  • The research on the development of the fault monitoring system for the thermal reduction reactor has been performed preliminarily in order to support the successful operation of the thermal reduction reactor. The final task of the development of the fault monitoring system is to assure the integrity of the thermal$_3$ reduction reactor by the acoustic emission (AE) method. The objectives of this paper are to identify and characterize the fault-induced signals for the discrimination of the various AE signals acquired during the reactor operation. The AE data acquisition and analysis system was constructed and applied to the fault monitoring of the small- scale reduction reactor, Through the series of experiments, the various signals such as background noise, operating signals, and fault-induced signals were measured and their characteristics were identified, which will be used in the signal discrimination for further application to full-scale thermal reduction reactor.

  • Field-emission characteristics of carbon nanotubes(CNTs), which were grown on conical-type tungsten micro-tips by using an electrophoretic deposition(EPD) method, were examined. The EPD method proved to be convenient to manipulate and arrange CNTs from well dispersed suspensions onto such tip-type substrates. The growth rate of CNTs was proportional to the applied d.c. bias voltage and the process time. It was observed from the Raman study that the EPDproduced CNTs showed better crystal qualities with the Raman intensity ratio( $I_D$/$I_G$) of 0.41-0.42 than the CVD-produced CNTs and their crystal qualities could be further improved by thermal annealing. The electron emitters based on the EPDCNTs showed excellent field emission properties, such as the threshold voltage for electron emission of about 620 V and the maximum emission current of about 345 ${\mu}A$. In addition, the EPD-CNTs exhibited the stable long-term(up to 40 h) emission capability and the emission stability was enhanced by thermal annealing.

  • In this paper I give an overview of the detection of emission from the warm-hot intergalactic medium (WHIM) in the outer parts of clusters of galaxies. The evidence for the presence of soft excess X-ray emission in 7 out of 21 clusters is summarized, and it is demonstrated that several of these clusters show the signatures of thermal emission in the outer parts. A strong signature is the presence of redshifted O VII emission at 0.57 keV. In the central parts, several clusters show also a soft excess, but m this case the observations cannot well discriminate between a thermal or non-thermal origin of the soft X-ray excess.

  • It was numerically studied that NOx emission characteristics of confined $CH_{4}$ jet flames with the variation of the diameter of inner fuel nozzle, the flow rate of $CH_{4}$ and equivalence ratio. Parabolic type equations were adopted in the calculation and GRI-2.1I mechanism was used for the chemical reaction. NOx emission index (EINOx) was introduced to evaluate NOx emission quantitatively in parametrically varied flames and the contribution of Thermal and Prompt NO mechanism was discussed. The results showed that Total EINOx varied sensitively with the variation of the flow rate of$CH_{4}$ but it was not sensitive to the variation of the diameter of inner fuel nozzle. Thermal EINOx showed the similar tendency to total EINOx and Prompt EINOx showed insensitivity to the variation of the diameter of inner fuel nozzle and the flow rate of $CH_{4}$.

  • ${\alpha}-V_2O_5$ nanorods were grown by means of electron beam irradiation and thermal oxidation methods and the visible emission properties of the nanorods grown by both methods were investigated. The growth and crystallinity of the nanorods were greatly enhanced by the insertion of a buffer layer. The emission spectra of the nanorods grown by thermal oxidation and electron beam irradiation showed a peak centered at 710~720 nm, which is believed to be due to oxygen vacancies introduced during the growth process. Also, the emission peak centered at 530 nm observed in the $V_2O_5$ nanorods grown by electron beam irradiation was considered to be due to the band edge transition as a result of the enhanced crystallinity.

  • Burning the fossil fuel in the thermal power plants causes green house gas emission. Monitoring of CO2 emission of the thermal power plants is growing more important because the amount produced by them is more than 20 percent of national total emission. This paper proposes a method to calculate the amount of the CO2 emission w.r.t. generator[MW] output using the input-output coefficients of the thermal power plants. The power flow computation together with the CO2 emission calculation are demonstrated in a sample power system.

  • ZnO crystals with different morphologies were synthesized through a thermal evaporation of Zn-Mn mixtures in air. The morphology was dependant on the Mn content in Zn-Mn mixture. The morphology was changed from rod to tetrapod shape with decreasing Mn content in Zn-Mn mixture. The result indicates that the concentration of Mn might be responsible for the different morphologies of ZnO crystals. XRD spectra showed that the ZnO crystals had a hexagonal wurtzite crystal strutures. For all the samples, room temperature cathodoluminescence spectra showed a ultra-violet emission at 380 nm and a green emission at around 500 nm. However, the intensity ratio of ultra-violet emission to green emission was significantly different with the Mn content in the source material.

  • The NOx emission characteristics of jet flames fueled with $H_2$ and $CH_4$ were studied. Experimental and numerical investigations were carried out for various flames with varying equivalence ratio, fuel flow rate and nozzle diameter. The Emission indices of NOx(EINOx) were measured by chemiluminescent method and calculated by simulation using detailed chemistry. The results show that EINOx of $CH_4$ and $H_2$ flames have different trends in terms of equivalence ratio and fuel flow rate but have the same trends in terms of nozzle diameter. These differences can be explained by the following Thermal and Prompt trends in both flames. Thermal EINOx trends can be describe in function of residence time in the high-temperature region weighted by the maximum flame temperature and Prompt EINOx trends can be described in function of flame surface area of each combustion conditions.
