  • Eight types of thin composite panels were manufactured by press-lam and mat-forming process applied to optimum manufacturing condition, studied in former first research by author (1995). They were tested and compared with control boards on dimensional stability, internal bond strength, tensile strength, Screw withdrawal strength, and bending properties. These thin composite panels manufactured by mat-forming process were generally superior to those by press-lam in dimensional stability and mechanical properties. In the dimensional stability and mechanical properties of thin composite panels manufactured by mat-forming process, the thin composite panels (A and E type) composed of particle or sawdust core and veneer face with polyethylene film, were as good as those of common plywood (control board). Internal bond strength showed highest value in the thin composite panel(D type) which composed of particle core and polypropylene screen face with polyethylene film. The thin composite panels(G and H type) composed of sawdust or particle core and polypropylene screen face with polyethylene film by press-lam and mat-forming process, showed most highest value in dimensional stability and water absorption.

  • This study identified the aesthetic characteristics of the face description in late Joseon Dynasty beauty paintings. A total of 24 beauty paintings were selected as representative of the late Joseon Dynasty genre of painting works. The paintings were analyzed by the shape, color, and physiognomy of beauty trends from the components of women's faces expressed in the works of artists. The results of this study showed that the shape of the face components expressed a round, curved and thin line. Colors were expressed through Obang-sack (a traditional Korean color). Also the physiognomy of the late Joseon Dynasty's women was soft, wise, economical and brilliant. A round-forehead meant that economical and virtuous housekeeper, thin crescent shaped eyebrows denoted women of wisdom and excellent sensitivity. Single long thin eyelids and implied a women of longevity. A round curved nose were eager tobe a wise mother and a good wife. Small concave lips were desired eagerly by gentle and intelligent women. A curve face implied a subjective women of insight and good memory. In conclusion, the late Joseon Dynasty beauty paintings expressed a traditional Korean beauty face and a modern baby face. The data are useful for the aesthetic standards of modern through meaning of Korean traditional beauty.

  • A low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol testing device, structured with serial reflected face-to-face mirror (SRM) allowing spectrophotometry measurements, is presented. The spectrophotometry has been employed to measure the amount of light that a sample absorbs, but it generally should have had path length longer than 10 mm to secure enough sensitivity. Such requirement of path length has often been problematic in implementing a thin type of lab on a disc (LOD). We developed the SRM system which was implemented in a detection chamber with 1.4mm thickness, providing path length longer than 10mm, and thus straightforwardly being applicable to LOD as thin as a compact disc. The experimental results show that the SRM system gives not only a much thinner design compared to the conventional spectrophotometry-based LOD but also a comparable performance to already commercialized spectrometers.

  • We propose a novel direct writing technique with a femtosecond laser enabling selective modification of not only the morphology of conducting polymer thin films but also the orientation and alignment of the polymer crystal. Surface relief gratings resulting from photoexpansion on P3HT:PCBM and PEDOT:PSS thin films were fabricated by femtosecond laser direct writing. The photoexpansion was induced at laser fluence below the ablation threshold of the thin film. The morphology (size and shape) of photoexpansion could be quantitatively controlled by laser writing parameters such as focused beam size, writing speed, and laser fluence. GIWAX results showed that face-on P3HT crystals were largely increased in the photoexpansion in comparison with pristine region of the thin film. In addition, the face-on P3HTs in the photoexpansion were aligned with their orientation along the polarization of the laser. The micro-RAMAN spectra confirmed that neither chemical composition change nor the polymer chain breaking was observable after femtosecond laser irradiation. We believe that this laser direct writing technique opens a new door to the fabrication of more efficient OPVs via non-contact, toxic-free approach.

  • We have plenty of study of adults diseases, but not much has been said about children. 79 children who had visited in the weak children of Dongeui Oriental Medical Hospital from March, 2002 to October, 2002, were the respondents of the Weak Child Questionnaire. The results obtained were as follows: 1. Their symptoms have been observed with sequences of respiratory diseases, Digestive diseases, Psycho-neurological diseases. 2. Distribution of sex and ages : male 38 cases, female 41 cases. $0{\sim}6$ years 60 cases, $7{\sim}12$ years 17 cases, $13{\sim}18$ years 2 cases. 3. • To study the effects of foam core density and face-sheet thickness on the mechanical properties and failure modes of aluminum foam sandwich (AFS) beam, especially when the aluminum foam core is made in aluminum alloy and the face sheet thickness is less than 1.5 mm, three-point bending tests were investigated experimentally by using WDW-50E electronic universal tensile testing machine. Load-displacement curves were recorded to understand the mechanical response and photographs were taken to capture the deformation process of the composite structures. Results demonstrated that when foam core was combined with face-sheet thickness of 0.8 mm, its carrying capacity improved with the increase of core density. But when the thickness of face-sheet increased from 0.8 mm to 1.2 mm, result was opposite. For AFS with the same core density, their carrying capacity increased with the face-sheet thickness, but failure modes of thin face-sheet AFS were completely different from the thick face-sheet AFS. There were three failure modes in the present research: yield damage of both core and bottom face-sheet (Failure mode I), yield damage of foam core (Failure mode II), debonding between the adhesive interface (Failure mode III).

  • Purpose: Facial nerve injury is a rare but feared complication of face lift. Uncertainty as to the depth and vulnerability of the facial nerve in face lift dissection causes some surgeon, particularly novices, to dissect slowly. Excessively thin flaps can be made because of fear of nerve injury, contributing to skin slough. Methods: From September 1998 to February 2003, the authors operated on 34 aging face patients using classical face-lift. We had analysed about quantity of skin removal and degree of elevated flap. The authors have found quantity of skin removal was 1.5-2.0 cm, degree of elevated flap was 40-45 degree on average. Results: The authors performed preauricular pre-excision face-lift technique on 12 aging face patients from July 2003 to Feburary 2005 based on experienced surgery. This technique reduced fear of dissecting skin flap necrosis and facial nerve injury because of firmly attached pre-auricular skin removed in advance. Conclusions: We easily dissected SMAS without visual field disturbance, nerve damage and reduced operation time and bleeding loss compared to classical face-lift.

  • In this paper, the FEM(Finite Element Method) has been applied to understand the geometrical characteristics and to analyze the stress of a helical gear. The helical gear is simulated and analyzed by adding many thin spur gear with helix angles and twist angles. Helical gears with different helix angle and face width have been studied. The results show that the root fillet stress is increased proportionally to helix angle and face width. Namely, as the face width increases, root fillet stress decreases, and as helix angle gets bigger, root fillet stress increases.
