  • Abdominal compartment syndrome is one cause of deep vein thrombosis of lower extremity. Although prophylactic dose of anticoagulation agent is safely started after 24~48 hours without the evidence of active bleeding, there may be bleeding complication related to invasive procedure which trauma victims undergo. Inferior vena cava filter should be considered in the treatment plan of this complex situation.

  • The development of vaccines against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, which features high mortality and morbidity rates, has progressed at an unprecedented rate, and vaccines are currently in use worldwide. Thrombotic events after vaccination are accompanied by thrombocytopenia, and this issue was recently termed vaccine-induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia. This manuscript describes recently published guidelines and other related issues and demonstrates characteristic cases.

  • Cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVT) is a rare cerebrovascular condition accounting for 0.5-1% of all types of strokes in the general population. Hyperthyroidism is associated with procoagulant and antifibrinolytic activity, thereby precipitating a hypercoagulable state that predisposes to CVT. We report the case of a 31-year-old Korean man with massive CVT and diagnosis of concomitant Graves' disease at admission. Early diagnosis and prompt treatment of CVT are important to improve prognosis; therefore, CVT should be considered in the differential diagnosis in all patients with hyperthyroidism presenting with neurological symptoms.

  • Blunt carotid artery injury can lead to impaired brain perfusion due to ischemic stroke and thromboembolic events. To reduce the risk of potential neurological complications, it is critical to determine the diagnosis and management protocol as quickly as possible after a detailed clinical examination. This report presents successful surgical treatment of a young male patient who developed a traumatic left common carotid artery thrombosis after a motor vehicle accident.

  • We report on a case of thrombosis of the left common iliac artery following anterior lumbar interbody fusion (ALIF) of L4-5 in a 79-year-old man with no previous medical problems, including peripheral vascular disease. After completing the ALIF procedure, the surgeon could not feel the pulsation of the left dorsalis pedis artery, and the oxygen saturation ($SaO_2$) had fallen below 90% from pulse oxymetry on the left great toe. Thrombectomy was successfully performed after confirming the thrombus in the left common iliac artery using Computed Tomography (CT) angiography. Thrombosis of the common iliac artery is very rare following ALIF. However, delayed diagnosis can lead to disastrous outcome. Although elderly patients have no cardio-vascular disease or vessel calcification in pre-op evaluation, the possibility of a complication involving L4-5 should be considered.

  • Reported in this article is a case report of a patients who developed limb threatening ischemia as a consequence of a subclavian artery thrombosis resulting from screws. The subclavian artery thrombosis after open reduction and internal fixation of clavicle fracture, when it occurs, should be treated promptly by plate removal and claviculectomy. It can be prevented by placing screws in locations away from the underlying neurovascular structures.

  • Despite anticoagulation, systemic embolization and anticoagulant-related hemorrhage are the major drawbacks of heart valve replacement with mechanical prostheses. Among many predisposing factors, inadequacy of anticoagulation is the most important one. Surgery can be reserved for patients who do not response to thrombolytic therapy, We have experienced 3 cases of prosthetic valve thrombosis treated by thrombolytic therapy by use of urokinase and heparin. Two patients fully recovered and returned to their employments and active lives but 1 patient, died of intracerebral hemorrhage and infarction. We report prosthetic valve thrombosis thrombolytic therapy with urokinase and heparin which was detected and serially followed by 2-dimensional echocardiography, cinefluoro copy, and monitoring of Swan-Ganz catherterized pressures.

  • Lethargy in newborns usually indicates central nervous system dysfunction, and many conditions such as cerebrovascular events, infections, and metabolic diseases should be considered in the differential diagnosis. Nonketotic hyperglycinemia is an autosomal recessive error of glycine metabolism, characterized by myoclonic jerks, hypotonia, hiccups, apnea, and progressive lethargy that may progress to encephalopathy or even death. Cerebral sinovenous thrombosis is a rare condition with various clinical presentations such as seizures, cerebral edema, lethargy, and encephalopathy. Here, we report the case of a newborn infant who presented with progressive lethargy. An initial diagnosis of cerebral venous sinus thrombosis was followed by confirmation of the presence of nonketotic hyperglycinemia.

  • As a rare cerebrovascular disease, cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT) is caused by various conditions including trauma, infection, oral contraceptive, cancer and hematologic disorders. However, iron deficiency anemia is not a common cause for CVT in adult. Posterior fossa infarction following CVT is not well demonstrated because posterior fossa has abundant collateral vessels. Here, we report a case of a 55-year-old man who was admitted with complaints of headache, nausea, and mild dizziness. The patient was diagnosed with isolated lateral sinus thrombosis presenting as cerebellar infarction. Laboratory findings revealed normocytic normochromic anemia due to iron deficiency, and the patient's symptoms were improved after iron supplementation.

  • In this paper we detected the thrombosis formation by spectral analysis and neural network. Using microphone and amplifier, we measured the sound from the mechanical valve which is attached to the pneumatic ventricular assist device. The sound was sampled by A/D converter and the periodogram is the main algorithm or obtaining spectrum. We made the valvular thrombosis models using pellethane and silicon and they are thrombosis model on the disk, around the sewing ring and fibrous tissue growth across the orifice of valve. The spectrum of normal and 5 kinds of thrombotic valve were obtained and primary and secondary peak appeared in each spectrum waveform. So to distinguish the secondary peak of normal and thrombotic valve quantatively, 3 layer back propagation neural network.
