Optimization is carried out to determine process parameters which reduce the amount of springback and improve shape accuracy of a deep drawn product in sheet metal forming process. The study uses the amount of stress deviation along the thickness direction in the deep drawn product as an indicator of springback instead of springback simulation. The scheme incorporates with an explicit elasto-plastic finite element method for calculation of the final shape and the stress deviation. The optimization method adopts the response surface method in order to seek for the optimum condition of the draw-bead force. The present scheme is applied to the design of draw-bead force in a front side member formed with advanced high strength steel (AHSS) sheets of DP60. Results show that design of process parameter is well performed to decrease the stress deviation through the thickness and to reduce the amount of springback. The present analysis provides a guideline in a design stage for controlling the springback based on the finite element simulation of the complicated parts.
Three-dimensional finite element simulations are implemented for the in-pile thermo-mechanical behavior in U-Mo/Al monolithic fuel plates with different thermal creep rates of cladding involved. The numerical results indicate that the thickness increment of fuel foil rises with the thermal creep coefficient of cladding. The maximum Mises stress of cladding is reduced by ~85% from 344 MPa on the 98.0th day when the creep coefficient of cladding increases from 0.01 to 10.0, due to its equivalent thermal creep strain enlarged by 3.5 times. When the thermal creep coefficient of Aluminum cladding increases from 0 to 1.0, the maximum mesoscale stress of fuel foil varies slightly. At the same time, the peak mesoscale normal stress of fuel foil can reach 51 MPa on the 98.0th day for the thermal creep coefficient of 10, which increases by 60.3% of that with the thermal creep un-occurred in the cladding. The maximum through-thickness creep strain components of fuel foil differ slightly for different thermal creep coefficients of cladding. The dangerous region of fuel foil becomes much closer to the heavily irradiated side when the creep coefficient of cladding becomes 10.0. The creep performance of Aluminum cladding should be optimized for the integrity of monolithic fuel plates.

The modified couple stress-based third-order shear deformation theory is presented for sigmoid functionally graded materials (S-FGM) plates. The advantage of the modified couple stress theory is the involvement of only one material length scale parameter which causes to create symmetric couple stress tensor and to use it more easily. Analytical solution for dynamic instability analysis of S-FGM plates on elastic medium is investigated. The present models contain two-constituent material variation through the plate thickness. The equations of motion are derived from Hamilton's energy principle. The governing equations are then written in the form of Mathieu-Hill equations and then Bolotin's method is employed to determine the instability regions. The boundaries of the instability regions are represented in the dynamic load and excitation frequency plane. It is assumed that the elastic medium is modeled as Pasternak elastic medium. The effects of static and dynamic load, power law index, material length scale parameter, side-to-thickness ratio, and elastic medium parameter have been discussed. The width of the instability region for an S-FGM plate decreases with the decrease of material length scale parameter. The study is relevant to the dynamic simulation of micro structures embedded in elastic medium subjected to intense compression and tension.
In this article, the mechanical buckling analysis of simply-supported functionally graded plates is carried out using a higher shear deformation theory (HSDT) in conjunction with the stress function method. The proposed formulation is variationally consistent, does not use a shear correction factor and gives rise to a variation of transverse shear stress such that the transverse shear stresses vary parabolically through the thickness satisfying the surface conditions without stress of shear. The properties of the plate are supposed to vary across the thickness according to a simple power law variation in terms of volume fraction of the constituents of the material. Numerical results are obtained to study the influences of the power law index and the geometric ratio on the critical buckling load.

To ensure the safety margin of a reactor pressure vessel (RPV) under normal operating conditions, it is regulated through the pressure-temperature (P-T) limit curve. The stress intensity factor (SIF) obtained by the internal pressure and thermal load should be obtained through crack analysis of the nozzle corner crack in advance to generate the P-T limit curve for the nozzle. In the ASME code Section XI, Appendix G, the SIF via the internal pressure for the nozzle corner crack is expressed as a function of the cooling or heating rate, and the wall thickness, however, the SIF via the thermal load is presented as a polynomial format based on the stress linearization analysis results. Inevitably, the SIF can only be obtained through finite element (FE) analysis. In this paper, simple prediction equations of the SIF via the thermal load under, cool-down and heat-up conditions are presented. For the Korean standard nuclear power plant, three geometric variables were set and 72 cases of RPV models were made, and then the heat transfer analysis and thermal stress analysis were performed sequentially. Based on the FE results, simple engineering solutions predicting the value of thermal SIF under cool-down and heat-up conditions are suggested.

This paper is studied on the junction stress of the large tank and the cylindrical outlet such as a pressure vessel attached to a pope or nozzle theoretically. It is assumed that the diameter of tank is much larger than that of the nozzle cylinder, so it can be approximated that nozzle cylinder is attached to plate. As the current nozzle shape is manufactured as "Through Type" to reduce the stress concentration around the nozzle junction part of pressure vessel, a theoretical analysis on the cylinder with finite length should be performed to accomodate this fact. Each theoretical optimal values were obtained through the analysis of stress concentration caused by the variation of cylinder length and thickness, and these results were estimated by performing FEM Analysis. Analysis.
In this paper, a study was conducted for the optimization through shear web of shape the Edison program in wind power blade. We measured the displacement and stress distribution through two optimization methods to select the model with the smallest displacement and stress values. Before running the analysis, We try to find the inflection point through the shear web of the model and then analyze by introducing the geometric nonlinearity. The first optimization variables are introduced by the pitch angle and three web shapes. Third model such a honeycomb structure is good way to get an advantage for bending test. According to a method of previous optimization, third model is chosen and then the thickness of the web and blade as a variable is introduced, it is extracted as a result of displacement and the maximum stress per mass.
Recent deepwater offshore structures in the Gulf of Mexico utilize butt welded tubular joints. Application of a welded tubular joint includes tendons, production risers, and steel catenary risers. Fatigue life assessment of these joints becomes more critical, as the structures to which they are attached are allowed to undergo cyclic and sometimes large displacements around an anchored position. Estimation of the fatigue behavior of these tubular members in the design stage is generally condrcted by using S-N curves, as specified in the codeds and standards. Applying the stress concentration factor of the welded structure to the S-N approach often results in a very conservative assessment, because the stress field acting on the tubular has a non-uniform distribution through the thickness. Fatigue life analysis using fracture mechanics has been applied in the design of the catenary risers. This technology enables the engineer to establish proper requirements on weld quality and inspection acceptance criteria to assure satisfactory structural integrity during its design life. It also provides guidance on proper design curves and a methodology for accounting for the effects of non-uniform stress distribution through the wall thickness. Still, there is inconsistency when designing tubular joints using a conventional S-N approach and when specifying weld flaw acceptance criteria using fracture mechanics approach. This study developed fatigue curves that are consistent with both the S-N approach and the fracture mechanics approach. Accounting for non-uniform stress distribution and threshold stress intensity factor were key parameters in relating both approaches. A series of S-N curves, generated from the fracture mechanics approach, were compared to the existing S-N curves. For flat plate butt joint, the S-N curve generated from fracture mechanics matches with the IIW class 100 curve when initial crack depth was 0.5 mm (0.02 ). The new curves for tubular joint agree very well with the experimental results. The comparison also indicated the degree of conservatism built into the API X design curve.

The microfabricated test structures were used in order to evaluate the stress characteristics in films. The test structures were fabricated using surface micromachining technique, including HF vapor phase etching as an effective release method. The fabricated structures were micro strain gauge, cantilever-type vernier gauge and bridge for stress measurement, and cantilever for stress gradient measurement. The strain was measures by observing the deformation of the structures occurred after release etching and the amount of deformation can be detected by micro vernier gauge, which has gauge resolution of 0.2${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. The detection principles and the degree of precision for the measured strain were also discussed. The characteristics of residual stress in LPCVD polysilicon films were studied using these test structures. The stress gradient due to the stress variation through the film thickness was calculated by measuring the deflection at the cantilever free end.
