While effects of the atmospheric boundary layer flow on engineering infrastructure are more or less known, some local transient winds create difficulties for structures, traffic and human activities. Hence, further research is required to fully elucidate flow characteristics of some of those very unique local winds. In this study, important characteristics of observed vertical velocity profiles along the main wind direction for the gusty Bora wind blowing along the eastern Adriatic coast are presented. Commonly used empirical power-law and the logarithmic-law profiles are compared against unique 3-level high-frequency Bora measurements. The experimental data agree well with the power-law and logarithmic-law approximations. An interesting feature observed is a decrease in the power-law exponent and aerodynamic surface roughness length, and an increase in friction velocity with increasing Bora wind velocity. This indicates an urban-like velocity profile for smaller wind velocities and rural-like velocity profile for larger wind velocities, which is due to a stronger increase in absolute velocity at each of the heights observed as compared to the respective velocity gradient (difference in average velocity among two different heights). The trends observed are similar during both the day and night. The thermal stratification is near neutral due to a strong mechanical mixing. The differences in aerodynamic surface roughness length are negligible for different time averaging periods when using the median. For the friction velocity, the arithmetic mean proved to be independent of the time record length, while for the power-law exponent both the arithmetic mean and the median are not influenced by the time averaging period. Another issue is a large difference in aerodynamic surface roughness length when calculating using the arithmetic mean and the median. This indicates that the more robust median is a more suitable parameter to determine the aerodynamic surface roughness length than the arithmetic mean value. Variations in velocity profiles at the same site during different wind periods are interesting because, in the engineering community, it has been commonly accepted that the aerodynamic characteristics at a particular site remain the same during various wind regimes.
Sample frying oil was manufactured from simple mixing treatment of capsicum. butter flavor and silicone resin. the amount were 0.20, 0.15% ($\omega$/$\omega$) and 10 rpm in soybean oil, respectively. This frying oil was confirmed to improving of heat stability as well as removal effect of meat flavor. Frying oil obtained from treatment of capsicum and silicone resin was appeared, acid value and smoke point were 0.301, 232$\^{C}$, than its value in the non-treated soybean oil were 0.385. 220$\^{C}$, respectively, in the case of continuous frying at 185$\pm$2$\^{C}$. These effects were likely to according both anti-oxidation effect of capsicum and inhibition of free fatty acids and smoke production from anti-expansion of surface area in frying oil. Meat flavor and burnt flavor of oil in the frying oil and fried foods were weakened by treating of butter flavor(0.15%, $\omega$/$\omega$), this effect will be produced to new type\`s frying oil product.

This study investigates fire-retardant performances and combustion/thermal characteristics of fire-retardant treated wood by comparing them with those of fire-retardant untreated wood from the expreimental resutls of cone calorimeter and thermo-gravimetric(TG) analyzer. Hazardousness of combustion product gases for fire-retardant treated wood and untreasted wood were also observed from the results of internal finish material incombustibility test according to the Korea standard code of KS F 2271. In this study, we also tried to improve the fire retardant performance of wood by applying fire-retardant chemical composites, and to secure the fire safety performance in buildings. Red pine (Pinus densiflora) was selected as a test specimen because it is mostly used as a building material in Korea. Fire retardant chemical composites (FRCs) were prepared by mixing boron, phosphorous, and nitrogen species and treated by press-impregnation method. Water-based FRCs were composed of 3% boric acid($H_3BO_3$), 3% borax decahydrate($Na_2B_4O_7$), 8% ammonium carbonate($(NH_4)_2CO_3$), diammonium phosphate ($(NH_4)_2HPO_4$) varied from 10-30% and potassium carbonate($K_2CO_3$) varied from 10-30%. From the test results of cone calorimeter, TG analysis and gas hazard assessments, newly proposed were the optimal composition and production methods of FRCs which can sufficiently meet fire-retardant level 3 based on Korea law of construction. Thus, the FRCs, developed in this study, are anticipated to contribute to the improvement of fire safety and widespread of usage in wood as building materials.

Influence of mixing ratio of blending oil (rice bran oil : RBD palm olein = 1 : 1, 1 : 4 mixture: w/w) and natural tocopherol, citric acid, and sodium polyphosphate on enhancement of oxidation stability of blending oil under the condition of tap water infulx(1 ml/min/200g oil) were compared by AOM test after heating these system at l80$^{\circ}C$. In addition, the effects of tocopherol, and synergist on oxidition stability were also tested with potato chips fried with blending oil(1 : 4 mixture). The result obtained were as followes; 1. The test of RBD palm olein addition of 50% and 80% against rice bran oil on oxidation stability showed that the higher the palm olein contents in blending oil, the higher the oxidation stability. 2. The test of oxidation stability, adding l00ppm, 200ppm and 400ppm of natural tocopherol in two different types of blending oils, A(1 : 1 mixture) and B(1 : 4 mixture), disclosed that blending oil B was more positively effective, and this trend was superior at 200ppm level particularly, Furthermore, oxidation stability was enhanced remarkably upon addition of 100ppm of natural tocopherol, and 50ppm of citric acid together with 50ppm, 100ppm and 200ppm of sodium polyphosphate in general. Especially, 200ppm of sodium polyphosphate addition induced the most synergetic effect on oxidation stability showing as much as 3 times compare to control. 3. The results of oxidation stability obtained by peroxide value on potato chips fried with blending oil (1:4 mixture} added tocopherol, citric acid and sodium polyphosphate and preserved at $60^{\circ}C$ revealed that addition of tocopherol and 50ppm of citric acid together with 200ppm of sodium polyphosphate treatment was the most synergistic coinciding with AOM test results.

Stainless steel is widely known to have superior corrosion properties. However, in some harsh conditions it still suffers various kinds of corrosions such as galvanic corrosion, pitting corrosion, intergranular corrosion, chloride stress corrosion cracking, and etc. For the corrosion protection of stainless steel, the ceramic coatings such as protective silica film can be used. The sol-gel coating technique for the silica film has been extensively studied especially because of the cost effectiveness. It has been proved that silica can improve the oxidation and the acidic corrosion resistance of metal surface in a wide range of temperatures due to its high heat and chemical resistance. However, in the sol-gel coating process there used to engage a heat treatment at an elevated temperature like $500^{\circ}C{\sim}600^{\circ}C$ where cracks in the silica film would be formed because of the thermal expansion mismatch with the metal. The cracks and pores of the film would deteriorate the corrosion resistance. When the heat treatment temperature is reduced while keeping the adhesion and the density of the film, it could possibly give the enhanced corrosion resistance. In this respect, inorganic protective silica film was tried on the surface of stainless steel using a sol-gel chemical route where silica nanoparticles, tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) and methyltriethoxysilane (MTES) were used. Silica nanoparticles with different sizes were mixed and then the film was deposited on the stainless steel substrate. It was intended by mixing the small and the large particles at the same time a sufficient consolidation of the film is possible because of the high surface activity of the small nanoparticles and a modest silica film is obtained with a low temperature heat treatment at as low as $200^{\circ}C$. The prepared film showed enhanced adhesion when compared with a silica film without nanoparticle addition. The films also showed improved protect ability against corrosion.
Multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWNT) reinforced poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) composites are studied. To increase the interfacial interactions between PET and MWNTs, the MWNTs are functionalized with bishydroxy-ethylene-terephthalate (BHET). The functionalized MWNTs are melt blended into PET matrix using a twin screw extruder. The amount of MWNTs loaded in PET matrix ranges from 0.5 to 2.0 wt%. After compounding and spinning, the filaments are post-drawn and annealed. To verify the chemical modifications of carbon nanotubes, Raman, $^1H$ NMR, XPS, TGA and FE-SEM are used. The nanocomposites are also analyzed with DSC, TGA, and UTM. These tests show that crystallization temperature and thermal degradation temperature increase due to the functionalized MWNTs. Also, tensile test shows that yield strength and toughness increase more than 30% with addition of only 1 wt% of MWNTs. These results show that the introduction of BHET onto the MWNTs is a very effective way in manufacturing MWNT/PET composite.
In this study, polysulfone was carboxylated(CPSf), as a method of introducing carboxyl group to polymer main chain using direct lithiation reaction. Then, poly(1-alkyl-4-vinylpyridinium iodide-co-divinylbenzene) (MeVpI-DVB) containing pyridinium cation which has an anion selectivity as a fixed carrier was synthesized. And polymer membranes were prepared by mixing CPSf and MeVpI-DVB. Characteristics and permeation of membranes were investigated. As a result of synthesizing CPSf/MeVpI-DVB, blend was formed, not new copolymer. As the content of CPSf amount increasing, thermal stability of membranes was increasing. Ion exchange capacity was 1.0~1.8(meq/g dry mem.) and water content was 0.16~0.26(g $H_2{O}$)/g dry mem.) and fixed ion concentration was 6.4~7.3(meq/g $H_2{O}$) in synthetic membranes. The $Cl^-$ flux showed an increase due to the increase of CPSf content.
The artificial aeration in the middle and the small scale reservoirs is widely used to destroy the stratified layer and algal boom. This study has been conducted at the Youncho reservoir located in Keoje island since Jan. 2000 to suggest the most suitable control strategy of the artificial aeration and reduce the side effect. The main results obtained from this research are as follows. The starting time of aeration for destratification was adjusted from the end of March to the beginning of April when the natural stratification is started. In order to prevent an anoxic condition the artificial mixing should be started by the middle of April when the DO in hypolimnion is dropped to less than $5mg/{\ell}$. The decrease DO, caused by the increase in water temperature, spreads rapidly from hypolimnion to themocline. Thermal stratification disappeared after the onset of artificial aeration within 7 days in the Yuncho reservoir. The air diffusers decrease water temperature in the layer of epilimnion and thermocline, but rise it in hypolimnion. The continuous operation of air diffuser prevent the stratification and anoxic condition in hypolimnion despite of the rising of water temperature and algal abundance. The algal abundance is not observed in effective zone by aeration. The turbidity rising problem induced from the aeration is avoided by keeping an air diffuser about 1.5m high from the bottom of lake. During the summer season, ceasing the aeration should be decided carefully. And also, it is necessary to operate the system it considering weather and temperature, and depending on the number and the position of aerators.
${\gamma}$-Glycidoxy propyl trimethoxy slilane, CTBN rubber(carboxyl terminated butadiene acrylonitrile rubber) and GMA(glycidyl methacrylate) were reacted with the surface of silica one by one in existence of TEA(triethylamine) or BPO(benzoyl peroxide). The amount of reactant was 2.5~5.8% of treated silica weight. The treated silica was mixed with epoxy resin and MTHPA(methyltetrahydrophthalic anhydride) in the range of 0~60% (wt. %) of total component. The flexural and thermal properties were tested for cured products. In filler content 35~55%, the using of silica treated with silane/rubber or silane/rubber/vinyl represented 25% higher flexural strength, 5% lower flexural modulus and 13% higher than mixing liquid rubber 3% with epoxy resin containing untreated silica.

Measurements of local CO, $CO_2$, $O_2$, $N_2$, $C_3$H$_{8}$, NOx concentrations and flame temperature are made for partially premixed flame with and without acoustic excitation. The CO, $CO_2$, $O_2$, $N_2$, and $C$_3$H_8$ concentrations are determined by thermal conductivity detection (Gas-chromatograph) and NOx concentrations are determined by chemiluminescent detection (NOx analyser). To measure local sample concentration, sampling probe was made by quartz with inlet diameter of 0.25mm. In the case of excitation, the visual shape of the flame is changed from laminar flame to turbulent-like flame. The flame length is also reduced, and the flame width becomes broad. In the observation of emission concentration without acoustic excitation, meanwhile, the $CO_2$ and NOx concentrations peak at flame front where the mixture meets with surrounding air, and the CO concentration is increasing at maximum position of CO2 concentration and peaks at the centerline of the burner. In the case of acoustic excitation, the $CO_2$ concentration is widely occurred at nozzle of the burner and is higher relative to unexcitation. The CO concentration is much reduced, but NOx concentration is more increasing. And flame temperature is higher relative to unexcitation. These are caused by enhancing of mixing with surrounding air due to excitation. However, in the case of acoustic excitation, the total NOx concentration is reduced because of the shortened flame length which affects residence time.e.
