Thermal buckling of nonlocal flexoelectric nanoplates incorporating surface effects is analyzed for the first time. Coupling of strain gradients and electrical polarizations is introduced by flexoelectricity. It is assumed that flexoelectric nanoplate is subjected to uniform and linear temperature distributions. Long range interaction between atoms of nanoplate is modeled via nonlocal elasticity theory. The residual surface stresses which are usually neglected in modeling of flexoelectric nanoplates are incorporated into nonlocal elasticity to provide better understanding of the physic of problem. A Galerkin-based approach is implemented to solve the governing equations derived from Hamilton's principle are solved. The verification of obtained results is performed by comparing buckling loads of flexoelectric nanoplate with previous data. It is shown that buckling loads of flexoelectric nanoplate are significantly affected by thermal loading type, temperature change, nonlocal parameter, surface effect, plate thickness and boundary conditions.

The nonlinear thermal buckling load parameter of the laminated composite panel structure is investigated numerically using the higher-order theory including the stretching effect through the thickness and presented in this research article. The large geometrical distortion of the curved panel structure due to the elevated thermal loading is modeled via Green-Lagrange strain field including all of the higher-order terms to achieve the required generality. The desired solutions are obtained numerically using the finite element steps in conjunction with the direct iterative method. The concurrence of the present nonlinear panel model has been established via adequate comparison study with available published data. Finally, the effect of different influential parameters which affect the nonlinear buckling strength of laminated composite structure are examined through numerous numerical examples and discussed in details.
In this paper, hyperbolic shear deformation plate theory is developed for thermal buckling of functionally graded plates with porosity by dividing transverse displacement into bending and shear parts. The present theory is variationally consistent, and accounts for a quadratic variation of the transverse shearstrains across the thickness and satisfies the zero traction boundary conditions on the top and bottom surfaces of the plate without using shear correction factors. Three different patterns of porosity distributions (including even and uneven distribution patterns, and the logarithmic-uneven pattern) are considered. The logarithmic-uneven porosities for first time is mentioned. Equilibrium and stability equations are derived based on the present theory. The non-linear governing equations are solved for plates subjected to simply supported boundary conditions. The thermal loads are assumed to be uniform, linear and non-linear distribution through-the-thickness. A comprehensive parametric study is carried out to assess the effects of volume fraction index, porosity fraction index, aspect ratio and side-to-thickness ratio on the buckling temperature difference of imperfect FG plates.
The thermal effects on the buckling, postbuckling and nonlinear vibration behaviors of composite laminated trapezoidal plates are studied. Aiming at the complex plate structure and to simulate the temperature distribution of the plate, a finite element method (FEM) is applied in this paper. In the temperature model, based on the thermal diffusion equation, the Galerkin's method is employed to establish the temperature equation of the composite laminated trapezoidal plate. The geometrical nonlinearity of the plate is considered by using the von Karman large deformation theory, and combining the thermal model and aeroelastic model, Hamilton's principle is employed to establish the thermoelastic equation of motion of the composite laminated trapezoidal plate. The thermal buckling and postbuckling of the composite laminated rectangular plate are analyzed to verify the validity and correctness of the present methodology by comparing with the results reported in the literature. Moreover, the effects of the temperature with the ply-angle on the thermal buckling and postbuckling of the composite laminated trapezoidal plates are studied, the thermal effects on the nonlinear vibration behaviors of the composite laminated trapezoidal plates are discussed, and the frequency-response curves are also presented for the different temperatures and ply angles.

This paper investigates the effects of thermal load and shear force on the buckling of nanobeams. Higher-order shear deformation beam theories are implemented and their predictions of the critical buckling load and post-buckled configurations are compared to those of Euler-Bernoulli and Timoshenko beam theories. The nonlocal Eringen elasticity model is adopted to account a size-dependence at the nano-scale. Analytical closed form solutions for critical buckling loads and post-buckling configurations are derived for proposed beam theories. This would be helpful for those who work in the mechanical analysis of nanobeams especially experimentalists working in the field. Results show that thermal load has a more significant impact on the buckling behavior of simply-supported beams (S-S) than it has on clamped-clamped (C-C) beams. However, the nonlocal effect has more impact on C-C beams that it does on S-S beams. Moreover, it was found that the predictions obtained from Timoshenko beam theory are identical to those obtained using all higher-order shear deformation theories, suggesting that Timoshenko beam theory is sufficient to analyze buckling in nanobeams.
In this paper, the thermal buckling and postbuckling behaviour of composite beam with embedded shape memory alloy (SMA) wires are investigated experimentally and analytically. The results of thermal buckling tests on uniformly heated, clamped, composite beam embedded with SMA wire actuators are presented and discussed in consideration of geometric imperfections, slenderness ratio of beam and embedding position of SMA wire actuators. The shape recovery force can reduce the thermal expansion of composite laminated beam, which result in increment of the critical buckling temperature and reduction of the lateral deflection of postbuckling behaviours. It is presented quantitatively on the temperature-load-deflection behaviour records how the shape recovery force affects the thermal buckling. The cross tangential method is suggested to calculate the critical buckling temperature on the temperature-deflection plot. Based on the experimental analysis, the new formula is also proposed to describe the critical buckling temperature of a laminated composite beam with embedded SMA wire actuators.
In this article, a four-variable refined plate theory is presented for buckling analysis of functionally graded plates subjected to uniform, linear and non-linear temperature rises across the thickness direction. The theory accounts for parabolic distribution of the transverse shear strains, and satisfies the zero traction boundary conditions on the surfaces of the plate without using shear correction factor. Young's modulus and Poisson ratio of the FGM plates are assumed to remain constant throughout the entire plate. However, the coefficient of thermal expansion of the FGM plate varies according to a power law form through the thickness coordinate. Equilibrium and stability equations are derived based on the present theory. The influences of many plate parameters on buckling temperature difference such ratio of thermal expansion, aspect ratio, side-to-thickness ratio and gradient index will be investigated.
Classical and first-order nonlocal beam theory are employed in this study to assess the thermal buckling performance of a small-scale conical, cylindrical beam. The beam is constructed from functionally graded (FG) porosity-dependent material and operates under the thermal conditions of the environment. Imperfections within the non-uniform beam vary along both the radius and length direction, with continuous changes in thickness throughout its length. The resulting structure is functionally graded in both radial and axial directions, forming a bi-directional configuration. Utilizing the energy method, governing equations are derived to analyze the thermal stability and buckling characteristics of a nanobeam across different beam theories. Subsequently, the extracted partial differential equations (PDE) are numerically solved using the generalized differential quadratic method (GDQM), providing a comprehensive exploration of the thermal behavior of the system. The detailed discussion of the produced results is based on various applied effective parameters, with a focus on the potential application of nanotubes in enhancing sports bikes performance.

In the present study, the thermal buckling behavior of functionally graded sandwich plates is studied using a new hyperbolic displacement model. Unlike any other theory, the theory is variationally consistent and gives four governing equations. Number of unknown functions involved in displacement field is only four, as against five in case of other shear deformation theories. This present model takes into account the parabolic distribution of transverse shear stresses and satisfies the condition of zero shear stresses on the top and bottom surfaces without using shear correction factor. Material properties and thermal expansion coefficient of the sandwich plate faces are assumed to be graded in the thickness direction according to a simple power-law distribution in terms of the volume fractions of the constituents. The core layer is still homogeneous and made of an isotropic material. The thermal loads are assumed as uniform, linear and non-linear temperature rises across the thickness direction. The results reveal that the volume fraction index, loading type and functionally graded layers thickness have significant influence on the thermal buckling of functionally graded sandwich plates.
A new higher shear deformation theory (HSDT) is presented for the thermal buckling behavior of functionally graded (FG) sandwich plates. It uses only four unknowns, which is even less than the first shear deformation theory (FSDT) and the conventional HSDTs. The theory considers a hyperbolic variation of transverse shear stress, respects the traction free boundary conditions and contrary to the conventional HSDTs, the present one presents a new displacement field which includes undetermined integral terms. Material characteristics and thermal expansion coefficient of the sandwich plate faces are considered to be graded in the thickness direction according to a simple power-law distribution in terms of the volume fractions of the constituents. The core layer is still homogeneous and made of an isotropic material. The thermal loads are supposed as uniform, linear and non-linear temperature rises within the thickness direction. An energy based variational principle is used to derive the governing equations as an eigenvalue problem. The validation of the present work is carried out with the available results in the literature. Numerical results are presented to demonstrate the influences of variations of volume fraction index, length-thickness ratio, loading type and functionally graded layers thickness on nondimensional thermal buckling loads.
