The purposes of this research are to search and analyze information theories which are useful to approach bibliotherapy in terms of 'therapeutic' readers' advisory service, and to propose a conceptual model of 'therapeutic' readers' advisory service on the basis of such theoretical foundations. To the end, Dervin's sense-making theory and Kuhlthau's ISP model are introduced and applied to the conceptual model. The conceptual model is profoundly based on Dervin's situation-gap-use metaphor and Kuhlthau's Uncertainty Principle.

This article intends to locate the logical basis to apply bibliotherapy as a library service in Korean libraries. To the end, investigated and discussed are the historical relationship between bibliotherapy and RAS(readers' advisory service), and the theoretical base and practical experiences that enabled bibliotherapy to be practical in the U.S. library community. This article introduces a concept of 'therapeutic' RAS as a similar concept to 'developmental' bibliotherapy, and suggests the roles of a librarian as a therapist, based on the "Zones of Intervention" by Carol Kuhlthau.
