A numerical solution using finite difference method to evaluate the thermal buckling of simply supported FGM plate with variable thickness is presented in this research. First, the governing differential equation of thermal stability under uniform temperature through the plate thickness is derived. Then, the governing equation has been solved using finite difference method. After validating the presented numerical method with the analytical solution, the finite difference formulation has been extended in order to include variable thickness. The accuracy of the finite difference method for variable thickness plate has been also compared with the literature where a good agreement has been found. Furthermore, a parametric study has been conducted to analyze the effect of material and geometric parameters on the thermal buckling resistance of the FGM plates. It was found that the thickness variation affects isotropic plates a bit more than FGM plates.
The purpose of this study was to figure out the various characteristics of the thickness sensation among elements of tactile sensation using psychophysical method. Firstly, panel screening was processed to select sensitive thickness panel using the triangle test. As a result of discriminating the paper thickness difference from 1 to 4 pieces, the female students perceived the thickness difference more sensitively than the male students (p<.05). Secondly, JND (Just Noticeable Difference) was obtained at percentage of stimulus detection rate in order to detect the degree of thickness difference by psychophysical method. It was found that the difference threshold of the entire group was about 0.125mm, with male group being about 0.178mm and female group being about 0.095mm. Thirdly, Weber's law was used to find the minimum discrimination difference between the stimuli. The experiments were conducted by increasing the paper's base thickness from 1.950mm to 1.330mm, and it was found that the difference tendency increased when the size of the basic stimulus increased. At this time, the minimum discrimination difference increased, but the Weber' fraction was not proportional to the magnitude of the stimulus. The significance of this study was that sensory evaluation was applied to research in the fields of clothing science and it seems effective to further screen and train sensitive students as material discrimination experts.
Purpose: Most studies have reported that the abdominal muscle thickness differs according to gender but none of these studies reported a gender difference in the thickness of the multifidus and erector spine. The spinal alignment is affected by the left and right balance in the trunk muscle. The aim of this study was to identify the trunk muscle symmetry according to gender and the correlations of the trunk muscle thickness with spinal alignment. Methods: Forty three subjects(27 males and 16 females) were enrolled in this study. The trunk muscle thickness was measured by ultrasonography. The trunk muscle, which consisted of the rectus abdominis (RA), external oblique abdominis (EOA), internal oblique abdominis (IOA), transverse abdominis (TrA), erector spine (ES), and multifidus (MF), was measured. The spinal alignment was measured by Formetric-III 3D analysis. The dependent variables of the spinal alignment were the trunk imbalance, trunk inclination, lateral deviation, and surface rotation. Results: The muscle thickness of the EOA muscle increased more significantly in the right side than the left side (p<0.05). Each left and right difference in the muscle thickness between the male and female group showed a significant difference (p<0.05) except for the TrA thickness. Significant positive correlations were observed between the ES and lateral deviation and between the TrA with trunk imbalance. Conclusion: These results suggest that asymptomatic men have a greater trunk muscle thickness than women but there was no difference between the left and right in healthy adults. The trunk muscle thickness of ES, TrA is related by the spinal alignment.

To provide reflection diagnostical basic-data by ultrasonography intended for 38 male/female students used by ultrasound imaging system and dynamometer, compared the MVIC and muscle thickness take an accurate measurement of elbow flexor and knee extensor of thickness and MVIC, in confirmity with distinction of sex and then analysised of correlation in muscle thickness-MVIC, MVIC-weight, weight-muscle thickness, it shows statiscally significant difference MVIC and muscle thickness according to sex. Also there is a high interrelation between two. As well as it shows that there is a different between sex in the MVIC of same thickness and MVIC of same weight. This difference will be related with preportions of muscle fiber type in view of the results by preceded research, it needs to be prerequisite analysis of difference in sex with a great variety of ways hereafter.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to compare the muscle architecture of serratus anterior and lower trapezius using rehabilitative ultrasound imaging (RUSI) in affected and unaffected side of chronic stroke patients. METHODS: The participants were thirty five patients with stroke hemiplegia in this study. RUSI was used to measure the muscle thickness of the serratus anterior and lower trapezius muscles. We compared the muscle thickness according to affected side and sex, determined the reliability of the measurement image. Independent t-test, intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC) and standard error of measurement (SEM) were used for statistical analysis. RESULTS: Significant difference in muscle thickness of serratus anterior was observed between affected and unaffected side (p<.001). Muscle thickness according to gender showed a significant difference in unaffected side of serratus anterior (p<.05). Compare asymmetry ratio of serratus anterior and lower trapezius muscle thickness showed a significant difference (p<.001). ICC for intra-reliability was .944~.962 in serratus anterior and .873~.925 in lower trapezius muscle thickness, respectively. SEM was .001~.004 in serratus anterior and .002~.008 in lower trapezius muscle. CONCLUSION: This study, using RUSI, showed significant difference in muscle thickness of serratus anterior in affected and unaffected side of stroke patients. RUSI is a practical tool for measuring soft-tissue thickness in the scapular region muscle of stroke.
Purpose: In this study experiments were performed during 6 weeks with 40 adults, 20 subjects in the waist stabilization exercise with blood flow restriction group and 20 subjects in the waist stabilization exercise without blood flow restriction group, in order to determine the impact of waist stabilization exercise on White Area Index (WAI) followed by blood flow restriction. Methods: Thickness of external oblique abdominal muscle, internal oblique abdominal muscle, and transversus abdominis muscle, as well as density and WAI of external oblique abdominal muscle were measured, followed by performance of repeated ANOVA. Results: Significant difference in thickness of external oblique abdominal muscle according to periodical difference was observed between groups (p<0.05). Significant difference in thickness of internal oblique abdominal muscle and transversus abdominis muscle according to periodical difference was observed between groups (p<0.05). Significant difference in density and WAI of external oblique abdominal muscle according to periodical difference was observed between groups (p<0.05). Conclusion: In conclusion, significant difference was observed after waist stabilization exercise with blood flow restriction. These results can be used as basic data for future research on waist stabilization exercise and blood flow restriction exercise.
Background: The craniocervical flexion test (CCFT) was developed for the activation and endurance of deep cervical flexors. However, the muscle thickness and muscle thickness changing ratio of the sternocleidomastoid (SCM) and deep cervical flexor (DCF) muscles in subjects with and without forward head posture (FHP) have not been reported. Objects: To determine the difference in thickness of the SCM and DCF muscles and the difference in the muscle thickness changing ratio between SCM, DCF, and DCF/SCM 20 mmHg and DCF/SCM 30 mmHg between subjects with and without FHP. Methods: Thirty subjects with and without FHP were enrolled. The muscle thickness of the SCM and DCF was measured when maintained at a baseline pressure of 20 mmHg and a maximum pressure of 30 mmHg using a pressure biofeedback unit during the CCFT. Ultrasonography was used to capture images of SCM and DCF muscle thickness during the CCFT, which was calculated using the picture archiving and communication system (PACS). Results: We observed a significant difference within the pressure main effect between SCM and DCF at a baseline pressure of 20 mmHg and a maximum pressure of 30 mmHg (p < 0.05). However, there was no significant difference in the muscle thickness and muscle thickness changing ratio for SCM and DCF during CCFT between subjects with and without FHP. Conclusion: There was no significant difference in the muscle thickness recruitment pattern during CCFT in posture changes between subjects with and without FHP.
A three-dimensional Gaussian heat source model is modified to include the effects of the gap and thickness-difference for the laser keyhole welding. The gap of the butt joint influences the welding efficiency such that the melting area decreases linearly with the gap. When the different plate thickness is used such as the tailored blank welding, melting areas of the thick and thin plates are predicted by introducing the thickness-difference factor. The calculated results using the modified heat source show reasonably good agreements with the experimental results.
This study investigated, using the Orbscan II topography system, the influence of age and sex related changes on the corneal thickness and anterior corneal curvature, more specifically the fine structure of the cornea, in a Korean young population. The Orbscan II topography system is a computer-assisted slit-beam scanning technology that can map the anterior section of the cornea. The mean central corneal thickness of all subjects was $547.532{\pm}44.529\;{\mu}m$. There was no statistical difference (p>0.5) in the mean central corneal thickness between males and females. Sex and age related changes in the mean central corneal thickness had no specific statistical difference (P>0.5). There was a negative correlation between the anterior corneal curvature and the central corneal thickness in all subjects, except for the twenty year olds. However, the thickness relationship between the mean central corneal and the eight paracentral corneal thicknesses had strong statistical differences in all subjects. Also age and sex related changes in the central corneal thickness and the anterior corneal curvature in all subjects had no statistically significant difference, except from 20-26 years old (p>0.05). This information could be a suitable reference basis for future studies in the young population of Asia and for the development of examination tools for corneal refractive surgery.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine the distribution of the cornea thickness and intra ocular pressure Korean adult of 20 to 24 year old using the Pentacam and tonometer. Methods: The subjects of this study were 43 Korean adults with healthy eyes. Corneal thickness was measured with Pentacam device. The intra ocular pressure was measured with tonometer. Data was analyzed by means of the Pearson's correlation cofficient. P-values<0.001 were considered statistically significant. Results: Mean age of subjects was 20.41±0.86 years. The mean +/- intra ocular pressure of the right eye and left eye were 16.236±2.523mmHg and 16.971±1.992mmHg, respectively. The mean central corneal thickness of the right eye and left eye was 545.324±38.682㎛ and 547.442±33.778㎛, respectively. No significant difference in central corneal thickness was found between the right and left eyes. But, there was a statistically significant difference between central cornea thickness and peripheral cornea thickness around 4 mm of central cornea(p<0.001, Pearson's correlation). However there was no statistically significant difference between central cornea thickness and intra ocular pressure. Conclusion: The results of this study could be used as a clinical reference data for diagnosis and treatment of cornea in Korean adult.
