  • This paper deals with the effect of static and dynamic cuttig force and the behaviour of drill life in drilling process. The experiments are performed with cemented carbide drills and high speed steel drills of 10mm in diameter and in an annealed SM45C. The conclusions are as follows (1) Dynamic cutting force is varied with the dept of hole. (2) Dynamic cutting forces of torque and thrust are increase with the increase in feed and cutting speed. (3) Chipping influence the dynamic cutting force of thrust than torque, and in the case of thrust, the amplitude is 3-7 times large than ordinary cutting state. (4) Prediction of drill life can be obtained from more easily the amplitude of static cutting force than that of dynamic cutting force.

  • Objective: This study aimed to analyze the effects and characteristics of the height of the treatment table on the force and time of ground reaction (GR) and contact hand (CH) generated from the therapist's feet to generate thrust during spinal manipulation (SM). Design: A cross-sectional survey study Methods: Thirty-six healthy subjects were recruited. SM was performed on the ilium using a knee-high table, where the therapist felt it was easy to control the subject's posture and body shape and comfortable to generate force, as well as a relatively high thigh-high table. The force and time generated by the therapist's GR and CH were simultaneously measured through a force plate. Results: As a result, there was a significant difference in peak force and rundown force at the therapist's GR according to the table height (p < 0.05). In the therapist's CH, there was a significant difference between PreMin (preload minimum) force and peak force (p < 0.05), and there was a significant difference between the time from PreMin to peak and the time of the entire section (p < 0.05). Conclusions: As a result, the generation of increased CH force and faster thrust duration were confirmed by mobilizing the reduced GR force of the therapist to generate thrust than the relatively high table on the knee-high table.

  • Composite air spindles are appropriate for the high-speed and the high-precision machining as small hole drilling of printed circuit board (PCB) or wafer cutting for manufacturing semiconductors because of the low rotational inertia, the high damping ratio and the high fundamental natural frequency of composite shaft. The axial load and stiffness of composite air spindles fur drilling operation are determined by the thrust ben ring composed of the air supply part mounted on the housing and the rotating part mounted on the rotating shaft. At high-speed rotation, the rotating part of the thrust bearing should be designed considering the stresses induced by centrifugal force as well as the axial stiffness and the natural frequency of the rotating shaft to void the shaft from failure due to the centrifugal force and resonant vibration. In this work, the air supply part of the thrust bearing was designed considering the bending stiffness of the bearing and the applied load. The rotating part of the thrust bearing was designed through finite element analysis considering the cutting forces during manufacturing as well as the static and dynamic characteristics under both the axial and con trifugal forces during high-speed rotation.

  • This study deals an estimation method of thrust measurement uncertainty in solid rocket motors. Guidelines of the force measurement uncertainty estimation have been provided by ISO, domestic and international organizations. However, all of them are described by focusing on the force calibration machines and force transducers with a conceptually-driven way. Thus the guidelines cannot be directly applicable to uncertainty estimation of calibration equation and its linear approximation, which are critical error sources in the thrust measurement. In this paper, the equations taking into account effects of both error sources are derived based on fundamental concepts of measurement uncertainty. These are applied to the real thrust measurement system where a relatively simple estimation method for the thrust measurement uncertainty is proposed.

  • In recent years, high hardness steel is used for most of the material in many areas including aircraft, nuclear power, space exploration and automotive parts. Low CBN tools are widely used in industrial field which can effectively process high hardness steel of HRC 45 or harder. The results of this study demonstrated, when high hardness steel, SCM440 is turned with Low CBN tools coated with TiN and TiAlN coatings respectively, that both the thrust force and cutting force tends to increase with more increase in cutting force than thrust force, as the feed rate increases at constant cutting speed. In addition, the size of the cutting force and thrust force does not change with the increased cutting speed at the same feed rate, but the tool life is reduced if the cutting speed is increased to shorten the machining time. Therefore, it is recommended to limit the cutting speed at 250 m/min maximum or less. Furthermore, comparing the cutting force of the three tools at the same cutting condition, Tin coating tool showed the smallest cutting force and Low CBN was the next, and the TiAlN coating tools showed the largest cutting force.

  • This paper describes for new design method to improve respones characteristics of moving-magnet type LDM with volume reduction of slider back iron. To achieve the constant thrust of LDM through restraining saturation at the center core of stator excitation coil, double sided stator winding of LDM is proposed. We constructed new type LDM to prove the validity of design process. Analysis results through measurement and simulation of proposed multi-separated winding LDM were proved excellent in response characteristics and static thrust.

  • This paper proposes a hybrid-excited linear synchronous motor (LSM) that has potential applications in a magnetically levitated vehicle. The levitation and thrust force characteristics of the LSM are investigated by means of three-dimensional (3-D) numerical electromagnetic FEM calculations and experimental verification. Compared to a conventional LSM with electromagnets, a hybrid-excited LSM can improve levitation force/weight ratios, and reduce the power consumption of the vehicle. Because the two-dimensional (2-D) FE analysis model describes only the center section of the physical device, it cannot express the complex behavior of leakage flux, which this study is able to predicts along with levitation and thrust force characteristics by 3-D FEM calculations. A static force tester for a hybrid-excited LSM has been manufactured and tested in order to verify these predictions. The experimental results confirm the validity of the 3-D FEM calculation scheme for the description of a hybrid-excited LSM.

  • The water-cooled Permanent Magnet Linear Synchronous Motor (PMLSM) has a wide range of applications due to high efficiency, high thrust force density and high acceleration. In order to ensure normal operation and maximum output, both the magnetic and thermal performance are vital to be considered. Based on ANSYS software, electromagnetic and thermal finite-element analysis (FEA) models of a 14-pole, 12-slot water-cooled PMLSM are erected adopting suitable assumptions. Firstly, the thrust force and force ripple with different current densities are calculated. Secondly, the influence of different water flow on the motor heat dissipation and force performance under different operationional conditions are investigated and optimized. Furthermore, for continuous operation, the temperature rise and thrust feature are studied under the rated load 8A, the proper temperature $120^{\circ}C$ and the limited temperature $155^{\circ}C$. Likewise, for short-time operation, the maximum duration is calculated when applied with a certain large current. Similarly, for intermittent operation, load time as well as standstill time are determined with the optimal current to achieve better thrust performance.

  • In the case of the general helicopter among rotorcraft, length of the rotor blade for thrust-generation is longer than that of fuselage and tail rotor is required in order to compensate moment of the fuselage. For those reasons, enough space for take-off and landing should be secured and an accessibility for building is low. Also, the accidents caused by tail rotor occur frequently. However, the case of counter-rotating has merits that tail rotor is unnecessary as well as length of the rotor blade can be shortened but has a weakness that the weight of body is increased. In the present study, aerodynamic force measurement on single rotor system equipped with NACA0012 airfoil, which has aspect ratio of 6 and chord length of 35.5 mm, was carried out. And measurement was conducted with blade which has a half size of the former blade by using single motor counter-rotating. Aerodynamic force measurement was acquired by using 6-component balances and coefficients of thrust and power were derived along the pitch angle varying from 0$^{\circ}$ to 90$^{\circ}$ with the increment of 10$^{\circ}$. Those aerodynamic force data will be utilized for the design and production of brand-new counter-rotating rotor blade system which has same thrust with single blade system and provides a good accessibility to building by reducing its blade length.

  • 2 phase 8 pole HB-type(flat-type) Linear Pulse Motor can be used as the high precision position actuator because of its many advantages (simple control circuit, high stiffness characteristics, etc). Also, using the microstep drive, its noise and vibration can be reduced considerably and positional resolution may be increased further. But, $20^{\circ}$tapered tooth shape to reduce the normal force have an much effect on the static thrust force characteristics. And, because of hybrid-type LPM, interaction between the permanent magnet and the excitation current have an effect on the various characteristics of LPM. Hence, in this paper, the effect of tooth shape on static thrust force characteristics was analyzed using the air gap permeance by finite element method. For analyzing the effect of unbalance between the m.m.f of permanent magnet and the m.m.f of excitation current, unbalanced m.m.f coefficient $\sigma$ were introduced with the permenace matrix and switching matrix.
