프뢰벨의 킨더가르텐 시스템이 근대건축과 디자인에 미친 영향에 관한 연구 (A Study on the influence of Froebel′s Kindergarten system upon the modern architecture and design)

  • This study was performed to search for the geometrical principles in modern architecture and design based on Frobel's educational idea and Kindergarten system. Especially, it studies on the geometrical principles of Froebel's building gifts and it's types, and then illustrates applied examples in modern architecture and design. As the architectural scope, the architecture and design theory of Frank Lloyd Wright and Bauhaus in early 20th century is analyzed. The conclusions of this study that starts these purpose are as follows. First, Froebel's educational theory is based on principles and rules which are perceived through the observation of nature, and Froebel's Kindergarten system consists of geometrical building gifts and categories of geometrical forms. Second, the characteristics of Froebel's building gifts are mathematical size, proportion, symmetry and the rules of spatial relation. Third, the influence of Froebel's kindergarten system on Bauhaus is that it based on the rational rules of $\bigtriangleup\square\bigcirc$ organized by geometrical basic forms as like Froebel's educational idea. And the influence of Froebel's Kindergarten system on Frank Lloyd Wright is that he used unit system, unity of space and structure and modular system as like the Froebel's building gifts.

  • With the coming demographic avalanche as the number of elderly aged 65 and older is expected to double in 20 years in South Korea, the concept of retirement living will be changed in a whole new way. The newest design principles as environmental affordance system for them need to be considered. This study started with the premise that 'Aging in Place' might be the most desirable alternative for the elderly and if so, they may be at greater challenge of living in the home, especially in kitchen. The purpose of this study is to analyze various universal design kitchen products according to five Universal Design criteria with physical or mental characteristics of aging. The five Universal Design principles are 'Supportiveness', 'Adaptability', 'Communicability', 'Pleasantness' and 'Accessibility', which were developed from the previous research. The profile and the trends of the universal design kitchen products were identified with the concrete design examples. The results will be expected to make contributions to developing universal design guidelines for kitchen products, to understanding the nature of universal design paradigm, and to establishing directions for sustainable living of the elderly.

  • An interactive and iterative design method based on the constraint satisfaction problem (CSP) technique was developed to generate an ergonomically sound layout of a control panel. This control panel layout method attempts to incorporate a variety of relevant ergonomic principles and design constraints, and generate an optimal or, at least, a "satisfactory" solution through iterative interactions with the designer. The existing panel design and layout methods are mostly based on the optimization of single objective function formulated to reflect and trade off all ergonomic design objectives which are largely different in their nature. In fact, the problem of seeking an ergonomically sound panel design should be viewed as a multiple objective optimization problem. Furthermore, most of the design objectives should be understood as constraints rather than objectives to be optimized. Hence, a constraint satisfaction approach is proposed in this study as a framework for the panel designer to search through the design decision space effectively and make various design decisions iteratively. In order to apply the constraint satisfaction approach to the panel design procedure, the ergonomic principles such as frequency-of-use, importance, functional grouping, and sequence-of-use are formalized as CSP terms. With this formalization, a prototype system was implemented and applied to panel layout problems. The results clearly showed the effectiveness of the proposed approach since it permits designers to consider and iteratively evaluate various design constraints and ergonomic principles, and, therefore, aids the panel designer to come up with an ergonomically sound control panel layout.

  • This study was performed to construct the spatial systems and shape grammars in architecture based on Froebel's educational idea and building gifts. Especially, it studies on the geometrical principles of Froebel's building gifts and it's types, and then illustrates applied examples about design vocabularies, spatial relations and shape rules of the spatial systems and shape grammars in architecture. The conclusions of this study that starts these purpose are as follows. First, Froebel's educational theory is based on principles and rules which are perceived through the observation of nature, and Froebel's kindergarten method consists of geometrical building gifts and categories of geometrical forms. Second, the characteristics of Froebel's building gifts are mathematical size, proportion, symmetry and the rules of spatial relation. Third, the development to the construction of spatial systems and shape grammars in architecture focus on the vocabularies of architectural elements, and Froebel's building gifts are used for illustration of examples in these formula.

Temporal Structure on Discourse bevel within the Controlled Information Packaging Theory

  • The temporal structure of events on the discourse level has long been of great interest in both theoretical and computational linguistics. In this paper, we offer a unified approach to the temporal relationships related to a hierarchical discourse structure. We apply the method of pronoun resolution to the interpretation of tense. It is based on an analysis within the framework of the controlled information packaging theory. A unique aspect of our account is that temporal interpretation across discourse segments in global discourse is subject to the same principles as the interpretation of global anaphora, and that there is thus no need to postulate independent principles to account for the discourse behaviour of tense. In this way, we can neatly explain the general view that tense parallels the anaphoric nature of pronouns.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest the specific design guidelines for major physical elements like colors, patterns or shapes which can produce the place identity enhancing wayfinding affordability. The research consists with theoretical studies. From the precedent researches, the main design principles enhancing wayfinding affordability were defined and then the list and the nature of the major physical interior elements were drawn, based on them. The result presented that the specific design guidelines as well as design principles could be focused on the categories like generating landmarks, introducing color codes, floor patterns, and wall decorating. And dealing them to promote place identity, were shown as useful in articulating the pathway and indicating spatial orientation. Design guidelines as the result of the research, could be easily and directly applied on the real public spaces as a visual guidance enhancing navigability(the ability to recover position and orientation) to make up the wayfinding weakness.

  • The purpose of this study is to propose a new design principles and to analyze the pattern of art and architecture applying fractal concepts. As this study is based on fractal geometry as a natural science, 1 intented to explain the concepts and provide some methods of generating fractal properties. Two major aspects are discussed. Frist, fractals are geometric shapes that are self-similar, in other words, they iterate a basic shape at ever increasing a decreasing dimensions. Self-similarity, irregularity, and scaling are fundamental characteristics of fractal geometry. Second, the fractal concepts of art and design can be analyzed and used as a critical tool. In both criticism and design, fractals provides a tool In fine, fractal geometry can be provided endless possibilities for artists and designers intended in expressing the more complex underlying rhythms and organic patterns of nature.

실내공간에 나타난 유기적 디자인 표현 특성에 관한 연구 - 자하 하디드, 카림 라시드, 파비오 노벰브레, 녹스의 유기적 디자인 작품을 중심으로 - (A Study on the Characteristics of Organic Design Applied to Interior - Centering on Organic Design by Zaha Hadid, Karim Rshid, Fabio Nobembre and Nox -)

  • The nature is the foundation of human life and arts, and human beings have found order and principle amid ceaseless change and harmonization of the nature and diversified patterns and directly or indirectly applied the nature to interior through discovered principles. Interior space to which the organic factors of the nature is an expression of the vitality of the nature and expresses live forms as seen in change, development and growth of living organisms in addition to human feelings. The study aims to recognize the necessity of studies on interior space to which organic expressive characteristics of the nature are applied in uniformed space, suggest expressive characteristics and propose needed basic data required at a time of designing interior space. In this regard, the study has examined works by five contemporary designers including Zaha Hadid, Karim Rashid, Fabio Novembre and Nox with an aim to analyze expressive characteristics of interior design and figure expressive characteristics of organic design found in interior space. According to analyses on preceding literary studies and case studies (14 places), it has been found that organic expressive characteristics in interior space include vision, tactile sensation and auditory sense in terms of sensitivity, immateriality in terms of a property of matter, metaphor and abstraction in terms of the form of natural objects and non-linear curves and free curves in organic design. Organic spaces were characterized by symbolism, directionality, continuity, pattern and superimposition. This conclusion is expected to be useful in subsequent studies on the application of organic expressive characteristic factors at a time of planning interior space in the future.

수중동물의 헤엄침 역학 (Swimming Mechanics of Aquatic-Animals)

  • The present survey paper introduces the research history, characteristics of body and fin shapes, basic principles of various locomotions and propulsion-generation mechanism of aquatic animals in nature, which utilize unsteady flow through a noble mechanism that is different in paradigm from the propulsion generation mechanism of man-made marine vehicles, and so have excellent performance and efficiency. The authors hope that the present paper helps to activate the domestic research interest on the fields of swimming in nature, which is expected to provide great ideas for improvement and innovation of today's marine vehicles.

Determination of energetically preferable Au-S contact atomic structure in stretched single-molecule junctions

  • Based on the first-principles computations, the nature of the microscopic geometry of the molecule-electrode contacts was addressed. The single-molecule junction was prepared by connecting hexanediothiolate (HDT) to Au(111) electrodes via one, two, and three Au adatoms having coordination number of one (CN1), two (CN2), and, three (CN3), respectively. The contact atomic structure and energy of the stretched Au-HDT-Au junction was observed. The analysis revealed that the contact geometry with lowest coordination number (CN1) is energetically more stable than CN2 and CN3.
