  • We have isolated two new metabolites of territrem, designated as territrem $A'\;(TRA';\;C_{28}H_{30}O_{10})$ and $B'\;(TRB';\; C_{29}H_{34}O_{10})$ from chloroform extract of rice culture of Aspergillus terreus 23-1, using the same isolation procedure as that for territrem A, B and C(TRA, TRB, TRC). The present isolation procedure gave about 5 mg of TRA' and 10 mg of TRB' from 4 kg of rice culture per batch. Analysis of the high resolution mass spectrum showed that the molecular composition of TRA' and TRB' are $C_{28}H_{30}O_{10}$ and $C_{29}H_{34}O_{10}$ respectively, Some results of physicochemical properties were presented in this paper. Single crystal X-ray diffractometry of TRB' showed that the three dimensional structure of TRB' has not changed significantly from that of $TRB\;(C_{29}H_{34}O_9)$, except for the insertion of one oxygen atom into TRB to make additional pyran in the E-ring. It is also suggested that the aromatic moiety of TRA' is similar to that of $TRA\;(C_{28}H_{30}O_9)$ and the rest non-aromatic portions resemble to those of TRB'. The tremorgenic activity, lethality and inhibitory effect on acetylcholine esterase of TRA' and TRB' are greatly reduced comparing to that of TRA and TRB.

  • The current scenario of the transportation sector reflects the urgent need to address issues such as depletion of traditional fuel reserves and ever growing pollution levels. Researchers around the world are focussing on alternatives as well as optimisation of currently employed devices to reduce the pollution levels generated by the commonly used fuels. One such optimisation involves the study of air flow within the intake manifolds of SI engines. It is a well-known fact that alterations in the air manifolds of engines have a significant impact on the engine performance parameters, fuel consumption and emission levels. Previous works have demonstrated the impacts of runner lengths, diameter, plenum volume, taper angle of distribution manifolds and other factors on in-cylinder fluid motion and engine performance. However, a static setup provides an optimal configuration only at a specific engine speed. This paper aims to investigate the variations in the same parameters on a four stroke, naturally aspirated single cylinder SI engine through varying the cross section design over the intake runner with the aid of Computational Fluid Dynamics. The system consists of segments that form the intake runner with projections on the inside that allow various permutations of the intake runner segments. The various configurations provide the optimised fluid flow characteristics within the intake manifold at specific engine speed intervals. The variations such as turbulence, air fuel mixing are analysed using the three dimensional CFD software FLUENT. The results can be used further for developing an automated or manually adjustable intake manifold.

  • In this study, the structural safety of the bearing support was analysed by applying the vertical load (bearing design load) and horizontal load (horizontal force generated during an earthquake) using a precise three-dimensional numerical model. The results of stress and displacement of newly-poured concrete and welded rebars were confirmed numerically. Numerical results show that the increase in the horizontal force and the height of the beam causes the concrete cracking and the stress increase of the rebar connections due to the increase of the stress at the new concrete interface. Therefore, it was analyzed that the increase in the height of bearing support is directly related to the horizontal force and it is necessary to apply the bearing support height appropriate for the bearing support capacity. It was proposed that a method of setting the height of the bearing support suitable for the bearing capacity and determining the reinforcement by presenting the guideline with the correlation between the horizontal force acting on the bearing support and its height.

  • This study did a comparative analysis on the patterns of several male bodice slopers, followed by evaluating the appearance through a virtual garment simulation, which used a three-dimensional virtual garment system. Through this process, this study attempted to comparatively analyze the suitability of the garment or each sloper according to body parts. The analysis of the drawing formulas of bodices slopers had the following results. With a standard chest size, all six slopers had a 1:4 ratio for a front and back chest size; 1:5 or 1:6 for a front and back breast size 1:5 or 1:4 for a neck base circumference; and 1:20 or 1:12 for the chest size. When comparing the anthropometric figures and the actual measurements of each body part for the bodice slopers, the actual measurements secured extra amounts in the drawing process. The evaluation results for appearance of the six men's bodice slopers showed that the slopers used by companies (E and F) had top scores followed by the slopers made for (C and D), while the sloper for education (A) received the lowest scores. Regarding the results of the variance analysis verifying the significant difference between the slopers, twenty-five items had significant differences with the exception of four items on the front side and one item on the backside.

  • The three-dimensional precision numerical analysis was performed using the finite element model applied with the railway track model consisting of rails, sleepers, and track elastic springs(ballast, rail pad). As a result of analyzing the track deformation level of the existing tracks due to the excavation work adjacent to the railway facilities, it was found that the track irregularity evaluation criteria (allowed values) of both conventional and high-speed railways lines were satisfied. Based on the numerical analysis using the track model, it was analyzed that the results of the prediction of the track irregularity due to the excavation work and the level of the track deformation occurring at the actual site could be approximated as closely as possible.

  • We propose a method to search for similar images by using outline lines and viewpoints. In the first test, the three-dimensional image, which can't control the motion, has lower search accuracy than the static flat image. For the cause analysis, six specific tropical fish data were selected. We made a 3D graphics of tropical fishes of each kind, and we made 144 image outline lines with 12 stage viewpoints of top, bottom, left and right. Tropical fish by type were collected and sorted by time of search through similar search. Studies have shown that there are many unique viewpoints for each species of tropical fish. To increase the accuracy of the search, a User Interface was created to select the user's point of view. When the user selects the viewpoint of the image, a method of showing the result in consideration of the range of the related viewpoint is proposed.

  • Recently, the textile and fashion industry has adopted 3D printing technology, through which filaments are accumulated continuously in the form of sections to produce digitalized three-dimensional fashion products. Little research has been done regarding the consumer perspectives on 3D printed fashion product. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of consumer innovativeness, uniqueness, and perception factors on consumer attitudes and purchasing intentions for 3D printed fashion products. A questionnaire was given to consumers living in Seoul and Kyunggi, South Korea. The data obtained from the 159 completed questionnaires was analyzed by regression analysis, factor analysis, and Cronbach's alpha using SPSS 24.0. The results were as follows: First, consumer innovativeness and uniqueness, in descending order, positively affect the perceived social image. Consumer innovativeness positively affects perceived aesthetics and consumer uniqueness positively affects perceived novelty. Second, social image has a positive effect on consumer attitudes to 3D printed fashion products. Third, consumer attitude positively affects purchasing intentions towards 3D printed fashion products. Fourth, consumer innovativeness and uniqueness, in descending order, have a positive effect on consumer attitudes and purchasing intentions for 3D printed fashion products. Fifth, social image and novelty, in descending order, positively affect purchase intentions for 3D printed fashion products. Therefore fashion firms should develop their marketing strategy to focus on innovative, unique consumers as a main target and aim to enhance buyers' social image by using 3D printed fashion products.

  • Background/Objectives: This paper proposes a dual mode feedback-controlled cycling system for children with spastic cerebral palsy to rehabilitate upper extremities. Repetitive upper limb exercise in this therapy aims to both reduce and analyze the abnormal torque patterns of arm movements in three- dimensional space. Methods/Statistical analysis: We designed an exercycle robot which consists of a BLDC motor, a torque sensor, a bevel gear and bearings. Mechanical structures are customized for children of age between 7~13 years old and induces reaching and pulling task in a symmetric circulation. The shafts and external frames were designed and printed using 3D printer. While the child performs active/passive exercise, angular position, angular velocity, and relative torque of the pedal shaft are measured and displayed in real time. Findings: Experiment was designed to observe the features of a cerebral palsy child's exercise. Two children with bilateral spastic cerebral palsy participated in the experiment and conducted an active exercise at normal speed for 3 sets, 15 seconds for each. As the pedal reached 90 degrees and 270 degrees, the subject showed minimum torque, in which the child showed difficulty in the pulling task of the cycle. The passive exercise assisted the child to maintain a relatively constant torque while visually observing the movement patterns. Using two types of exercise enabled the child to overcome the abnormal torque measured in the active data by performing the passive exercise. Thus, this system has advantage not only in allowing the child to perform the difficult task, which may contribute in improving the muscle strength and endurance and reducing the spasticity but also provide customizable system according to the child's motion characteristic. Improvements/Applications: Further study is needed to observe how passive exercise influences the movement characteristics of an active motion and how customized experiment settings can optimize the effect of pediatric rehabilitation for spastic cerebral palsy.

  • We investigated the effect of transforming growth factor beta 1 ($TGF-{\beta}1$) on equine hyaluronan synthase 2 (HAS2) gene expression and hyaluronan (HA) synthesis in culture models of articular chondrocytes. Equine chondrocytes were treated with $TGF-{\beta}1$ at different concentrations and times in monolayer cultures. In three-dimensional cultures, chondrocyte-seeded gelatin scaffolds were cultured in chondrogenic media containing 10 ng/mL of $TGF-{\beta}1$. The amounts of HA in conditioned media and in scaffolds were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays. HAS2 mRNA expression was analyzed by semi-quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction. The uronic acid content and DNA content of the scaffolds were measured by using colorimetric and Hoechst 33258 assays, respectively. Cell proliferation was evaluated by using the alamarBlue assay. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), histology, and immunohistochemistry were used for microscopic analysis of the samples. The upregulation of HAS2 mRNA levels by $TGF-{\beta}1$ stimulation was dose and time dependent. $TGF-{\beta}1$ was shown to enhance HA and uronic acid content in the scaffolds. Cell proliferation and DNA content were significantly lower in $TGF-{\beta}1$ treatments. SEM and histological results revealed the formation of a cartilaginous-like extracellular matrix in the $TGF-{\beta}1$-treated scaffolds. Together, our results suggest that $TGF-{\beta}1$ has a stimulatory effect on equine chondrocytes, enhancing HA synthesis and promoting cartilage matrix generation.
