  • In the present study, optimization of throttle margin for high pressure turbine to be retrofitted or partially modified for power uprating or life extension in nuclear power plant, has been performed to increase the electrical output. Throttle margin for high pressure turbine is required to maintain all the time the rated power by opening more of governor valves whenever inlet pressure is decreased due to the tube plugging of steam generator. If throttle margin of high pressure turbine is too much compared to remaining lifetime, loss of electrical output due to pressure drop of governor valves is inevitable. On the contrary, if it is too little, the rated power operation can not be accomplished when inlet pressure of high pressure turbine is dropped after many years operation. So, throttle margin for high pressure turbine in nuclear power plant is compromised considering for the degradation of steam generator, governor valve capacity, manufacturing tolerance of high pressure turbine, future plan of power uprating, and remaining lifetime of power plant.

  • Industrial Steam Turbine first stage shell pressure is related to throttle flow. Theoretically, first stage shell pressure could, therefore, be measured and used as an index of turbine throttle flow. However, accurate flow measurements show that this pressure is not a reliable index of the actual flow. Data analysis of steam turbinessubjected to ASME acceptance tests shows that the use of first stage shell pressure as an index of throttle flow produced errors as large as 9.6 %. The mean of the errors was +2.2% with a standard deviation of ${\pm}$2.8 %. Applications that require an accuratedetermination of turbine steam flow, such as turbine acceptance testing, should, therefore, not rely on this method. Therefore, First stage shell pressure measurement serves as a valid and economical indicator of turbine throttle flow in cases where a high degree of accuracy in throttle flow measurement is not required but repeatability is desired, such as for boiler control. Generally speaking, Steam turbine first stage shell pressure may also be a very useful monitor of turbine performance when used with certain other turbine measurements.

  • Thin film electronic devices which brought the current mobile environment could be fabricated only under the high quality vacuum conditions provided by high vacuum systems. Especially for the development of advanced thin film devices, constant high quality vacuum as the deposition pressure is definitely needed. For this purpose, the variable conductance throttle valves were employed to the high vacuum system. In this study, the effects of throttle valve applications on vacuum characteristics were simulated to obtain the optimum design modelling of variable conductance of high vacuum system. Commercial simulator of vacuum system, $VacSim^{(multi)}$, was used on this investigation. Reliability of employed simulator was verified by the simulation of the commercially available models of high vacuum system. Simulated vacuum characteristics of the proposed modelling were agreed with the observed experimental behaviour of real systems. Pressure limit valve and normally on-off control valve were schematized as the modelling of throttle valve for the constant process-pressure of below $10^{-3}torr$. Simulation results were plotted as pump down curve of chamber, variable valve conductance and conductance logic of throttle valve. Simulated behaviors showed the applications of throttle valve sustained the process-pressure constantly, stably, and reliably.

  • In this work, the effects of fairly influential factors on performance of vacuum system, such as constant pressure and outgassing effect were simulated to propose the optimum design factors. Outgassing effects of selected vacuum materials on the vacuum characteristics were simulated by the $VacSim^{Multi}$ simulation tool. This investigation examined the feasibility of reliably simulating the outgassing characteristics of common vacuum chamber materials (aluminum, copper, stainless steel, nickel plated steel, Viton A). The optimum design factors for vacuum systems were suggested based on the simulation results. And, the effects of throttle valve applications on vacuum characteristics were also simulated to obtain the optimum design model of variable conductance on high vacuum system. Simulated vacuum characteristics of the proposed modelling were agreed with the observed experimental behaviour of real systems. Pressure limit valve and normally on-off control valve were schematized as the modelling of throttle valve for the constant process-pressure. Simulation results were plotted as pump-down curve of chamber and variable conductance of throttle valve. Simulated behaviors showed the applications of throttle valve sustained the process-pressure constantly, stably, and reliably.

For this purpose, the variable conductance throttle valves for controllable plasma employed to the high vacuum system. In this study, we analyzed the effects of throttle valve applications on vacuum characteristics simulated to obtain the optimum design modelling for plasma conditions of high vacuum system. We used commercial simulator of vacuum system, VacSim(multi) on this study. Reliability of simulator verified by simulation of the commercially available models of high vacuum system. Simulated vacuum characteristics of the proposed modelling agreed with the observed experimental behaviour of real systems. Pressure limit valve and normally on-off control valve schematized as the modelling of throttle valve for the constant process-pressure of below 10-3 torr. Simulation results plotted as pump down curve of chamber, variable valve conductance and conductance logic of throttle valve. Simulated behaviors showed the applications of throttle valve sustained the process-pressure constantly, stably, and reliably in plasma process.

  • The objective of this paper is to know the characteristics of pressure through a simplified typical carburetor used in small engines at the different throttle opening conditions. The carburetor is the device responsible for creating the right air-fuel mixture according to the different engine operating conditions. It is activated by the static or the dynamic pressure. The carburetor dummy is geometrically similar of LPG brush-cutter engine's diaphragm carburetor and is made of acrylic. Suction system gives body to crankcase vacuum using the vacuum pump and throttle opening conditions are controled by transfer device. Carburetor venturi throat and fuel charging tube diameter is each 20mm, 4.1mm. The result of the work presents an unprecedented phenomenon of suction pressure variation inside the carburetor venturi. It is predicted that these unprecedented pressure variation be caused by minor losses; sudden contraction or expansion, open or partially closed and so on.

  • Optimal engine control is needed to cope with the global environmental regulations that are globally enforced. For optimum engine control, the electronic throttle control system (ETCS) is a prerequisite. Automotive makers are having an effect on reducing emissions and improving fuel economy by applying ETCS which is designed to secure stability. The ETCS controls the output of the throttle valve by passing the output value of the accelerator position sensor (APS) to the engine control unit (ECU). In this study, the authors investigated the safety standards of domestic and overseas accelerator control system and tried to understand how the air flow control affects the engine output by replacing the throttle. The authors suggest an improvement proposal of safety standard based on the result of driving evaluation by various modes.

  • This study was carried out to evaluate indirect methods of engine torque measurement. Three indirect methods based on throttle valve opening, exhaust gas temperature and inlet air pressure were compared. The indirect method based on throttle valve opening appeared to be the most satisfactory in terms of accuracy and response time. The discrepancies between the direct method and the indirect method based on throttle valve opening in measuring engine torque were 2% on t he average.

  • A supersonic inlet at angle of attack has anti-symmetric pressure distribution, and it can make flow instability and structural problem. In this study, numerical analysis of three-dimensional inviscid flow was conducted under various throttle ratio and angle of attack conditions. Throttle ratio was defined as the ratio of the exit area to the smallest cross section area at inlet, and the ratio is controlled from 0 to 2.42. At various angle of attack, the characteristics of steady and unsteady flow around supersonic inlet is observed under different throttling ratios. From these results, pressure recovery curves and pressure history curves were plotted by post processing. Using pressure history data, FFT analysis is also carried out. Through these processes, it shows the tendency of pressure distribution anti-symmetricity and changing dominant frequency as increasing angle of attack.
