In order to determine the wear Properties of PECVD ceramic coatings, wear process was evaluated using the coated pin of Falex Tribosystem. Coating materials deposited wear the TiC, TiN and Ti(CN). An experimental process was established to determine the tribological characteristics of friction and wear behavior under the variation of applied load, temperature and sliding distance by the Falex test machine. The experimental results indicate that TiN coating compared with TiC coating on e materials have e excellent friction and wear characteristics. However TiC coating compared i친 TiN coatings have a low friction coefficient with steel and good thermal stability, and Ti(CN) has the excellent anti-wear properly as well as the superiority of extreme pressure property. Compound coating compared wi simple coatings show improved tribological characteristics.

This study formed a hard TiAlSiWN coating layer using Ti, Al, Si and W raw powders that were mechanically alloyed and refined. The TiAlSi and TiAlSiW coating targets were fabricated using a single PCAS process in a short time with the optimal sintering conditions. The coating targets were deposited on the WC substrate by forming coating layers using TiAlSiN and TiAlSiWN nitride nano-composite structures with an AIP process. The properties of the nitride nano-composite coating layers were compared according to the addition of W. The microstructure of the nitride nano-composite coating layer was analyzed, focusing on the distribution of the crystalline phases, amorphous phases ($Si_3N_4$), and growth orientation of the columnar crystal depending on the addition of W. The mechanical properties of the coating layers were exhibited a hardness of approximately $3,000kg/mm^2$ and adhesion of about 117.77N in the TiAlSiN. In particular, the TiAlSiWN showed excellent properties with a hardness of more than $4,300kg/mm^2$ and an adhesion of about 181.47N.
$TiO_2$ coating ceramic tile for self-cleaning purpose was prepared by the precipitant dropping method using $TiCl_4$ as a precursor. $TiO_2$ film was formed on the ceramic tile by spray-coating technique and heat-treated at $500^{\circ}C$ for 1 h. The size and crystalline structure of $TiO_2$ particles were 15.3 nm and anatase phase. The outdoor exposure tests were conducted and the effects of outdoor exposure test conditions, such as exhaust concentration of contamination materials (test places), the UV light intensity (irradiation direction) and coating amounts of $TiO_2$ on the self-cleaning properties were investigated by the brightness measurements. As a results, self-cleaning property of $TiO_2$ coating tile was affected by the coating amount of $TiO_2$ however, not affected by the UV light intensity included in sun's ray (irradiation direction). $TiO_2$ coating ceramic tile can be utilized for exterior finishing materials because of self-cleaning property of $TiO_2$ coating tile.
Large drill bits may face high hardness ore and high working pressure when working. To optimize the use effect of large drill bits and prolong the use time, it is necessary to add a layer of pressure-resistant, wear-resistant, and low-friction coating on the surface of the drill bit. In this study, CoCrNiAlTi high-entropy alloy coatings and CoCrNiAlTi (70 wt%)-TiC (30 wt%) composite coatings are successfully prepared on Q235 steel by plasma spraying. The CoCrNiAlTi (70 wt%)-TiC (30 wt%) coating consists of FCC solid solution and a small amount of TiC phase. The effect of TiC on the composition phase, microhardness, and elastic modulus of HEA coating is studied by X-ray diffractometer (XRD) and microhardness tester. The effect of TiC on the friction and wear properties of HEA coatings is investigated using a wear tester. By improving the process parameters, the metallurgical bonding between the coating and the substrate is well combined, and a coating without pores and cracks is obtained. The experimental results confirm that the microhardness, elastic modulus, and wear resistance of CoCrNiAlTi-TiC composite coating are better, and the friction coefficient is lower.
TiC coating formed on $Si_3N_4-TiC$ composite ceramic by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) has an improved microstructures, better thermal shock resistance and interfacial bonding than TiN coating does. TiN coating formed by CVD, however, has lower friction coefficients against steels and better chemical stability. The experimental results indicate that the coated insert is superior to the uncoated one in flank and crater wear resistance. And the multilayer coating shows an improved wear resistance than the monolayer coating.

TiN and TiCN films were deposited on the high speed steel by Cathode Arc Ion Plating(CAIP) Process to investigate the tool life extension effect. The experiment variables were bias voltage and deposit time for the TiN coating and reactive gas flow rate ($CH_4:N_2$) under fixing deposit pressure, are current, bias voltage for the TiCN coating respectively. The micro structure and mechanical properties were investigated and compared for among the coating conditions using various methods and machining practice.
PURPOSE. The purpose of this study was to assess the surface characteristics and the biocompatibility of zirconium (Zr) coating on Ti-6Al-4V alloy surface by radio frequency (RF) magnetron sputtering method. MATERIALS AND METHODS. The zirconium films were developed on Ti-6Al-4V discs using RF magnetron sputtering method. Surface profile, surface composition, surface roughness and surface energy were evaluated. Electrochemical test was performed to evaluate the corrosion behavior. Cell proliferation, alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity and gene expression of mineralized matrix markers were measured. RESULTS. SEM and EDS analysis showed that zirconium deposition was performed successfully on Ti-6Al-4V alloy substrate. Ti-6Al-4V group and Zr-coating group showed no significant difference in surface roughness (P>.05). Surface energy was significantly higher in Zr-coating group than in Ti-6Al-4V group (P<.05). No difference in cell morphology was observed between Ti-6Al-4V group and Zr-coating group. Cell proliferation was higher in Zr-coating group than Ti-6Al-4V group at 1, 3 and 5 days (P<.05). Zr-coating group showed higher ALP activity level than Ti-6Al-4V group (P<.05). The mRNA expressions of bone sialoprotein (BSP) and osteocalcin (OCN) on Zr-coating group increased approximately 1.2-fold and 2.1-fold respectively, compared to that of Ti-6Al-4V group. CONCLUSION. These results suggest that zirconium coating on Ti-6Al-4V alloy could enhance the early osteoblast responses. This property could make non-toxic metal coatings on Ti-6Al-4V alloy suitable for orthopedic and dental implants.
In this work, we performed a comparative study examining two coatings on Ti Gr.1 for use in fuel cell bipolar plates. The coatings consisted of carbon black as the conductor along with acrylic polymer and Ti Sol-Gel binder as the binder. Ti Sol-Gel that had precipitated as TiO2 in areas impregnated between carbon black gaps, thereby acting as a binder for carbon black and serving as a polymer coating. Neither of the coatings peeled off during the 90° bend test to check formability. The contact resistance of the TiO2 coating was found to be lower than that of the polymer binder coating. Moreover, due to coating shrinkage (denser) that occurred during the heat treatment process, the TiO2 binder coating showed almost the same level of corrosion resistance, as measured by potentiostatic and EIS tests, despite being thinner than the polymer coating. However, both the polymer binder coating and the TiO2 binder coating had many pores and irregularities internally (around 10 ~ 100 nm) and on the surface (0.1 ~ 2 ㎛). We considered that these pores and irregularities contributed to the lower corrosion resistance.

The effects of coating of 3$\mu\textrm{m}$ thickness on the mechanical property of alumina after heat treatment at 100$0^{\circ}C$ for 30minutes under $10^{-6}$torr vacuum was quantified in terms of modulus of rupture(MOR) using Weibull plot. While the copper coating did not change MOR of alumina due to the nonwetting behavior of Cu on $Al_2O_3$, the reactive titanium metal coating caused a noticeable 29% reduction in averaged MOr strength. This was related with the combined effects of microcracks in coating formed during heat treatment and good bonding character between Ti and $Al_2O_3$. The effect of cosputtering of Ti and Cu, bilayer coatings of Cu/Ti and Ti/Cu were also investigated. It was found that Ti, cosputtered, Cu/ti and Ti/Cu coatings reduced MOR strength of alumina in the order listed. This was correlated with the amount of Ti at coating/alumina inter-face associated with a coated layer or segregation of Ti during heat treatment.

On the bases of the results from "Additive Coating of BaTiO$_3$ Powder using Sol Coating Method I", experimental condition was defined. Representative additives for BaTiO$_3$, that is to say, Mg, Ca and Mn were experimented. The sources of the metal ion were used by organometal complex. As added it, the stability of BaTiO$_3$ sol was evaluated. Mg and Ca were stable, however, The solubility limit of Mn-ATH was 0.05 mol ratio in Mn-ATH/sol. The solubility limit of Mg ion in BaTiO$_3$ was lower than 2 mol%. From the x Ray diffraction patterns, lattice parameters were different with temperature and additives, because the solubility of metal ion was varied in BaTiO$_3$. The dielectric constant of BaTiO$_3$ powders which coated with the 1.5 mol% Mg and calcined at 1200$^{\circ}C$ was increased with 20%.
