Effects of Foreign Exchange Rates on Stock Returns

  • This study is aimed to investigate the effects of foreign exchange rates on stock market returns. For the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan and Korea, the cross-correlation precedence of foreign exchange rate on stock market is found in the case of Germany and Korea. But that of stock market is not observed in any case. We performed three kinds of causality and exogeneity test of Granger test, Sims test and Geweke-Meese-Dent test. The analyses on the full period show the time-lag causal, exogeneous relation of foreign exchange rates with Granger, Sims and GMD test for Korea. The United Kingdom presents the significance with Granger and Sims test while Germany reveals the time-lag relation with Granger and GMD test. When we divide the period into two parts with the Louvre Accord, the first part give the less degree of time-lag relation. But in the second period the three kinds of causality and exogeneity test propose consistent time-lag relation with foreign exchange rates on stock markets for the United Kingdom and Korea with the three test methods. And Granger's test prove German foreign exchange market have a time-lag relation on stock market.

전통사회 여성의 사적(私的) 영역과 공적(公的) 영역에서의 노동 -삼국시대부터 조선시대까지 - (Women′s Labor in Private and Public Spheres in Traditional Korean Societies -From the Three Kingdom Period to the Chosen Dyansty-)

  • This study was carried out to investigate women's labor in the private and public spheres in traditional societies from the Three Kingdom Period to the Chosen Dynasty. This study is based on review of historical literature. It was found that women in the traditional societies from the Three Kingdom Period to the Chosen Dynasty worked not only in private places, such as in households as housewives, but also as slaves in public places such as government offices. Also, women as housewives worked not only to fulfill private needs, but also to pay taxes. In this sense, women in traditional societies participated in labor force in the public arena, not unlike women in industrialized societies who participate in labor market. This research provides a piece of counterevidence against the general belief that women in traditional societies only conducted private housework at home. Therefore this study suggests that we need to rethink gender roles in traditional societies.

한성시대(漢城時代)의 백제(百濟)와 마한(馬韓) (Hanseong Period of Baekje and Mahan)

  • The history of Baekje Kingdom, one of the Three kingdoms, is divided into three periods to the change of sociopolitical center, including its capital as follows: Hanseong Period (18 BC ~ AD 475), Ungjin Period (AD 475~538), and Sabi Period (AD 538~660). Though the Hanseong Period of Baekje Kingdom covers more than two thirds of the whole history of Baekje Kingdom (493 years), history and archaeological culture of the Hanseong Period is still unclear and even ambiguous comparing to the Ungjin and Sabi periods. Most of all, it is because of quite limited historical records and archaeological data available. In addition, negative attitude of the Korean academic circles to the early records of Samguksaki(三國史記) has been a critical obstacle to the study of early history of the Three kingdoms, including the Hanseong Period of Baekje kingdom. Author, who has attempted to combine historical records and archaeological data in order to reconstruct the history and archaeological culture of the early Baekje, specifically the Hanseong Period, has held positive attitude to the early records of the Samguksaki as far as possible. He(Author) came to realize that comprehensive understanding of Mahan (馬韓) society, one of the Three Han (三韓) Society was more than essential in the study of Baekje. According to historical records and archaeological data, Mahan Society represented by Mojiguk(目支國) ruled by King Jin(辰王) has been located in the middle and/or southwestern parts of the Korean peninsula from the 3rd~2nd century BC through the end of the 5th century or early 6th century AD. Mahan already occupied central portion of the Korean Peninsula, including the Han River Valley when King Onjo(溫祖王) first set up the capital of Baekje Kingdom at Wiryeseong (慰 禮城) considered to be modern Jungrang~Songpa-gu area of Han River Valley. From the beginning of the Baekje history, there had been quite close interrelationships between Baekje and Mahan, and the interrelationships had lasted for around 500 years. In other words, it is impossible to attempt to understand and study Hanseong period of Baekje, without considering the historical and archaeological identity of Mahan. According to the Samguksaki, Baekje moved its capital three times during the Hanseong Period (18 BC ~ AD 475) within the Han River Valley as follows: Wiryeseong at Jungrang-gu area of the Han River (河北慰禮城, 18 ~ 5 BC), Wiryeseong at Songpa-gu area of the Han River(河南慰禮城, 5 BC ~ AD 371), Hansan at Iseongsan fortress site(Historical site No. 422, 漢山, AD 371~391), and Hanseong at Chungung-dong of Hanam city(漢城, AD 391~475). Before 1990s, archaeological data of the Hanseong Period was quite limited, and archaeological culture of Mahan was not well defined. Only a few burial and fortress sites were reported to be archaeological remains of the early Baekje, and a few settlement and jar burial sites were assumed to be those of Mahan without clear definition of the Mahan Culture. Since 1990s, fortunately, a number of new archaeological sites of Hanseong Baekje and Mahan have been reported and investigated. Thanks to the new discoveries, there has been significant progress in the study of early Baekje and Mahan. In particular, a number of excavations of Pungnap-dong Fortress site(Historical site NO. 11, 1996~2003), considered to be the Wiryeseong at south of the Han River, the second capital of the Hanseong Baekje, provided critical archaeological evidence in the study of Hanseong Period of Baekje. Since the end of the 1990s, a number of sites have been reported in Gyeonggi, Chungcheong, and Jeolla provinces, as well. From these sites, archaeological features and artifacts representing distinctive cultural tradition of Mahan have been identified such as unstamped fortresses, pit houses cut into the rock, houses with lifted floor(掘立柱 건물), and potteries decorated with toothed wheel and bird's footprint designs. These cultural traditions reflected in the archaeological remains played a critical role to define and understand archaeological identity of the Mahan society. Moreover, archaeological data from these new sites reported in the middle and southwestern parts of the Korean Peninsular made it possible to postulate a hypothesis that the history of Mahan could be divided into three periods to the change of its sociopolitical center in relation with the Baekje Kingdom's political Situation as follows: Cheonan (天安) Period, Iksan(益山) Period, and Naju(羅州) Period. The change of Mahan's sociopolitical center is closely related to the sociopolitical expansion of the Hanseong Baekje.

조선시대 양로연(養老宴)에 대한 고찰 (A Study of Ceremony for the Elderly (Yangroyun) in Chosun Dynasty)

  • Yangroyun(養老宴), the ceremony for elderly people, originated with the ancient chinese, but the ceremony was held as almsgiving in the early period of Three Kingdom - Shilla.Goguryo.Backje. During the period, a king participated in the ceremony and gave elderly people grain and cloth. Also, in the unified Shilla dynasty, as it were. According to establish the aristocracy in the Three Kingdom Period, Yangroyun became the royal ceremony. In Goryo dynasty, Yangroyen was developed as a ceremony for awarding a person with filial piety prizes. In Chosun dynasty, Yangroyun was peformed in the rigid regulation. It was begun from the king Sejong, According to$\boxDr$Kyungkukdaejeon(經國大典)$\boxUl$, Yanroyun was held in September of the lunar year for over eighty years old, and queen held a banquet for the wives of the elderly. According to $\boxDr$Chosunwangjosilrok(朝鮮王朝實錄)$\boxUl$,$\boxDr$Gisaji(耆社志)$\boxUl$, and $\boxDr$Jungbomunhunbigo(增補文獻備考)$\boxUl$, Yanguroyun held totally eighty times in Chosun dynasty, however, in the late Chosun dynasty, Yangroyun was held few times.

우리나라 남성수발의 변천에 관한 연구 (A Study on Transformation of Korea man's hairstyle)

  • This thesis is for the study of hair style and consciousness concerning Korean awris hairs. Our nation had been originally considered to be a people without decorating their hairs. The adults however used a bundle of hair which was twirled, and the bachelors wore original hair befor wiman chosun in B.C. 194. Since then this twirled bundle of hair had been consistently used until the end of the chosun period from the Three-Kingdom period, except Mongolian hair style which was used for one hund-red years during the Won's oppression period at the time of Koryo. The bachelor's hair style not being adorned was developed into that of twirled bundle of hair which was used for on the Three-Kingdom period to the Koryo period, but this was also transformed into the current hair style ? mainly to the decree of short-cut hair style in 1895 and the prevolent western clothes. The origin of meins hair style in Korea was a hair without decoration which was same as that of Ski-tie people in Western country, but our style was different from that of Manju and Mongolian people who have same kinship relationshup. And our nation was greatly influenced by the Chinese culture in view of the Twin-Knats style of the unmarried. Our people's consciousness uwderlying in hairs shows resped for seniors, standard between dults and adolescents, magics, and desine for ornaments.

화성 발안리 유적출토 원삼국 및 백제 토기의 정량분석과 고고과학적 해석 (Archaeometric Interpretation and Quantitative Analysis of Pottery from Proto-Three Kingdom to Baekje Kingdom Period of the Balanri Site in Hwaseong, Korea)

  • 이 연구에서는 화성 발안리 유적에서 출토된 원삼국과 백제 토기의 용도와 제작기법에 대하여 고찰하였다. 각 주거지에서 수습한 토기시료는 중도식 무문토기와 타날문 토기 및 백제토기로서 정련상태와 비짐물질의 첨가 등 광물학적 특성에 따라 형태가 구분되며 사용용도가 달라진다. 중도식 무문토기와 장란형토기는 대부분 황갈색을 띠며 취사용기로 사용되었고, 타날문 토기는 회청색을 띠며 저장용기로 사용되었던 것으로 보인다. 중도식 무문토기와 백제토기는 $900{\sim}940^{\circ}C$의 소성을 거쳤고 타날문 토기는 $900{\sim}1,100^{\circ}C$ 정도의 소성을 거쳤을 것으로 판단된다. 따라서 토기의 소성조건은 용도에 따라 조절하여 사용하였을 것으로 해석된다. 한편 모든 토기들은 유사한 지구화학적 거동특성을 갖는 것으로 보아 모두 같은 기원의 태토를 사용하였을 것으로 추정된다.

남부지역의 출토유물을 통하여 고구려 벽화에서 보이는 갑주에 관한 고찰 (A Study on Armours Appeared in Kokuyeo Wall Paintings through Excavated Remains in the Southern Region)

  • There are many battle paintings among wall paintings in Kokuryeo. Most warriors in paintings wore armours in full kit. Armours in Three-Kingdom Period were contrived for strategy. They have been checked that Pangab suitable for infantry action had been worn in Shilla while flexible Chalgab for cavalry battle had been worn in Kokuryeo. As cavalry strategy in Kokuryeo was brought to Kaya Kingdom via battles in fifth century, Chalgab became also worn in South area. Pangab, Shaejagab and Nubigabot as well as Chalgab had also been worn on view of wall paintings. There were many kinds of helmets such as Jongjang-panju, Mangokjongjang-panju, Kwanmonhyoungbok-balju, Chongkakju and Kwaehyoungju. Accesory-Armours are Sanggab, Kyounggab, Sangbakgab, Gwinggab, Daetwaegab and Kyounggab. Those helmets and Accesory-Armours are quite similiar to excavations from Shilla, Kaya Kingdom area. As Kokuryeo wall paintings are related to excavations from South area, armours and helmets in those wall paintings can be a good data to investigate the full shape of excavations and how to use, while excavations are very useful to the study on method of construction and manufacturing of armours and helmets.

삼국시대 머리 장신구에 대한 연구 (A Study on the Hair Ornaments in the Period of the Three Kingdom States)

  • The purpose of this study is to classify of the Hair ornaments in old tombs of the Three Kingdom States. Hair ornaments was divided into Combs, Rod-like hairpins, Chae[;釵], Boyo[;步搖] Combs were 2 type in according to the tooth's space, wide-tooth comb[;梳] and fine-tooth comb(;比). The general name of two type was called Jeul(;櫛). Combs were excavated from the only ancient Silla tombs. Rod-like hairpins were called Gha(叉) or Jam(:簪). They were found in most of the old tombs in Goauryeo, Baekje, ancient Silla tombs. The style was L-type and embellished circular head-type. Chae(;釵) was understand Cha(:叉) that had two tongs. Chae(:釵) was generally U-type and rarely hairtweezers -type. Jakchae(;爵釵) was understand distinctive Chae(;釵) hanged with phoenix. This type was excavated from the only Baekje tombs of King of Muryeong. Boyo(;步搖) was originally a hair decoration of the northern nomadic tribes which had been introduced to the Wijin period. Boyo gained its popularity by the women in Dang Dynasty, hair ornaments were considered indicators of status and wealth. Boyo(;步搖) hair accessory features of which are suspended from a elaborate hairpin structure. Such pieces were designed to sway as their wearer walked. The bequest was not found, but we catch the Boyo(; 步搖) that was women'head decoration in painting of old tombs in Goguryeo.

  • 현대 금속공예는 대량생산을 목표로 예술성이 결여된 단순한 표현 방법과 한정적 기술만을 사용하여 우리의 전통과 개성이 상실되어가고 있다. 앞으로 현대 금속공예의 발전과 우리 고유의 문화를 계승하기 위해서는 고대부터 전해온 전통공예기법을 고찰해야 할 필요성을 갖는다. 입사공예는 고도의 집중력과 기술력을 필요로 하며 당대 문화와 사상을 잘 보여주는 대표적인 전통금속공예기법이다. 입사기법이 국내에 처음으로 나타난 시대는 삼국시대로 백제, 가야, 신라에서 찾아볼 수 있다. 나아가 입사공예를 현대금속공예에 활용하였을 때 우리 고유의 예술적인 표현과 역사적 가치를 부여할 수 있는 가능성을 발견할 수 있었다. 이를 위해 전통의 기법을 명확하게 익힐 수 있는 교육의 기회를 넓히고 현대공예에 알맞게 수용할 수 있는 실용적 방안을 지속적으로 모색해야 비로소 현대 금속공예의 발전과 우리 고유의 개성을 확고히 자리매김하기 할 수 있을 것으로 전망한다.

고대 한일 장신용 비교 연구 (A Study on the Relation of Korean and Japanese Ornaments in ancient times)

  • The object is to study the influence Korean ornaments had on the Japanese during the THREE KINGDOM PERIOD. In ornaments(Earrings Necklaces Bracelets Rings) also we can find commonness between Korean and Japan. CHIZASIL( a gardenia seed) and heart shaped of Earrings the use of gems in Necklaces engravings of abdomen on Bracelets and rhomb-shaped Rings all these are common between Korea and Japan. And the same time we can that our country was superior to Japan ornaments.
