  • A phase-shifting projection moire method particularly intended for high-speed three-dimensional shape reconstruction of diffuse objects is presented. Emphasis is on realization of phase-shifting fringe analysis in projection moire topography using a set of line grating pairs designed to provide different phase shifts in sequence. Further a time-integral fringe capturing scheme is devised to remove undesirable high frequency original grating patterns in real-time without time-consuming software image processing. Finally the performances of the proposed method are discussed with measurement results.

  • Bones are dynamic structures, being supported by muscles, tendons, and ligaments. When some or all the structures are disturbed i.e. in fractures, the alignment of the bone in respect to the rest of the body is deranged. This gives rise to axial as well as rotational deformity in three dimensional planes. The correct alignment and position of the long bones are to be maintained to heal the bone in the best possible anatomical and functional position. The objective of this research is to address the problems in the current practice involving surgeon, assistant, fluoroscopy and crude mechanical means and to see if a robotic solution exists to solve the problems of manipulating and reducing long bone fractures. This paper presents various design aspects of the proposed surgeon-instructed, image-guided and robotic system including the system design specification, robot design and analysis, motion control and implementation, and x-ray image processing and incorporation in CAD environment.

Computer control of wheel chair by using landmarks

  • This paper describes computer control of a wheel chair by using landmarks. Firstly, the approach of landmark detection and recognition is described and the image coordinates are obtained by the primary component analysis method. Subsequently, the self-localization of the wheel chair is determined on the basis of a three-dimensional image processing method. Finally, the control system of the wheel chair is described and a navigation experiment is given. Experimental results indicate the effectiveness of our approah.

Image-based characterization of internal erosion around pipe in earth dam

  • Internal erosion around pipes can lead to the failure of earth dams through various mechanisms. This study investigates the displacement patterns in earth dam models under three different failure modes due to internal erosion, using digital image correlation (DIC) methods. Three failure modes—erosion along a pipe (FM1), pipe leakage leading to soil erosion (FM2), and erosion in a pipe due to defects (FM3)—are analyzed using two- and three-dimensional image- processing techniques. The internal displacement of the cross-sectional area and the surface displacement of the downstream slope in the dam models are monitored using an image acquisition system. Physical model tests reveal that FM1 exhibits significant displacement on the upper surface of the downstream slope, FM2 shows focused displacement around the pipe defect, and FM3 demonstrates increased displacement on the upstream slope. The variations in internal and surface displacements with time depend on the segmented area and failure mode. Analyzing the relationships between internal and surface displacements using Pearson correlation coefficients reveals various displacement patterns for the segmented areas and failure modes. Therefore, the image-based characterization methods presented in this study may be useful for analyzing the displacement distribution and behavior of earth dams around pipes, and further, for understanding and predicting their failure mechanisms.

CUDA 기반 영상 분할을 사용한 비사실적 렌더링 (Non-Photorealistic Rendering Using CUDA-Based Image Segmentation)

  • 비사실적 렌더링(NPR; Non-Photorealistic Rendering)은 2차원 영상과 3차원 모델을 대상으로 하는 방법이 다르며 각각의 대상에 NPR을 적용하여 두 콘텐츠를 혼합하면 이질감이 나타나는 문제점이 있다. 본 논문에서는 3차원 객체와 영상에 있어서 각각의 대상에 카툰 및 스케치와 같은 비사실적 효과를 적용하여 조화롭게 혼합하는 기법을 제시한다. 제안 기법은 2차원 영상의 데이터를 분석하여 컬러 분포 특징을 얻고 이를 이용하여 실사 영상이나 3D 객체의 컬러 수를 줄인다. 단순화된 컬러맵과 윤곽선 에지 데이터로부터 비사실적 렌더링을 실시한다. 컬러맵 정보의 추출 및 적용 과정에서 자연스러운 장면 연출을 위해서 영상분할 과정이 필요하다. 그러나 영상분할 기법은 많은 연산을 필요로 한다. 특히 크기가 큰 입력에 대해서는 비사실적 렌더링에 많은 시간이 소요된다. 처리 시간이 많은 영상분할의 고속화를 위하여 GPU(Graphics Processing Unit)를 이용한 병렬 컴퓨팅을 할 수 있는 GPGPU(General-Purpose GPU)를 사용한다. GPGPU의 사용으로 알고리즘의 수행속도를 크게 개선하였다. 또한 영상분할 후 단순화된 컬러를 추출하여 일련의 컬러맵을 생성한 뒤 3D 객체에 NPR을 적용할 때 추출해낸 컬러맵을 적용하여 2차원 영상과 3차원 객채 간의 이질감을 줄이고 조화롭게 하였다.

  • 집적결상법으로 3차원 영상을 재생하는 경우 재생영상의 일부분이 중복 또는 누락되는 왜곡현상이 나타난다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 왜곡현상의 원인을 분석하고 정량적 해석을 시도하였다. 집적결상에서 사용 가능한 몇 가지 기본적인 변수들을 도입하여 왜곡을 정량화하고 최소화될 조건을 조사하였으며, 그 특성을 실험을 동해 확인하였다.

Workflow for Anamorphic 3D Advertising based on Image Distortion

  • In producing anamorphic 3D advertisement projects, it is necessary to apply the principles of illusion art to distort the images output to the screen (Image Distortion) so that their display aligns with our visual perception in a real three-dimensional environment. We focuse on the methods of image distortion in the creation of content for anamorphic 3D advertisement screens in this thesis. We propose using Unity 3D's real-time rendering instead of the offline rendering method of compositing method, and employing UV grid mapping to replace the manual correction in Adobe After Effects(AE). The significance of this paper lies in simplifying the image distortion processing workflow in anamorphic 3D projects and optimizing the image distortion creation methods used in compositing method. In outdoor anamorphic 3D advertisement projects, the proposed image distortion creation method demonstrates significant advantages in terms of production time, process simplification, flexibility, and expansion possibilities. Our research provides new perspectives and methods for the creation of anamorphic 3D content, offering theoretical and methodological references for professionals working on similar contents.

3차원 차분 룩업 테이블을 이용한 실시간 색역 사상 기법 (Real-Time Color Gamut Mapping Method Based on the Three-Dimensional Difference Look-Up Table)

  • 본 논문에서는 실시간 색역 사상을 위한 3차원 룩업 테이블을 좀더 효과적으로 구현하기 위한 하드웨어 구조를 제시하였다. 기존의 해상도 절감 3차원 룩업 테이블에 대해서 기술하고 하드웨어의 구조를 간소화시킨 해상도 절감 3차원 차분 룩업 테이블의 개념을 소개한다. 새로 제안하는 3차원 차분 룩업 테이블의 경우 기존의 방법과 같이 3차원 룩업 테이블을 8개의 1차원 룩업 테이블로 분해하여 구성하며 색역 사상 규칙은 현재 입력 영상 값과 색역 사상된 출력 값과의 차분 값만을 저장시키고 삼차원 보간 이후에 최종적으로 덧셈기를 추가함으로써 구성한다. 이를 통하여 필요로 하는 하드웨어의 양을 더욱 감축시킬 수 있으며 기존의 방법에 비해서 좀 더 고속으로 구현이 가능하다. 새로 제안된 하드웨어 구조는 FPGA나 ASIC으로 쉽게 구성이 가능하며 실시간 화질 개선의 용도로 쉽게 적용이 가능하다.

  • This paper describes a three dimensional profile measurement method for sheet metal products which have flexible and porous sculptured surfaces. Shadow masks are used as measuring objects for practical implementation or this study. The shadow masks are located inside the fluorescent glasses of monitors for televisions or computers and used to prevent electron guns from interfering between pixels. Three dimen- sional surface profiles are measured by adopting a software autofocusing technique to capture focused images. The experimental results show that the method is very effecive and suitable for sheet meal prod- ucts with flexible and porous surfaces.

CAW(Computer-Aided Weaving) 시스템을 이용한 도비 직조디자인 연구 (A study on Dobby Weave Design using Computer-Aided Weaving System)

  • The purpose of this study was to research about Dobby weave design using Computer-Aided Weaving System. For performing this design study, first, it was researched the characteristics of the classified woven fabrics, weaving processing, structure of Dobby loom, and Computer-Aided Dobby Weaving system theoretically. To develop Dobby woven design, Patternland Weave Simulator(U.S.A) for computer weave system was used. Among the developed Dobby woven designs by computer weaving system, mainly three of them were selected and woven into Dobby loom. To see the visual image of the fabric end-use, some of the scanned Dobby fabrics were simulated to the three-dimensional virtual images by Alias CAD system. The result of this study can be summarized as follows. Before the step of weaving Dobby fabrics on the woven design works, Computer-Aided Weaving system can be done very easily to apply the design step of Dobby woven fabrics, specially in case of the complicated woven structure. Also the usage of the simulation CAD system in visual image of the final products, ultimately can be saved cost and developed the higher value-added goods in more response to consumer demands.
