Residual stresses and thermal deformation of a structure due to welding are very imfortant factors for a weld design. It has been carried therretical analysis to invesitigate influence of heat flux to residual stresses and thermal deformation producted by curcumferential welding. Temperature, stresses and deformationn are obtain as a function of circumferentisl drgree and distance from welding center line. These result can applicate to predict and remove the deformation or residual stresses built up by welding.
The effect of frictional factors on thermal stress and deformation volume of motorcycle brake disk was studied by using a disk-on-pad type friction tester. It has an effect on the frictional factor such as applied load, sliding speed, sliding distance and number of ventilated disk hole. However, it is difficult to know the mutual relation of these factors. In this study, thermal stress and deformation volume by using design of experiment with 4 elements were investigated for thermal analysis with regression analysis. Thermal stress and thermal deformation are obtained by the application of temperature from mechanical test. From this study, the result showed that the motorcycle brake disk with ventilated hole 3 had the most excellent thermal stress and deformation volume. The regression equation had a trust rate of 95% for the prediction of thermal stress and deformation volume of motorcycle brake disk was composed.
Thermal brake judder caused by the high friction heat of the brake disk. Hot thermal judder makes serious problems such as to be unstability to drivers or to decrease braking force of automobile. Because thermal judder vibration makes high vibration occurrence and thermal deformation of brake disk. Therefore it Is necessary to reduce or eleminate thermal Judder phenomenon by understanding and investigation. This paper introduces the thermal deformation arising from friction heat generation in braking and proposes the FEM analysis to predict the distribution of temperature and thermal deformation. the results of the FEM analysis show the deformed shape and temperature distribution of the disk brake. The optimization is performed to minimize the thermal judder of ventilated disc brake that is induced by the thermal deformation of the disk brake.
In the recent years, development of machine tool with high speed feeding system have brought a rapid increase in productivity. Practically, thermal deformation problem due to high speed is, however, become a large obstacle to realize high precision machining. In this study, therefore, the construction of automatic error compensation system to control thermal deformation in high speed feeding system with real time is proposed. To attain this purpose, high speed feeding system with feeding speed 60mm/min is developed and experimental equation for relationship between thermal deformation and temperature of ball screw shaft using multiple regression analysis is established. Furthermore, in order to analyze thermal deformation error, compensation coefficient is determined and thermal deformation experiments is carried out. From obtained results, it is confirmed that automatic error compensation system constructed in this study is able to control thermal deformation error within $15{\sim}20{\mu}m$.

A new model for heat transfer and thermal deformation analysis according to strip mm in coiling process has been proposed. Finite difference analyses for heat transfer of cold rolled coil have been carried out under various coiling tensions and strip crown using the equivalent thermal conductivity for the radial direction of cold rolled coil which is a function of strip thickness, surface characteristics and compressive pressure. The compressive pressure is calculated from a equation expressed as a function of hoop stress and coil tension considering strip mm obtained by experiment. Finite element method for thermal deformation of cold rolled coil has been performed to investigate the effects of the strip crown, the coil tension and temperature. From these analyses, it is found that the axial inhomogeneity of thermal deformation is increased as the strip crown, compressive pressure, and temperature drop in cold coiled strip increase.
Thermal deformation of cast iron exhaust manifold for turbo diesel engine is investigated by finite element analysis (FEA). The FE model included the temperature dependent material properties as well as the interactions between exhaust manifold, cylinder head and fasteners. It also considers the sliding behavior of the flanges of exhaust manifold on cylinder head when either expansion or contraction of the exhaust manifold exceeds the fastener pretension. The result of analysis revealed that remarkable thermal deformation along the longitudinal direction. Compressive plastic deformation at high temperature remained tensile stress in manifold and resulted in longitudinal contraction at ambient temperature. The amount of contraction at each fastener position was predicted and compared with experimental results. Analysis results revealed that the model predicted deformation qualitatively, but more elaborated cyclic hardening behavior would be necessary to predict the deformation quantitatively.
IIn this study, used is the equivalent loading method based on the inherent strain to predict the welding deformation of panel members. Equivalent loads are computed from the inherent strain distribution around weld line, and then applied for the linear finite element analysis. Thermal deformation of panel members can be, of course, carried out through the rigorous thermal elasto-plastic analysis procedure but it is not practical in applying to predicting the welding deformation of large structures such as blocks found in a ship structure from view of computing time. The present equivalent load approach has been applied to flat plate model to verify the present approach, and to several curved plate models having the curvature in the welding direction to investigate the effect of the longitudinal curvature upon the weld-induced deformation. The results are compared with those by thermal elasto-plastic analysis. As far as the present results are concerned, it can be said that the present approach shows good agreement with the results by welding experiment and the rigorous thermal elasto-plastic analysis. The present approach has been also applied to predict the welding deformation of panel block as for application illustration to practical model.
Thermal deformation, such as bending and twisting, occurs among the polymer parts of air-conditioner indoor units because of repetitive temperature change during heating operation. In this study, a numerical method employing finite-element analysis to efficiently simulate the thermal deformation of an assembly is proposed. Firstly, the displacement of an actual assembly produced by thermal deformation was measured using a 3D optical measurement system. The measurement results indicated a general downward sag of the assembly, and the maximum displacement value was approximately 1 mm. The temperature distribution was measured using a thermographic camera, and the results were used as initial-temperature boundary conditions to perform temperature-displacement analysis. The simulation results agreed well with the measured data. To reduce the thermal deformation, the stiffness increased 100%. As the results, the maximum displacement decreased by approximately 5.4% and the twisting deformation of the holder improved significantly.
Two-dimensional and three-dimensional finite element methods have been used to analyze the deformation behavior of a shadow mask due to thermal and tension load. The shadow mask inside the Braun tube of a TV set has numerous slits through which the electron beams are guided to land on the designed phosphor of red, green or blue. Its thermal deformation therefore causes landing shift of the electron beam and results in decolorization of a screen. For the realistic finite element analysis, the effective thermal conductivity and the effective elastic modulus arc calculated, and then the shadow mask is modeled as shell without slits. Next a transient thermal analysis of the shadow mask is performed, wherein thermal radiation is a major heat transfer mechanism. Analysis of the resulting thermal deformation is followed, from which the landing shift of the electron beam is obtained. The present finite element scheme may be efficiently used to reduce thermal deformation of a shadow mask and in developing prototypes of a large screen flat TV.
