In this study, dynamic characteristics analysis of AC system is investigated using a cool thermal storage system. A analysing program for cool thermal storage AC system is developed. The performances are studied by several variables and dynamic characteristics. Comparing the result at conventional operation condition with that at the condition using ice storage system, this study showed the effects of the sub cooled degree, superheated degree, efficiency of compressor and evaporating temperature. At the condition using thermal storage system, the thermal storage process was operated during midnight being not needed the cooling of the AC unit through the continuous running of the condenser. The refrigerant was sub-cooled using stored energy after being discharged from the air source condenser during the daytime. The COP was increased owing to the sub-cooling of refrigerant during daytime, thus the power consumption was effectively decreased.

The superconducting NMR magnets have used cryogen such as liquid helium for their cooling. The conduction cooling method using cryocoolers, however, makes the cryogenic cooling system for NMR magnets more compact and user-friendly than the cryogen cooling method. This paper describes the thermal and structural analysis of a cryogenic conduction cooling system for a 400 MHz HTS NMR magnet, focusing on the magnet assembly. The highly thermo-conductive cooling plates between HTS double pancake coils are used to transfer the heat generated in coils, namely Joule heating at lap splice joints, to thermal link blocks and finally the cryocooler. The conduction cooling structure of the HTS magnet assembly preliminarily designed is verified by thermal and structural analysis. The orthotropic thermal properties of the HTS coil, thermal contact resistance and radiation heat load are considered in the thermal analysis. The thermal analysis confirms the uniform temperature distribution for the present thermal design of the NMR magnet within 0.2 K. The mechanical stress and the displacement by the electromagnetic force and the thermal contraction are checked to verify structural stability. The structural analysis indicates that the mechanical stress on each component of the magnet is less than its material yield strength and the displacement is acceptable in comparison with the magnet dimension.
A high-resolution camera is a precise optical system. Its vibrations during transportation and launch, together with changes in temperature and gravity field in orbit, lead to different degrees of defocus of the camera. Thermal refocusing is one of the solutions to the problems related to in-orbit defocusing, but there are few relevant thermal refocusing mathematical models for systematic analysis and research. Therefore, to further research thermal refocusing systems by using the development of a high-resolution micro-nano satellite (CX6-02) super-resolution camera as an example, we established a thermal refocusing mathematical model based on the thermal elasticity theory on the basis of the secondary mirror position. The detailed design of the thermal refocusing system was carried out under the guidance of the mathematical model. Through optical-mechanical-thermal integration analysis and Zernike polynomial calculation, we found that the data error obtained was about 1%, and deformation in the secondary mirror surface conformed to the optical index, indicating the accuracy and reliability of the thermal refocusing mathematical model. In the final ground test, the thermal vacuum experimental verification data and in-orbit imaging results showed that the thermal refocusing system is consistent with the experimental data, and the performance is stable, which provides theoretical and technical support for the future development of a thermal refocusing space camera.
Nowadays, the thermal environments of classrooms are usually adjusted by the ceiling type air-conditioning system with a temperature sensor installed on inlet of an air-conditioner. However, it is not clear that the conventional temperature sensor position is proper to satisfy both thermal comport and energy saving in summer especially. Therefore, this study is aimed at finding out the best position of the temperature sensor on the purpose of the comfort thermal environment and energy saving. The different 5 positions for the temperature sensor are supposed in this paper to analyze thermal environment by CFD. From the analysis through the CFD simulations, the best position of the temperature sensor satisfying for both comfort thermal environment and energy saving is obtained.

The present study concerns the numerical simulation of a supply airflow control in a variable air volume (VAY) system. A stratified thermal model (multi-zone model) is suggested to predict a local thermal response of an air-conditioned space. The effects of various thermal parameters such as the cooling system capacity, the thermal mass of an air-conditioned space, the time delay of thermal effect, and the building envelope heat transmission are investigated. Further, the influence of control parameters such as the supply air temperature, the PI control factor and the thermostat location on a VAV system is quantitatively delineated. The results obtained show that the previous homogeneous lumped thermal model (single zone model) may overestimate the time taken to the set point temperature. It is also found that there exist the appropriate ranges of the control parameters for the optimal airflow control of the VAV system.
In a number of industries, porous insulations have been frequently used, reducing thermal insulation space through excellent performance of the thermal insulation's characteristics. This paper suggests an effective thermal conductivity prediction model. Firstly, we perform a literature review of traditional effective thermal conductivity prediction models and compare each model with experimental heat transfer results. Furthermore, this research defines the effectiveness of thermal conductivity prediction models using experimental heat transfer results and the Zehner-Schlunder model. The newly defined effective thermal conductivity prediction model has been verified to better predict performance than other models. Finally, this research performs a transient heat transfer analysis of a thermal protection system with a porous insulation in a high speed vehicle using the finite element method and confirms the validity of the effective thermal conductivity prediction model.

The thermal analysis of electronic equipment is required to predict the reliability of electronic equipment being loaded on a satellite. The transient heat transfer of electronic equipment that was developed recently has been generated using a large-scale integration circuit. If there is a transient heat transfer between EEE(Electric, Electronic and Electro mechanical) parts, it may lead to failure the satellite mission. In this study, we performed the thermal design and analysis for reliability of APD(Antenna Pointing Driver) electronics for activation of a spaceborne X-band 2-axis antenna. The EEE parts were designed using a thermal mathematical model without the thermal mitigation element. In addition, thermal analysis was performed based on the worst case for verifying the reliability of EEE parts. For the thermal analysis results, the thermal stability of electronic equipment has been demonstrated by satisfying the de-rating junction temperature.

The present study investigated temperature and thermal stress distributions in a film cooling system with normal injection cooling flow. 3D-numerical simulations using the FEM commercial code ANSYS were conducted to calculate distributions of temperature and thermal stresses. In the simulations, the surface boundary conditions used the surface heat transfer coefficients and adiabatic wall temperature which were converted from the Sherwood numbers and impermeable wall effectiveness obtained from previous mass transfer experiments. As a result, the temperature gradients, in contrast to the adiabatic wall temperature, were generated by conduction between the hot and cold regions in the film cooling system. The gradient magnitudes were about 10~20K in the y-axis (spanwise) direction and about 50~60K in the x-axis (streamwise) direction. The high thermal stresses resulting from this temperature distribution appeared in the side regions of holes. These locations were similar to those of thermal cracks in actual gas turbines. Thus, this thermal analysis can apply to a thermal design of film cooling holes to prevent or reduce thermal stresses.

A high-resolution electro-optical camera system, EOS-C, is under development in Satrec Initiative. This system is the mission payload of a 400-kg Earth observation satellite. We designed this system to give improved opto-mechanical and thermal performance compared with a similar camera system to be flown on the DubaiSat-1 system. The thermal control subsystem (TCS) of the EOS-C system uses heaters to meet the opto-mechanical requirements during in-orbit operation and it uses different thermal coating materials and multi-layer insulation (MLI) blankets to minimize the heater power consumption. We performed its thermal analysis for the mission orbit using a thermal analysis model and the result shows that its TCS satisfies the design requirements.

This paper presents the thermal characteristics analysis of a high-speed HMC spindle system with angular contact ball bearings, built-in motor, oil-jet lubrication method, oil jacket cooling method, and so on. The spindle system is composed of the main spindle and sub-spindle which are mechanically connected by a flexible coupling. The spindles are supported by two front and rear bearings, and the built-in motor is located between the front and rear bearings of the sub-spindle. The thermal analysis model of spindle system is constructed by the finite element method, and the thermal characteristics in the design stage are estimated based on temperature distribution, heat flow and thermal deformation under the various testing conditions related to material of bearing ball, spindle speed and coolant temperature.
