-implantitis.

Nowadays there are many sun protection cosmetics including organic or inorganic UV filter as an active ingredient. Chemically stable inorganic sunsEreen agents, usually metal oxides, we widely employed in high SPF products. Titanium dioxide is one of the most frequently used inorganic UV filters. It has been used as pigments for a long period of cosmetic history. With the development of micronization techniques, it becomes possible to incorporate titanium dioxide in sunscreen formulations without whitening effect and it becomes an important research topic. However, there are very few works related to quantitations of titanium dioxide in sunscreen products. In this research, we analyzed amounts of titanium dioxide in sunscreen cosmetics by adapting redof titration, reduction of Ti(IV) to Ti(III) and reoxidation to Ti(IV). After calcification of other organic ingredients of cosmetics, titanium dioxide is dissolved by hot sulfuric acid. The dissolved Ti(IV) is reduced to the Ti(III) by adding aluminum metals. The reduced Ti(III) is titrated against a standard oxidizing agent, Fe(III) (ammonium iron(III) sulfate), with potassium thiocyanate as an indicator In order to test accuracy and applicability of the proposed method, we analyzed the amounts of titanium dioxide in four types of sunscreen cosmetics, such as cream, make-up base, foundation and powder, after adding known amounts of titanium dioxide $(1{\sim}25w/w%)$. The percent recoveries of the titanium dioxide in four types of formulations were in the range between 96 and 105%. We also analyzed 7 commercial cosmetic products labeled titanium dioxide as an ingredient and compared the results with those of obtained from ICP-AES (Inductively Coupled Plasma-Atomic Emission Spectrometry), one of the most powerful atomic analysis techniques. The results showed that the titrated amounts were well coincided with the analyzed amounts of titanium dioxide by ICP-AES. Although instrumental analytical methods, ICP-MS (Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectrometry) and ICP-AES, are the best for the analysis of titanium, it is hard to adopt because of their high prices for small cosmetic companies. It was found that the volumetric method presented here gat e quantitative and reliable results with routine lab-wares and chemicals.
The Pd-Ni-Ag alloy composite membrane using modified porous stainless steel (PSS) as a substrate was prepared by a electroless plating technique. In this work, we have introduced the intermediate layer between Pd-based alloy and a metal substrate. As an intermediate layer, the mixtures of nickel powder and inorganic sol such as $SiO_{2}$ sol, $Al_{2}O_{3}$ sol, and $TiO_{2}$ sol were used. The intermediate layers were coated onto a PSS substrate according to various membrane preparation conditions and then $N_{2}$ fluxes through the membranes with different intermediate layers were measured. The surface morphology of the intermediate layer in the mixture of nickel powder and inorganic sol was analyzed using scanning electron microscope (SEM). Finally, the Pd-Ni-Ag alloy composite membrane using the support coated with the mixture of nickel powder and silica as an intermediate layer was fabricated and then the gas permeances for $H_{2}$ and $N_{2}$ through the Pd-based membrane were investigated. The selectivity of $H_2/N_2$ was infinite and the $H_{2}$ flux was $1.39{\times}10^{-2}mol/m^2{\cdot}s$ at the temperature of $500^{\circ}C$ and trans-membrane pressure difference of 1 bar.

Bulk metallic glass (BMG)/crystalline composites comprising a copper based BMG alloy and crystalline nickel were produced by means of eloctroless plating of nickel on $Cu_{54}Zr_{22}Ti_{18}Ni_6$ BMG powder and subsequent consolidation using spark plasma sintering. The plastic deformation behavior of BMG/crystalline composites was examined by uniaxial compression test at various temperatures in the supercooled liquid region (SLR) of the BMG alloy. The evolution of strain states during uniaxial compression was tackled by microstructure observations. Deformation temperature played an important role in the deformation behavior of BMG/crystalline composites, which was attributed to a strong temperature dependence of the flow stress of the BMG alloy in the SLR. BMG/crystalline composites deformed homogenously in the temperature range where the flow stress of the BMG alloy was close to that of crystalline nickel. In contrast, inhomogeneous deformation was observed in the temperature range where the flow stress of the BMG alloy largely differs from that of crystalline nickel.
