The Effect of Science Writing Heuristic Laboratory Class on the Creative Thinking and Critical Thinking of Middle School Students (탐구적 과학 글쓰기 실험수업이 중학생들의 창의적 사고와 비판적 사고에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of Science Writing Heuristic (SWH) laboratory class on the creative thinking and critical thinking of middle school students. Science writing heuristic programs were developed based on SWH strategies developed by Keys et al (1999). This study was conducted on 63 students from two classes as the comparative group and 63 students from two other classes as the experimental group. The cognitive level of the group as a homogeneous group was similar, and the program was applied to a total of 18 periods based on nine topics from March to July 2011. Evaluation instruments used in pre-test and post-test were the creative and critical thinking tests. To consider the score for creative and critical thinking. the SPSS 20.0 program was used. The study made use of technical statistics and ANCOVA. The result of this study showed that creative problem solving skills were improved by SWH in laboratory class. Therefore, persistent presentation of SWH teaching strategies and developing various experiment topics are required.

Relation Analysis of High School Students' Abstract Thinking, Language Familiarity, and Academic Achievement on C and Scratch Program Understanding (C와 스크래치 프로그램 이해에 대한 고등학생의 추상적 사고, 언어친밀성, 학업성취도 관계 분석)

  • In computer education area, abstract thinking has played a positive role in programming ability, and language experience has also affected the ability. However, most of the studies were empirical. The practical research about the relation analysis between abstract thinking and programming ability has rarely been performed. Among various types of programming abilities such as coding, debugging, and reading, this paper focused on program understanding. We analyzed the affection relation on program understanding and the interaction effect between abstract thinking level and language familiarity. We surveyed 376 high school students on their abstract thinking levels, language familiarity, academic achievement, and the program understanding abilities of C and Scratch. From the research, we knew that the abstract thinking level played an important role in understanding the iterative program for the male students. In addition, if the students had the experience on other programming languages before entering high schools, then there was an interaction effect between abstract thinking level and program language familiarity.

Development and Application of the Educational Program to Increase High School Students' Systems Thinking Skills - Focus on Global Warming - (고등학생들의 시스템 사고 향상을 위한 교육프로그램 개발 및 적용 - 지구온난화를 중심으로 -)

  • The purposes of this study are: (1) to develop educational program designed to improve high school students' knowledge integration and their system thinking skills about global warming and (2) to identify the change of students' system thinking level. The developed program was implemented to twenty seven high school students, and six students grouped into three highs and three lows in their performance were selected to analyze their level of system thinking. The word association, casual map and drawing were used to measure and identify any significant change. As a result, the low level system thinking group improved their system thinking skills for global warming and the earth and sub-systems after the intervention. However, participants' misconception remained the same. And the high level systems thinking group showed more organize system thinking skills about a global warming topic. It is suggested that more educational programs be developed on various topics in order for high school students to improve their systems thinking skills as well as knowledge integration of earth systems and earth environment in school curriculum.

The Effects of the Six Thinking Hats Program on Environmentally Friendly Attitude and Environmental literacy in Elementary Science (육색사고모자기법을 적용한 토의활동 프로그램이 초등학생의 환경 친화적 태도 및 환경소양에 미치는 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of the elementary students' environmentally friendly attitude and environment literacy through Edward de Bono's Six Thinking Hats in science class. The objects of this study were the sixth grade of both an experimental class (25 students) and a comparative class (24 students) a the S elementary school science class located in Incheon city. The results of this study were as follows: First, the change of environmentally friendly attitude in the experimental group applying the six thinking hats program have statistically meaningful differences (p<.05). Second, the environmental literacy of the experimental group was improved somewhat, but it has no meaningful differences compared the other group statistically. Therefore, the six thinking hats program applied in this study might be useful to improve the students' environmentally friendly attitude in elementary school science class.

  • Despite the increasing rate of use of data science in various fields of society, research on data science education programs is relatively inadequate. In this study, a data science education program for elementary school students was developed and its effectiveness was verified. We created a program that collects data using microbit, one of the physical computing tools, and developed an education program that performs the data science stage of analyzing the collected data to derive results. A study was conducted on 10 students enrolled in the Information Gifted Program at 00 University, and pre- and post-tests of computing thinking skills were conducted to verify the effectiveness. As a result, it was found that the data science education program developed through this study has a significant effect on improving the computational thinking of elementary school students.

  • This study developed a program suitable for operating an infinite creative space within the public library, and analyzed the effect of promoting participants' creativity through a trial run of the program. To do this, we operated a "picture book making activities" program in the infinite creative space of J library located in Chungbuk. This program was performed for 18 elementary students in grades 3-6. Torrance TTCT (The Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking) tools were used in this study to measure the overall creativity. As a result, first, awareness of the importance and interest in environmental science was improved through the whole program process. Second, participants' problem-solving abilities improved during the program by having to derive a solution for a given problem through brainstorming. Third, storytelling ability improved after the story-creating elements of the program. Fourth, each participants' creativity was improved through creative activities. Fifth, by publishing the results of creative activities of participants as books, the self-esteem of participating children improved as well.

Effect of data science education program using spreadsheet on improvement of elementary school computational thinking (스프레드시트를 활용한 데이터 과학 교육 프로그램이 초등학생의 컴퓨팅 사고력 향상에 미치는 효과)

  • In this study, we developed a data science education program using spreadsheet, applied it after educational method to improve elementary school student 's Computational Thinking, and then verified its effect. Based on the results of preliminary requirement analysis conducted by Rossett's request analysis the educational program was developed based on the procedure of the ADDIE model which is the representative model of the teaching design based on the result of prior requirement analysis of 205 elementary school students and computer teaching major 20 incumbent elementary school teachers, applying Rossett's requirement analysis model. In order to verify the effect of the developed educational program, we are promoting 42 hours of lecture for a total of 6 days for 20 students of applicants who volunteered for volunteer votes of educational donation programs implemented at ${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$University, We analyzed the educational effect using the results of pre-post test. As a result of the analysis, we learned that the educational program developed in this study is effective for improving elementary school student 's Computational Thinking.

  • In this paper, we develop the thinking extension education program for the gifted students of information, and prove the validity and effectiveness of the proposed model by presenting the Tic-tac-toe problem as the practical example of the information-gifted students. This model consists of four phases which has the game tree as data structure and the search of game tree as control structure. And the search of game tree becomes the basis of the thinking extension education program. This model gives the help for students to learn representing the problem as tree structure and solving the problem of tree structure using the search method of game tree. The internal ability of the information-gifted for thinking extension of this education program contains the fluency, perceptiveness, originality, power of concentration, imaginative power, analyzing skills, pattern recognition, space sense, synthesizing, problem-solving.
