  • This paper deals with the design of decentralized controller for load-frequency control of interconnected power systems with superconducting magnetic energy storage units and Governor Dead Band Nonlinearity using Multi-Objective Evolutionary Algorithm. The superconducting magnetic energy storage unit exhibits favourable damping effects by suppressing the frequency oscillations as well as stabilizing the inter-area oscillations effectively. The proposed control strategy is mainly based on a compromise between Integral Squared Error and Maximum Stability Margin criteria. Analysis on a two-area interconnected thermal power system reveals that the proposed controller improves the dynamic performance of the system and guarantees good closed-loop stability even in the presence of nonlinearities and with parameter changes.

  • This paper presents a new approach to the design of cruise control system of a mobile robot with two drive wheel. The proposed control scheme uses a Gaussian function as a unit function in the fuzzy-neural network, and back propagation algorithm to train the fuzzy-neural network controller in the framework of the specialized learning architecture. It is proposed a learning controller consisting of two neural network-fuzzy based on independent reasoning and a connection net with fixed weights to simply the neural networks-fuzzy. The performance of the proposed controller is shown by performing the computer simulation for trajectory tracking of the speed and azimuth of a mobile robot driven by two independent wheels.

  • The purpose of this study is to establish the optimal induction heating conditions of various preform types used for TR forging. The finite element model coupled electro-magnetic and transient heat transfer was employed to evaluate the distribution of temperature at the billet. Power control method was applied to control temperature of preform in induction heating because TR forging is not a continuous process. Power schedule that consists of heating and holding stage was suggested. In heating stage, power is inversely proportional to diameter of preform but the time of heating stage is directly proportional to the diameter of preform. But, in holding stage, the required power for thermal equilibrium per unit volume of the billet decreases with an increase in a diameter of billet due to the increase of efficiency.

  • This paper is designed to propose methods to both analyze and control the reasons for cracks appearing during the construction of piers. For this aim, a numerical analysis was performed to identify the properties of crack which resulted from heat of hydration and differential drying shrinkage with the key influence factors considered. The results show that the thermal cracks occurred within a few days, and the drying shrinkage cracks within a few weeks. Meanwhile, settlement shrinkage cracks occurred within a few hours. Discussing the control methods based on the time of the cracks appearing, quality control, reduction of the unit quantity of cement, and the preservation of moisture on the surface are proposed as the realistic and effective methods for preventing settlement cracks, thermal cracks, and drying shrinkage cracks respectively.

  • In this paper, a cycler system for the Lithium-Polymer battery with the large capacity of 120Ah is presented. This system is constituted as the two units for the charging and discharging. The Lithium-Polymer battery should be charged in CC and CV mode, and it is required a very high precision control of the voltage and current for the charging unit. To decrease the switching noises and harmonics, parallel operation method is adopted and utilized in the power conversion module. The discharging unit has a link AC system function to return the discharging energy of battery to AC line and has comparatively less thermal loss. These units are designed to be controlled and monitored by personal computer. The total system for the battery charging and discharging is described and presented.

  • The cooling of data centers has emerged as a significant challenge as the density of IT server increases. Server installations, along with the shrinking physical size of servers and storage systems, has resulted in high power density and high heat density. The introduction of high density enclosures into a data center creates the potential for "hot spots" within the room that the cooling system may not be able to address, since traditional designs assume relatively uniform cooling patterns within a data center. The cooling system for data center consists of a CRAC or CRAH unit and the associated air distribution system. It is the configuration of the distribution system that primarily distinguishes the different types of data center cooling systems, this is the main subject of this paper.

  • In this study an objection, to be needed at public works, is to develop a measurement circuit of a gauage using radioisotope for compaction control. The developed gauage consists of measuring circuits for gamma-rays and thermal neutrons, a high voltage supply unit, and a microprocessor. To obtain meaningful numbers of pulse counts, parallel five and two circuits are provided for gamma-rays and thermal neutrons, respectively. Also, to minimize effects of natural environmental radiation and electrical noise, circuits are electrostatically shielded and pulses made by ripples are eliminated by taking frequency of high voltage supplied to the circuit and pulse height of ripples into consideration.

  • This study has been carried out to design a number of storage units which could improve the utilizability of solar energy by offering convenient means to store it. The proposed units are systematically tested to establish their reliability in actual operations. One of the prominent features of the present storage units is that each design is meant to drastically improve the thermal response of solar systems which would definitely offer extreme convenience to whoever uses it. Also sought in the present study is to elicit ideal operating conditions during the storage and extraction phases of solar energy once it is delivered to the storage unit. The present study has confirmed the potential use of the proposed units with their applicability in capitalizing the sun's energy.

This study describes operation characteristics of HVAC systems with ventilation and individual heating and cooling unit for shopping center in underground passage. In order to compare energy saving, thermal environment and installation space, etc., an integrated simulator with heat production and distribution system was designed and constructed. Energy delivery efficiency is improved over 20%, and energy saving of the hybrid system is calculated as over 30% compared to conventional all air type in the case of heating. And also the results showed that humidity decreased about $5{\sim}6%$, also characteristics of thermal control is improved over 34%.
