The total relaxed stress in annealing and the thermal strain/stress were obtained from the identification of the residual stress-free state using electronic speckle pattern interferometry (ESPI). The residual stress fields in case of both single and film/substrate systems were modeled using the thermo-elastic theory and the relationship between relaxed stresses and displacements. We mapped the surface residual stress fields on the indented bulk Cu and the 0.5 ${\mu}m$ Au film by ESPI. In indented Cu, the normal and shear residual stress are distributed over -1.7 GPa to 700 MPa and -800 GPa to 600 MPa respectively around the indented point and in deposited Au film on Si wafer, the tensile residual stress is uniformly distributed on the Au film from 500 MPa to 800 MPa. Also we measured the residual stress by the x-ray diffractometer (XRD) for the verification of above residual stress results by ESPI.
The wear behaviors of $Al_2O_3-40%TiO_2$ deposited on casting aluminum alloy(ASTM A356) by plasma spray against SiC ball have been investigated experimentally. Friction and wear tests are carried out at room temperature. The friction coefficient of $Al_2O_3-40%TiO_2$ coating is lower than that of pure $Al_2O_3$ coating(APS). It is found that low friction correspond to low wear and high friction to high wear in the experimental result. The thickness of $Al_2O_3-40%TiO_2$ coatings indicated the existence of the optimal coating thickness. It is found that a voids and porosities of coating surface result in the crack generated. As the tensile stresses in coating increased with the increased friction coefficient. The columnar grain of coating will be fractured to achieve the critical stress. It is found that the cohesive of splats and the porosity of surface play a role in wear characteristics. It is suggested that the mismatch of thermal expansion of substrate and coating play an important role in wear performance. Tensile and compressire under thermo-mechanical stress may be occurred by the mismatch between thermal expansion of substrate and coating. This crack propagation above interface is observed in SEM.
In this study, intermediate thermo-mechanical treated Al-2.0 wt%Li, and Al-2.0 wt%Li-1.2 wt%Cu-1.0 wt%Mg-0.12 wt%Zr alloys were tested in tension at $10^{\circ}C$ and elevated temperature(100, 200 and $300^{\circ}C$). The results are follows : The tensile strength of Al-Li-Cu-Mg-Zr alloy is the highest but the elongation of Al-Li alloy is the highest(106%) among the all alloys in tension at $300^{\circ}C$. The Portervin-LeChartlier effect is showed in AI-Li-Cu-Mg-Zr alloy at 10 and $100^{\circ}C$, because of tangled dislocation by Mg and Cu. In the true stress-strain curves of all alloy, the peaks of stress at $300^{\circ}C$ are showed at the strain less than 0.1. In the binary alloy, the dynamic restoration process at 200 and $300^{\circ}C$ is nearly similar to dynamic recovery type. The hot deformation stress is decreased with increase of dynamic recovery degree, but the elongation is increased. When the strain the strain rate are constant, the temperature dependence of hot deformation stress is increased with increase of deformation temperature. The elongation and degree of dynamic recovery are decreased with increase of hot deformation activation energy, but the deformation stresses slightly increased.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the residual stresses at the multi-pass FCA weldment using the finite element analysis (FEA). In order to do it, an H-type specimen was selected as a test specimen. The variable used was in-plane restraint intensity. The temperature distribution at the multi-pass FCA butt weldment was evaluated in accordance with the relevant guidance recommended by the KWJS. The effective conductivity for the weld metal corresponding to each welding pass was introduced to control the maximum temperature below the vaporization temperature of weld metal. The heat flux caused by welding arc was assumed to be applied to the weld metal corresponding to welding pass. With heat transfer analysis results, the distribution of transverse residual stresses was evaluated using the thermo-mechanical analysis and compared with the measured results by XRD and uniaxial strain gage. In thermo-mechanical analysis, the plastic strain resetting at the temperature above melting temperature of $1450^{\circ}C$ was considered and the weld metal and base metal was assumed to be bilinear kinematics hardening continuum. According to the comparison between FEA and experiment, transverse residual stresses at the multi-pass FCA butt weldment obtained by FEA had a good agreement with the measured results, regardless of in-plane rigidity. Based on the results, it was concluded that thermo-mechanical FE analysis based on temperature distribution calculated in accordance with the KWJS’s guidance could be used as a tool to predict the distribution of residual stress of the multi-pass FCA butt weldment.
In the present paper a transient three-dimensional thermo-mechanical model for concrete is presented. For given boundary conditions, temperature distribution is calculated by employing a three-dimensional transient thermal finite element analysis. Thermal properties of concrete are assumed to be constant and independent of the stress-strain distribution. In the thermo-mechanical model for concrete the total strain tensor is decomposed into pure mechanical strain, free thermal strain and load induced thermal strain. The mechanical strain is calculated by using temperature dependent microplane model for concrete (O$\check{z}$bolt, et al. 2001). The dependency of the macroscopic concrete properties (Young's modulus, tensile and compressive strengths and fracture energy) on temperature is based on the available experimental database. The stress independent free thermal strain is calculated according to the proposal of Nielsen, et al. (2001). The load induced thermal strain is obtained by employing the biparabolic model, which was recently proposed by Nielsen, et al. (2004). It is assumed that the total load induced thermal strain is irrecoverable, i.e., creep component is neglected. The model is implemented into a three-dimensional FE code. The performance of headed stud anchors exposed to fire was studied. Three-dimensional transient thermal FE analysis was carried out for three embedment depths and for four thermal loading histories. The results of the analysis show that the resistance of anchors can be significantly reduced if they are exposed to fire. The largest reduction of the load capacity was obtained for anchors with relatively small embedment depths. The numerical results agree well with the available experimental evidence.
Excessively elevated temperature can lead to cracks in prestressed concrete (PC) continuous bridge with box girder on the pier top at cement hydration age. This paper presents a case study for evaluating the behavior of PC box girder during the early hydration age using a two-stage computational model, in the form of computer program ANSYS, namely, 3-D temperature evaluation and determination of mechanical response in PC box girders. A numerical model considering time-dependent wind speed and ambient temperature in ANSYS for tracing the thermal and mechanical response of box girder is developed. The predicted results were compared to show good agreement with the measured data from the PC box girder of the Zhaoshi Bridge in China. Then, based on the validated numerical model three parameters were incorporated to analyze the evolution of the temperature and stress within box girder caused by cement hydration heat. The results of case study indicate that the wind speed can change the degradation history of temperature and stress and reduce peak value of them. The initial casting temperature of concrete is the most significant parameter which controls cracking of PC box girder on pier top at cement hydration age. Increasing the curing temperature is detrimental to prevent cracking.
This paper is concerned with the thermo-mechanical behavior of steel sheet for an auto-body including temperature dependent strain rate sensitivity. In order to identify the temperature-dependent strain rate sensitivity of SPRC35R, SPRC45E and TRIP60, uniaxial tensile tests are performed with the variation of the strain rates from 0.001/sec to 200/sec and the variation of environmental temperatures from $-40^{\circ}C$ to $200^{\circ}C$. The thermo-mechanical response at the quasi-static state is obtained from the static tensile test and that at the intermediate strain rate is obtained from the high speed tensile test. Experimental results show that the variation of the flow stress and fracture elongation becomes sensitive to the temperature as the strain rate increases. It is observed that the dynamic strain aging occurs with TRIP60 at the temperature above $150^{\circ}C$. Results also indicate that the flow stress and tincture elongation of SPRC35R are more dependent on the changes of strain rates and temperature than those of SPRC45E and TRIP60.

Dynamic behavior of temperature-dependent Reddy functionally graded (RFG) nanobeam subjected to thermomagnetic effects under the action of moving point load is carried out in the present work. Both symmetric and sigmoid functionally graded material distributions throughout the beam thickness are considered. To consider the significance of strain-stress gradient field, a material length scale parameter (LSP) is introduced while the significance of nonlocal elastic stress field is considered by introducing a nonlocal parameter (NP). In the framework of the nonlocal strain gradient theory (NSGT), the dynamic equations of motion are derived through Hamilton's principle. Navier approach is employed to solve the resulting equations of motion of the functionally graded (FG) nanoscale beam. The developed model is verified and compared with the available previous results and good agreement is observed. Effects of through-thickness variation of FG material distribution, beam aspect ratio, temperature variation, and magnetic field as well as the size-dependent parameters on the dynamic behavior are investigated. Introduction of the magnetic effect creates a hardening effect; therefore, higher values of natural frequencies are obtained while smaller values of the transverse deflections are produced. The obtained results can be useful as reference solutions for future dynamic and control analysis of FG nanobeams reinforced nanocomposites under thermomagnetic effects.
Generally, analytical consideration on the behaviour of metallic structures during quenching process, and analysis on the thermal stress and deformation after heat treatment are very important in presumption of crack and distorsion of quenched material. In this study a set of constitute equations relevant to the analysis of thermo elasto-viscoplastic materials with strain hysteresis during quenching process way presented on the basis of contimuum thermo-dynamics mechanics. The thermal stresses were numerically calculated by finite element technique of weighted residual method and the principle of virtual work. In the calculation process, the temperature depandency of physical and mechaniclal properties of the material in consideration. On the distribution of elasto-viscoplastic thermal stresses according to radial direction, axial and tangential stress are tensile stress(50MPa, 1.5GPa and 300MPa) in surface and compressive stress(-1.2GPa, -1.14GPa and -750MPa) in the inner part on the other hand, radial stress is tensile stress(900MPa) in area of analysis. According to axial direction, tangential stress gradients are average 60MPa/mm on the whole. The reversion of stress takes place at 11.5 to 16.8mm from the center in area of analysing.
Previous works about the cylindrical shape elastic body which is under longitudinal temperature distribution mostly show the results of free expansion, therefore exact thermo-elastic analysis is needed. The object of this work is to analyze the thermo-elastic problem of the hollow cylinder when the cylinder is under longitudinal temperature distribution. In this paper, the analytical solution is found by using Galerkin vector, and it is compared by the results of FEM. For displacements of cylinder, analytical values are almost same as the results of FEM, but free expansion is not fit for analytical solution and the results of FEM. stresses from analytical solution and the results of FEM show good agreement also. but the results are different near the end boundary, since St. Venant principle is applied.
