Thermal Properties and Water Sorption Behaviors of Epoxy and Bismaleimide Composites

  • In this work, we prepared epoxy/BMI composites by using N,N'-bismaleimide-4,4'-diphenylmethane (BMI), epoxy resin (diglycidyl ether of bisphenol-A (DGEBA)), and 4,4'-diamino diphenyl methane (DDM). The thermal properties and water sorption behaviors of the epoxy and BMI composites were investigated. For the epoxy/BMI composites, the glass transition and decomposition temperatures both increased with increasing BMI addition, which indicates the effect of BMI addition on improved thermal stability. The water sorption behaviors were gravi-metrically measured as a function of humidity, temperature, and composition. The diffusion coefficient and water uptake decreased and the activation energy for water diffusion increased with increasing BMI content, indicating that the water sorption in epoxy resin, which causes reliability problems in electronic devices, can be diminished by BMI addition. The water sorption behaviors in the epoxy/BMI composites were interpreted in terms of their chemical and morphological structures.

  • Polyol esters were synthesized by condensation reaction of polyols (PE and DiPE) and linear acids such as valeric acid, caproic acid, heptylic acid and caprylic acid. The structures of polyol esters were confirmed by gas chromatography. Hot tube test was used test was used to measure thermal stability of polyol esters and its thermal properties depended on the structure of acid moiety contained in polyol esters.

  • The electrical, chemical and mechanical characteristics in transformer insulations are changed due to thermal stress. It is known that characteristics of transformer insulations is deteriorated such as decrease of dielectric strength, deterioration of dielectric constant and tensile strength of paper as transformer oil and paper are aged by thermal stress. Furthermore, chemical characteristics of them are deteriorated as like increment of moisture contents and dissolved by-products in oil, etc. In this paper we have been investigated chemical characteristics of transformer by accelerated thermal aging. For this working we have made experimental test cell and aged at a temperature up to $140^{\circ}C$ for 500 hours. The oil-paper insulation samples have been measured at intervals of 100 hours. For analysis we used Karl-Fisher titration method and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).

습식표면처리 및 열 사이클에 따른 Cu/SiNx 계면접착에너지 평가 및 분석 (Effects of Wet Chemical Treatment and Thermal Cycle Conditions on the Interfacial Adhesion Energy of Cu/SiNx thin Film Interfaces)

  • 반도체 미세구리배선 적용을 위하여 구리배선의 습식 표면처리 및 열 사이클에 따른 구리 박막과 실리콘질화막 도포층 사이의 계면접착에너지를 4점굽힘시험을 통해 정량적으로 평가하였다. 구리배선을 화학적 기계적 연마한 후 습식 표면처리를 통하여 구리 박막과 실리콘질화막의 계면접착에너지는 $10.57J/m^2$에서 $14.87J/m^2$로 증가하였다. $-45{\sim}175^{\circ}C$범위에서 250사이클 후, 표면처리를 하지 않은 시편의 계면접착에너지는 $5.64J/m^2$으로, 표면처리를 한 시편은 $7.34J/m^2$으로 감소하였으며, 모든 시편의 박리계면은 구리 박막과 실리콘질화막 계면으로 확인되었다. X-선 광전자 분광법으로 계면 결합 상태를 분석한 결과, 화학적 기계적 연마 공정 후 구리배선의 표면 산화물이 습식표면처리에 의해 효과적으로 제거된 것을 확인하였다. 또한, 열 사이클 처리동안, 구리 박막과 실리콘질화막의 큰 열 팽창 계수 차이로 인한 열응력으로 인하여 구리 박막과 실리콘질화막 계면이 취약해지고, 계면을 통한 산소유입에 따른 구리 산화층이 증가하여 계면접착에너지가 저하된 것으로 판단된다.

Fabrication of CNT/CMK3 Carbon Composites with High Electrical/Thermal Conductive Properties

  • Composite materials of mesoporous carbon and carbon nanotubes were synthesized using Ni, Co and Pd-loaded CMK3 via a catalytic reaction of methane and $CO_2$. The CNTs grew from the pores of the mesoporous carbon supports, and they were attached tightly to the CMK3 surface in a densely tangled shape. The CNT/CMK3 composite showed both non-graphitic mesoporous structures, and graphitic characteristics originating from the MWCNTS grown in the pores of CMK3. The electrochemical properties of the materials were characterized by their electrorheological effects and cyclic voltammetry. The CNTs/CMK3 composites showed high electrical conductivity and current density. The CNT/CMK3 or KOH-modified CNT/CMK3 particles were incorporated in a PMMA matrix to improve the thermal and electrical conductivity. Even higher thermal conductivity was achieved by the addition of KOH-modified CNT/CMK3 particles.

Preparation and Characterization of Polyimide/Carbon-Nanotube Composites

  • Polyimide/carbon nanotube (CNT) composite films, for potential use in high performance microelectronics and aerospace applications, were prepared by mixing a polyisoimide (PII) solution and a CNT suspension in NMP, followed by casting, evaporation and thermal imidization. The CNTs were modified by a nitric acid treatment to improve the thermal and electrical properties, as well as to provide good dispersion of the CNTs in a polymer matrix. The formation of functional groups on the modified CNT was confirmed by Raman spectroscopy. Scanning electron microscopy revealed the modified CNTs to be well dispersed in the polyimide matrix, with a uniform diameter of ca. 50 nm. The thermal stability of the films containing the CNTs was improved due to the enhanced interfacial interaction and good dispersion between the polyimide matrix and modified CNTs. In addition, the thermal expansion coefficient of the composites films was slightly decreased, but the dielectric constants increased linearly with increasing CNT content.

Effect of Thermal Annealing of Gravure Printed Polymer Solar Cells

  • Polymer solar cells were fabricated with gravure printing process and the effect of thermal annealing of gravure printed organic layer was investigated. The layer structure of polymer solar cells is glass / ITO / hole transfer layer / active layer / Al structure was fabricated. For the active layer, 1:1 ratio of poly-3-hexylthiophene (P3HT) and [6,6]-phenyl C61-butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM) mixture was applied. The P3HT/PCBM blend was gravure printed onto the substrates. The effect of thermal annealing was investigated by changing annealing time and the number of printing. Maximum 3.6% of power conversion efficiency was achieved with gravure printing of organic layer and thermal annealing in this work.
