  • Goji berry (Lycium chinense Mill.) is one of medicinal plants. Its leaves has been used to manufacture the functional foods by replacing the dried-fruit because of low production costs. In order to produce the leaves of uniform quality, continuous selection and the establishment of cultivation techniques were required. Among the eleven recommended cultivars, 'Myeongan' showed high yielding and rapid regeneration after cutting. The dried-leaf yield was linearly increased from 106 kg/10a on May 16 to 287 kg/10a on June 20. An appropriate cutting date and cutting length (about 60-70 cm) was important factors for its efficient regeneration. The late cutting times were not suitable due to difficulties during plant harvesting because of stem rigidity and thorn generation. The betaine content of leaves ranged from 1.43 ~ 2.63% and significantly affected by the varieties and the cutting dates. The main physiological functionality of leaf was Angiotesin-1-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitory activity, representing the anti-hypertensive. The other physiological functionalities, XOD inhibitory activity, antioxidant activity, tyrosinase inhibitory activity, SOD-like activity, α-glucosidase inhibitory activity and fibrinolytic activity, were not detected or less than 20%.

  • This study approaches, from a floristic perspective, the under-researched human-primate competition for forest resources. Investigating the human impact on fruit trees edible for Kinda baboons (Papio kindae Lönnberg), we have collated dietary data on a free-ranging troop and floristic information on two forest sites of the Kundelungu National Park (KNP), Democratic Republic of Congo: the relatively intact Integral Zone (IZ) and the human-disturbed Annex Zone (AZ). Trees with DBH≥10 cm have been identified, counted and measured throughout 22 sample plots (11 per site), each measuring 1,000 ㎡. A total of seven woody species whose fruits are eaten by Kinda baboons were recorded. Four of them, namely the Sycamore fig Ficus sycomorus L., the Mobola plum Parinari curatellifolia Planch. ex Benth, the Kudu berry Pseudolachnostylis maprouneifolia Pax and the Monkey orange Strychnos innocua Delile were found in both sites, while the Large-leaved jackal-berry Diosyros kirkii Hiern and the Buffalo thorn Ziziphus mucronata Willd. were exclusively in the IZ, and Strychnos cocculoides Baker only in the AZ. Compared to the IZ, the AZ had lower values of stem density, species richness and diversity indices, suggesting a negative human impact on baboon-edible trees, in line with our hypothesis. Moreover, as was expected, human activities decreased the abundance of larger baboon-edible fruit trees. However, the size-class distribution of P. curatellifolia depicted a reverse J-curve in the AZ. The abundant younger P. curatellifolia trees remaining in that human-disturbed site constitute an important food stock for baboons, if well preserved. These results also illustrate the critical role of rangers' patrols, formerly more frequent (and presumably efficient) in the IZ than in the AZ of the Park. Their implications on baboons and miombo forests are discussed from both the research and conservation perspectives.

  • Presently, the performance level of the college student has received a great deal of attention, particularly in the area of professional education. The problem of under achievement, especially in areas dealing with science and technology, has gone through considerable investigation by numerous Psychologists and Educators. Thus for, however, they have not been successful in determining conclusively the non-intellectual factors involved. The maladjustment problem of these students has been a thorn in the side of nursing education for some time. This topic has been discussed among nursing educators without any tangible results. Furthermore, the fact that the number of students who withdraw from nursing education programs before graduation has increased. This represents a major problem for nursing education. This problem area had increased attention drawn to it on October 1957, when Russia successfully launched to first satellite "Sputnik" into space. Various studies seem to indicate that factors related to over achievement and under.achievement can be found in the motivation of the students. This study is aimed at testing 3 hypotheses which hopefully will lead to a better understanding of the learning activities of nursing students and to determine some of their nonintellectually personality traits. Hypothesis I: learning activities in nursing students and persona1ity are correlated, there will be significant differences in personality need structures between 4 classes of nursing collegiate students. Sub-hypothesis: There will also be significant differences in the degree of student satisfaction in her major subject. Hypothesis I: If there is a special personality need structure which is required for the clinical learning activity in general, then there will be significant differences between the personality need structures of under-achievers and overachiever. Hypothesis II : If each clinical nursing subject requires different personality need structures, then there will be differences in personality need structure between the different clinical groups Methodology: 1. Tool: A Korean translation and correction of the Edwards Personal Preference Schedule of U.S.A. was used. 2. Subject and Test Method: Subjects were nursing students at Yonsei University, who enrolled for Fall semester of 1971. The Researcher herself executed the test for the test for the class as a group, and the absent students were tested indidually. Out of 307 students, 293 students (95.4%) were reported. 3. Statistical treatment: The mean and standard deviation for each of the 15 personality need variables were computed and the value of T-test was obtained to determine the differences in the personality need structures between each group. Results: 1, For the first hypothesis, the personality need structures between each of the 4 classes and the reported degree of satisfaction in major subject showed significant differences. Therefore the hypothesis I was accepted. 2. The comparison of personality need structure of under-achievers and over-achievers in clinical fields showed significant differences. Thus hypothesis II was accepted. 3. Personality need structure between clinical subject groups showed significant differences therefore the 3rd hypothesis was accepted.

  • In this study, an experiment was conducted to develop a sunscreen with antioxidant effects by simultaneously investigating the antioxidant and UV protection capabilities of various plant extracts. First, to investigate the UV-blocking ability of 33 kinds of plant extracts, the absorbance spectrum between the UV wavelength of 280 to 400 nm was investigated. Arrowroot, graviola, wheat sprout, sangbaek skin, thorn meal, lacquer, etc. 11 species were selected. The total polyphenol content, total flavonoid content, and DPPH radical scavenging activity of the selected plant extracts are measured to examine the degree of antioxidant activity, and from this, it is a plant extract that has excellent UV protection and antioxidant activity at the same time. The species was selected. A gel-shaped cream is prepared by mixing the selected gold, hops, and licorice extracts in a ratio of 1:1:1, and the UV protection effect of this cream is measured when the cultured cells are irradiated with UV rays. Determined by the method. As a result of the study, it was confirmed that the selected mixture of plant extracts complemented each other in terms of ultraviolet absorption ability and increased cell damage protection effect. Through these results, it was confirmed that it was possible to develop a sunscreen with an antioxidant effect if the antioxidant and sunscreen capabilities of various plant extracts were determined at the same time.

  • Trypanorhych plerocercoids of Nybelinia surmenicola are described in the common squid, Todarodes pacificus, through the use of light and scanning electron microscopy. Upon dissection, out of 200 common squid from the Korean coastal water, 54 (27%) were found infected with N. surmenicola plerocercoids. Mean N. surmenicola abundance was 2.28 per squid. Body length and width ranged from $6.1-11.1(8.05){\times}2.0-2.2(2.1)mm$. Bothria are broad, bean-shaped, measured $2.4-2.8{\times}0.62-0.69(2.65{\times}0.64)mm$. The short and long tentacular armatures which are spirally arranged are homeoacanthous and homeomorphous uncinate hooks and consist of compact rose-thorn-shaped tentacular hooks. The tentacle sheaths are coiled in a spiral near the bulbs. Four large bothria are separated by filiform microtriches along the bothridal margins. This is the first description of the plerocercoids of N. surmenicola in the common of squid from the Korean coastal waters.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop an excellent salad dressing using grape seed oil, which contains high levels of unsaturated fatty acids. First, a vinaigrette was made with grape seed oil and vinegar and divided into five portions. Then, five types of mirepoix au maigre ($M_1,M_2,M_3,M_4,M_5$) were made with apple, onion, carrot, garlic, tomato puree, and tomato ketchup by mixing in a main material vessel. The samples were then allowed to ripen for three days. The control group $M_1$ was named $GD_1$, and the experimental groups $M_2,\;M_3,\;M_4,\;and\;M_5$ were named $GD_2,\;GD_3,\;GD_4,\;and\;GD_5$. respectively. To measure receptiveness, a sensory test was conducted using a 7 point category scale. The test concentrated on flavor, taste, color, agreeability, aftertaste, and overall acceptability: the panel consisted of 15 subjects According to the results, $GD_4$ had the best flavor, color and agreeability. The samples with the most preferred taste and aftertaste were $GD_4\;and\;GD_5$. Between $GD_4\;and\;GD_5$, there were no noticeable differences in taste, aftertaste, or overall acceptability, but differences in color and agreeability did exist. Thus, $GD_4$ proved to be the most favorable product. To determine the best complementing vegetables for $GD_4$ yam($VE_1$), broccoli sprouts($VE_2$), mustard leaves($VE_3$), beet leaves($VE_4$), cucumber($VE_5$), and lettuce(VE6) were selected as samples, and a sensory test was conducted. Each vegetable has its own peculiarities. According to the results, $VE_2$ had the nicest vegetable fragrance recording the highest mean value. The vegetable with the most preferred taste, aftertaste, and agreeability were $VE_2\;and\;VE_6$. $VE_1\;and\;VE_6$ had the nicest color and contained the brightest color as well. The highest overall acceptability was awarded to $VE_2\;and\;VE_6$ and there was no remarkable difference between thorn at a level of 0.05. In conclusion, $VE_2\;and\;VE_6$ were the best complementing vegetables with grape seed oil dressing. However, to commercialize such a dressing, many follow-up studies must be conducted.

  • In an proposed Context-Aware SOA(Service Oriented Architecture) based OSGi(Open Service Gateway initiative) platform, Service provider manages relative kinds of services in an integrative basis from various sensors, puts each service in a SOAP (Simple Object access Protocol) message, and register thorn to the UDDI(Universal Description Discovery and Integration) server of service registry, service requester retrivel the specified kinds of services and call them to service provider. Recently most context-aware technologies for ubiquitous home network are mainly putting emphasis on RFID/USN and location-based technology. Because of this, service-oriented architecture researches have not been made enough. Under the environment of an OSGi service platform, various context-aware services are dynamically mapping from various sensors, new services are being offered for the asking of users, and existing services are changing. Accordingly, the data sharing between services provided, management of service life cycle, and the facilitation of service distribution are needed. Taking into considering all these factors, this study has suggested an Context-Aware SOA based eclipse SOA Tools Platform using OSGi platform that can transaction throughtput of more than 546 TPS of distributional Little's Law from ATAM(Architecture Tradeoff Analysis Method) while remaining stable other condition.

  • This study was conducted with the aim of investigating the garden architectural characteristics of Villa d'Este, which occupies a major role in the exploration of the contrasting background, location, and spatial composition characteristics of Italian Renaissance gardens. The survey for the study was divided into a literature survey and a field survey, and the details are as follows. First, in the mid-to-late 16th century, the villa was built under the direction of Cardinal Ippolito d'Este, and afterwards, the ownership of the villa was restored to the Italian government in 1850 due to financial difficulties. The Villa d'Este, which suffered another damage, is now operated with many visitors after going through the restoration process. Second, in the case of location, it has the characteristics of Urbana located in the city center and has valley-type topographical conditions located at the foot of the mountain.Third, in the case of spatial composition, it is orthogonal to the axis, and each part of the garden is developed, influenced by the contrast principles such as the installation of the Cortile del Belvedere and Villa Madama in the early 16th century. The main building is located in the hills so that you can see the garden and the surrounding scenery at a glance. Fourth, among the components, there were stairs, logia, courtyard, and grotto, fountains, cascades, ponds, and vegetation such as laurels, thorn trees.

  • Orostachys species grow from anywhere in Korea. This variety, which lives in the harsh areas of the beach and mountains, is known to have as much change as it was isolated. It has been used as a medicine for a long time, and now the flower is beautiful and has been developed for horticulture. As a result of morphological characteristics and component analysis of three Orostachys species, the following results were obtained. 1. Orostachys species showed two types of leaves according to the growing environment. O. japonica (Maxim.) A. Berger and O. minuta (Kom.) A. Berger were lanceolate, and O. chongsunensis Y. N. Lee was obovate. 2. The leaves were all green. However, some of the O. japonica (Maxim.) A. Berger had white powder. Some of the O. minuta (Kom.) A. Berger was green with red spots on the back. O. chongsunensis Y. N. Lee showed strong gray before flowering but weak green when flowering. 3. The thorns of the leaves were O. japonica (Maxim.) A. Berger and O. minuta (Kom.), but O. chongsunensis Y. N. Lee was not. 4. Whether it was a leaf dot or not, there were dots in O. japonica (Maxim.) A. Berger and there were dots on the O. minuta (Kom.) and the O. chongsunensis Y. N. Lee. 5. The flowers were all white, and the stamens were red in O. japonica (Maxim.) A. Berger and O. minuta (Kom.) A. Berger and white in O. chongsunensis Y. N. Lee. 6. It was confirmed that the ingredients in Orostachys species contained kaempferol, quercetin, flavonoid etc., which have high antioxidant activity.
