In solar cell module manufacturing, single solar cells has to be joined electrically to strings. Copper stripes coated with tin-silver-copper alloy are joined on screen printed silver of solar cells which is called busbar. The bus bar collects the electrons generated in solar cell and it is connected to the next cell in the conventional module manufacturing by a metal stringer using conventional hot air or infrared lamp soldering systems. For thin solar cells, both soldering methods have disadvantages, which heats up the whole cell to high temperatures. Because of the different thermal expansion coefficient, mechanical stresses are induced in the solar cell. Recently, the trend of solar cell is toward thinner thickness below 180um and thus the risk of breakage of solar cells is increasing. This has led to the demand for new joining processes with high productivity and reduced error rates. In our project, we have developed a new method to solder solar cells with a laser heating source. The soldering process using diode laser with wavelength of 980nm was examined. The diode laser used has a maximum power of 60W and a scanner system is used to solder dimension of 6" solar cell and the beam travel speed is optimized. For clamping copper stripe to solar cell, zirconia(ZrO)coated iron pin-spring system is used to clamp both joining parts during a scanner system is traveled. The hot plate temperature that solar cell is positioned during lasersoldering process is optimized. Also, conventional solder joints after $180^{\circ}C$ peel tests are compared to the laser soldering methods. Microstructures in welded zone shows that the diffusion zone between solar cell and metal stripes is better formed than inIR soldering method. It is analyzed that the laser solder joints show no damages to the silicon wafer and no cracks beneath the contact. Peel strength between 4N and 5N are measured, with much shorter joining time than IR solder joints and it is shown that the use of laser soldering reduced the degree of bending of solar cell much less than IR soldering.

Graphene, as a single layer of $sp^2$-bonded carbon atoms packed into a 2D honeycomb crystal lattice, has attracted much attention due to its outstanding properties. In order to synthesize high quality graphene, transition metals, such as nickel and copper, have been widely employed as catalysts, which needs transfer to desired substrates for various applications. However, the transfer steps are not only complicated but also inevitably induce defects, impurities, wrinkles, and cracks of graphene. Furthermore, the direct synthesis of graphene on dielectric surfaces has still been a premature field for practical applications. Therefore, cost effective and concise methods for transfer-free graphene are essentially required for commercialization. Here, we report a facile transfer-free graphene synthesis method through nickel and carbon co-deposited layer. In order to fabricate 100 nm thick NiC layer on the top of $SiO_2/Si$ substrates, DC reactive magnetron sputtering was performed at a gas pressure of 2 mTorr with various Ar : $CH_4$ gas flow ratio and the 200 W DC input power was applied to a Ni target at room temperature. Then, the sample was annealed under 200 sccm Ar flow and pressure of 1 Torr at $1000^{\circ}C$ for 4 min employing a rapid thermal annealing (RTA) equipment. During the RTA process, the carbon atoms diffused through the NiC layer and deposited on both sides of the NiC layer to form graphene upon cooling. The remained NiC layer was removed by using a 0.5 M $FeCl_3$ aqueous solution, and graphene was then directly obtained on $SiO_2/Si$ without any transfer process. In order to confirm the quality of resulted graphene layer, Raman spectroscopy was implemented. Raman mapping revealed that the resulted graphene was at high quality with low degree of $sp^3$-type structural defects. Additionally, sheet resistance and transmittance of the produced graphene were analyzed by a four-point probe method and UV-vis spectroscopy, respectively. This facile non-transfer process would consequently facilitate the future graphene research and industrial applications.

In this study, green Larix kaempferi lumber was heat-treated by using superheated steam (SHS) at a pilot scale and then various physico-mechanical properties of the heat-treated wood were evaluated and compared with the properties of conventional hot air (HA) heat-treated wood. Decay resistance of brown rot fungi and compressive strength parallel to the grain of the SHS heat-treated wood without occurrence of drying check from green lumber were increased. On the other hand, density, equilibrium moisture content, shrinkage, and bending strength of the SHS heat-treated wood were lower than those of the conventional HA heat-treated wood. Because heat transfer and thermal hydrolysis of SHS heat treatment was accelerated by a large amount of water, the effect of SHS heat treatment on the physico-mechanical properties was higher than that of HA heat treatment at the similar conditions of temperature and time. From the results of this study, because green lumber can be heat-treated without occurrence of cracks or checks by using SHS and similar heat treatment effect on the physico-mechanical properties of wood can be produced despite a low temperature or short time of heat treatment, it is expected that heat time and energy consumption could be reduced by using SHS.

The occurrence and mineralogical characteristics of asbestos in dolostone at Ungdo, Seosan were investigated by analyses of PLM, XRD, and SEM/EDS. Representative outcrops of dolostone at Ungdo were examined and four dolostone samples were collected according the occurrence type to identify the shape of asbestos in dolostone samples. The host rock of dolostone had been produced from the hydrothermal alteration and/or thermal metamorphism of which main source was assumed as the acidic granite. Tremolites were observed near the cracks or fractures of the dolostone as tamping or gob types. From the mineralogical analyses, main minerals of dolostone were dolomite with calcite, quartz, talc, amphibole, and pyroxene. From SEM/EDS analyses, tremolite-actinolite asbestoses were observed in dolostone and their shapes were prismatic and fibrous (less than $1{\mu}m$ in width). Non-asbestos prismatic forms were also found and they would transfer to asbestos particles resulting from the cleavage and fracture of the prismatic particles. Overall results suggest that asbestoses in Ungdo dolosotnes were mainly tremolite-actinolite and they were originated from the hydrothermal alteration of Ca-Mg rich dolostone.

Stainless steel is a popular structural materials for liquid-hydrogen storage containers and piping components for transporting high-temperature fluids because of its superior material properties such as high strength and high corrosion resistance at elevated temperatures. In general, tungsten inert gas (TIG) arc welding is used for bonding stainless steel. However, it is often reported that the thermal fatigue cracks or initial defects in stainless steel after welding decreases the reliability of the material. The objective of this paper is to clarify the characteristics of ultrasonic guided wave propagation in relation to a change in the initial crack length in the welding zone of stainless steel. For this purpose, three specimens with different artificial defects of 5 mm, 10 mm, and 20 mm in stainless steel welds were prepared. By considering the thickness of s stainless steel pipe, special attention was given to both the L(0,1) mode and L(0,2) mode in this study. It was clearly found that the L(0,2) mode was more sensitive to defects than the L(0,1) mode. Based on the results of the L(0,1) and L(0,2) mode analyses, the magnitude ratio of the two modes was more effective than studying each mode when evaluating defects near the welded zone of stainless steel because of its linear relationship with the length of the artificial defect.

In order to transform arsenopyrite into pyrrhotite and to decrease As content by less than 2,000 mg/kg, pulp sample and non-magnetic pulp sample were heated in a microwave oven at different heating times and were separated through wet-magnetic separation. As the microwave heating time increased, the phase of pyrrhotite was extended to become arsenopyrite entirely. The melting pores and micro-cracks occurred on the pyrrhotite due to hot spot phenomenon with microwave heating. The heated raw pulp sample (As content : 19,970.13 mg/kg) and non-magnetic pulp sample (As content : 19,970.13 mg/kg) which were heated in a microwave oven for 10 minutes were separated through wet-magnetic separation and magnetic fraction containing less than 2,000 mg/kg of As content was recovered only from the heated sample of magnetic separation. It was discovered that for the sulfide complex ore with As penalty imposed on, if microwave heating and wet-magnetic separation are effectively utilized, magnetic fraction. We expect to be able to obtain ore minerals with an arsenic content below the penalty charge.

Microstructures of free surface and interior of glass-ceramics obtained by heat treating silicate glass specimen containing electric arc furnace dust(EAF dust) were observed. The crystallization temperature, $T_c$ of glassy specimen was measured around $850^{\circ}C$ from the result of different thermal analysis so heat treatment temperature to obtain glass-ceramic specimen was selected as $950^{\circ}C$ for 1 hr. Glass specimens containing 50 wt% dust were amorphous, while glass specimens containing 70 wt% dust showed spinel crystal peaks in XRD results. In case of glass-ceramic specimens, spinel crystalline phase was appeared with willemite, and willemite crystal peak intensity increased with increasing dust contents. The fractured surface of glass specimens containing 50 wt% dust was smooth like mirror surface, but that containing 70 wt% dust showed spinel crystals of 10 ${\mu}m$ size in glass matrix. In case of glass-ceramic specimens, ZnO crystal particles of $2{\sim}5{\mu}m$ size were produced in free surface and glassy phase, spinel and willemite crystal phases existed in interior. There were no crystals in glasses containing 50 wt% dust, while glass containing 70 wt% dust had 14 vol% crystals. Crystallinity of glass-ceramic specimens containing 50 and 70 wt% dust were 19 and 43%, respectively. When microstructures of glass and glass-ceramic specimens were observed through SEM after TCLP experiment, glass specimens showed flaking phenomenon while glass-ceramic specimens showed a slight corrosion evidence without any cracks.
Concrete tunnel lining must be designed to having the fireproof performance because the lining are sometimes exposed to very high temperature due to traffic accident. Such fire temperature may cause explosion of concrete, or collapse of tunnel structure. The purpose of this study is to obtain the fundamental fireproof behavior of fire resistance-engineered cementitious composites(FR-ECC) under fire temperature in order to use the fire protection material in tunnel lining system. The present study conducted the experiment to simulate fire temperature by employing 2 types of FR-ECC and investigated experimentally the explosion and cracks in heated surface of these FR-ECC. Employed temperature curve were hydro carbon(HC, ECl) criterion, which are severe in various criterion of fire temperature. The numerical analysis is carried out the nonlinear transient heat flow analysis and verified against the experimental data. The complex features of behavior in fire conditions, such as thermal expansion, plasticity, cracking or crushing, and material properties changing with temperature are considered. By the use of analytical model, the concrete tunnel subjected to fire loads were analyzed and discussed. With comparison of current concrete materials and FR-ECC, the experimental and analytical results of FR-ECC shows the better fire resistance performance than the other.
This study analyzes the apparent fracture toughness of a thick-walled cylinder with a functionally graded material (FGM) coating at the inner surface of the cylinder. The cylinder is assumed to have a single radial edge crack emanating from its inner surface. The crack surfaces and the inner surface of the cylinder are subjected to an internal pressure. The incompatible eigenstrain developed in the cylinder due to nonuniform coefficient of thermal expansion as a result of cooling from sintering temperature is taken into account. Based on a method of evaluating stress intensity factor introduced in our previous study, an approach is developed to calculate apparent fracture toughness. The approach is demonstrated for a cylinder with a TiC/$Al_{2}O_{3}$ FGM coating and some numerical results of apparent fracture toughness are presented graphically. The effects of material distribution profile, cylinder wall thickness, application temperature, and coating thickness on the apparent fracture toughness are investigated in details. It is found that all of these factors play an important role in controlling the apparent fracture toughness of the cylinder.

Manufacture of fishing vessel is needed the effective material for light, strength, fire and corrosion of water in order to improve durability by high-speed and fishing. These fishing vessel can be divided into FRP and AI alloys fishing vessel. FRP fishing vessel is light and effective for strength but highly ignited and susceptible to heat during the manufacturing ship by-produce noxious component for human. In the case of a scrapped ship, it cause environmental pollution. On the other hand, aluminum is a material in return for FRP and has merit of high-strength and lightness. It's more heat proof and durable than FRP and superior to prevent from corrosion. Al alloys fishing vessel development is rising as an urgent matter. But, al alloy has some defect of bad weldability, welding transformation, cracks and overcost of construction. Therefore this study is to develop the new welding joint shape solving aluminum defects and mechanical behavior. First of all, strength was compared and reviewed by analysis of plate, stiffen plate, new model simplified by using plate theory. On the base of this result, plate and new model of temperature distribution, weld residual stress and strength of tensile, compressive force were compared and reviewed by finite element computer program has been developed to deal with heat conduction and thermal elasto plastic problem. Also, new model is proved application possibility and excellent mechanic by strength comparison is established to tensile testing result.
