This experiment was carried out to study on the effect of surface coating on thermal insulation of farm structures to improve thermal resistance and reflective effect of solar radiation. Nine different types of experimental specimen were compared in the temperature variations of inside and outside; A, B, C, D. E and F types are box container and G, H and I types are drum container. The size of these containers is $1,500{\times}2,000{\times}2,500$ mm and ${\varphi}$$280{\times}330$ mm, respectively. Specimen of 3-type box(A, B, C) is galvanized steel sheet of thickness 0.45 mm. D, E and F types are sandwich panel of the thickness 50 mm inserted with urethane, glass wool and polystyrene form, respectively. G, H and I types are paint pot using in general. The surface of A. D, E, F and I types didn't any treatment, B, C and G types were treated with thermal insulation coating on the outside surface(B, G) or the inside and outside surface(C). And H type was treated with water paint coating on the only outside surface. In general, the experimental results showed the following tendencies; In case of A, B and C types. it was found that the thermal insulation effect of types coated with thermal insulation coating was improved remarkably than that of no treatment. And the thermal insulation effect between steel sheet and sandwich panel type was nearly similar There was not a significant difference of thermal insulation effect between thermal insulation coating and water paint coating. In time of drum container filled with rough rice, The difference of heat transfer tendency and temperature variation among surface treatments was nearly similar that of box types of galvanized steel sheet. And there was time lag about 6 hours between the temperature of middle part of rice and that of inside or outside surface.

This study is a preliminary research to develop design principles for environmentally friendly housing. The purposes of study are to investigate the literatures related passive design for summer and theory of ventilation, to analyze the indoor airflow patterns in traditional Korean house during summer, and to propose the design factors for effective passive cooling system. The analysis for airflow patterns was focused on the ‘An bang’and the ‘Dae Chung’in the ‘An Chae’of a traditional house located in Seoul. Field measurements of air temperature and air velocity were carried out at 30 different measuring points with 8 different window-opening conditions. The measurements were taken on the hottest summer days in August 2000. It is concluded that from an environmentally friendly standpoint design factors to control indoor thermal environment by a passive cooling system during the summer are as follows; ceiling structure has thermal performance like a time-lag effect, optimum height and length of eaves which can prevent sunlight and divert airflow toward the sitting level, building arrangement acceptable the prevailing wind, strategic window arrangement which makes cross ventilation possible (especially north-south) at the sitting level, window opening condition which is possible to intersect two cross-ventilation stream at the main living areas, northward windows remaining in shade to create the air pressure difference, and planning building shape like a bracket that has optimum width and depth.

Dynamic characteristics of thermally-forced stratification process in a square enclosure with a linear temperature profile at the side walls have been investigated through flow visualization experiment and numerical analysis. The experiment was performed on air with the Rayleigh numbers of order $10^5$. A particle tracer method is used for the flow visualization and to obtain a sudden linear temperature profile at the side walls copper blocks which already have a linear temperature profile are come into contact with the thin copper plates of the test section. Immediately a meridional circulation is developed and heat transfer takes place from the wall to the interior region by circulation of fluid and finally a thermal stratification is achieved. In the numerical study, QUICK scheme for convective terms, SIMPLE algorithm for pressure correction, and the implicit method for the time marching are adopted for the integration of conservation equations. Comparison of flow visualization and numerical results shows that the developing flow patterns are very similar in dynamic nature even though there is a time lag due to the inevitable time delay in setting up a linear temperature profile. For high Rayleigh numbers, the oscillatory motion is likely to take place and stratified region is extended. However, initial temperature adjustment process is much slower than that for low Rayleigh numbers.
Strengthening of reinforced concrete beams with externally bonded fiber reinforced polymer plates/sheets technique has become widespread in the last two decades. Although a great deal of research has been conducted on simply supported RC beams, a few studies have been carried out on continuous beams strengthened with FRP composites. This paper presents a simple uniaxial nonlinear analytical model that is able to accurately estimate the load carrying capacity and the behaviour of damaged RC continuous beams flexural strengthened with externally bonded prestressed composite plates on both of the upper and lower fibers, taking into account the thermal load. The model is based on equilibrium and deformations compatibility requirements in and all parts of the strengthened beam, i.e., the damaged concrete beam, the FRP plate and the adhesive layer. The flexural analysis results and analytical predictions for the prestressed composite strengthened damaged RC continuous beams were compared and showed very good agreement in terms of the debonding load, yield load, and ultimate load. The use of composite materials increased the ultimate load capacity compared with the non strengthened beams. The major objective of the current model is to help engineers' model FRP strengthened RC continuous beams in a simple manner. Finally, this research is helpful for the understanding on mechanical behaviour of the interface and design of the FRP-damaged RC hybrid structures.
The article is about the theoretical analysis of the transmission and reflection of elastic waves through the interface of perfectly connected materials. The solid continuum mediums considered are piezoelectric semiconductors and transversely isotropic in nature. The connection among the mediums is considered in such a way that it holds the continuity property of field variables at the interface. The concept of strain and stress introduced by non-local theory is also being involved to make the study more applicable It is found that, the incident wave results in the generation of four reflected and three transmitted waves including the thermal and elastic waves. The thermal waves generated in the medium are encountered by using the concept of three phase lag heat model along with fractional ordered time thermoelasticity. The results obtained are calculated graphically for a ZnO material with piezoelectric semiconductor properties for medium M1 and CdSc material with transversely isotropic elastic properties for medium M2. The influence of fractional order parameter, non-local parameter, and steady carrier density parameter on the amplitude ratios of reflected and refraction waves are studied graphically by MATLAB.

During the curing process of thick glass/epoxy laminates, a substantial amount of temperature lag and overshoot at the center of the laminates is usually experienced due to the large thickness and low thermal conductivity of the glass/epoxy composites. Also, it requires a longer time for full and uniform consolidation. In this work, temperature, degree of cure and consolidation of a 20mm thick unidirectional glass/epoxy laminate were investigated using an experiment and a 3-dimentional numerical analysis considering the exothermic reaction. From the experimental and numerical results, it was found that the experimentally obtained temperature profile agreed well with the numerical one and the cure cycle recommended by the prepreg manufacturer should be modified to prevent a temperature overshoot and to obtain full consolidation.

This paper deals with parameter tuning of the Power System Stabilizer (PSS) for 612 MVA thermal power plants in the KEPCO system and its validation in a field test. In this paper, the selection of parameters, such as lead-lag time constants for phase compensation and system gain, is optimized using linear and eigenvalue analyses. This is then verified through the time-domain transient stability analysis. In the next step, the performance of PSS is finally verified by the generator's on-line field test. After the field test, measured and simulated data are also compared to prove the effectiveness of the models used in the simulations.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of low temperature thermal pre-treatment on biodegradation of waste activated sludge for anaerobic digestion as a countermeasure for increasing sludge generation. The experimental condition was accomplished in 2 %, 4 %, and 6 % TS concentration, and $70^{\circ}C$, $80^{\circ}C$, $90^{\circ}C$ of temperature for a maximum of 120 minutes retention time. Then, it was followed by analysis of physical/chemical properties, BMP test and composition of biogas. The biogas characteristic was evaluated by applying the modified Gomperz model. As a result, solubility of dissolved substrate, such as $SCOD_{Cr}$, soluble carbohydrate, and soluble protein, and biogas production increased as temperature increased. Solubilization efficiency at $90^{\circ}C$ was 18.4 %, 17.03 % and 16.88% in 2 %, 4 %, and 6 % TS concentration respectively. Also, solubilization rates of carbohydrate and protein similarly increased. BMP test results also showed that methane production in excess sludge increased to 0.194, 0.187 and $0.182m^3/kg$ VS. respectively, and lag phase decreased to 0.145, 0.220, 0.351 day due to acceleration of the hydrolysis step. Consequently, low-temperature thermal pre-treatment could increase biodegradability of sludge, positively affecting biogas production and sludge reduction.
In this article, the author carried out a theoretical study on the application techniques of a new Combined Passive Solar System (hereinafter referred to as the CPSS) of direct gain and trombe walls to get quick morning heating and to prevent afternoon overheating for office building. The numerical model proposed in this study can be used for the performance analysis of the CPSS in the winter and summer. Heating and Cooling loads are analysed for building energy consumption reduction using this numerical model. The results indicate that CPSS in the winter and summer modes could provide profitable conditions for improvement of indoor thermal comfort control and energy saving. consequently, the application of CPSS will not lead to significant reductions in the auxiliary air conditioning demand but also realize the environmentally friendly building.
